I moved form an a7r2 to a a73 last week. I've been using the a7r2 for 3 years and now my workflow is faster thank to the ergonomics the a73 has. A faster camera, really good image and video quiality and a fast autofocus and tracking system. Even though is a camera from 2018, I'm happy with it, for my budget it is the right choice. If you don't have a fullframe sony camera, I recommend you the a73 to start nowdays, is worth it for the price now.
man I might trade in my a7iii as well. been looking at the mark iv ever since they released it. looks like the perfect mix of photo and video capabilities!
Great video! Thoroughly covered the main differences yet remained concise. Especially loved that you reached a definitive conclusion. Far too many "Should you..." videos on UA-cam that end with noncommittal endings. Great job!
Hey brother..im so confused between canon R6 and Sony a7iv...I like canon colours..but dynamic range of sony is too good...what should I choose..?also can you tell me about colour science of a7iv..cz I think it came pretty close to canon..or I am wrong?
@@ankitkushwaha7174 To be honest I switched to Sony because the dynamic range, is a big difference, the canon cameras I sold where awesome and my favorite was the R but I tried the Sony from a friend and I noticed than the dynamic range is way important on a good photo, you can see the difference between both, canon and Sony, that’s why I switched to Sony, I was a canon fan but Sony is just amazing, that’s my personal opinion bro, plus the autofocus is way better than canon
@@LiilReyy I agree with you there. Dynamic range, abundance of third party lens options, price to performance amongst other things always tilts the scale in favour of Sony from what it seems. What an awesome camera, BTW love your UA-cam. I have just upgraded to the A7iv and pre ordered the new 24-70 GMii. I also traded in at the same Wex store to the same guy you were talking with. They gave me a great price for my 4 year old 24-70GM.
Mark, I’d love to see a video on your photography journey. From your first camera, to a hobby, to a profession etc. It would be great seeing your profession over the years!
I do photo/video and tbh, the a7iii is still plenty capable. Clients are ok with 1080 60, you can use the fake s-cinetone if working with other videographers, photo fps is better with the a7iii, plus you can grab a decent used a7iii for like 1200. Thats a 1400 difference if you're getting the a7iv. For that you can get a decent light kit. (Aputure ls 60x) Get another a7iii, or Get a decent lens.
I'm using the A7-III mostly for photography and probably I'll skip the upgrade for mk4. There are several new features yes, but in my country I could sell my a7iii for 1300 EUR, a new mk4 is 2340 EUR and noise level is worse. Still very good but I was shocked that after upgrading I would have more noise. It would worth 300 or 400 to upgrade, but 1000 is way too much to just have 5.5 EV stabilization over 5 EV in mk3, or for a fully articulated screen (which seems the worst part of the mk4).
I am currently using Canon 600D. I have tried Nikon from friends and family but I don't find it comfortable as Canon. After watching your videos on Sony cameras, I am getting inclined to buy Sony. Hopefully pretty soon

any heat issues? ive been looking at this for my real estate work and to make youtube content. It seems to be luck of the draw as far as overheating issues, theres so many reports that are all over the place, some dont overheat at all, some overheat after an hour, some overheat after 15 minutes shooting at 24p screen open setting on HIGH, etc... Alot of my shoots would be 1 chance only and something id have to get done rather quickly. I want this because of the oversampled footage, it looks amazing but that also seems to be what causes the overheating in the first place.
Hello. I've read some reviews on some sites as if there were some problems. It would have problems at iso above 2000, as it would heat up after 10 minutes of filming, it would have rolling shutter, etc. I don't know what decision to make. I thought about the Sony a7iii / a7iv or a7Riii. Somehow I was happy with the a7iv because it has a more advanced AF system and some extra resolution, but I'm worried about the iso problems, I don't know if they're real or not. If you can help me with an opinion to make a correct decision, it would be great. Thank you very much.
I don't think you should use, or recommend, the shutter closed when power off feature and here's why. Firstly dust will still get into the camera when you have it open and when you power up the shutter opens and lets it get to the sensor anyway. Secondly the shutter is very fragile being very thin carbon fibre, the sensor is really quite robust by comparison so its much easier to damage the shutter than the sensor. I hope this is helpful. Thank you for a great channel and enjoy your new camera.
While this argument is sound in theory, there have been no widespread reports of damage to the shutter from Sony users, or Canon users. Not saying they're not out there, but I haven't found any. So far all I've found is people repeating the same argument. If anyone finds reports of damages, I'd sure like to know, since I use the shutter down function. Maybe I'll be the first report...
@@leninzki How about the dust? Does the shutter down help?
