The opposite, actually. At that time, they came after the whole slew of grungy retro acts deluged MTV. They might finally be ahead of the times now ;-)
I don't think ahead of their time so much as their sound, their age though, to write music this well at such a young age.

The fact that he was a 15 year old animal and civil rights activist with the voice of a grown man that had been playing grunge the amount of time he’d actually been alive…. Johns is a fucking amazing artist. He will always be one of the greatest Australian artists I’ve ever heard in my life. I admired him so much growing up, and he’s had such a profound effect on my altruism and how I view the world as an adult.

I have Frogstomp, Freak Show and Diorama on Vinyl with the rest of my 300 album collection,, I love their music and they absolutely rock it, BUT my much younger brother hated them because although he practiced for many years these kids could easily outplay and write music 100 times better than he ever could,, LOL SORRY BROTHER, I place Silverchair above Nirvana just because their talent is years above their age,, Anyways I'm 54 now and still love them.
That would make you older than them lol join the club. I will be 42 this year and I saw one of their first concerts they backed Everclear for their first Aussie tour

I graduated high school in 2000 (well I was supposed to) and silverchair was as legit as they came. Here I am today,40 years old and still supporting the good shit. Thank you guys for some kick ass/beautiful music.

I never get tired of this album.
One of the very few i can sit and listen from start to finish.
Such a solid album, and the fact silverchair were only between the ages of 13 and 16 writing these songs.
They must of spent almost everyday perfecting their style at a very young age.
Something that i wish i had the oppurtunity to do so.
I will love this band forever.
Even though Daniel Johns will never reform silverchair. He is the only one stopping that from happening.
But i dont blame him. He is well and truely over his grungy days.

I had previously only heard their song "Tomorrow". After listening to several other Silverchair songs, I'm seriously impressed. This band was amazing.

They were 15 when they released this. I was listening it on the BBC radio 1 rock show at the time. In a time before social media they managed to go global at 15.
Seriously a song that needs to be shared. For all intents and purposes, it was written by children, for children. Today those children are dead or survived to be men. Heavy stuff.
March 27, 1995 is when these kids released this and they were between 14-17 years old.
An unreal album I'm so happy I circled back to. I was 10 when it came out and now am 32, probably enjoying it more now.

Daniel Johns disappeared up his own orifice many moons ago. The guy did a cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit on a grand piano and harp, for god's sake. It was every bit as horrible as you'd think.

"Neon Ballroom' and "Frogstomp" are classic albums. Silverchair were so different from the Green day and NOFX knockoffs flooding the Aussie music scene in the late 90's.

I’m listening to the audiobook, “Love & Pain”. After hearing the backstory of the cover for the single, I had to listen to the song for the nostalgia. Silverchair has been one of the most influential bands of my youth. They still are to this day 🤘🏼.
How old were they when they did this, 15-16? Freaking phenomenal. Yeah, okay, it was the 90s, Nirvana and Pearl Jam etc were dominating and influencing, but these kids from Newcastle really were incredible. Daniel should be proud!

A lot of their songs from frogstomp, freakshow, neon ballroom, diorama to young modern album. Actually not only them but also a lot of my favorite bands from Seattle especially the big 4 grunge bands. Of course including also Rage Against the Machine, STP, RHCP, Korn,, Slipknot, Deftones, Pantera, Disturbed, SOAD, Audioslave, Bush, Live, Toadies, Tool, Filter, Weezer, Offspring, Better than Ezra, Tonic, Jars of Clay, Fuel, Foo Fighters, Incubus, Smashing Pumpkins, PUSA, Stabbing Westward, Spacehog, Verve Pipe, Veruca Salt, Garbage, Republica, Hole, Collective Soul, Oasis, Greenday and my favourite famous local rock bands in the Philippines like Slapshock (RIP Jamir Garcia) Greyhounds' Pigface, Wolfgang, Razorback, Kjwan's Pintura and Daliri, Bamboo's Hallelujah and Tatsulok, Rico Blanco's Yugto, Juan dela Cruz band's Beep Beep and Laki sa Layaw, the late king of rap Francis Magalona (RIP) and a lot more. Totally I'm addicted to music or really an audioslave. Then, we huge fans of theirs should always be thankful because of their music. You have good taste in music. I feel the 90s was the last time for great music. Of course there is still good music being made, but it is in piecemeal. There is no "wave" of great artists with great albums anymore.

These guys were so young and so was I! I went to see them at Muchmusic in Toronto and they were so tight for a 3 piece I was blown away and they definately gave us some drive to become better as a band and practice more! I was 18 and thought it was over lol!
