I've been listening to this song for a couple of days to see if I can catch the Pearl Jam in it. I think the way the lyrics are structured feels very close to how Eddie Vedder writes his songs. But sound wise, to me, the way they execute feels more like Nirvana + Blind Melon. The Nirvana comes in the chorus with how hard they go with the yelling, guitar distortion and drums. Way to hard for Pearl Jam. In the verses there's a lightness that you can only get from a band from California, like Blind Melon... or one from Australia...

Just a small (possible) correction I think what he may be saying is "you got away 'til, fat boy, fat boy, away 'til tomorrow" It's a threat with the promise of future threats. It's much more effective for a bully to have this kind of tactics. One of the most underrated bands ever imo These guys were 15 when they made Frogstomp and it rocks from start to finish. Daniel Johns is a great vocalist from that time and the songs were good. Not bad for three fifteen year olds they recorded their debut album Frogstomp on their Christmas break from high school!!! 🤘🏻🙃🤘🏻
I played in a couple of bands around that age, and these guys were really special. While he still hadn't grown into his voice yet when Frogstomp came out, these guys were light years ahead of where I was at this point. The attention to detail and overall song craft allowed them to create songs that still hold up all these years later, even as teenagers. They were really special, and I just wish that life had not gotten in the way.
Had the privy of seeing these blokes live, mosh pit included at Coffs Harbour. Cannot replicate those memories. Thanks You Silverchair for memories I’ll forever cherish. “Those were the days”.
I still have my original frog stomp album on cd that I bought in 2000. I bought my Chevy s10 that same year. Still got the truck, still got the cd. Still rocking both 24 years later. Would give anything to go back to those times
THIS SONG. F**KING ICONIC. I am so honoured to have grown up in the 90's with this incredible band. Aussie grunge deserved so much more. Daniel Johns, you are an absolute MASTER at what you do. There hasn't been one song that i haven't liked from you guys. That's just how f**king amazing you all are.
@@corey-bird3489 I don't think wit means what you think it does. Why would they try to use wit in saying what they were saying? Keep up. You also happen to just be listening to how a lot of Aussies casually chat.
I'm 43 and this song came out when I was 15 and in the full throes of youthful rebellion and this song seemed to me derivative of "better" artists of the time... So I grew up in the 80's listening to what has been called hair metal and rock. Bands such as Motley and Whitesnake. This song kicked my ass when I first heard in the 90's and still does. The passion in the voice combined with the mix of the song is amazing. The drummer as a great style and feel when he plays as well. Well done boys.
I saw these guys live in early 1996 at the Australia big day out festival. I don’t expect I’ll ever see such young kids with such a massive sound and stage presence to match it - EVER AGAIN.

There's something almost chillingly beautiful about watching really young, talented musicians playing their own original music. Fantastic. As good as, or better than the first time i heard this.
I had "frog stomp" on cassette & about wore it out in my old cassette deck, blasting it outta my rear speakers... driving around my 1st car a 70 mustang. Still love their music! Great days of grunge!
My first car was a 83 Celica GT and my second car was a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird with a 5-speed my third car was a 85 Mustang 5.0 GT convertible for the 4-barrel carburetor and choke. God those were the days

Just a small (possible) correction I think what he may be saying is "you got away 'til, fat boy, fat boy, away 'til tomorrow"
It's a threat with the promise of future threats. It's much more effective for a bully to have this kind of tactics. Believe me, I was born up north and moved down to Southeast Georgia and holy shit, one thing so then Baptists do, they want to make sure afraid of every waking mode in your life whether it's bashing in your window with a rock with John 3:14 on it or just keen the hell out of your car and calling you a f*got because you listen to nine inch nails and Pantera.

I agree love them 😅❤
I had no idea these musicians weren't even old enough to get a drivers license when they recorded this. Makes it all the more remarkable.
This is so good but you must hear "The Wave" or "Whispering Wolf" by SLT 🤘🎧🐺
For there age they really had extraordinary talent.Even today I have yet to see a band/group come out who even come close.
Yep
They were old enough at that time to get a learners license in Australia 😊
They were still in school, they had to get tutored😅🎉🎉❤
Never gets old. Excellent message. May all drinking water be clean for all.
Haha
I still wonder who the pig is ? " Kill the piggie " from Lord of the Flies ? or some dictator ?
Gosh I am old, I remember Lord of the flies.... LOL ?
@@jleffel6969the joke flew right over your head buddy
I played in a couple of bands around that age, and these guys were really special. While he still hadn't grown into his voice yet when Frogstomp came out, these guys were light years ahead of where I was at this point. The attention to detail and overall song craft allowed them to create songs that still hold up all these years later, even as teenagers. They were really special, and I just wish that life had not gotten in the way.
Seriously. Talented and focused.
because they were a manufactured industry plant band lol
Had the privy of seeing these blokes live, mosh pit included at Coffs Harbour. Cannot replicate those memories. Thanks You Silverchair for memories I’ll forever cherish. “Those were the days”.

U gotta hear this :) !!!
Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.
@@corey-bird3489 I don't think wit means what you think it does. Why would they try to use wit in saying what they were saying? Keep up. You also happen to just be listening to how a lot of Aussies casually chat.
Still relevant. Easily my most listened to song of current years. Epic.
Most underrated band of the 90s and my first mosh pit at 12 years old. What a time to be alive!
I'm 46 and this song came out when I was 18. I served in the Marines from 1999-2007 and we played this song on our convoys in Iraq in 2003.
Thank you for your service
I'm 43 and this song came out when I was 15 and in the full throes of youthful rebellion and this song seemed to me derivative of "better" artists of the time... Now a couple decades later I'm discovering that they were underappreciated artists. :) Thanks for sharing your story and I hope you enjoyed mine.
@@bfrierson88
If he is honest with mostly himself and then you, all he did was fight illegal wars for banker profits.
How did America’s military “serve” anyone in Iraq ever in recorded history?
Please, wake up man.
The marine you’re thanking likely has his heart in the right place, but was fighting for bankers.
@CongressSux1776 bro...shut the fuck up. What have you done with your life? Nothing.
cool story bro
I feel like we can appreciate older music even more now that today's music is trash. The music actually had meaning to it. This song is still gold 🔥🎵

The Silverchair in me just brought me back here. Great song. Great band.
Early 90’s grunge was awesome and these guys so young and sounded awesome!!!
Who in 2024 is already 40-something years old listening to this, what memories of our Unique Adolescence...
I’m 17 keeping this shit alive
@@andrewwoyak6908it's the youth of today that need to keep this alive. But you all missed out on the best times. Nothing will ever come close to how amazing it was living through this

girl u ar old!
I'm 53 and still listening to this stuff!
I remember the first time I heard this song on 120 Minutes. Silverchair had been a part of my life since then!!!
37 now and my love for this band will never die!!!!!!
that's where I heard it, too :). 39
We are LEGENDS just like this band!!!
Ahhh the memories. I was 13 when this came out living in Indiana. It was our anthem for several years. Still love Silverchair 🤟🤟❤
Oh my gosh, me too! 13yo, in Indiana! How crazy.
He had a shockingly good voice for that age. A great rock front man.
Hmm apparently im not the only one reliving the tunes of the 90's. 🎉
I absolutely loved Silverchair in the 90s. Walking around, skipping school, smoking weed, being high, listening to Silverchair, debating with my bestest friend, Katie, as to why they were the best band. High AF!! Loved them times, miss you Katie!!
One of the best sounding bands of the 90's. I just wish Daniel Johns would go back to the raw rocky grungy sound they had back then. Daniel, if you're out there reading this, please grab your guitar. We miss you, lad!
Was also said he will never return ever to silverchair! He's a funny lad got some issues and one being he can't do the same project over and over he likes new fresh things :)
@@buck71164 But his “New,fresh thing” DREAMZ is freaking awful, just sad and lost, hanging out with a complete tool!!! I mean who the hell calls their band DREAMZ?!?!?!🙄🤯😢
Agree

Yup just got the chills again. I remember getting this album at 16 and thought wow this music is timeless and it is because now I’m 45 and the Shit still gets to me.
I truly thank God that I was alive to hear that kid sing live. A once-in-a-century musical miracle.
Into my 50’s now and still loving this from the UK, went to Australia in 97 and these were big back then, listening takes me straight back there - good times 🙌🏻❤️
Holy shit I've never heard of this band, they are soooo good
💙 I growed up with these guys. You have to hear the full album FROGSTOMP (then FREAK SHOW) and will love them.
Its about the time to know them more 👍
They used to be my absolute favourite band growing up. This is is probably their best song though to be honest.
Sptotify recomendations anyone?
they were from down the road from where I live no, Newcastle, Aust xx
So I grew up in the 80's listening to what has been called hair metal and rock. Bands such as Motley and Whitesnake. This song kicked my ass when I first heard in the 90's and still does. The passion in the voice combined with the mix of the song is amazing. The drummer as a great style and feel when he plays as well. Well done boys.
I miss the 90s .. music...58 yrs old.. Still rockin never stop listening to it. Brings back good memories.
I saw these guys live in early 1996 at the Australia big day out festival. I don’t expect I’ll ever see such young kids with such a massive sound and stage presence to match it - EVER AGAIN.
Yep 👍
I'm trying to think of something relative maybe when Faith no More was new
Or Alice in chains released dirt
They didnt play BDO '96
@@Spedly well it was around about then. My memory’s not that good sorry.

Com certeza foi uma época sensacional! Foi uma das primeiras músicas que aprendia tocar no violão / guitarra!
Que?
One of the most underrated snd super talented bands of all time! I will never understand why they weren't taken more seriously! Just because they were do young. They were still more talented than most bands their elder! The singer had a voice beyond his age and the whole band had talent beyond their elders! Totally miss these guys,!
Loved / Love this entire album so much.
Beyond the fact that this song is a timeless banger, Frogstomp is a helluva album. One of the best from the 90's.
My favorite of the 'grunge bands'...
One of the best songs ever. Over and over . Never gets old
Slay those vocals.
Speaks volumes about the hugest current issues
Please elaborate.
Ok well they were talking about greed. Water is getting cleared up, drinking water
The grunge will never be forgotten!❤️
I was 16 when this came out!
Daniel Johnson is the same age as me.
I couldn't believe a bunch of teenagers could be so good and get so big post grunge scene.
I was jealous tbh!!

I'm 64, and the song beats the shit outta the crap that serves as "music" these days!
One of the greatest musical works ever created. Thank you, Mr. Claypool.
what a time! what a band!!! I miss the 90s and Silverchair... and the freedom, the music, the rocking vibes, the confrontation, the normality of being "different" and/or "unique" ... and crazy teens going around screaming their souls out!

The 90s-est 90s guitar sound ever. What a terrific song!
I still love silverchair after God knows how many decades. Awesome band
😊
Silverchair has been one of my main stables of music I have always ran to in my life. This song in particular I can remember exactly where I was at when I seen it for the first time! I was young and it just imprinted itself permanently. Especially since they were all youngsters when they started. We've been able to grow up together and that's priceless ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you all for always being there!
The song that started it all!
Silverchair is my favorite band.
Frog stomp and freak show were everything as a teenager. Then Neon Ballroom absolutely blew my mind. Still my favorite album ever. Plus diorama is another masterpiece
I am 40 this year and the same age as these guys. It's amazing. Such a great song that is forever an embodiment of the 90s.
I am so glad I have discovered this band. as a 16 yr old this is awsome to see these guys.

This has been for over 20 years, is and will always be my favorite song of all time. #2- whatever is too hard to pick but this one was easy for me. When my Dad put it on in the old truck back in probably 1999 it changed my life. Been playing and singing ever since. Thank you Silverchair. Llamas forever 🤘💙🤘
