If you don't plan to slow down your footage or make a b-roll, always record 24fps! In that case, the Sony A7IV is the perfect camera. Also, the audio will fit perfectly with the recording at 24fps. Also, for no overheating issues if you do not want to open the screen, use external batteries, so connect the camera to an external battery or powerbank.

Hi J. Do you ever feel/hear the sensor moving around inside the A7IV? I just got mine (finally!) and realized when powered off, and no lens attached, when I tilt it to the left 90° I hear the sensor hitting the side of the camera. Doesn't happen when turned on. It's my understanding this is normal IBIS behavior. The feeling of movement didn't concern me as much as the audible sound that the sensor is constantly hitting the body when gently tilting. Anyway. Was just curious if this is normal for other A7IV users.

Just got the A7IV and thought it was interesting to hear that 4K60 overheats in 20 minutes with the screen in. I know people were saying it will eventually overheat but haven't heard it was happening in that short of time. Where you able to do any testing on it? I had gotten rid of my Canon R6 which was an overheating beast but 4K60 with little crop still went to about 24 minutes before overheating. If you put it in crop mode you could get to the record limit of around 30 minutes.
For the ease of seeing if you are recording there is an option to have a red frame go around the whole lcd screen. Will be easy to spot if your recording or not. Of course you need to be able to see the screen.

Wow, how times have changed, 12MP not good for client work? The early Nikon D1 series had between 2.6 to 3.9MP, with a crop sensor and were the flagship cameras used by professionals in multiple industries. Some of those ended up on billboards across the world, I’m quite sure 12 MP will still work today for client work.

Everything's changed now from the cameras to the super sharp plastic looking lenses ( lost all that organic look people try to reproduce in post now ).. well we go with the flow now

You had to get it right for development as there was not much you could do after the shot was taken. Not like today how you depend on the sensor to store the info and software to allow you to tweak to a look that in some case are not natural but pleasing to look at. When shooting in full electronic shutter...I LOVE how Sony removed the "fake" shutter sound. They gave the A1 the option to use the fake sound or turn it off. With the 7-IV, Sony removed that option and I think that is great. Sometimes it's better to force "less" choices on camera buyers. Whether you agree with Sony or not...complete and total silence is an awesome thing and is a now MUST for every 7-IV buyer.

Hello from Kyiv Ukraine. Nice positive review. I have already decided to buy this camera in the new year. I noticed many people complaining on UA-cam about the crop in 4K60 and how Sony has let people down and that this is a deal breaker. Really??? If these people were truely photographers or videographers then they would know that this is not a problem at all and do the 1.5 math and just change your lens to compensate for the crop. We generally use 4K60 for B roll so I do not see what the problem is. The grips never bothered me as I have a battery grip for each of my Sony cameras. I have the A7RIII A7III and A9II so I have already used the larger body for a while with the A9II. I will be buying the A7IV to replace my A9II and not the A7III.

Sony should have a Firmware Upgrade Program where you can purchase the option of full frame 60 for an upgrade price and an upgrade price to get rid of the rolling shutter. Yes, there would be an entry fee, but it would absolutely blow the competition out of the water and if you don't want those added features, just don't get the upgrades. Nice video!!!!Buddy, everything on point. I already have mine and is a beast so, I'm very happy with it. The drawbacks are not that bad, the rolling shutter unless you pan like a madman is fine. I'm coming from the APSC world and my A6300 is another beast for video and pics, the rolling shutter is awful but I've done even client work without noticing any rolling shutter when you edit. The 4K60 crop is a bummer but for people like me that have APSC lenses we can shoot for example with the Sigma 16mm in super 35mm and the crop won't be there. Therefore is just adapting to what this camera can gives us. I could understand not many people are in mine position and they may not have the APSC lenses but is just work your workflow around that feature. Anyway, those are my thoughts.Salutes from London n' keep up the good work!!!

I'm really glad I didn't settle for this camera and got the R6 for my first full frame, I literally only shoot photos and some video if I think its worth it. But the down sides about the photo portion on this camera were too significant such as the slower FPS when shooting uncompressed raw 5 fps really? Whilst the R6 can get 12 fps uncompressed raw granted it's a smaller resolution but come on its almost 2022 and can't get better results with a 33MP sensor and some new tech? It's probably really great for portraits and landscapes but for a do all, it's not a do all for me the R6 comes back around as the do all to me.
