Hunter Vonnegut You need to stop using someone’s death as a way to market yourself. It will likely have the opposite effect of outing yourself as a douche.
My favorite Mark Lanegan moment: It was pretty basic but utterly perfect. Screaming Trees at the Gorge in George, Washington - I don’t remember if it was a Lollapalooza or something else. My friend and I had great seats front and center right behind the pit. I was coming back to our seats right when ST started Nearly Lost You with that great guitar riff into those drums. As soon as he started singing I threw my arms in the air and skipped down the aisle in utter joy and made people laugh- perfect weather, great seats, great show and unimaginably gorgeous view. Every time I hear that song it rivets me to that moment. A perfect day. #ripmarklanegan
That's beautiful! It's funny how the most memorable concerts are only party due to the performance. Rather, it's when a number of variables come together (weather, who you're with, substances, etc), and you find yourself in that perfect moment being reminded that you're alive! Thanks for sharing.
I saw them live back in the day because I loved this tune so much. I drank too much then to remember the show much (sadly). Still one of my favorites. And what he did with mad season? Stellar. Rip. (The best of my era are all gone).
I'm feeling that kind of sadness when something really unique doesn't exist anymore. Like the voice of Mark Lanegan and Dolores O'Riordan. Hard to believe that we will never hear these voices again. All we have are memories from the past. R.I.P Mark Lanegan.
I love her as well. Such a sweet voice. Mark told a story for many people. A story of struggle and addiction and trying to go to sleep when you have to get up in the morning. It's hard.
His voice sounded like grunge.. gravely but smooth in the right way- even when he was younger it still sounded like the streets/ backwoods rough life but brite mind I think
Mark sang with so much age in his voice during the line "and it's taken us somewhere". Quite an incredible voice. Hopefully him and Van are playing again in the great gig in the sky.
Screaming Trees very underrated, but not by me and others viewing this. They just had the misfortune to being in Seattle/Washington State with the other good to great grunge era bands of the late 80's/early 90's. So, they kind of went under the radar even in their home state. R.I.P. to Van and Mark. The really sad thing is with so many good grunge singers like Mark being gone is that there won't be many great grunge reunion concert tours in the future.
I was 23 in 1992, doing X-Ray school! The first time i saw , ''Nearly Lost You " on MTV, I drove to the record shop and bought SWEET OBLIVION! The entire album is a master piece that many over looked! Now i am 51 yr olds and still have the original LP. One of the greatest thing out of Seattle!!

I made a picture of your autographed set of songs that evening, your signed CD is here in front of me, your voice, unique, unmistakable,i have it in my head like a tattoo.Thank's for leaving us your art,a heritage for those who love REAL music
Mark you killed it on this and countless other songs! Always thought of you as kinda like a grungy Jim Morrison. This song and Hangin’ Tree by QOTSA are two of my favorites from you! Rest in Peace, and thank you for the great voice you shared with the world!
@Hunter Vonnegut I’ve actually never heard of them. I guess them being underground is a cause. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll be sure to give them a listen!
Funny you say that, he reminds me of Jim Morrison too! In so many ways, his looks, mannerisms and poise, even his voice had that morrison rough but smooth sound. Thanks for saying that, good to know Im not the only one!
From a 90s Aussie Grunge baby I send my heartfelt condolences to Mark's loved ones. Truly a talented man, he shared his gift with the world and we are grateful. RIP.
A criminally neglected piece of genius. Its a moment frozen in time. If i was to pinpoint a moment in the 90s where endless promise & a stifling future intersecting like some hideous Venn Diagram of the death of my youth ... Its right here.
In the 80s I never thought I was going experience a time that music I liked would be mainstream. And then came the 90s grunge seen came to life. What a great time to play and listen to music. This song is an excellent example of that golden age.
RIP Mr. Lanegan. You have made an impact on my life in ways you will never know. You are part of the soundtrack to my life, and I will never forget you. Much love to Screaming Trees, and the Lanegan family.
Back in those days when MTV still was a music channel, they played this song over and over again and I never get tired watching it. Sweet Oblivion is still one of my favorite albums of all time. I lost Mark out of sight for 20 years, rediscovering him a few years ago. A great singer, a great personality. He will be deeply missed. RIP Mark.
I loved this song and the band so much in high school/college. I loved his voice. I saw them at an outdoor venue in San Antonio Texas. They were playing with Soul Asylum and the Spin Doctors . It was 100+ degrees and the venue was afraid people were gonna get heatstroke so they turned on water hoses and sprayed the whole crowd, which was most welcome but made a ton of mud! I will never forget that day. My friends and I bought 1 shirt from each band and would each wear one and then pass to the the next friend the next week so we each got to show off the different bands. RIP Mark.
Saw the Cult in May. Ian Astbury dedicated the show to Mark. Btw the Cult killed it. Saw the Trees at Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta back in the 90’s…Soul Asylum, The Screaming Trees and Spin Drs were the headliner. Got gloriously caught in a mosh pit while my two friends screamed from fright. I’m now 61. I’m still playing this louder than the Bose system In my Infiniti will allow.
One of my good friends lives in ellensburg. I used to go there in the summer and ride down the river in an inner tube that was in 86-87. I like that town drove through it many times heading to white swan for ceremonies
one of my faves of screaming trees. i have shaken hands and talked a little to mark lanegan several times when he played here in sweden - it was magical but i have never in my 32 years of life been so nervous. i have loved mark lanegan and screaming trees since i was a kid.
I had no idea that this man rested in peace and was now sleeping in the deep sleep. God bless you, all your fans, and your family. The reason is that I am an old school rock and roller, not much into the new music. And here I go, trying to find new music, and it's already over 10 years old, and the guy isn't even around anymore. This made cry, man. God bless you and all the musicians, always.
Omg how did I forget about my Screaming 😱 Trees!!!!! I love them. They helped me with my crazy teenage brain in the 90s. God I miss that decade. Real music....RIP 🕊️
Mark, what an incredible voice. Sweet Oblivion holds a very special place in my heart as one of my alltime fav albums. As someone who was 13 when the whole Seattle scene started, I feel like I've been losing a piece of my heart every time a grunge artist left this Earth: Andy Wood, Kurt, Layne, Mike Starr, Scott, Chris, and also Mark (I didn't see the last 2 coming). At this point, I don't even know if I have a heart left. 💔💔💔

Still one of my favorite songs, 30 years later.
Same 👍🏼👍🏼
Time flies isnt it?
RIP Mark ....you and you music got me through more than you could ever know ....
Same here. May he rest in peace.
Rest in Power Vann Conner.... Thank you for helping form Screaming Trees and the music you gave us...
The drumming is out of this world.
Garage jamming at it's best, like Grohl on early Nirvana records.
Right?
@@michaeldavenport6972 Grohl didn't play on the early Nirvana albums. That was Chad Channing and Dale Crover of The Melvins.
The louder I play this song the better my air drumming gets.....Pickerel.
Excellent drumming, says this Black lady.
RIP Mark , I loved your "sound" as a singer and Band . Miss this style of music being released on a daily basis . Modern 2022 music aint got nothin like this !!!
It's still around, it's just not as hyped as it was, so you need to dig deeper. Other music genres that aren't in the spotlight still get new projects that are sometimes amazing, like goth etc.
His voice was like jagged shards of glass wrapped in silk.. Rest In Peace Mark..
uhhhh......do better.
Love your description!! 👍👍😃
Yup rugged but smooth as hell
The drums and vocals...owe my goodness
Give me back the goddamn 90's
Preach it!!! The last of the good music!!!
2000 was the mark of the world turning into trash
Like shitty internet? Waiting unsuspectedly for 9/11? OJ???.... LIMP BIZKIT??? The cult-like worship of Kurt Cobain??? Yeah, fuck that.
RolliePolliolli Eh, at the very at least talented rock bands like Screaming Trees making good music.
RolliePolliolli Well, to be fair the cult-like worship of Kurt is still going strong.
Thank You for all the great music & lyrics created.
Say Hello to Kurt, Layne & Chris ...
RIP legend 🖤
Thats 4/5 of the greats. Hopefully Vedder sticks around for awhile.
Yeah say hi to Scott too..
RIP Mark. You will sadly be missed. Such a powerful and smooth voice that elevated grunge to another level. Always loved the simplicity of this video.
I never got why people were affected by celebrites passing away - not until Mark died. Sleep well big man
Same as Chris Cornell 😢
Yeah same, mark was as real as it comes. Listen to his audio book sing backwards and weep. It’s narrated by him and it’s very interesting.
Man what memories this brings..damn I miss the 90s SO much. Best decade of my life!
RIP Mark
I'd love to get in a time machine and go back too 1992,even just for a day or two.
id love to get a time machine and go back to the moment that kurt cobain was about to be murdered and stop it, and also that we need him to defeat the evil that music will become in the future.
Or forever : )
The world turned to shit after 9/11. It just isn’t the same anymore.
It's possible that we all did die in 2000.
lot's of drugs dude
Hi Mark, i still have the wonderful memory of your concert a few years ago here in Italy.I was lucky enough to meet an extraordinary musician but above all a beautiful person. I made a picture of your autographed set of songs that evening, your signed CD is here in front of me, your voice, unique, unmistakable,i have it in my head like a tattoo.Thank's for leaving us your art,a heritage for those who love REAL music
Treasure that memory! I got tickets to see him in London but I never went
@Hunter Vonnegut Shut up, dude. My god.
@@chip9649 that’s too bad. Great guy. Home town hero so I may be biased.
@@chip9649 why not
Miss Tina Maria Cassar. Sad to hear the deaths of two brilliant band members my favourite song.Watching from Wales in the UK
Kurt, Chris, Layne, Andy, Ben and now Mark. That's a lot of dead frontmen 😢
RIP buddy
And Chester

This song just kicks ass from start to finish.
RIP Van. RIP Mark, RIP Screaming Trees; they were a gem of a band from Ellensburg, WA.
@@dollparts9220 my dad agrees too. So we aren’t the only ones who get Morrison vibes from Lanegan.
I'm currently listening to his audio book and he hated being referred to as Morrison lol
RIP Mark, from Screaming Trees to Queens of the Stone Age, your vocals will always have a place in my ear.
Trilha do filme Singles !!
O filme mais grunge já feito, descanse em paz Mark.
Caracas não sabia vou assistir ao filme já
From a 90s Aussie Grunge baby I send my heartfelt condolences to Mark's loved ones. Truly a talented man, he shared his gift with the world and we are grateful. RIP.
Thank You Mark
Please find Peace
You've done well
So have our Troops.....Are about 60% of them.
A criminally neglected piece of genius. Its a moment frozen in time. If i was to pinpoint a moment in the 90s where endless promise & a stifling future intersecting like some hideous Venn Diagram of the death of my youth ... Its right here.
Early 90's was a fantastic time for rock and roll.
Agreed, it was very original and experimental. The record companies had no idea who to clone so all this great music was made instead.
It sure was. Grunge was incredible.
It's not that grunge is dead. I think the world wasn't and still isn't ready for grunge.
yes...I loved grunge
Descanse em paz Mark. Essa música faz parte da trilha sonora da minha juventude. Muito obrigado cara!
Da minha também 😞
Proud to say I am apart of the Seattle music scene. RIP Mark, your spirit lives on in those who love music.
In the 80s I never thought I was going experience a time that music I liked would be mainstream. And then came the 90s grunge seen came to life. What a great time to play and listen to music. This song is an excellent example of that golden age.
But the Normies attached to the Alternative then
The 90s when rock music was at the apex , and sublime. And given it it’s last ounce of blood & glory. Never to be matched again...
R.I.P. Mark.. We here in Seattle mourn for your loss. You were a Godfather of Grundge. A true pioneer.
saw these guys open for the Spin Doctor's in fall of 1993 in Stowe VT. Show Priceless! Thank you Screaming Trees!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember college nights in Ellensburg hanging out WAY before they were Heros. Mark and Mark were as real as they come!
Living in Seattle in the 90's. I was so fortunate.
Likewise... also lived in Bellingham and Olympia
Same. It’s nowhere near the same. Magical place back then for sure
@@nordicpride9708 100%. Definitely not the same as it was.
I bet-and what a time. Being in Chicago wasn't bad, though ;). Cheers to a magnificent moment. xx
Hasta siempre Mark Lanegan, tu voz, tu talento y música siempre abrazarán nuestros caminos.
RIP One of The Greatest Voices of Alternative Music 😭😭😭
RIP Mr.
I like that town drove through it many times heading to white swan for ceremonies
one of my faves of screaming trees. i have shaken hands and talked a
little to mark lanegan several times when he played here in sweden - it
was magical but i have never in my 32 years of life been so nervous. i
have loved mark lanegan and screaming trees since i was a kid.
I grew up in the trailer park right outside of this rodeo arena in Ellensburg,Washington. Rest in Peace, Mark.
this entire album is amazing, such an underrated band
Man, to be able to go back and hear this for the first time again. Mark had a remarkable voice RIP
RIP Mark love this song so much you helped me find my dog when she was a pup your words helped guide me from within. Enjoy the ride bro you earned it

Our beloved friend Mark Lanegan passed away this morning at his home in Killarney, Ireland. A beloved singer, songwriter, author and musician he was 57 and is survived by his wife Shelley.

I met you a few years ago at AFK Tavern in Everett ans you were such a nice and humble dude. I wish we could have jammed.
Another one of the great Seattle voices gone before their time. Unbelievable.
Indeed. :(
Our generation dies but the music lives on.
RIP Mark Lanegan.
