Thank you for this great video.. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to upgrade any of my home devises to a hub but thanks to this video I ordered one to replace my home mini in my kitchen.
I love the Google Home Hub, the size and how it looks, but I ended up purchasing the Lenovo Smart Display (8 inch model) because it's on sale for $99 (at a specific store). My kids wanted the video chat capability, and for that price it was too good to pass up.
There is no hub built into the Lenovo. Each smart device will need to correct directly to WiFi or have it's own hub. Sadly, the Ring cameras are not supported.
Hello Brett. Thanks for the video. I didn't not fully understand what you said about Chromecast. Is the built in chromecast able to both send and receive cast video? Thanks.
Great review and the Nest Hub seems pretty awesome, but, unfortunately, I’ve seen many people complaining about the Nest Hub having multiple playback instability issues, music stopping randomly, video buffering, Spotify cutting out, and people that tried all the troubleshooting steps without finding any resolution, and it seems a bit unreliable for many people, according to what I’ve seen in the Google Nest community forums. Is it really a problem with many Wi-Fi networks or a software glitch that can’t be fixed easily? How reliable are them given a decent Wi-Fi signal? I’ll be happy to have it in my bedroom, but if I find out that it will drive me nuts due to instability and malfunctioning, I would rather not to buy it, and, perhaps, go elsewhere

Honest question: Could a tablet basically do the same thing and more?? I was waiting to buy this for the longest time but I honestly rather spend an extra $100-200 and get a actually tablet that could do much more.
Great question and something I need to cover more in depth. Yes a tablet can do all this and more. The biggest thing a tablet lacks is being always available, meaning your tablet will mostly need to be charged, is stored in a case somewhere or just doesn't hear your Ok Google to activate. Some of the Google Assistant responses may show up different but it should be a similar experience.
I actually LIKE that this is a limited device. I don't want to be tempted to access social media, email, work, or surf the web when I'm in bed. I have two tablets and an iPhone, and more TV's than two human beings need. It's not an all-or-nothing proposition. It's right-sizing.
Suggestions / Questions: Can this work with more than just the Nest Doorbell? Will it work with Ring, Skybell, etc..? Do you have to tap options on screen or can you answer the doorbell all by voice? A bit more time spent in this section would be great for many people looking for these options like myself and for elderly people who don't understand some of this newer tech but would be able to use some of it if it were setup for them.
If the smart doorbell supports Google Assistant you can view the camera but it won't just automatically show like the Nest Hello. I was only able to get it to use an automated response to send and not auto answer from the hub.
Google should have made it with a camera that either goes inside the unit when not in use or has something to cover it up. I truly think they missed out on that. Besides that it should be able to connect to any other Bluetooth speaker. But I guess they have to leave room for improvement for down the road
THIS WAS SO SPOT ON AND PERFECT. I have 5 mini's 1 in each room and my hub in my living room. use them as surround sound when im cleaning lol cant wait for the google hub max xl
I really love the Google Home Hub. This review is the only in depth one on UA-cam. I usually only watch your smart home videos, since I find those most useful to me. I really like how on the Google Home Hub, if you have UA-cam TV, you can watch TV straight from the display. Also, I like how it displays your timers. I always hate when a timer goes off on my Google Home, I always have to say, "Hey Google, stop.". But you can just tap snooze timer on the Hub. Thanks for posting this video, can't wait to see more Smart Home videos!
Installed mine in the bedroom yesterday. Love the clock dims enough not to disturb sleep. Alarm is easy to set; there is a 'snooze' function. Also like that I can control my Nest thermostat AND turn down the living room Sonos sound system. It will show the status of my Yale X Nest door lock, which doesn't work well to lock remotely. At least I can check from bed to see if it's locked. Down side: White noise is limited to a 1 hour play, I want it all night long. Doesn't access my Mac's extensive music library (which my Sonos system DOES access.) Accesses free music services (Sonos requires paid subscriptions.) I don't want to maintain 2 separate cloud accounts; I'm already subscribing to iCloud as I've got several Apple devices. I don't want to move to Google at this time. Would I buy this again? Yes, as it does almost all that I wanted. Definitely worth $79, which was the going price. My local WalMart had it for the original $129, but when I showed the clerk their website price, they made the adjustment. It pays to check!
Update three months later: I gave feedback that the ambient white noise should play until I tell it to stop, and miraculously it did just that, the very next light. Cool or scary, you decide. Added three lights to my living room (first floor, needed a Google puck for convenience as my DH would hate using the phone app.) Those work fine. However, when I tried to add a smart light (from the same package that works flawlessly in the living room) the Google Home Mini doesn't seem to know how to find/operate the bedroom smart light. When I bring the bedroom lamp to the living room, the puck there DOES operate it, although it SAYS it doesn't know how. I might rename the lamp to 'Living Room Lamp' instead of 'Bedroom Lamp' and see if the bedroom Home Mini sees it. The Home Mini DOES control the living room lights flawlessly. Does it need a puck in every room? This isn't clear. It's going to nickel and dime me if that's the case.
Thanks for the great video. Quick question regarding the Lights Controls... I can't find mine when swiping, but they do function via voice command. and then I can control ONLY the brightness. I use Feit Electric Smart Light Bulbs and then connected the APP to the Google Home. Which light are you using that are automatically showing in the Hub? Thanks again 🙂
The interface has changed a ton since here but as long as the bulbs show up in the Google Home app they can function on the Nest Hub. You can turn on/off, adjust brightness and so on. If you have the Hub and the bulb in the same room on the app you will see a on/off button appear on the Nest Hub.
@@TechWithBrett Thank you for the reply. I do have them in the same room, but the controls only appear when I ask google to turn the lights on or off. Otherwise I don't get the control as shown in your video. Thank you for the response, though 🙂
I found your channel a few days ago and enjoy your explanations. I recently purchased a Google Home Hub to share between me and my housemate. We both linked our respective accounts. (I watched your previous video about linking multiple accounts.) However my housemate and I have similar sounding voices. Could this be the culprit in the Hub displaying my housemate's picture when I am asking the question, and vice versa? Thanks
Thnx for another great video. There is only one thing i want to know. Because in your video it is possible to connect nest hello to the google nest hub, is it also possible to connect ring pro doorbell to the hub? I cannot find any information about it. Keep up the good work.
Hi Brett, I am back again! I went ahead and bought myself the Home Mini after watching your video, your videos are like my go-to now whenever I need guidance or information on Google devices so yup ... I am seriously considering the Hub now! 7:20 WAIT ... how does the Hub knows that they are someone YOU KNOW?? Could be strangers. 7:40 And OH MY GOD that is so meannnnn LOL! Awwwwww. What if 7:30 Google says "Hi there, Brett says "Go away" ... have a nice day!" Are those girls your daughters? There're pretty good actors!
I really appreciate the way you mute out the Google command. Most people leave it in their videos which is annoying, as you know, because it always sets off my home mini.
Tech With Brett does it really effect your energy bill? And what is the most useful features? Thinking about getting it for black Friday it's going to be $85 with all the discounts
Wow what a great video. I already had been a subscriber so when I saw this video was posted, I got up, walked across the room and flipped the mute switch on the 10" Lenovo Smart Display which is right next to my bed thinking that this 17+ minute video would be filled with "Ok Google." You went through the effort of muting yourself as anyone should! I wish I could subscribe again just for that! Big thumbs up 👍
Quick question. I'm thinking about installing google home in my parrents summer house, mainly so they can control lights and temperatures when they are not there and I'm just woundering if it can - and how easy it would - be turned this into a dashboard of sorts? Like something to put just inside the main door that they can see time on, controll all the lights easily (for example having all rooms show up and/or hue lighting profiles), see inside and outside temperatures and such, all on one main screen. It wouldn't really be used for calls, streaming or even really play music, just a first display when they enter the home to check on and control the house. Thanks
Brett, is the Hub a good gift for my child’s room or should we get one first? I want to get my 6yr old one for Christmas but I have been watching your videos and of course want one myself. What’s your advice?
One for each of you! If you want them to be able to watch videos on it then it is a good device, you can turn on filters and time limits. I have the Smart Clock in my kids room and they really like it. It can't play videos and has less on screen controls but it is really fun to have around. ua-cam.com/video/PpidA-n6fLM/v-deo.html
I think this is what my son has for me as a late xmas present. I don't know how useful it will be for me, but I will have some fun with it I'm sure. I'm still trying to adjust to my smart phone and all the things i can do with that, lol. ( I'm a boomer, so that's why) I have subscribed and saved this video for future use, so thank you Brett.
So I bought one because of your previous reviews and happy to say it's a welcome addition. I'm not sure whether it's a glitch, but if I want to cast audio from my phone to the Hub, it won't show up in the list of available devices, but it'll cast audio if it's in a group with audio-only devices. I hope they change that.
It works in cast enabled apps, but if I want to cast audio from apps that don't have that feature, there's a general "cast" button in my phone's notification menu (alongside Bluetooth and WiFi etc). I've been using this method successfully for the Home and Home Mini, but the Home Hub doesn't show up in that list. It's the same option as "Mirror Device" in the Google Home app.
Oh got it. Yes it does not look like it allows you to mirror the audio from your Android phone to the Google Home Hub. I will send feedback from the app.

Do all Google assistant ready light bulbs have all the control explained at 6:47. So can you control any smart bulb with all those controls like color and brightness
You forgot to mention the most important feature of the hub. When you have it installed on the nightstand you can have it play the sound of a gentle surf, rain or the sound forest critters make in order to drown out that annoying high pitched whine that mosquitos make when they dive bomb your head.
I really agree with this. I was debating getting this but I'm not sure. There's a deal at Best Buy that you get this free with Hello doorbell (that's the only benefit I can think off).

It's great, the only thing I wish was there, are more clock faces
Just bought one for my mom. Thanks for the thorough review!
This video was great! My parents and I had some questions about the Home Hub, and this answered all of them.
Awesome! Let me know if more come up!

Muting u saying google... Thanks for keeping my house from imploding
Thanks
This is my first time seeing this dude. All I see is HAWKEYE

Great now I can’t unsee that lol
I didn't see that coming, lol
i love that cast option. i can listen to music or watch movies or whatever while i'm working in the kitchen.
Thumbs up for including your family in the video.
Family first!
@@TechWithBrett Agree. You have a new subscriber.
Thank you!
Probably a stupid question but do you still need a hub for your lights and stuff like the Philips one or does this take care of that
Love how your dad is rocking and efy shirt!! 👍🏻
Thnx for another great video. There is only one thing i want to know. Because in your video it is possible to connect nest hello to the google nest hub, is it also possible to connect ring pro doorbell to the hub? I cannot find any information about it. Keep up the good work.
Omg this thing is the future i'm buying it tomorrow lol
Hi Brett, I am back again! I went ahead and bought myself the Home Mini after watching your video, your videos are like my go-to now whenever I need guidance or information on Google devices so yup ... I am seriously considering the Hub now! 7:20 WAIT ... how does the Hub knows that they are someone YOU KNOW?? Could be strangers. 7:40 And OH MY GOD that is so meannnnn LOL! Awwwwww. What if 7:30 Google says "Hi there, Brett says "Go away" ... have a nice day!"
Are those girls your daughters? There're pretty good actors!
The only thing I liked about this device is being able to tell those kids to go away 😂😂😂
Leslie Tehuitzil 😂😂
😍😍😍😍😍
I really appreciate the way you mute out the Google command. Most people leave it in their videos which is annoying, as you know, because it always sets off my home mini.
You Sent the kids away shame on you 🤣🤣🤣
Lol! They already had too much candy!
@@TechWithBrett 😆
What's to be ashamed of?
I was laughing my butt off at that part! 🤣🤣🤣
@@TechWithBrett True fact!
LDS alert @8:34. I thought i recognized those mountains when the kids were trick-or-treating! Great video. Shoutout from Lehi.
Haha! Thanks.
Can you make a video on the nest thermostat if you have it?
Yes I have it. Any specific questions?
Tech With Brett does it really effect your energy bill? And what is the most useful features? Thinking about getting it for black Friday it's going to be $85 with all the discounts
Was so excited to learn about muting. My grandchildren were driving me crazy. Thanks!
Donna Lancto what kind of grandmother are you?
Just got one for $49 from being a UA-camTV customer. Nice video
am getting it for free for being a Reliant customer!!
Big thumbs up 👍
Haha thanks! Thanks for watching.
Lost my cell phone and just asked Googee to "Find my Phone" She did!!!
Awesome, I need to cover this more.
It's such a great feature x
Can I set this up to find my wife's phone?! Game changer...so sick of having to go to Device Manager.
Yes
Quick question.
I'm thinking about installing google home in my parrents summer house, mainly so they can control lights and temperatures when they are not there and I'm just woundering if it can - and how easy it would - be turned this into a dashboard of sorts?
Like something to put just inside the main door that they can see time on, controll all the lights easily (for example having all rooms show up and/or hue lighting profiles), see inside and outside temperatures and such, all on one main screen.
It wouldn't really be used for calls, streaming or even really play music, just a first display when they enter the home to check on and control the house.
Thanks
Great breakdown and overview on a product! Well done sir!
Thumbs up for not pissing me off with the command words.
How did you display the page at 4:42 (ie, weather + events)? I can get the weather but not weather with events.
7:33 brutal, dude, just brutal..... Subbed
uP
Yes
I think this is what my son has for me as a late xmas present. I don't know how useful it will be for me, but I will have some fun with it I'm sure. I'm still trying to adjust to my smart phone and all the things i can do with that, lol. ( I'm a boomer, so that's why) I have subscribed and saved this video for future use, so thank you Brett.
The Google Home Hub is like a mini tablet that has chrome cast plugged into it
no its not!! it doesn't have internet browsing or Netflix
No keyboard no web browser no Google play apps etc
Great videos ..... question: can Google assistant be set to only react with my voice and my voice alone
I like that it can guide you during a recipe.
Awesome! What app are you casting from? I have not seen this issue.
@@KiJiHoon : This is exactly what I've been doing, first with my Alexa DOT, then with my Google Home....It is how I play my, Non-subscription, YT playlists on those two Devices.

@@TechWithBrett : Oh, I'm sorry to hear that 😒.

Will recipes from pintrest show up? My wife asked me and didnt know if it could, would you?
So it can pull recipes that Google has verified and added to their recipe database. It is possible the more popular once from Pinterest are available. Here is my video on how to find supported recipes and start cooking with them: ua-cam.com/video/XHcpFziNFXY/v-deo.html
David Cruz yes
David Cruz I recommend this device so much
Do you have a video showing how to setup and have control of a swann security system with google assistan? I have watched a few videos from other people, but neither one seems to make my google work. They might have skip steps or not showing all the process.
I like the way you explain things and show as much as you can. Thanks for sharing.
I don't yet. They actually offered to send me one but have not had time. Ha e you gone and set it up in the Add section of the Google Home app?
I like the EFY shirt :)
Oh what good eyes you have.
Do all Google assistant ready light bulbs have all the control explained at 6:47. So can you control any smart bulb with all those controls like color and brightness
Not a bad way to make it look like you have a haunted house! 6:45 lol
Thank you for all the information. And thanks for not saying "Hey Google"
You forgot to mention the most important feature of the hub. When you have it installed on the nightstand you can have it play the sound of a gentle surf, rain or the sound forest critters make in order to drown out that annoying high pitched whine that mosquitos make when they dive bomb your head.
This is so cool and informative 👍🏾✅
Just found your channel! Best Google Home Hub review I have seen so far. Thank you for muting "Hey Google" commands :)
Thanks for watching!
Lenovo smart display vs jbl display vs google hub video please
Coming soon...
In case you missed it: ua-cam.com/video/Wwpj2osGQb8/v-deo.html
How do you get that home screen with the weather and calendar? I can only set pictures or a clock
The inability to install apps, lack of camera and Internet browser cripples it's capabilities
I really agree with this. I was debating getting this but I'm not sure. There's a deal at Best Buy that you get this free with Hello doorbell (that's the only benefit I can think off).
I dont get why Netflix and a browser isnt supported.. I Mean.. A browser!? 🤔
Brett, I have a wink hub with My current Echo as a setup for my smart home. Does this mean I will be able to ditch my Wink Hub? and it will all be controlled with the google hub? I have Osram smartbulbs as well as Wink Pivot Genius strips.
Mine is on its way

Awesome review! Was wondering what brand or type of smart bulbs are you using, doing some research on smart bulbs now..
I would really like them to add the ability to add my own recipes to the hub to use. :/
Great informative video Thanks! Question: is there a ear phones jack, and/or can I connect wireless earphones to this device?
The biggest advantage of having this for me is UA-cam...
