what I like about the 6 months later "timeframe" is that you get some updates that people that review products when they just launched don't get. one thing that was just launched for the Nest Hub 2 is the swipe up drawer for quick access to some apps. Still on the "Preview" program, but made the little screen a little more useful, almost like a not-so-portable tablet.
This device us been a life saver for me as an adult with ADHD. The ability to just speak reminders & shopping lists rather than having to write them down (and lose them) is great. It also helps me figure out how much sleep I'm really getting; just because I went to bed at 1am and woke up at 7am clearly doesn't mean I'm getting 6hrs of sleep! No wonder I'm always tired 🤣 Truly thinking of getting a Pixel phone just because of how much more I prefer Google Assistant to Siri!
Watching this video thinking "Damn this might actually help my ADHD in a lot of ways" And this is the first comment I see haha. Keen to give it a shot.

Most annoying is telling it to turn off the bedroom light after I get in bed, then having to get up and turn it off myself. I usually end up telling it, "You know you can be replaced by a speaker!" The sleep thing on the new one might be interesting, but not $100 worth -- and I'd be enraged if they wanted to start charging me $$ for that after a few months. All in all, it's just another brick in the wall!
Serous question. Why do some people support companies that could care less about privacy and security? You get a security camera from a company that tosses security right out the door. Malware is always on droids in fact 97% of malware is on droids. They still make it very difficult to block apps form tracking but they want to sellout to Facebook so they could care less about you and your safety. This is done on propose and everyone should ask themselves why Google purposely makes it so easy for malware and apps to track you.
Then they illegally pay Apple 18 billion dollars because they don’t want Apple fixing this problem. They didn’t want Apple making a superior search engine in fact they were terrified. It’s shocking people willingly give Google money and support 🙄
I am considering this to monitor a elderly parent while in their room. I want her to be able to alert me quickly if I am in a different room. I feel like this may be a good thing if I get the camera. But will we have to capability for two way conversation.?
Keep in mind that the air gestures doesn't work in places like Mexico because of some radar laws that Google doesn't want to iron out, same with the Google pixel 4

Thanks for the review, it was very thorough. I have had this device for a few days and one of the biggest downfalls for me is the alarm is sounds only and not music from Apple Music/spotify. Unless I just haven't been able to work out how to do this? Do you know how to do this?
Hi Hayley, you can set music for alarms by saying the command "Wake me up with music at x am" an Nest will ask you back what music to play :) After setting the alarm you will be able to see it on the alarms page and also modify the time and days. It will not have the option to change the music again so for different music you will need to create a new music alarm instead

Sleep tracking doesnt work well for me at all. Because of medication I sometimes have to get up at least twice a night. I just get right back to sleep. But the sleep tracking function cant handle this. If I get up at 3 and at 5 It registers for example that I slept between 3 and 5 forgetting the sleep before 3 etc. It is not consistent. Hello. Thank you for the review. One question plz: Is it possible to use the Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) as a standalone photo frame without connecting to a phone or tablet, without a Wi-Fi connection, but simply by uploading photos to the built-in memory?
I'm beginning to get a little disillusioned with Google. Right off the top of my head I think about the music I paid for. They forced me to put it on UA-cam music. Then when I listen to my music on the bus on my way to work my phone screen stays on while I am listening. The only way to turn my phone screen off is to subscribe. UA-cam TV is expensive. And soon I think they will start charging for UA-cam. If that ever happens I'm finished with Google.
I have the first Gen Nest hub and I just purchased a new WiFi router and I STILL get my nest hub losing the WiFi connection, why?? Maybe you can do a video about WiFi connections and equipment to purchase. Thanks....
Hey I had the same problem and I needed to fix the Wi-Fi channel in the router. I needed. To do it a couple of times and picked a channel that had a high frequency. Also, when it said to restart the router, try unplugging the cable out the rear of the nest hub after restarting the router. But then, changing the frequency of your Wi-Fi channel while everything was plugged in seemed to do the trick after a power blackout. Good luck.
Sleep sensing and quick gesture option not showing in the Google home app with latest update ... I have Google nest hub 2nd gen please give solution for that 🥺
A concern that I saw in reviews when it came out was performance of the touch-interface. I still see some choppiness in this and other videos that feels like it really shouldn't be there. How would you rate the device's general performance?
In my experience, the touch interface can be somewhat choppy at times when I swipe on the screen. Visually, it's somewhat annoying at times when I'm bringing up the settings bar from the bottom of the screen or swiping through settings but in terms of performance for most tasks everything works fairly smoothly.
I agree, but at the same time its $100. Can't really expect it to have a very powerful processor at that price point. Feel like it's a good balance between price and performance, because I dk that I'd buy one at say $150+.
Odd question, if you are unfortunate to be Burgled, can this device be locked prior to leaving the premises so that the burglar doesn't have the information contained on the device ?
I've been wondering the same thing. Not sure why there was no mention of security. I would seriously look at setting up a google account dedicated to this rather than use my personal one.
As far as I think, if its not connected to the same WiFi then it will default to trying to connect with no access to the account. I could be wrong, but that's how the Nest works at least. Setting up a separate account for it is a good idea but if you have UA-cam Premium or other premium/paid for services on your personal account, you will not have access to them.
^This, they’d need to have a Google Home app with your Google Account signed into it in order to restore everything since not a lot of data is stored on the device itself - Josh
is there a way to rearrange the music controls to put it on the 1st or 2nd page? it seems on the 2nd generation Google Nest Hub the music controls are much harder to find and have to go to a couple of screens to get to it
How did you set that screen up at 9mins?! Mine shows the camera feed (once I click on it, it never loads in the tile unfortunately) but I’d prefer it to show a light on a big tile.
That was a very helpful review as I am trying to do less business with Amazon and my Echo Show 8 is starting to wreak havoc for me, so thinking about getting a Hub 7, realizing the speakers on the Hub are not as high quality as the Echo Show 8. Give and take.
"Hey Google, what time did she leave?" Nest : "She quietly left this morning and left a note in the kitchen, I sensed you had a great time." "I did" Nest : "Good to know!"
I enjoy the sleep sounds while sleeping (white noise). Is there a way to not have it connected to my phone while I use this feature? It drains my phone battery during the night.
"The Alarm Clock functionality is quite good ..." An alarmclock with no battery backup is not what I call reliable. And that is a must for an alarmclock, isn't it?
none of the inside temperature works unless you spend £200 on the nest thermostat which only works on certain boilers and then its another £60 i think for a sensor because no other device is compatible unless you trick it a little and even then it will not display any temperature itll tell you if you ask it but won't display it.
Unless you want sleep tracking or hand gestures to control music it probably isn't worth upgrading. The screen in different ambient lighting scenarios is way better though on the Hub and the Hub Max. - Josh

Great review, thanks. I have the Gen1 Nest Hub, I would rate it as average to sub-par. I am extremely disappointed in Google’s features in the speaker range. I have a Home mini in almost every room of the house, it works fine for playing music or asking a question, that is about it. The alarm function is pathetic, I will set an alarm for 5:30am weekdays, but I have found no way of having the alarm pause for one day say if there was a public holiday. Every time it will cancel the entire alarm schedule and I will need to set it up again after the holiday. There is also no way I have found of editing an alarm from the Google Home App. That would have to be one of the most basic and easiest programming capabilities that even a smart IT savvy teenager could accomplish. In my opinion the Google Home App is beyond pathetic.
Hi guys, how do I remove the slide bar on the right when it is in clock mode. It’s just a vertical line on the right side and it’s honestly quite irritating to look at…
Thanks for the great video mate! I have one question, would you recommend getting this nest hub 2nd gen if you already own a nest hub max? If so, what additional benefits you could think of by getting a another hub? Will the front doorbell video live-feed onto both hubs at the same time if someone presses the doorbell? Cheers mate!
Yes, if the sleep tracking is worth it to you, that’s the main benefit over getting another hub max and yes, doorbell rings will show up on all displays at the same time.
In the Google community center, there are multiple concerns with the NEST HUB Camera not working once a doorbell is added to a home. Is there a fix to connect the Nest Hub camera connection after a doorbell or other cameras are added to a home?
To be honest I'm just looking for a bedside alarm clock with decent speakers. Don't need any chat features or extra things on a smart device. I currently have a Google Home mini in my bedroom, but it doesn't have a clock and speakers are just ok. Still waiting on a portable smart speaker/display that has them.
Not sure if it’s what you’re looking for, but I’m currently using a Lenovo smart clock. I have the first generation, but there’s a second generation that I think can also come with a wireless charger for other devices. I think I’ve seen it without the extension before, though. Anyways, as for the exact thing I use, it’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It’s basically just an alarm clock with Google assistant built in. The main screen is a clock, but you can also swipe over to see alarms and weather. However, if you set an alarm with a specific ringtone (I think it’s called impromptu, basically the tone changes every day) and your Wi-Fi goes out, the alarm won’t go off. Any other alarm tone is fine, though. You can’t set it up without Wi-Fi, but once it is set up, it the Wi-Fi goes out, everything else may not work, but the clock and alarm will.
I like my nest but hate how many apps i have to use to do one simple thing. Like alexa app lets u control ur echo through ONE app 😅 like reminders, alarms, tasks, and with google i have to open 5 different apps and theres alot of restrictions.
That depends. I've been able to get it to work with my Onkyo receiver which has Google cast support, but other speakers like Sonos won't be able to be added into cast groups.

@@6MonthsLater Thanks mate!
Does the device play radio station? this is feature very important.
It does! You can see more here: support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7071793?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid
In the Google community center, there are multiple concerns with the NEST HUB Camera not working once a doorbell is added to a home. Is there a fix to connect the Nest Hub camera connection after a doorbell or other cameras are added to a home?
Hello, is video calling or audio calling feature available in Nest Hub (2nd Gen).
Yes its available with google duo
Any advice on how to setup for a family!
When I tell google to shut off, it does for about 2 seconds and turns right back on??? I rebooted it twice but no luck. Any suggestions?
Will the sleep tracking work if it is brought to india. As sleep tracking is missing in Indian version.
Not sure, Google might disable that feature based on the devices perceived location.
@@6MonthsLater what's the price of Google nest hub 2nd gen in USA.
Can you use it totally hands free
i have an issue with the touch buttons on the hub. they don't seem to be touch sensitive
Can I force portrait mode? I will be using it while lying in bed, seems weird to me everything is horizontal?!
Hi can it be used as Bluetooth speaker? to be paired with cellphone for example thanks
Yes, it does support Bluetooth pairing.
@@6MonthsLater thanks
I like my nest but hate how many apps i have to use to do one simple thing. Like alexa app lets u control ur echo through ONE app 😅 like reminders, alarms, tasks, and with google i have to open 5 different apps and theres alot of restrictions.
Can you do a speaker groups with other devices that are not from Google? Like wifi speaker
That depends. I've been able to get it to work with my Onkyo receiver which has Google cast support, but other speakers like Sonos won't be able to be added into cast groups. - Josh
Right now the the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) is going for $50 anywhere its being sold!

Can I control the nest cam from the nest hub?
