Thank you for lowering your volume when you said “hey google” 😂
Mine still went off 3 times darn it.
For sure! My room would have gone nuts!
I totally agree with you 😊
P
Google ads are notorious for this lol
The fact that he took the time to lower the volume when saying "hey Google" earned a subscription. Real thoughtfulness is appreciated.
Nice work on this video Steve. Informative and right to the point, I just purchased a Nest Hub and this video is exactly what I needed to understand the features rather than reading through user's manual. Thanks for taking the time and making this video!
This was the most comprehensive explanation of the Nest I've ever seen. I've learned everything it can do. Before I viewed this, I just used it to view family photos. Thanks so much! Great job.
Thanks for the feedback!

@Steve DOES
Can you add this list to your description please? :)
Chapters in this video would be wonderful!
One year later, chapters are still appreciated. Thank you!
After getting back to back “sponsored” ads on my echo show I started researching voice assistants and pulled the trigger on the max after watching your very informative video. This smaller version would make a nice addition to the bedroom since it has the sleep monitoring capability. I’m liking this more everyday.
Thank you SO MUCH for lowering the volume when you say the trigger word!!
There was an ad on UA-cam that used the trigger word out loud and it always made my phone freak out.
Just bought our first Nest Hub and couldn't finish tutorial. This video was SO HELPFUL! Thank you!
Thanks! I learnt that it has easy access to the lights. Also that front door video comes automatically to the display. Handy!
I knew it provided recipes, but seeing the demo made me realise what a good job it does - making it easy to choose options, and then how well it presents the recipe/instructions. Neat!
🤐🤐🤐🤐
The most informative 17 mins to help me with my purchase decision.
Thanks so much for this video. My son in law bought one for me last Christmas and I didn't really know what to use it for except for music......but now I know much more. Looking forward to using it much more.
Thank you for lowering "hey Google" command audio. That really helps..
Thanks bro
Otherwise 150k people would've come home with a pineapple without knowing why 😂
One of the best review videos I've seen on anything, great stuff! Not into tech but you got a sub from me
Dude this is a perfect review. Literally perfect. Subbed 🤙
I appreciate how informative and aesthetically pleasing this video is. I did want to let you know that I have had success pulling up specific videos on UA-cam by saying "hey Google play on UA-cam.....(video title/video title search you prefer )"
Thank you.... Finally got this thing working! I have been trying to get it to work since I moved 4 months ago. You're a blessing.
So, I had a 50 dollar credit on my Google account and then for being a UA-cam plus member for a few years they just sent me an email to get the hub for 49.99. So I will be getting the hub for the 3.24 it costs to ship it. I'm pretty excited to basically be getting this device for free. Thanks for your video it's really helpful to learn all the things I will be able to do with the hub.
I just got my email to excited to get it 😁
I just got the email too 👌
Exactly why i'm here too....lol. Bummer it doesn't have a camera though. I'm an Alexa household but for $50, maybe cool to try out. Also a few months ago I got a free Nest Hub Mini for being a UA-cam Premium member. They are really trying to hook you into their ecosystem.
@@manuelmesa5251 I love Google but yeah it is weird that it doesn't have a camera built in. But whatever, for 3.24 I'll give it a try.. 😂
Just got mine also
Omg you little girls alone made this the cutest video ever 😩🙌🏾. This video was so in depth and to the point. Thank you for this quality content.
Thank you so much for explaining about Google Home Hub (I got 1st gen) and the features. It helps me understand what I can do with it. Thank you for captioning the video.
Very helpful video especially since I had no idea you could cast from your phone to this device until I saw this video. Thank you for this post🤜🤛🏾
Did you learn anything new from this video? If so, let me know in the comments.

Learnt video casting and Bluetooth speaker (how do you connect?). Is there a link to a user manual for all this?
Can I have view google images with this device? Let's say I ask to show me pictures of Eddie Vedder, would it display pictures on the screen?
@@soniacoplin5885 Yes, but it's kind of limited.
@@SteveDOES thank you!
You live 24 minutes from Disneyland?? Damn that’s lucky.
Great video, learnt a lot thanks
Your kids are awesome! Love their interaction with the Nest Hub!
Thanks :)
Best review I have seen on this product with a lot of helpful hints. I too would like to thank you for lowering your volume when you say "Hey Google". :)
Thanks for the vid.
Would love to see a demo of setting up Eufy Homebase Pro with Nest Hub.
Thanks from Australia.
Cheers very helpful my wife is going to love this device
I deeply appreciate an actual thorough review. Thank you for your time and hard work. Genuinely
Thank you. Learned so much for my new Google Nest Hub.
"Oh Man"! Love your sweet daughter and how she helps you out! Great video, thank you!
Thank you very much for your help.
I really appreciate your hard work for a good video.
You've helped me a lot :)
Happy to hear that. :)
Thanks so much! These are on sale for 54.99 in target, picked one up and watched this video immediately!
Best complete video of a device review
Ironically, when you started the video with a fast "Hey everyone" my Google fired up asking what I wanted 😂😂😂 must be because I'm British 🤣
I just picked up a Nest Hub and in the first 5 minutes learned a bunch of neat tricks, thanks!
Love the video..... My nest hub is on its way..... Your video is the only one that gave me idea what to expect out of it......👍
Thanks! Clear, informative and concise.
your baby girls are so adorable! thanks for the review it was super helpful
I am heavily into Amazon Echo. However, I also own Hub and Mini. I don’t use them really. I would like to use them. Glad you are showing me features I could use. I know I won’t leave Amazon, but it is cool to have other options.
I did thorough research on both before buying. Turns out the Google Hub is actually more private/secure. That's why I chose it over Amazon.
@@secretsquirrel7300 Mate you have a phone. Being corned about which one is more "private" is useless lmao
@@_nyx you have a right to your opinion dude.
@@secretsquirrel7300 - all this privacy/ secure crap is just silly. Are you discussing state secrets? No? Then who cares.
@@MrCostaC I care. If you don't, good for you.
Awesome ive had one for a week since they went on rollback for $49! Thanks for the helpful video dude
Great instructional and fabulously explained how you can use 'Google' to transfer sound to other devices and speakers...
So many people don't believe what applications can be used to use all you described...
Whether legal or illegal.
Thank you. Explained so clearly everything i need to know about it and I will be buying one now 😊..

What a great video, thanks mate, and I love the way you included your kids into it, that was very cute!
Good video and very helpful! Thank you!
Question:
When you cast video from phone to the nest hub from UA-cam, not the UA-cam Premium, will the ads get skipped like if you cast to Chromcast or is it basically the same as viewing on UA-cam with the ads? Thank you!
Seeing this was on sale at BestBuy was curious of what it could do. Your video answered all questions, even ones I didn't have. My concern was if it could play streaming services. Thank you, sir.
Excellent and thorough coverage of all that the device (recently acquired) can do, Steve. (PS Thank you too for sharing pics of your family. You are a lucky man). Removing the crackle at the tail of Topic switch would improve future vids. Just a suggestion.
Hugely helpful, thank you! I assumed it had the full UA-cam app and a Chrome web browser, I’m glad I found out it doesn’t before purchasing.
How does this man not have 10mil subs ??!!?. Perfect review. I cannot believe it has taken me this long find this channel. Subscribed ✅
I have the Google Nest Hub Max and I really like it. You showed the video call option so I looked further into the Google home app and it showed that I can "Call Home " from my cell phone straight to my Google Nest Hub. Many folks would say that we can already do that with our cell phones, but my mother while in the kitchen, didn't have to pick up her phone to talk and see me when I was at my desk at work when I made the Call Home feature to my hub and showed her how I fluff up eggs and heavy cream with my wrist motion. Plus she can see the new mask that she brought me and I can see that she's wearing the new pajamas i got for her. Google has truly changed our home and it's totally going to get bigger, fast!
Was trying to figure out how to view my doorbell on the hub , now i know how! Thanks sir
This was very helpful, thanks!
Awesome video. About the video calling, the larger Google Nest Hub (Max) does have a built in camera so that one does support two way video calls.
yes, but only over google's own app "duo", not sure how that is for you but here in sweden noone has that, out of my 300 contacts only 5 appeard and could be called from it
Thanks for making this video! Looking forward to more.
Great video, I can see a lot of effort went into making it!
Great review! I just ordered myself a 2nd generation Google Neat Hub and I cannot wait. I may be a bit late to the party, but I am super excited to try it out! 🎉
Yay! welcome to the Google family.
Not sure if you celebrate Christmas, but you can have your daughter call Santa.. its really cool ...
Thank you for sharing 🙂
That's a great suggestion. I'll have them try that out. :)
You can also ask it to remember the passcode/PIN number of any kind, to remember where you kept the important documents, where you kept your car keys/any other thing. Which is also a cool thing
Yes, but doesn't Google already know almost everything about us? I'm keeping at least one password ONLY in my head but nowhere else forever -- just to drive Google crazy. Just doing my part for the remaining Luddites. There are remaining Luddites, right?
Yes, I am the Luddite King. If it doesn't have a dial or switch it must belong to my wife!!@@doughertycathy1111
Really interesting. I've just bought one yesterday. Thanks.
This video was a huge help to assist me to set up a new Nest Hub 7 that I hope will replace my Echo Show 8, despite the fact that speakers are said to be subpar on the Hub 7. I found a decent-quality Bluetooth stereo speaker in my closet that I haven't used in years and will simply have my Hub play music on the Bluetooth speaker, if/when necessary. My Echo 8 over the years has deteriorated in its responsiveness and I am phasing out Amazon products/shopping anyhow because they have become very anti-consumer in the past year or so, which goes against everything I stand for. I am confident the Hub will do all the functions I did previously on my Echo device.
Nice video! Thank you
Question, how did you get to group all your lights into "All Lights"?
While still putting them into individual groups?
It does it automatically! Set them up individually and once you’re done, it will display in the “Lights” icon
Great review about the pros and cons. Without fully controllable youtube, I fully know that I'll skip on this device.
Yeah he saved me $100
You can get youtube if u have a chromecast, roku and etc.
LOL omg your kid with the doorbell - adorable!
Just bought my Chalk model for $13.00, now I researching a good reason to use it for. Great review!
Thanks for the video!! I want to ask if the nest hub is also capable of monitoring energy consumptions?
It's a cute little television for the kids. ✨
Thank you very much for this video. It has helped me alot since I just got one for Xmas. I know this can do alot but didn't realize just how much. You have a pretty good snipit of what it can do...and I have now subscribed. Have a great year ahad!
thx for explaining everything.👍
Great video, simple to understand. I have the Google Nest Hub Max, sounds a lot better. Steve, can you please show, on one of your next videos, how to tag photos a favourite - from the hub. I know how to do so via voice command however the touchscreen method (tapping screen showing a photo you want to add to favorites or even delete/remove photo from displaying) is no longer functioning. Is it a setting or has Google removed this functionality? Cheers, TonyC from Down Under
Steve, I have read a lot of buzz on Reddit on why there is no easy Smart Button for google’s smart home. It would be great if you could solve that problem in a video as to what a work around could be (Ex. Flic with IFTTT…). An example of this is a room with lamps running off of smart outlets; a guest may not know or want to say “Hey google, turn on the lamps”, so a wireless smart button could be a good option.
Very well explained, THX!
Great video!!! Re: cooking with it in the kitchen - hand gesture feature is vital. Set it up on device and I can tap the air to pause a cooking video because of messy hands.
Thank you for not saying "Okay Google" outloud. This prevented my from going off!
your being watched
6:31 I was definitely not expecting to see ajr there, one of my favorite bands who aren’t really that well known, yet.
I love your video. Direct to the point and I learn a lot from it. Thank you
Thank you for a very thorough report on this device.
Hey Bret , Thanks for the great video on the Nest Hub though I’m Surprised & Bummed that it doesn’t have a camera for 2 way video calls , do any Nest display hubs have a camera ??
Also I understand that my Vivint Security sys is compatible with Google, is the Hub display compatible??
Would like to see how the nest hub handles home security tasks. Arming the system, notifications if someone trips the alarm (assume that I have no cameras, just door/window sensors and motion sensors), smoke/CO alarms, etc.
It does excellent with everything. I've got the whole home set with Nest products from thermostat to door locks and bells ect. It'll let you know when anything is left unlocked. It also intelligently listens to possible problems in your home...breaking glass, smoke alarms...ect. The Google home ecosystem is pretty amazing.
This video was so good. Found a sale on this device and purchased two because of the detail in this review. I am a Apple user and use apple HomePods but will be using this for a list of things.
Excellent explanation. Thank you
When it comes to software, Jeff Bezos can’t shell out enough money to match Google. Google has been and always will be number 1.

what about a review for Lenovo Smart Tab?
My Lenovo Smart Tab appears to do all the same things, almost identical screens too. Perhaps a Google Hub vs Lenovo Smart Tab is needed.
Wondering if you could do a video update on everything that Google has changed and removed from this platform. Specifically, these three features, primarily the first two.
01: In their most recent update, Google has removed visual responses on Google Nest Hubs and other home products with screens. For example, if you ask it to spell a word like "dyslexia" after the update, you will only receive a minor title response for three seconds, without a visual large format response lasting for more than 30 seconds. This means you won't see the word "dyslexia" spelled out on the screen anymore. Many dyslexics, including myself, relied on this feature, and it was a significant reason for purchasing this tool, which offered a desktop spelling system with a picture frame and other features.
02: Another change in the recent update is the removal of ethernet support for the 7 and 10-inch models. Previously, there was a micro USB on the white cover of the 7-inch model that allowed you to connect a USB to ethernet adapter. This feature provided a reliable IP address with fast response and eliminated the need to reacquire an IP address. Unfortunately, this capability has been disabled in the latest update.
03: Additionally, Google has removed good quality synchronized audio in their recent update. Previously, if you used ethernet, you could synchronize all your devices, including the Mini and standard Home speakers, without signal drops or random reacquisition issues. However, with the removal of micro USB ethernet support for the 10 and 7-inch models, achieving reliable synchronization has become challenging. Now, you are limited to using Wi-Fi for all devices, which is less secure. As a result, latency has increased, affecting the quality of audio responses. The unit's response is no longer accurate, even when I am in close proximity to the device, while other units further away respond instead, causing confusion.
04: To summarize, Google has removed support for dyslexics, eliminated secure network access via ethernet, and made it difficult or impossible to achieve perfect audio synchronization with zero milliseconds delay. There may be more changes that I haven't discovered yet.
05: So, for me, my 7-inch Google Nest Hub with a screen has now become primarily a picture frame, timer, and a minor home automation visual unit. In fact, since I have a computer in front of me that can perform all of these functions, except for visual spelling and audio synchronization, the practicality of the Nest Hub has significantly diminished.
Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences with these changes in the comments.
