Excellent comparison of two well-regarded Sony mirrorless cameras. Thank you for mentioning and demonstrating the difference between the tilt-up-only limited articulation of the A7iii screen and the tilt-and-flip full articulation of the Sony A7iv. For solo shooters and UA-cam content creators, fully articulated screens (tilt-and-flip) on cameras like the Sony A7iv and the Sony A7Siii are greatly appreciated.
Great comparison Jake! As somebody owning an A7iii, an A7C, and an A7S3, I am still tempted by the A7IV.... But my rational mind tells me that there is hardly a reason to justify buying it... Usually I am quickly falling for GAS, but this time I think I don't. Hope my bank account will thank me for that 😋 Cheers from Germany
If your really on a budget, but are ready to make the jump to Sony, would you say that the A7iii and the 24-70 kit lens will suffice for the moment. My thinking is that once I’m on e Mount, I’ll be able to upgrade in the future, so if I get an A7iii, it would be a plenty good enough camera, and I can invest in a lens or 2, then at a later date when I can/do upgrade to the 4, I will be able to keep the lenses? I need it for both stills and video, not prop cession all at the moment, but I am studying a video/photo based course. What are the differences between the many A7’s? It gets consisting with the A7iii, A7s iii, A7c, A7r iii, etc etc. Anyone in the comments (or Mr Sloan himself?) with Sony camera experience, what are you thoughts? It’s a shame as I have 3 lenses I use often, but I really wanna move to full frame mirror less. Thanks for the info here, it’s really frustrating that there is no way to try before I buy. I’m deffo decided I am going Sony, but just don’t know wether to wait longer for the IV, or go for the iii that I can get pretty much straight away with the 24-70 kit lens, and have options for another lens, with plan to expand lens collection as & when. @@h-dawg969 if you don't have any problems with your D5600 or if it fulfills your style of photography then in my opinion why switch to Sony. If you could sell your Nikon gear for a decent amount of money then switching to the A7iii would be a good move of you prefer it's system and the many lenses that are available. Have you seen it heat up while using the clean hdmi out? Even idle without recording? I exchanged my first one for a new unit and still have the same problem. I feel like I'm crazy, Sony is trying to tell me that should be normal. It's pretty unusable as a video camera with an external recorder, like on a gimbal or shoulder rig. Make sure and change the auto temp shut off to high from normal (I show you how to do this in my setting and setup video) and then make sure the screen is opened away from the body. Keeping the screen closed will allow much more heat to build up internally.

Have a specific question. Love the a7III. Like to shoot holy grail timelapses in P or Av mode + Auto ISO. Seems to work perfectly until a certain point, then fails and goes to black. I think I read the IV has better exposure range and am hoping it will finish the job. Any thoughts? Thanks
It does have better exposure depending on what you are shooting but it will still stop when the settings get too extreme or run against the pre defined limits of shutter speed or iso etc. for example if you have your intervals set to 2 seconds and the auto iso is limited to 1600 then when the aperture is already as low as it can go for the lens and the shutter speed needs more than 2 seconds when the auto iso is limited the camera will go black

Hopefully the price will now drop on the iii
Hopefully!
This is such a great video and the best comparison i havebcome across, im stuck between the 3 and 4 i was committed to the 4 but i can get the 3 £700 cheaper leaving me some spare for a nice lense but other videos pretty much sell you the 4 this has really ahown how close they are the upgrades are cool but i dont £700 difference so looking like i will get the 3 😁
the 3 is still a fantastic camera!
I'm only here to see if Jake as got a new hat for winter.
ROFL sort of...
Nice review
Thanks.
@@JakeSloan Welcome dear
photo = don't upgrade
video = upgrade if you are professional, if you are hobbyist then no need.
agreed!
@@JakeSloan I was careful about limits. It just quit when it got to a certain point. I just ordered it, will check it out when it comes. Thanks
Very good god bless you
Cheers
@@JakeSloan very good god bless you free
I don’t shoot videos. It must be because of UA-cam. For videos a mobile or GoPro is good enou.
GoPro is great for a lot of things
that stabilization is enough reason for you to buy a7 iv
Agreed
