Ti is close to speculative reason en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speculative_reason whereas Te is closer to practical reason
"Speculative reason, sometimes called theoretical reason or pure reason, is theoretical (or logical, deductive) thought, as opposed to practical (active, willing) thought. The distinction between the two goes at least as far back as the ancient Greek philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle, who distinguished between theory (theoria, or a wide, bird's eye view of a topic, or clear vision of its structure) and practice (praxis), as well as techne.
Speculative reason (Ti) is contemplative, detached, and certain, whereas practical reason (Te) is engaged, involved, active, and dependent upon the specifics of the situation. Speculative reason provides the universal, necessary principles of logic, such as the principle of non-contradiction, which must apply everywhere, regardless of the specifics of the situation.[citation needed]
On the other hand, practical reason is the use of reason to decide how to act. It contrasts with theoretical reason or speculative reason.
I've done every single one of these things. The worst is when you're in a group with shared values and then one of them says something that's either wrong or just flat out stupid. If you correct them they'll think you're not on their side so it leads to you keeping your mouth shut. I hate those situations. Just because you were wrong doesn't mean I hate you
If someone insists on being wrong and gets emotional and defensive over it, it's hard for me to not hate them.
If someone doesn't show any emotions, I feel a strong urge to provoke them to discover what's behind the poker face. :)
Not always to make a connection, sometimes it's because I want find out who they really are. - ESTP
I appreciate that - intj
It's difficult to find what a person is really like in the short term and especially through short term manipulation. Provocation does reach the emotions, but most people are better defined by their cumulative thoughts. If emotions are more likely causal reactions and have a greater tendency to be "knee jerk" than a person's thoughts, then I would say that "as a man thinks, so is he".
@@charlespackwood the person which came to my mind when writing it was an ESTJ VP who never gave me direct feed-back.
@@baaf777 why would an estj not give you feedback? I would think that an estj would be an open book. Anyway, resorting to emotional manipulation to get a response seems desperate, inefficient & to invasive.
I'm as dead inside as I appear to be on the outside. -INTP
"If this (X), then that (Y)". Ti is mapping consistency, irrespective of how you feel about X and Y. Ti in a nutshell.
3:50 - 4:10 is important to understand about Ti. Very few things bring out a more genuine contempt and offended reaction from me as an INTP as when someone talks about "my truth." The idea of truth being subjective is something akin to blasphemy. There is only truth, and its only subjective element is how individuals encounter and perceive it.
But even as an INTP your truth will always be subjective. Your interpretation of reality will be different to another INTPs interpretation of reality.
@@zebesiv No.
@@zebesiv exactly and that’s a major lesson INTPs gotta learn to evolve and grow. That doesn’t mean you still can’t stand strongly in your thoughts, but you gotta recognize and the end of they day they’re just YOURS and it’s actually really liberating and makes life easier. That person your responding to is either an un-evolved INTP or likely a Te user that’s mistyped.
- An actual INTP that made it to the other side
@@zebesivWell that's where your extroverted functions come in. You have to have enough input to give your logic a good starting point and correct for your own subjectivity.
However reality doesn't care for our subjective truths. If you jump from the fifth floor you will die no matter if your truth is that you can fly. We do our self's an enormous disservice if we dilute everything to subjective preferences. It undermines both science and a good and honest discussion about society and mortality. The later examples are of course softer than science but not entirely subjective either.
@@unnecessaryapostrophe4047 Objectively, yes..
I definitely agree with the truth element, but I would say Ti is also about looking for logical consistency in things.
Nonsense, I am the ultimate truth seeker. And yes, logical consistency, for me, is indeed important to have a clean and organized thinking.
edit: okay so he edited his comment because he agrees with me now
Not having your thinking contaminated with emotion. Wishfull thinking etc. Desired outcomes.
Inconsistencies need an explanation.
And I thought it's about Understanding.
@@SunlightMoonlight10 would you say skepticism is something you find yourself doing?
I do think Ti is looking for logical consistency. The reason I keep saying it’s trying to find the truth is because I find that Ti tries to break things down in order to find the irreducible principle - the core principle. So in a sense, it is trying to reach at something true about the thing they are analyzing.
These short form videos are very usefull. Way easier to consume and to distinguish what is the best content for me to watch
I said it before and I'll say it again: you two make a great team. I always come away from your videos with new insights. Keep up the good work.
Ti approves of the video :D
Removing the feeling from the thought process is why I disagree with OPS about Ti being identity driven. There is no identity to Ti.
What I wouldn't give to be able to live without analyzing the accuracy of a belief I hold internally lol. I can lie to myself for a short period but the cognitive dissonance that exists within eventually pushes me up to at least begin to process the lie. There's obviously good reason for that and benefits associated with it but I've noticed I have a hard time with holding radical beliefs because I know there are things I need to work to synthesize and iron out the kinks in my thinking. This also makes it hard to vacation. Went on a 7 day cruise with my family awhile back and I brought 2 books with me because I can't just lay down and relax like they do. I'm envious of that carefree trait.
@UCw4vWncuyGYWJWLvnu3a1vA Looks like I disagree with more than just OPS on that one. Thanks for the link! I'll check it out. I do think there is a subjective element to Ti but I don't think that implies that it's tied to our identity (or what I believe the term represents internally). It's a process of understanding and defining. Whether my identity (or idea of what I believe myself to be or think) agrees with the conclusion or not, I'll ultimately side with what makes sense to me. I'm open to changing my mind, though. Perhaps OPS didn't do the best job of explaining it at the time. In their defense, I was new to their system and didn't do as much digging into drawing that conclusion since I left their community shortly after joining.
OPS is a horrible personality typing system anyway...another cash grab
Yeah, OPS sucks! They mistyped a lot of people in their typing system. Just another bullshit cash grab
@@SunlightMoonlight10 Precisely why I enjoy giving my sh*t away for free XD
@@markcelemen Dave and Shan typed me Se/Te PB/S(C) which I did enjoy the animal typing as I am very much playful in my day to day and is how I primarily put energy towards the object (jungian meaning of the term) so there is something to their animal dichotomy and it is fun as a separate metric to track within people but yeah their typing I didn't find too fruitful.
This describes me perfectly! I'm litterlaly always thinking about these things and other people see it (not completely self typed)
The truth is out there.
I feel so seen: 3:58 . Though I have been struggling a bit with being less willing to compromise myself/Ti for Fe, which feels right, but also I fear is immature.
I would have said No 1 sign is you don't refer to anyone else for what you think 🤷🏾♀️ everyone else could be on one side of a statement and you simply don't care...better way to put it caring doesn't factor at all and you're comfortable in being alone in this if necessary.
No 2 the statement "My Truth" drives you crazy 🤣
😂
"My truth" is what every single INTP uses to see the world lmao
Intellectual honesty
Fact check
If some person or persons were trying to alter our culture into that of, say, George Orwell's 1984, would they feel the need to, eh, "cancel" all those with TP personality type?
Kinda feels that way some days, doesn't it?
Little typo in the thumbnail "an TP"
i want this music
Not misinformation, bad logic, and systemic intellectual. ET in shadow has an affection for the counter factual, especially if it isn’t scientifically damaging.
Can you credit your co-host in these videos?
She doesn't have any links! Her name is Diane and she is a classmate of mine at Personality Hacker.
Had an ah-ha here. I've been considering honesty and fairness as T-ness, basically the same as truth. Oops!
I got 1.5/5 (#2 and somewhat #5) in this video and 1/5 (somewhat #2 and somewhat #5) in the signs you’re an FP video. Am I mistyped? I got 0/5 in the signs I’m not a TJ video, which means none of the signs tell that I’m not a TJ. I guess I need more introspection…
What is her type?
ENFJ
@@JoyceMeng22 Interesting. I thought she gave off a clear Te vibe. But I'm probably wrong.
She gives a more serious presentation when she’s recorded so that might be why!
This article gives clarity on why some ENFJs look like Te doms: www.bestfittype.com/16Types/ENFJ-ESTJ-ESTP-ENTJ.cfm
@@filipposa212 She seems ENFJ to me. If you look at how she emotes, it seems to me she only emotes (facial expressions) to enhance what she is saying (Fe) as a tool of communication. They are not expessions based on her authentic feeling (Fi). At the very start of the video she does not smile because she has to laugh to is happy, but uses it as a presentation tool (Fe), like to set a positive mood.
However, when she explains things, she goes into Ti mode, which makes her lack expession. High Ti types regularly lack expression bacause of this.
(However, it's just how I see it)
@@filipposa212 Interesting! My ENFJ boss kind of had that same Te vibe. Maybe that’s just their pumped up for work vibe? (Thinking out loud)
But but but .... does “truth” actually exist?
"truth" must exist
Yes. Truth is singular.
Truth is so deep that the way it looks in the material world is different fur each person. Same truth, different look. The intp looks beyond the material look of truth, and looks beyond the factors often associated with truth (which i think feelers get stuck on). We look to the pure truth.
@@greenlimabean this, I get. Thanks!
How are we defining truth here?
Ti doms annoy me because they are super intelligent but they end up living off their neighbors wifi or marrying some caretaker wife while working on their personal project.
That sounds mightily specific
@@LilacSnowBun I am Te dominant so according to type theory it's probably my oppositional function aka it pisses me the f off
lmaooo
@@filipposa212 Hmmmm .... I thought our 5th function is something we can kinda access but just don’t prefer? I guess it depends on the theory. Anyhow, good luck with those freeloading Ti doms :D
So anyone got good wifi?
