Low light AF is extremely relevant for me as a wedding photographer. I was hoping to see if Sony could match Canon. Specially selecting Aperture Drive AF priority. Did you notice any difference?
No, I haven't really noticed that. I took various portraits of my wife plus lots of pictures of my toddler, and I didn't find a relevant problem with it. Sure, it's not 100% accurate all the time, you can get shots where it missed the eye sligthly, but that was expected, especially with a young child that never stops moving and/or when shooting with a large aperture. Still, I find the keeperate overall to be better than the A7 III.
What do you think for Milky Way Photography? Which one would be better? besides the articulated screen of the A7IV would be a good thing to have when you shoot a vertical picture of the Milky Way.

It's certainly not a "no-brainer" upgrade from the A7III, and I did have to have a good think before I pulled the trigger. The improved autofocus and ergonomics are what swung it though. Rolling shutter/ banding are what nearly stopped me, there's a lot that's just the same as the A7III
I think they are similar in terms of AF precision and speed. If I remember correctly, you don’t need to choose between animals and birds on the R5, and the Canon is less picky about specific species of birds.
Hello Mathieu, thank you for what I think is the best review of the A7IV I've seen. All the major aspects of the camera compared to the older A7III were covered in an indepth way and delivered perfectly.
It's not supported yet. I'm sure the update will arrive soon. Unfortunately sometimes Apple is slow with this. However, third party softwares should support the A7 IV RAW files, like Lightroom for example.
Another great detailed review, a question for you? as I shoot in a similar situation to you Kites and other Raptors weekly, would you use an A9 or this A74 if you had to pick with 200-600. A9 not having bird eye Af vs A74 with it..
The A9 has a faster AF system. It also has live view with no blackouts when shooting at 10/20fps (which I missed on the A7 IV to be honest). The A7 IV has Eye AF which can be very helpful, depending on the situation (but not really when birds are flying).

@@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons exactly , its only happen when shutter is press slowly (not all the time , just sometimes) , somehow the shutter is trigger 2 time when its going down , you can find some similar issue on Dpreview site but their problem is on a7iii and a7Riii and a7Riv , just google : Sony a7 double shot issue but in end of their topics there is not any answer at all I send ticket to Sony , after 4 day they are not answer back :(
Ok, I found those DPreview threads you were talking about. I guess it's the shutter button that is a bit too sensitive, or there is some kind of glitch with the software too. I hope they'll answer you soon!
Thanks for the great review. I'm currently rocking the A7RIII and considering the A7IV for the improved Af performance. Would I be missing the great detail coming out of the R version? What are your finding in regard to the image quality? Looking at the moire test it seems like the detail is quite different from one to the other
I think the A7R III still has the edge when it comes to sharpness and rendering the finest of details, but I don't think the difference is that big. I guess it depends where your priority is. You may sacrifice a little with resolution, but there are a lot of other benefits, and the A7 IV does quite well with dynamic range and high ISO.

The A7iii is still better than the A7iv. There's no real way to justify the price of the A7iv. The A7iii can be bought for 1600. Saving almost 1,000 is a big deal. Think about the lens you could get, strobes, camera cage, led lights, softboxes, triggers, batteries, ND filters, monitor, tripod, and light stands -- these are the things that matter for great photos and film work. The A7IV is perfect for a wedding photographer because of the performance is ideal for the spray and pray images. For everyone else, save your money and get a great used lens. One of the main reasons that made the A7iii so great is the lens selection. Tamron and Sigma saved Sony, and even Samyang are doing their thing. If you can't afford the A1, stay cheap and hone your craft with lighting. Best way to think about it is the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 was so great Apple had to reduce its performance so they could sell the iPhone7 and 8 - that's the A7iii.

Not really. I did a low light AF test but the results were pretty much the same.

If you use Apple MacBook. iPad and shoot photo in RAW, don’t buy A7IV, it’s not supported.

Hi, I never had this problem with my A7 IV, sorry. It definitely sounds like an odd behaviour. If you press the shutter quickly it doesn't happen?

Can you do a timelapse on both the Sony A74 and Sony A73
They both have the Interval Shooting function, but you'll have to create the video in post.
Did Sony eliminate NFC from the A7IV?
They did, it’s only Wifi and bluetooth now.
They also eliminated the IR receiver so you can’t use the old remote.
