I learned to crochet when I was 8 years old
I’m 71 now
Still learning ❤
I learned continental knitting at 9 and did not crochet till about 30. I rarely knit anymore. BTW the switch from continental to crochet was easy! I'm now 74🎉
Isn't it great that we never need to stop learning? 💗
Great! Ilearned knitting and crochet about the same time, and then both are taught at schools on the same year here.
Yes please for more of these "fine tuning" videos Tuula! They are fascinating, useful, and practical, as well as unique in the sense that they are something you can't necessarily "search" for very easily.
Your tips and tricks, combined with your clear instructions and teaching skills are absolutely TOP TIER, and an essential resource to anyone who has an interest in crochet! 😊
Thank you so much! 💗 You are right, there are quite a few things that would be hard to know what to search for. I will continue doing this type of videos at times, just thought of the subject for the next one!
I love your tips and tutorials. They are always practical. Instead of following a pattern blindly you teach us how to understand a stitch and vary it to suit an individual project.
Glad you like them! Yes, I find it so important to understand what you are making and how to adjust!
And thank you for all the knowledge you are passing forward…much appreciated by this 77yr old who has only been crocheting for a few years. Thank you from Liverpool England 💁🏼♀️
Thank you so much! Lovely that you have started to crochet later in life! 💜
Thank you Tuula, even tho I’ve been crocheting for over 50 years, I’m still learning new things and I’ve learned so much from you after finding your video on the absolute 10 essential crochet tips. You’re a great teacher, and I appreciate how you get straight to what you’re teaching.
The teenage you in the tree reminds me so much of my younger sister.
Thank you, so glad that video was useful to you! That's interesting that I looked like your sister! 😊
I learned the granny square from you. You are a wealth of knowledge. Thank you!❤
Thank you so much! 💜
Very helpful. Necessity is truly the mother of invention in this case.
Very true! 😊
Thank you! I have been knitting for about 20 years, always trying to build my skills to make projects look as best as I can. I found a really great knitter on youTube who has helped so much with her videos. (I would love to say her name here but don't know how you would feel about that.) Then I decided to learn to crochet because I thought touches of lace on things I sew would be nice. But it took off and now I love crocheting all kinds of things very much. But I hadn't found the equal to my knitting teacher...until now. I think you are her!! I will learn so much from you and wanted you to know I am grateful.
Thank you so much, so glad to hear! Glad you found me, hope there are things in my past content that are useful, as well as what I will be posting in the future. Happy crocheting! 💗
I loved seeing that picture of you as a teenager!! Young Tuula 😍
Glad to hear, thank you! 😊
So glad you’ll be doing more of this sort of thing. You consistently quality content that’s so useful to experienced crocheters looking to refine our craft (not the easiest thing to find online right now) that’s still so clear and accessible for relative beginners. Thank you for sharing your expertise with both camps.
Thank you so much! It seems that what I do has started to be geared more towards experienced crocheters little by little without an actual plan!
A happy accident, perhaps, but you’ve definitely found an underserved niche, and that’s the Holy Grail in business, so kudos. 🙂
Just wow! Thank you again!
Love your blouse - reminds me of vintage Chinese porcelain
Thank you! Right enough, that blouse has similar flowers!
Another really interesting and useful video. Thank you so much. 🧶
Glad you enjoyed it!
It’s magical. Your sweater as a teen was gorgeous. That’s an awesome skill.
That was the first Aran sweater I knitted 😊
This is a game changer for me 😮 Thanks Tuula
Wonderful! 💗
Thanks Tuula 👍💜🇬🇧
Love this series ❤
Lovely, thank you!
Adorable hair cut❤
Thank you! 💜 Asked her to cut it a bit shorter than normal becasue will be quite a while before I will be in my own town!
Interesting. I had not heard of half stitches until a few years back. A pattern I was making had half triple stitches. I didn't know why or that you could do that with other stitches. Thanks for sharing.
Great! They don’t seem to be common but still useful!
Oh what a great tip thank you.I have had trouble with this a long time 😊
Lovely to hear!
thank you
Thank you for being such a wonderful teacher and showing us tips & tricks to improve our projects, you're simply The Best!
Thank you so much! 😊💜
Hello, Tuula, love your videos, very interesting way to do this kind of increasing. And I believe that we can add other intermediate stitches… I recently was watching a spanish crochet channel and they show the “long“ doble crochet (they do the first loop alone, than 2 loops and 2 loops, and do the same to the treble stitch)…. It’s nice too😊😘
Thank you! Yes, that sounds like a good idea too, thank you! 😊
Thank you so much. Explaining it makes it seems so sensible and right. I have never seen it increase in height like that before. I am so happy I have learnt this technique. ❤❤
Great, glad it was useful! 😊
Thanks !
Welcome!
I can definitely see the difference.. it's perfect. Thank you so much for your great tips, that i have never seen anywhere else 😊
Lovely, glad it was something new!
I would love to know about when to use the different needles! The extended stitches have a similar height addition, I need to compare with these to see if there is a difference in how they look.
Yrs, extended stitches work too.
Different needles would take a whole video, there are so many choices. Could make one!
Thank you Tuula. I enjoy the helpful tips.
Lovely, thank you!
Thank you , Clever Lady Tuula. Your experience is so valuable 😊. Especially as I get older I get fussier to make things in the best way possible. Your hints & tips are so sensible! Especially useful when one gets an idea to make something & it becomes more & more complicated maybe, & involved! Best wishes 💓🕊️j c
Thank you, glad you find my tips useful! 💗 All the best!
Thank you! I'm pretty new to crocheting but I am very detail oriented, so your tips are very helpful.💚
I just found your channel today :)
Lovely, welcome, glad you found me! 💜
Very informative! Thank you for more great lessons!
Thank you so much! 😊
it never occurred to me to do that - thank you for this tip - it fixes my clumsy-looking shaping stitches perfectly :-)
Glad it helped!
Very nice sharing beautiful 👍
Thank you! 😊
Great Video Very Helpful Please could you do a video how to help when you have lost your motivation to crochet etc.
Thank you! That could be a good subject !
Great advice Tuula, thank you for all your tips. An open mind is an active one . ❤
Thank you! Absolutely!!
Thank you. And did you slip stich down the last one to start over?
I chained 5 to get back down to start.
I'm so glad I found your channel, Tuula 💕💕
Lovely, welcome! 💜💜
How strange ... I find that I do this unconsciously as I crochet. Now I know what I'm doing. Thank you Tulla
That's great! There are probably many things that people do without thinking much about it! Wish there was a way to collect all that knowledge from different people!
@@TuulaMaaria thatcrochet bank is called "You Tube". Among the thousands of channels, however, there are only a small handful who present well ... yours is one of those. Thank you
You are a treasure to us. Your tips are so helpful.
Thank you, happy to hear! 💗
An excellent instructional video, this is something I have been looking at for shaping. 👏👏❤️❤️🇬🇧
Glad it was helpful! 💗
I am thrilled the fact I found your channel. I been watching all of your videos and you are one amazing woman. I keep bouncing back and forth looking for up to date videos and the older ones. I'm so in love with this channel. I'm watching you from Pennsylvania, United States ❤😊

You are very brilliant lady. Thanks for your help🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️
Glad it was helpful!
I'm always learning something new. And here I thought I knew everything 😅
Great! I doubt anyone knows everything, I keep finding new things all the time! 😊
Thank you for this insight! I've stumbled over this issue as well. 😊
Great! 😊
I love the idea of finetune, I do that a lot, because I always love a pattern except a little the detail in the finish so I change it lol.
But I'm not as good as you, I'm pretty much a beginner.
It's great to make changes where needed even if you are a beginner, that way you learn more than just doing what you are told! 💗
Such a cuuuute picture of you as a teen!!!!!!! You are an adorable lady. Thanks for all your help.
Thank you!! 💗😊
I really appreciate your tutorials, Tuula. I learned 4 months ago to crochet and you really help me.
That's lovely, great to hear you started, happy crocheting! 💗
That half stitch when growing stitches is new to me. I don’t think I’ve seen this in a pattern I’ve used or if I have I was not thinking of it in this context so I’m not recalling it. Very good tip/hint
Great, hope you get use of it!
As always, great tips for refining yarncraft techniques! 🤩 thank you
Thank you Joanne! 💜
You are such a good teacher 😊 I did the ribbing bind off you showed very easy to follow
Thank you! 😊
A good example of using half stitches is a crochet heart shape.
Yes, true! Thank you!
Thank you!
👍
Such a wealth of knowledge. Thank you!
Thank you!
Great!
this is a generous sharing , great teaching …thank you 😊
Lovely, thank you!
This is really useful, thanks! I want to make a few blankets, and it'll help me to make my edgings look better 😃 x

Very nice sharing zabdast video beautiful work My dear friend
Thank you so much!
How did I miss this??? I LOVE this video Tuula!!! Thank you so much!!!💜🫂💜
Glad you found the video! 💜💗
This works so well. My projects look much better the more techniques I learn. I taught myself for 45 years but have grown exponentially since starting watching YT content.
Wonderful!
Tuula! Omigosh you have blown my mind in the best way possible! I have never even considered something like a double-half (2.5?) stitch, *but it makes complete sense*! Why doesn't anyone teach this, I wonder. Also, I hold my yarn the same way you do. It's nice to see that my style isn't an anomaly
There are many tiny things that improve crochet, I suppose it would be too long especially to write those on written patterns! Glad you hold your yarn the same way - very common at least in the Nordic countries. We get taught at school to hold closely to the way i do it - I have changed it a bit!
Such a cute teenager …and such a smart one too 😊✌️❤️
Thank you! I suppse it's a bit of a weird photo, up in atree! 😁
Not weird at all to me…I was always climbing trees …lol ❤️
