Google's decision to discontinue support for certain features on Nest devices has significantly diminished the value of my investments in three Nest Minis, six Nest Hubs, and two Nest Hub Max units. These devices were cherished by my family, particularly for the entertainment they provided through interactive games. The abrupt removal of these services feels unjust and undermines the trust placed in the brand. It's reminiscent of selling someone a bacon cheeseburger only to reclaim the bacon after they've taken a bite-an act that would rightly lead to customer dissatisfaction in any other industry. Yet, the tech industry often operates differently, leaving consumers feeling exploited and disheartened.

What games do you mean? The quiz show? I am using the nest hub in our English second language classroom so any other functionality that I don't know about is greatly appreciated.

This is what happens when people without skills get in high positions. They have no contact with the reality and consider clients their own property, so they cancel products, features, start asking for monthly fees and so on. The profit may increase a bit at first, the shareholders will be happy but then the drop in sales will eventually force them to cancel the entire line and turn off servers for older products.

I’ve had one since it was called the Google Home Hub. It is in our kitchen and my spouse uses it as a timer while cooking and also to look up recipes and it gives you step by step instructions. We honestly love it. You get all the information you need at one glance…calendar, weather and news. But I’ve noticed Google dropping features…it worries me that they’re going to pull a Google and scrap it. I’ve always had a Google smart home, devices even a Pixel. I’m starting to wonder if we should make the switch to Apple home honestly.

I have the Gen 2 in my office and the Gen 1 in my bedroom. I use both of them every day for lights, alarms, timers, etc. I use the one in my office to do my everyday tasks, whether calculation or quick information needed.

Bought my daughter a nest hub 4yrs ago and she still uses it to get ready every morning. During the day, its a nice looking photo frame and a music player while were cleaning. Sure, GA feels a bit stagnant lately but it still does the usual daily tasks well!
Years later, 4 smart speakers, 3 smart TVs, 2 cameras, a full spread of plugs and lights, thermostat and Home Assistant later (lol), still appreciate the Nest Hub most.
Looking for a Max on good enough sale to buy 2 and retire a couple Home Minis.

I've had these since it's launch, the gen 1 is still going strong. Great for basic home controls. Got them in every main room. If they start losing anyone of the automation I use, I'd move all my automation over to Home Assist, and use the hubs to display it's interface. I'd actually like to move over to home assistant, but the deconstruction and reconstruction of half my automation would be a lot of work.
As of now, the majority of my home controls goes through tuya and onto Google home for the main UI. The kids and wife can handle the basic UI the hub offerers. But usually they use voice commands. And I have a few things automated.
If nothing else is a 40 quid (on eBay) it makes a fantastic stunning photo viewer, alarm clock and radio.

I have one in every bedroom in my house and they're great, really useful and my family use them every day for lights, music, alarms and timers. I have the Hub Max in my Kitchen and Living Room for the additional features and cameras. I started with just one Google speaker and slowly grew my smart home over time. I've gone all in with the Nest Doorbell & Heating controls. I also have Chromecast in every TV in the house, so the Hubs control the TVs too.

I’ve been a loyal supporter of Google Home and its devices, my first one being the Lenovo product. I agree 100% that the Next Hub products are great, Google’s support for them is a different matter. I also have a pixel tablet and am completely baffled by how it doesn’t work as well. For example, at the end of my night time routine, it asks me what time do I want the alarm to be set. The Pixel tablet responds with I can’t understand you when I tell it them time I want.
Looking at the Echo hub, I’m beginning to think that Amazon is getting home automation right as Google is driving off a cliff.

Sponsored BS. One cannot even watch G Nest Camera or Doorbell historical footage on a G Nest Hub.

    • @StephenButlerOne
      @StephenButlerOne 8 місяців тому +1

I have a nest Door bell, and a hub in most rooms, but I've never actually tried to watch historic footage on the hub. Ive only use it to peek at the live view to see if I can be bothered to answer the door.
I've always instinctively picked up my phone to look backwards. For me it's easier to pick up my phone then lean over a counter/desk top/bed side table etc...
You would think the hub would offer this though.
I'm thinking of getting a camera for my back garden, was thinking of a nest camera, about £80 on eBay, with nest aware now a decent price, I started thinking about it. But a lot of my smart home uses Tuya for the back end and home for the front. I'm thinking of a trying a Tuya comparable camera maybe. Pick them up for cheap on Ali express.
Funny thing is, until Google dropped the price of nest aware, I'd not even thought about a second camera for the rear.

Its great. Google can find the best music I like and play it on UA-cam. It makes specialized search. UA-cam is playing all day and night. I never turn it off except for the time I go to sleep. It also has a sunrise alarm and a snooz alarm with a variety of sounds. I like the speaker, you can listen to the music playing when you are in another room also but it's sweet and not describing.I Don't use the UA-cam search even if U can!I use the voice command only which is so easy to find and play a Playlist!I will buy another one!

I got both the Nest Audio and the Nest Hub for 130 euros a couple of years ago and I still love mine. We have our nest hub set up in the kitchen. Its great for showing timers while cooking, listening to music or podcasts and even a device where I sometimes cast my media to.
The Pixel Tablet is WAY too expensive for what it is in Euro-land. Why a 499 dollar tablet ended up costing 699 euros (749 USD) on this side of the pond is still beyond me.

As a current owner of this Hub DO NOT BUY IT.
Its the worst product ever released from Google. It's slow and clunky, the assistant is terrible, it's actually degraded so poorly it was exchanged for another. The new one worked for about the same time then slowly degraded again.

Walmart in 2022 discounted the Google Nest Hub 7" to $13.00 (yes $13) so i bought 5 of them and over the last 18 months from 2021 i had collected 6 of the Nest Mini speakers thru several streaming provider promos. Did the set-up in my home with 2 Hubs and 4 speakers. We only ever use a handful of the features but that is all we need ...... such a great set-up and we have music 24/7 from UA-cam for FREE which Amazon totally lacks. For the price i paid it will last for years with minimal support from Google.

I picked another couple up lately, £40 boxed off eBay. We have a fair few of them, they work really well for smart home interface, fantastic pic frame, and decent sound. For 40 quid, it's a no brainer.

I have a mini and fancy this as an additional hub. However, I do worry about it being a waste of money if Google doesn't invest or support it's use in the future.
I also have a chromecast attached to an old TV, which has proved useful.
Still seems expensive if I can cast phone to TV.
Thanks for the video, but I'm still on the fence.

I have a very specific question about the Nest Hub Max regarding watching content; If I'm watching a UA-cam video (or any other type of content) and I pause it then leave the room (or just ignore it) for a long period of time, when I come back the the Hub, can I continue where I left off? Is my content still paused and ready to play?
The thing that really infuriates me about my current assistant (Amazon Echo Show 8) is that no matter what your settings are, if you pause anything for more than 10 minutes, it returns to the home screen, and you have to go searching for the content you were previously watching. INFURIATING!

I have a Nest Hub (2nd gen) and I do want the 11" tablet. I am going to buy it but wanted to wait for Google I/O just to make sure there wasn't an updated version coming out.
I use both Apple and Google. Love both, and use both. Plus the nest hub is also my digital picture frame. I love that feature and I have Philips lighting and Ecobee AC hubs etc. I am all in on these devices.

Also as others say in the comments the UA-cam connection is free that Amazon completely lacks.Althouth I have youtube premium because I don't like the adds and I like the background playing. But it's not necessary to have premium in nest hub if you don't care about adds.

I think what Google fails to understand is integration.
The decisions they make for highly integrated devices such as the Home/Nest line affect everything in that ecosystem and make people rethink Google as a whole moving forward.
When they remove/break enough functionality from any of these devices or stop supporting them it will cause customers to look at other options such as those from Apple and Amazon and if they decide to change out their IoT they will likely decide to change ALL OF IT including phone in the case of Apple.
What this means is they lose customers not just Nest customers.

Google meet and Google duo video calling on the Google nest hub max just can't work together with the Phone and chromebook plus laptop because group video calling features on Google Meet just not available on the Google nest hub max, which can make video calling on Google Meet so confusing, group video calling should be fun on Google nest hub max just like on Google Meet
