From your perspective, you might just be talking out of your arse, but you may have actually said something really helpful or intelligent, regardless, like, by accident. :P I do that sometimes to, apparently, all i'm doing is explaining my perspective and hypotheticals and theories, and, somehow, that just magically helps someone around me reach an epiphany or some sht like that, and they praise me for it... And my reaction is just internal confusion, because all i'm doing it stating the obvious and/or explaining my perspective... But i just run with it, if it works, it works, right? xD

Yes, that’s absolutely true. However, when I’m dealing with somebody who is a perpetual victim or someone who likes to wallow in self-pity it is extremely difficult. I’ll coddle your feelings the first two conversations but after that, I’m not spending a bunch of time talking and talking and talking about the same shit with no solutions. So I guess that’s just the insensitive side of me but that’s just a boundary, I refuse to let go of.
But when i try hug him/her. People will insult with gay of it with man or sexual harassment if it with women. Wait, i think i am the one who need hug right now 😢
One weakness I noticed in myself is the tendency to think I understand something when I've only understood the general idea and learning the details look like a chore so I lose interest. Then I realize later that there was actually a lot of new insights from learning the details. E.g. Feeling like I know what it'd be like to register a business so I lose sight of the fact that actually experiencing that outside my imagination would probably give me some new insights from the process and the details in that process that I hadn't thought of when I just imagined it.
Some mistakenly see it as procrastination but the INTP decision making process works like this:1) identify the challenge, task or action that requires decision making. 2) investigate and research all aspects thereof . 3) identify all possible options available. 4) identify pros and cons of each option. 5) Rank each pro and con in order of importance, personal preference, possible outcomes, advantages and disadvantages. 6) allow a reasonable period of time to reconsider step 5, and repeat this step. 7) choose the best possible option. 8) Reconsider all aspects mentioned previously. 9) allow a cooling off period just in case you have overlooked something. 10) Do some more research. 11) Repeat steps 1 to 8, while taking into consideration all additional information obtained. 11) make a decision, if you believe you are ready for it, but preferably not the same day. This process could potentially take hours, days, weeks, months, years or decades, but the INTP will eventually make a decision. THEN put it into action, unless you can find someone to do it for you.
That is exactly what i do. With work, with fun, relationships, etc. Everything for me is a matter of risk/reward but when i've come to a final decision it's balls to the walls until it's either complete or new information has rendered whatever it was a less than fruitful endeavor.
Or to summarise ask yourself the questions... wait until your brain, subconsciously, processes all the data while you go about doing everyday things then spits out the answer when you least expect it.

It probably hurts to hear from someone smarter than you that your way of life is wrong, and they cant just disregard it as something other than truth. Typically, people who want to have their mind changed will change their mind, and vice versa. Convince people who want to know why they're wrong, not those who want to know why they're right.

As a fellow INTP I'd like to say just keep being an authentic INTP. There are many people out there who feel grateful to hear your logical & impersonal insights. Accept the fact that not everyone will understand you, because everyone is different. There are still many others who will understand you and be thankful for your intelligence.
This is true enough, but INTPs still need a filter, or an editor. The genius comes out when a rare or powerful observation is repackaged as an accessible nugget of wisdom. INTPs can also write good hooks / introductions. Somewhere at the intersection of propaganda and instructional design, there are principles that could guide how we chose to package the truth.
I might as well crack a little and say I had teared up multiple times during the video. And apparently that usually means I'm onto figuring something about myself.
I just realized that I've returned to feeling apathetic, detached, and living passively this past month... These rules are easier said than done imo... no matter how many times you fight against these terrible habits, it just returns.
My suggestion would be to try and analyze whether or not you’re being patient with yourself. You have the rest of your lifetime to keep working on these things, don’t give up with a sample size of a month, or hell, even 2 years. You have time. You are imperfect. Frankly, that second one is not changing. But you can change aspects of yourself, because you’re you. It’s just going to take consistency and effort. And to do that you need to be patient.
This is what learning is all about. I don't know about anyone else here but I, Especially lately, am starting to realize that learning becomes stronger because you have forgotten something, but returned back to it in some way. Why? Think about it this way: let's say you're trying to learn something, let's say you search it online. The next day you forget it, and somehow, somewhere, you are reminded of it again. once you are reminded of it, it hits harder. `I can't believe I forgot this thing," you say to yourself. Emotions and memory seemed to be very interlinked to a certain extent. Anyway, so you remember this thing, and strive not to forget it again. This may happen several times, but eventually you'll reach a point when you'll never forget this thing. At least that's how it works for me, but maybe it's just a me thing. Who knows?

The concrete (factual, physical, strictly in-the-moment) information that is perceived being internally organized and taxonomized based upon what is considered important or significance. So if your Si can be activated to specifically target that stuff, it’s probably because the 3rd or 4th time was more important to you.
That's why you develope new habits to circumvent those old habits. For instance, i always forget my wallet and my keys when going out, and no matter how i try to fight those habits, i can't shake them, so i made new habits, as it happens, i never forget my jacket, so i keep my wallet and keys IN the jacket, even at home, that way, i never forget them, and i always know where they are. :P
I kept being told "You have empathy" which never sat right with me in the way most people think of empathy (thats is feeling someone elses emotions) But I have come to realise that what people see as empathy is actually me just doing a very quick analysis of a persons situation, their expressions, actions and behaviour and deducing what they are logically likely to be "feeling" because I have observed what most people simply do not.
My wife of over 20 years is an INTP. I adore her intellect and contribution to our understanding of the world. I am an INFJ. The conversations we have thinking through anything and everything especially if it is taboo is delightful. 😉

I'm an INFJ male with INTP female partner of over 5 years. Best conversation definitely, I appreciate her intellect and thoughts daily. She's an Aspie and didn't know it until she was around 50 years of age. Don't think I could ever be with anyone else she's truly like a best friend you can always talk to about anything.

I handle the world of people and my bird handles the world of things and together we navigate reality successfully. lol If the hot water heater goes out, my bird the INTP fixes it. Here are my almost 12 rules. -Expecting others to be rational is by itself an irrationnal expectation. So stay rational and allow them to be what they are. -Keep practicing on social things Your natural tendancy as an INTP is to be alone, self sufficient and associal, the only work around is to push yourself practicing, going out, meeting new people, going to new places. It s painful but worthy. -Throwing superior rationality and logic at someone else's face is seen as arrogance. People don t need to be saved. The only thing they want is to feel another human warmth and be understood. They don't want any INTP to solve their problems throwing at their faces solutions to their life struggles. As sad as it is, some will hate you if you do that. People like their problems, let them have them. Don't forget that the way things are said, is more important than the things themselves. Being too direct is counterproductive. -Pay attention to how you look. Take care of yourself. Dealing with social awkwardness starts with looking normal. Guys, this is so easy to be good looking, please don't disqualify yourself at this stage. Give yourself the chance to screw up at a later stage of a social interraction. It's too dumb not to do something that easy. Take care of your clothes, of your skin, of your hairs, of your teeth and be handsome. -Patterns, Reccurence, and system building Going to the essence of something concrete to generate abstract rules and patterns of understanding that apply to an infinite amount of other concrete cases is a superpower. No one understand what that universe and human nature are made of better than you do. A fucking superpower. -Forget about meanings Everything is absurd, nothing make sense, accept it. Otherwise, you are digging down an endless rabbithole where your Ti/Ne combination will backfire at your face. Store datas, organise them, sort them, modify them, analyse them. But don't try to find any meaning in them. Your analyse must stop once you answered the True or False question. -INTP are computers. Sounds cool but it sux. Your brain is basically building templates for every social situation it cans imagine. Unfortunately, reality is never 100% similar as the template you prepared. Learn to be in the moment, learn to shut the computer down, i disagree with the vid, overanalysing is unhealthy when it comes to anything social. -Dating Impossible to make any difference when someone is trying to flirt with you or just being nice right ? Stick to the facts. The fucking facts, only them matter. Dating, flirting etc is also another area where overanalyzing and overthinking will only lead you to mistakes and misunderstoods. Forget the words and stick to the facts. If you want to know where you stand for someone, just look at their actions, they speak louder than words. -Try to sleep.

If he asks you questions, try to know you, to understand you, or even bigger, let you know him/her, consider it as a HUGE sign of consideration. It;s confusing for me as an INTP sometimes, when i see an Extravert telling me everything about him/her, i easily assume this person really like me but that s not the case, for some types telling everything about them is just normal. @@youludufutur1374 Yes, all of that I know because I dated an INTP last year and I figured it out when he wanted to understand me and basically love bombed me in the beginning. Then came the whiplash for me anyway but it's a complicated story which I'm not going to bore anyone with (anymore). Hmm, as an ISFP I am somewhere in between being very private and wanting to share my life story right away because I want desperately to be understood, so I can relate a bit to your feelings of confusion. It's weird if it happens right off the bat, let's say on a first or second date that you know the whole history of somebody's trauma because I DON'T KNOW YOU, and so what am I suppose to do with that information lol. But I love it when other people confide to me. Sadly it doesn't happen very often, so I just feel lucky whenever someone does tell something private about themselves. Also it always gets a bit complicated and intense when you meet a person online, because things turn quite deep rather fast. Idk yet whether that's a bad or a good thing.
@@purplemind93 Looks like someone is not really over her ex yet if i can allow myself a cold read. Trust me, as private as an INTP could be, we want to be understood too. Even those who do the less effort in that direction, somewhere in their mind, they want it. But growing up, you tend to give up on that expectation that is, matter of fact, unrealistic. If you understand yourself enough, you don't need the others doing it that much anymore.
Well I do understand that especially INTPs want someone who can understand them, since you are quite the special bunch. I asked him once Do you ever feel like you know somebody but then at the same time doesn't know them at all? He answered me Yeah, but can we actually really understand another human being? He took some of my anxieties and turned them into dust and I'm thankful for that. I'm not the kind of person to move on quickly, because I rarely find someone I want to be with in the first place. But he’s far too adept at creating and contributing to the mbti framework seemingly out of thin air. That’s pretty much an INTP thing. And when in doubt there is the personality database site. Masses agree he is intp. And personality type is one of those things where the mass vote gravitates towards true mean it seems.
@@kageyama-kun1744 It’s not my idea, the dichotomy system is mother/daugher pair Briggs/Myers trait identification system that maps to one’s Jungian dominant and auxiliary functions. It’s like, sure to determine if one is a man or woman we can check the number of Y chromosomes they have, but we could also just observe if they have the trait of a penis now couldn’t we. He is clearly Ti dominant. That immediately makes him IxTx. It’s clear his aux is not Se, thus he must be INTP. You could reason it that way too. It’s all the same thing under the MBTI framework. Now if you’re classical Jungianist, then technically you could say well he could be Ti dom and Ni aux, as Jung did not impose an I/E counterbalance of the dom/aux functions under his original framework - but I highly doubt you have thought that deeply. Anyways, you can take mbti or leave it, but under its framework, the reasoning I put forth is logically sound. If you think the mbti framework is crap, then don’t watch his videos lol.
As an ENTJ, those nuggets of information are so incredibly useful. It’s like another realm of possibility opens. Like another world. Then I get to show INTPs in reality what they opened up inside me. It’s an incredibly rewarding relationship. The result is that I am able to show others the pragmatism in doing things different but better. I could never get there as quickly without the INTPs help. INTPs save us from months and years of agony.

I don't wanna hinder their SE TE loop, they literally designed like that for a reason, and I value it for them, especially since they don't procrastinate like I do👌🏾😂, it's just I wanna give them food for thought as to how they can _maybe_ direct for themselves all of this tactile progress and action and with my Ti explanatory nature, it can blow over their heads with their Fi bias and Ti polar. They are my friends tho, and I wanna at least give them a couple of ideas that can be both genuine to them as helpful for their future, either it's wisdom on just doing things, or how the world progresses or sumn else that u think could help them in a "12 rules/advice/suggestions for life, ESFP" Thanks 👌🏾👑🤙🏾
I love how everything hits so deeply. I was shaking my head "no" and groaning at things you knew would trigger an INTP, long before you acknowledged that they would, and the advice is very timely (tbh it's always timely but I've had the exact same problems for years now and I can't seem to get out of the rut, I'm trying now though and I want to believe in myself that I can and will do this).

I've been watching your videos for a while, and have to say: Yes, most things people say in the psychology community will be relatable in some way shape or form (hence mistyping and equivocal self-diagnosis, not to mention things like astrology). However, I've found your sayings to be absolutely surgically precise virtually all of the time, when it comes to the deep essence of the INTP. I'm a 16 year old from Brazil, and after intense analysis, came to consider myself a logician. We were raised in extremely contrasting cultures, and are not in the same stage in life, as our age gap indicates. Despite all of that, there's not a time when I listened to what you had to say and got the feeling of "that seems off". Still, every time I relate, it feels almost uncanny. All of that to say that I think you're doing an amazing job... But I guess, if we're actually so akin, you definitely already knew that, hahah. I'm certain a lot more INTPs, and heck, probably even people of other types deeply appreciate your content as I do. Thank you Nathan.
I'm also a 16 year old living in an Se dominant country. I stopped watching this video at 12:28 the 10th rule hit me even though all of them did. The memories of the 2 years I wasted staying in my room constantly failing to do something resurfaced once more, and I hate how I've become brainclogged to the point where I lost all of my treasured strengths. Anyways good luck on whatever you do, off topic but I found listening to September by Earth, Wind, and Fire helped me boost my mood when forcing myself to be productive.

@@nicolascalegario8835 Same. On an imaginary scale I guess 1 out of 5 people here are Fe dominants. The social dynamics here is straight up Se-Fi with an obnoxious blindspot Ti that literally blinds everyone with disinformation and propaganda. There's one good thing I like here tho, it's the eagerness to fully experience the sensory world (Treasured Se) but there are some times where I just hope they leave introverts alone while leaving no Ni remarks about their behavior.
Typically, "relatable descriptors of your personality" such as horoscopes tend to only/mostly focus on positive aspects, making it easier for you to believe. When the negatives are on full display and you still undeniably associate those traits with yourself, its very likely realistic and not just a sham, which is what i like about this channel
I love INTPs, one of my cousins is a definite INTP, and I've learned so much from him. He even got me into the "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings" movies, and he has interesting theories on almost every aspect of the franchises.
Number 9 hit me hard. I think I need new friends 😭. I just keep my thoughts to myself more and more these days because no one around me values my life observations.
Inactivity is my biggest struggle. So often I push myself super hard for a few months or weeks that I get overwhelmed by the enormity of my goals and withdraw into a more simple life. It made college much harder than it needed to be for someone of my capabilities. In my first two years, I'd have perfect grades for like half the semester, get frustrated with my classes and stop trying, and barely pass by the end. Though some self reflection and research into my personality, I was able to come up with various strategies to alleviate pressure on myself and allow me to enjoy my classes instead of resenting them. The main thing that helped was not to force myself to do things for the sake of a grade, but let my curiosity pull me along to discover interesting things about what I was learning.
I have been an ardent (turbulent) INTP throughout life, however thr empirical experience have i fathomed, sincerely, certain things are beyond scrutiny. Concepts like affection - maternal, agape, conjugal are many a time unfathomable. Metaphysics is after all a science yet unknown. Many energies at play are yet unknown... Besides, even if everything were decipherable, many a time, living it, feeling, is the best (even the most utilitarian) course of action... Experiences of the ethereal world are just as or more objectively and scalably important than any calculus...
As a fellow INTP, I've recently purely been focusing on developing execution and not just storing my ideas in my head. I've garnered 176K views in the past month from just executing my ideas. Not just thinking. But working them out! And surprise surprise, it works! So as a fellow INTP to another INTP, we are only as strong as our weakest function. So develop that shit!
I am a little mad at how accurate this is. I'm a biomedical engineering PhD student and I had a bit of a falling out with my lab mates a few weeks ago so I have completely withdrawn, ignoring them whenever possible, never offering any insight or advice. They just really betrayed my trust and hurt me so I don't want to open myself back up to those assholes.
Hi, i am exactly the same. Betray me and that person is basically dead to me. My advice is, just be courteous and do not get into arguments/pissing contests with any of them(also, do not ever trust people who sabotaged you or sabotaged your work) Do you actually need "lab mates" at all ? or this is some type of group project ? Concentrate on your studies and stay away from chitchat/idle talk/gossip. (keep your eyes on the prize: PhD )
This is who I am. I'm due for an assessment for ADHD. My mother thinks I'm autistic, I get told I am monotone and stick to the negative way too much. I'm glad I found out I am an INTP and found others who think like me. It's okay to be who I am and it's okay that I stick to the truth, it's not my fault that life is mostly negative. I am in no way delusional.
Me too- though I figured out after my first child was diagnosed that I'm autistic with ADHD. I love my unique brain, and the only downside of diagnosis was that it didn't happen until I was approaching 40. Diagnosis makes a great difference when it comes to understanding yourself, so if you have the opportunity to, go for it 😀
9) "Always share your thoughts" I wish I could agree, but I can't. You should share your thoughts, but not always. Sometimes, it's better to keep your mouth shut, or say something that you don't really think/believe. Some people will not only not appreciate any input, instead they will twist it around and use it against you, just out of spite or to achieve their malignant goals. What is useful is the ability to identify such ppl, and indeed, the proficiency in sharing your thoughts the right way can help fish them out.
I agree it serves to be judicious and careful, but I can never claim something I don't believe. Doing that feels like perversely twisting reality out of cowardice. I'd rather be silent.
I think apathy is better than bitterness. If I find somebody is bad for me, I just walk away. Or maybe make them walk away. I am not wasting my energy hoarding anger or resentment. I call that Apathy, and I do embrace that, once I make my decision. Of course if conditions warrant, I might change my mind.

Well, as if you were describing me now I work in a supermarket I suffer from the same problem, I always feel that time is short, so I do not change my routine in food, but tell me, how did you work in the supermarket, was it not difficult?
@@Wizard-uk8ds Warehousing part was difficult. I can't put a pallet back together. But customer service and upselling was easier because I already worked out most trends and FAQ's. Physically, I do tire out, so after lockdown when I lost my job, when many others quit, I just work casually to avoid warehousing work.

Here are my notes on this video, this is like advice I would give to my younger self. (i'd rephrase some things, ~~xyz~~ = strikethrough, *abc* = replace) - 1. Accept your emotions, never embrace apathy - understand them, see Nr. 2 - 2. Nothing is above analysis - though many things are fine being left unanalyzed - pick your battles, analyze when it makes sense, learn to control the ability to analyze - 3. Fight against *(maybe rather "investigate" OR *analyze*?)* Passivity - obviously relevant given my recent phase - I couldn't have fought my way out of my recent passivity, I don't feel like it would have been healthy to just force myself to do things regardless of how I felt - I needed to go investigate, to take myself to the side and figure out what's wrong - (see notes on feeds below) - struggle with the core of the issue - somehow find a good next step to take (e.g. deciding to rather go work with Tobias some more, rather then continuing to sit at home) - 4. ~~Remember the Power of~~ *Embrace* Play - when I saw that vision of remaining playful, never being done learning, always keeping that silliness, playfulness, curiosity I felt like that's how I'd want to be when I was older - For a long time, I've wanted to be a cool grandpa, do a lot of crazy stuff with grandchildren - "whenever life is beating [the joy of play] out of you, it's probably a sign that something needs to change" - very good advice, takes courage to act on - 5. ~~Avoid Mental Ruts and Loops~~ *when you're stuck, (allow yourself to) do something different for a while* - e.g. *think* but also *do* something different, like going outside, meeting with someone else, something physical - let the problem ripen, the crucial insight can't be forced - 6. ~~Weaponize~~ *Optimize* Habits and Routines - the things you do every day are (some of) the most important - make sure those things are aligned with what you actually want, what's healthy for you - 7. Leave the house of invite people to yours - good advice, for me, it's been very good to leave the house every day - I haven't had people over much, mostly because I don't have a place that I think is suited for visitors (it's functional, but probably boring to most), though I can imagine one day having a nice place to also just hang out in - another aspect is, I'm not very drawn to being a host, if I'm gonna be one, my standards would be quite high (make sure my guests enjoy their stay), which is a lot of effort - 8. People are irrational, but they aren't random - this is really important, I feel one of the biggest downfalls for INTPs or people I observe in general, is not being able to empathize with anothers perspective and mode of being - you don't need to understand everything about them and just because you don't understand something about someone else, doesn't make them or what they are experiencing invalid - respect others, you want to be respected too and it's much harder to learn from someone who disrespects you OR who you don't respect - you can learn something from everyone, no matter how little sense you can make of them initially - 9. Always share your thoughts - don't expect people to immediately pick up what you're putting down - with insights or knowledge that seems very important or needed, make sure it survives your bodies death - 10. Be a jack of all trades and a master of one - the jack of all trades thing comes naturally - the master of one part is very pragmatic, you need to be grounded somewhere and be able to *trade* it to sustain your needs - it might feel like a big cost or sacrifice (NE: "But what about all the other possibilities?!?") to narrow down on one thing, but to function in todays society, for better or worse, you need to contribute something concrete - remember that with something as a foundation, you can branch out as far as you like after - also, if you have something you can point to, you don't need to justify all the other obscure things you spend your time on because they're like "Oh, he's a writer." - People seemingly can't stand not being able to place someone in some mental box - 11. Create rules, formulas and principles - it's satisfying to do and share - 12. Whenever possible, have something to show for the work you do - I take this quite literally: - collect written feedback and documentation for every work experience you made, that is really useful to look back on personally, to see ones own development and show to someone else ("What have you been doing with your time?") - otherwise, it's basically Nr. 11, unless you physically build something - in that case, how you built it, the plans, the iterations are valuable too I am thankful for the creator to have made this video, it's been useful for reflecting on my personal development.

I developed apathy since a young age because showing emotions wasn't easy but analysing it was fun, watching others squabble over something trivial that you can logically just say is stupid because you can see the fault in their logic but you see them stubborn and you enjoy how every chip in their defenses evokes an emotional response l, but then you don't care about how they feel when you just simply say, "you're wrong" not because you want to insult them but apathetic truth makes the most sense is something I've thought about for the last 14 years of my life and I'm 24
Yes. The one difference is that when i was younger i added to the fun by mirroring their emotions, facial expressions, etc as a sort of weird experiment. Made it far easier to socialize because then everyone you talk to gets to talk to themselves...for a bit.
5) I definitely do this, especially when deciding the most efficient way to do chores. The outcome? I can't do A until I do B, but I can't do B until I do A (or rather, shouldn't). The solution? Do nothing. Just agonize over it. My most logically illogical moments.
After a several months long battle with what to do with a pile of random useless junk collected over the years i finally settled on a plan: 6am - wake up, coffee. Spend time during coffee re checking my plans....numerous times in case at the last moment i found more efficiency. Have some breakfast. Oatmeal with peanut butter....another cup of coffee....more thinking. 7:30am- rehearse the walking paths through each room. Final analysis on the most efficient way to get the clutter into bags.... 9am- bags have been laid in each room for clutter collection. Sorting begins. Back of the house to front because all bags of clutter can be placed into a singular staging area by a french door and thus much easier egress with said bags of clutter. 11am- sorting complete. Lunch. Salami wrap. Down the hatch. 11:10am- sorted clutter into bags begins 3pm- clutter removed to utility trailer. 8 large trash bags of clutter. 4pm- another coffee. Optimal means of disposal contemplation restarts. 6:30pm- settle on lining bags against a log leftover from a hurricane blowdown. Slightly uphill. Obviously light the most downhill bag for the most efficient even burn. 8pm- dinner. 8:10pm-2am- random youtube documentary on the Bronze age collapse followed with vids on bushcrafting, dark matter, Japanese traditional joinery, ultralight backpacking, how to build a dcf model for investing in Excel, and a lesson on major triads from Guthrie Trapp.
1:55 one of the biggest problems i have that i dont see with many other intps is that im surprisingly nosy about peoples problems and secrets. i try way too hard to share as much as possible with my closer friends online because i have a lot of trouble just speaking at all in real life (for a few different reasons) so i end up expecting that from others by asking too many questions and trying to make sure im not hiding anything and that they arent either. it ends up getting really frustrating when i talk to people and they say how they are afraid of what others might do or say if they share something weird or something like that, or because "its a secret" or "i dont need to tell you that". so in the search of getting a perfect and accurate understanding of this person, i end up unintentionally pushing them too much which makes them not wanna tell me things, and therefore putting that fear into reality.
I am a happy INTP, I totally embrace emotions and intuition as a form of wisdom and internal guidance. A teacher once told my class that the biggest decisions we made are taken with the heart and then I realized it was true: to choose a career that makes you happy (beyond profitable), a partner, to have children or not, to move out, etcetera. The eagerness to be happy and have a meaningful life is our soul speaking. I am a psychologist so I give emotions its place: a powerful resource to guide ourselves♥ Once a person learns that emotions are a tool instead of a burden life changes :) I´ve seen it with my patients ♥
3) is spot on. I was thinking for a long time about getting a tattoo on my forearm of a sloth(animal) hugging christian cross as way of symbolising the sin I am most guilty of and reminding myself to keep moving forward. Haven't done it yet bcs I'm lazy and not very fond of having ink stuck to me.
You should probably draw it and put it somewhere you’ll see everyday, like a poster in your room or something. There’s a lot of power in symbolism for us so I guess it’s a better alternative than a tattoo. Hopefully you’re in a better space now

This is great advice. I have notes about rules like this all over my house; on whiteboards left behind chairs; on various mirrors; on random pieces of paper that are now probably behind my desk or under my couch. Structure is such a necessary and counter-intuitively liberating thing. Without it, just keeping track of things while trying to accomplish something becomes an insurmountable task. As a suggestion to any INTPs wanting to develop these skills, read these books (or audiobook): the confidence gap, and then atomic habits. Combined, you're set on a path to develop structure you can't avoid. Structure that will give you insight that can practically carry you through some hardships - assuming you follow the directions :P which we're not very good at.

Thanks for that. 3: I rather say burnout and lack of internal motivation leads me to Passivity. Not in physical sense. When someone is just there and says: ok, that's a good idea, let's do this, is enough me to do something. But when people just judge me, it is rather easier to not do anything i'm already a bad person, why would i do anything that gives people opportunity to mock and criticise me again?

Apathy can be dangerous for INTPs but luckily with a little Fe injection apathy can easily be turned into patience which is a very useful skill to have. Any progress, even slow progress, becomes extremely powerful over time.
From the rule number 5. I could say that we may be a Ti-Ne in mind, but- our physical behavior is still going on circles until we would have 'that' motivation. Like you know: woke up > thinks > eat > thinks > chores > thinks > phone > thinks > sleep (my everyday life xD)..

I'm struggling with procrastination and somewhat laziness even though I keep reminding myself that having my mind busy with ideas and studies all the time is beneficial and pleasant to me and feels natural. And fun fact: couple of years ago I had a friend-ish who eventually opened up and criticized me for having a "staring problem" (hi Bucky) as if I was studying her and judging her actions and words, and in fact it was weird to me to have it pointed out 'cause that kind of behavior of analyzing and observing everything felt normal to me to the extent that I've never noticed that and no one has ever mentioned that I have this "staring problem" so to speak. My friends often say I’m a very mature INTP which i was always skeptical of because I wasn’t sure how to measure maturity, watching this video did lead to some insight that this may be true because I do or try to do most of what this video suggests. So to my fellow INTPs incorporate these rules into your life it will work.

That is because both intps and intjs can think outside the box. Dont like smalltalk. We both analyse systems or assemble them. We see patterns where other types dont even suspect a pattern exists.

I have a power of play story. I had started my job 9 years ago with a terrible supervisor that didn't want me distracting others from getting their work done by asking how I was supposed to do mine. I felt that I was in danger of getting fired every day. To avoid being stressed out I treated the job like a game. For some people that is irresponsible, but I'm deadly competitive, so I could stay highly focused without the pressure of the results.After a year I was reasonably proficient, after 5 the work climate improved and I'm arguably the best at what I do there.
I agree to everything Nathan is saying sadly. These are definitely most of my weaknesses. Another weakness of mine is also I really don't do much unless I get jealous. What I mean about that is like how I learned that my uncle, who is 2 years older, could play guitar. I had 0% interest of learning it prior but after that day I had so much urge to be better than him. Once I got better than him, I stopped exerting effort. I just had to confirm that I'm better at it. Now I want to find a career that will support my want to be working from home and I think I want to be a programmer, I learned probably just basics of C and left in in pending for 3 months now. Help! Lol. And if it helps, I'm currently a leading a team of virtual assistants.

Funny enough, being self-aware, I'm actually working on all these points you mentioned by analyze my life truthfully with myself. Be truthful to yourself and ask yourself what you want over the next/multiple decades. Find out what you can improve and whether the improvement will make sense and push you forward, be mindful of not doing these action for the sake of fitting but for the sake of you own future. My biggest regret is passivity, I've only start realizing these when I hit 27yo. Life won't come to you, be a little bit more active to try to pursue it, enjoy ever step of the journey regardless of the end result.
I've tested as INTP since I was a kid. Never believed it. Spent 6months a few years ago reading anything I could find on the subject, filled notebooks, trying to prove that I was indeed a different type. I've 98% accepted that I am INTP now that I'm in my 30's.

Wow… exactly what I thought was true but was struggling and confused due to people around and what world values and idealizes…. It puts me at a great mental ease to know that the truth I felt about myself is the truth indeed.
It's hard to embrace my emotions. But I found my way to accept it little by little - with the help of filmmaking and storytelling. Those two things are all about exploring emotions and presentation that we INTP needs. The great thing about those is we can use our tendency to analyze everything in that craft...although I'm still starting and struggling to start making an art about it. The point is...find your arts and craft as a starting point. The next steps are easy as long as we take action. I kind of need help about taking action though.
This video is very accurate on a personal level. Like, I've independently discovered pretty much the exact same things, for example, rule 8. In my own pursuits of truth, I've ironically realized that humanity pursues truth for the purpose of the enrichment of life. In other words, truth is subservient to life, and does not warrant pursuit in its own right. There are quantities of life that outweigh quantities of truth, but not quantities of truth that outweigh quantities of life (after everything is accounted for, that is). One might insist that some truths are worth a sacrifice of life, but ultimately they miss the fact that those sacrifices are only worth it because of more enrichment of life in the end. This rests on truth being a phenomenon of the human experience, and the human experience is the very lens through which we are eternally bound by an utterly robust logical arrangement: the theory of mind, and quantization of the micro-interactions that form consciousness in the mind and separate the universe's chaos into individual human beings.
Stopped the video part way during rule 1 to hit the like button and echo the thing about understanding other people's emotions. I excel at understanding others, because I tend to logic my way through if this happened then a,b,c would be the most likely response. However, ask me what I'm feeling and I either have no idea or in don't have strong emotions either way. This has caused some issues with my f type people.
The going outside is definitely true. Being inside and alone is good at times because it allows for self reflection and you don’t have to be dragged into drama. Although, it does get lonely from time to time so the excuse I make is to go outside to get some sunlight and vitamin d. As well as hang out with close ones.
Whew, number 6 is me. I remember eating Chili every day for like a month because I didn't feel like making anything else. Not to mention I can make a crapload of it so I don't have to spend my time making new food every day. Not to mention, I only have to clean 1 bowl per day. Also, 11 is me. I was definitely the advice giver due to my analytical nature so I usually give a moderately unbiased brain child for them to follow. My closest friend knows that my brain works that way so she understands that if I give advice, she should probably follow it due to the considerable amount of time I've spent thinking about it and mulling different scenarios that might play out given certain actions. People are indeed formulaic yet difficult to predict. As the quote goes "History doesn't repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme."
I’m most certainly an INTJ, but almost everything fits with an INTP too. The detached observer, the logic, the dealing with emotions. I know I’m an INTJ mainly because I love making decisions and narrowing down to something tangible. But my social skills, life, daydreaming, detachment, variety of interests and skills, really match here as well.

For one I really find it fascinating how some people can be so articulate about their thoughts and emotions , my thoughts would be all over the place and I would be so conflicted about what I should say, because my mind work faster than my tongue so i tend to say the conclusions and people would ask me to elaborate more then i feel tired to go over the process so i just avoid these situations or simply doesn’t share anything and this honestly becomes an endless cycle that i want to get out of but I failed to do so every time
I went through that apathetic phase when I started out high school and it went on until the start of the next year. When it came to stuff like grades i had improved but when it came to my connection with people? Not so much. I pushed away girlfriend and alot of 'friends' because I said what I thought without filter. Later on my best friend slowly pulled me out of that phase. My biggest worry was actually if i was the only one, no one else around seemed to have had that type phase so i was worried something was actually wrong with me. Thanks for putting that point in the video, although It has been years that I've figured out that I wasn't going mad, i hope someone else can see this video before they mess up like I did
I used to treat eating as bodily function, on demand and paying no mind. As I got older, I made a conscious decision to be mindful of my meals. I’d stick to a set of dishes that are easy to make and delicious. I’d eat the same dishes for months or years until I switch to new easy and delicious dishes. Doing so I won’t waste grocery, won’t eat junk, and save time on what to eat. I have been “working” from home since last July. I love to live in my PJs and home cocoon so much that I am retiring in July this year. It is great to have every minute doing whatever I want. And finally start tackling all the hobbies I have been wanting to get into (got every tool and material already). Two nights ago I had a dream. In it I pummeled my mother repeatedly because she misplaced a power cord for the handy vacuum. I was livid and lost control. It felt so real. In real life I moved my mother in with me since last year. She’s not the type I can live with in peace therefore many times I screamed and yelled at her. I feel guilty treating my mother impatiently because she is old and slow and can’t hear. I am trying my best to not yell at her although I don’t always succeed.

Yes, that’s absolutely true. However, when I’m dealing with somebody who is a perpetual victim or someone who likes to wallow in self-pity it is extremely difficult. I’ll coddle your feelings the first two conversations but after that, I’m not spending a bunch of time talking and talking and talking about the same shit with no solutions. So I guess that’s just the insensitive side of me but that’s just a boundary, I refuse to let go of.
But when i try hug him/her. People will insult with gay of it with man or sexual harassment if it with women. Wait, i think i am the one who need hug right now 😢

One weakness I noticed in myself is the tendency to think I understand something when I've only understood the general idea and learning the details look like a chore so I lose interest.
Then I realize later that there was actually a lot of new insights from learning the details. E.g. Feeling like I know what it'd be like to register a business so I lose sight of the fact that actually experiencing that outside my imagination would probably give me some new insights from the process and the details in that process that I hadn't thought of when I just imagined it.
that's something I learned later than I should, doing can teach things that you can't see from outside the doing
Some mistakenly see it as procrastination but the INTP decision making process works like this:1) identify the challenge, task or action that requires decision making. 2) investigate and research all aspects thereof . 3) identify all possible options available. 4) identify pros and cons of each option. 5) Rank each pro and con in order of importance, personal preference, possible outcomes, advantages and disadvantages. 6) allow a reasonable period of time to reconsider step 5, and repeat this step. 7) choose the best possible option. 8) Reconsider all aspects mentioned previously. 9) allow a cooling off period just in case you have overlooked something. 10) Do some more research. 11) Repeat steps 1 to 8, while taking into consideration all additional information obtained. 11) make a decision, if you believe you are ready for it, but preferably not the same day.
This process could potentially take hours, days, weeks, months, years or decades, but the INTP will eventually make a decision.
THEN put it into action, unless you can find someone to do it for you.
This is a very good expression of apparent procrastination. My wife is very annoyed by it though.
That is exactly what i do. With work, with fun, relationships, etc. Everything for me is a matter of risk/reward but when i've come to a final decision it's balls to the walls until it's either complete or new information has rendered whatever it was a less than fruitful endeavor.
This reminds me of how I trat online shopping carts
Or to summarise ask yourself the questions... wait until your brain, subconsciously, processes all the data while you go about doing everyday things then spits out the answer when you least expect it.

It probably hurts to hear from someone smarter than you that your way of life is wrong, and they cant just disregard it as something other than truth. Typically, people who want to have their mind changed will change their mind, and vice versa.

As a fellow INTP I'd like to say just keep being an authentic INTP. There are many people out there who feel grateful to hear your logical & impersonal insights.
Accept the fact that not everyone will understand you, because everyone is different. There are still many others who will understand you and be thankful for your intelligence.
This is true enough, but INTPs still need a filter, or an editor. The genius comes out when a rare or powerful observation is repackaged as an accessible nugget of wisdom. INTPs can also write good hooks / introductions. Somewhere at the intersection of propaganda and instructional design, there are principles that could guide how we chose to package the truth.

My suggestion would be to try and analyze whether or not you’re being patient with yourself. You have the rest of your lifetime to keep working on these things, don’t give up with a sample size of a month, or hell, even 2 years. You have time. You are imperfect. Frankly, that second one is not changing. But you can change aspects of yourself, because you’re you. It’s just going to take consistency and effort. And to do that you need to be patient.
This is what learning is all about. I don't know about anyone else here but I, Especially lately, am starting to realize that learning becomes stronger because you have forgotten something, but returned back to it in some way. Why? Think about it this way: let's say you're trying to learn something, let's say you search it online. The next day you forget it, and somehow, somewhere, you are reminded of it again. once you are reminded of it, it hits harder. `I can't believe I forgot this thing," you say to yourself. Emotions and memory seemed to be very interlinked to a certain extent. Anyway, so you remember this thing, and strive not to forget it again. This may happen several times, but eventually you'll reach a point when you'll never forget this thing. At least that's how it works for me, but maybe it's just a me thing. Who knows?

The concrete (factual, physical, strictly in-the-moment) information that is perceived being internally organized and taxonomized based upon what is considered important or significance. So if your Si can be activated to specifically target that stuff, it’s probably because the 3rd or 4th time was more important to you.
That's why you develope new habits to circumvent those old habits.
For instance, i always forget my wallet and my keys when going out, and no matter how i try to fight those habits, i can't shake them, so i made new habits, as it happens, i never forget my jacket, so i keep my wallet and keys IN the jacket, even at home, that way, i never forget them, and i always know where they are. :P
I kept being told "You have empathy" which never sat right with me in the way most people think of empathy (thats is feeling someone elses emotions)
But I have come to realise that what people see as empathy is actually me just doing a very quick analysis of a persons situation, their expressions, actions and behaviour and deducing what they are logically likely to be "feeling" because I have observed what most people simply do not.
Yes, it's called cognitive empathy.

I handle the world of people and my bird handles the world of things and together we navigate reality successfully. lol If the hot water heater goes out, my bird the INTP fixes it. If someone calls our home crying, the bird hands me the phone and says, "you got this psych nurse."
Here are my almost 12 rules.
-Expecting others to be rational is by itself an irrationnal expectation.
So stay rational and allow them to be what they are.
-Keep practicing on social things
Your natural tendancy as an INTP is to be alone, self sufficient and associal, the only work around is to push yourself practicing, going out, meeting new people, going to new places.
It s painful but worthy.
-Throwing superior rationality and logic at someone else's face is seen as arrogance.
People don t need to be saved. The only thing they want is to feel another human warmth and be understood. They don't want any INTP to solve their problems throwing at their faces solutions to their life struggles. As sad as it is, some will hate you if you do that. People like their problems, let them have them.
Don't forget that the way things are said, is more important than the things themselves.
Being too direct is counterproductive.
-Pay attention to how you look. Take care of yourself.
Dealing with social awkwardness starts with looking normal. Guys, this is so easy to be good looking, please don't disqualify yourself at this stage.
Give yourself the chance to screw up at a later stage of a social interraction. It's too dumb not to do something that easy.
Take care of your clothes, of your skin, of your hairs, of your teeth and be handsome.
-Patterns, Reccurence, and system building
Going to the essence of something concrete to generate abstract rules and patterns of understanding that apply to an infinite amount of other concrete cases is a superpower.
No one understand what that universe and human nature are made of better than you do.
A fucking superpower.
-Forget about meanings
Everything is absurd, nothing make sense, accept it.
Otherwise, you are digging down an endless rabbithole where your Ti/Ne combination will backfire at your face.
Store datas, organise them, sort them, modify them, analyse them. But don't try to find any meaning in them.
Your analyse must stop once you answered the True or False question.
-INTP are computers.
Sounds cool but it sux.
Your brain is basically building templates for every social situation it cans imagine.
Unfortunately, reality is never 100% similar as the template you prepared. Learn to be in the moment, learn to shut the computer down,

-Dating
Impossible to make any difference when someone is trying to flirt with you or just being nice right ?
Stick to the facts. The fucking facts, only them matter.
Dating, flirting etc is also another area where overanalyzing and overthinking will only lead you to mistakes and misunderstoods.
Forget the words and stick to the facts.
If you want to know where you stand for someone, just look at their actions, they speak louder than words.
-Try to sleep.

It;s confusing for me as an INTP sometimes, when i see an Extravert telling me everything about him/her, i easily assume this person really like me but that s not the case, for some types telling everything about them is just normal.

Hmm, as an ISFP I am somewhere in between being very private and wanting to share my life story right away because I want desperately to be understood, so I can relate a bit to your feelings of confusion. It's weird if it happens right off the bat, let's say on a first or second date that you know the whole history of somebody's trauma because I DON'T KNOW YOU, and so what am I suppose to do with that information lol. But I love it when other people confide to me. Sadly it doesn't happen very often, so I just feel lucky whenever someone does tell something private about themselves. Also it always gets a bit complicated and intense when you meet a person online, because things turn quite deep rather fast. Idk yet whether that's a bad or a good thing.

Even those who do the less effort in that direction, somewhere in their mind, they want it.
But growing up, you tend to give up on that expectation that is, matter of fact, unrealistic.

Well I do understand that especially INTPs want someone who can understand them, since you are quite the special bunch. I asked him once Do you ever feel like you know somebody but then at the same time doesn't know them at all? He answered me Yeah, but can we actually really understand another human being? He took some of my anxieties and turned them into dust and I'm thankful for that. I'm not the kind of person to move on quickly, because I rarely find someone I want to be with in the first place. @@kageyama-kun1744 It’s very obvious. He’s definitely an Introvert, definitely Intuitive, and definitely Logical. That leaves intj or intp. But he’s far too adept at creating and contributing to the mbti framework seemingly out of thin air. That’s pretty much an INTP thing.
And when in doubt there is the personality database site. Masses agree he is intp. And personality type is one of those things where the mass vote gravitates towards true mean it seems.

@@kageyama-kun1744 It’s not my idea, the dichotomy system is mother/daugher pair Briggs/Myers trait identification system that maps to one’s Jungian dominant and auxiliary functions.
It’s like, sure to determine if one is a man or woman we can check the number of Y chromosomes they have, but we could also just observe if they have the trait of a penis now couldn’t we.
He is clearly Ti dominant. That immediately makes him IxTx. It’s clear his aux is not Se, thus he must be INTP. You could reason it that way too. It’s all the same thing under the MBTI framework. Now if you’re classical Jungianist, then technically you could say well he could be Ti dom and Ni aux, as Jung did not impose an I/E counterbalance of the dom/aux functions under his original framework - but I highly doubt you have thought that deeply.
Anyways, you can take mbti or leave it, but under its framework, the reasoning I put forth is logically sound. If you think the mbti framework is crap, then don’t watch his videos lol.
As an ENTJ, those nuggets of information are so incredibly useful. It’s like another realm of possibility opens. Like another world. Then I get to show INTPs in reality what they opened up inside me. It’s an incredibly rewarding relationship. The result is that I am able to show others the pragmatism in doing things different but better. I could never get there as quickly without the INTPs help. INTPs save us from months and years of agony.

Yes, most things people say in the psychology community will be relatable in some way shape or form (hence mistyping and equivocal self-diagnosis, not to mention things like astrology). However, I've found your sayings to be absolutely surgically precise virtually all of the time, when it comes to the deep essence of the INTP.
I'm a 16 year old from Brazil, and after intense analysis, came to consider myself a logician. We were raised in extremely contrasting cultures, and are not in the same stage in life, as our age gap indicates. Despite all of that, there's not a time when I listened to what you had to say and got the feeling of "that seems off". Still, every time I relate, it feels almost uncanny.
All of that to say that I think you're doing an amazing job... But I guess, if we're actually so akin, you definitely already knew that, hahah.

I'm also a 16 year old living in an Se dominant country. I stopped watching this video at 12:28 the 10th rule hit me even though all of them did. The memories of the 2 years I wasted staying in my room constantly failing to do something resurfaced once more, and I hate how I've become brainclogged to the point where I lost all of my treasured strengths. Anyways good luck on whatever you do, off topic but I found listening to September by Earth, Wind, and Fire helped me boost my mood when forcing myself to be productive.

@@nicolascalegario8835 Same. On an imaginary scale I guess 1 out of 5 people here are Fe dominants. The social dynamics here is straight up Se-Fi with an obnoxious blindspot Ti that literally blinds everyone with disinformation and propaganda. There's one good thing I like here tho, it's the eagerness to fully experience the sensory world (Treasured Se) but there are some times where I just hope they leave introverts alone while leaving no Ni remarks about their behavior.
Typically, "relatable descriptors of your personality" such as horoscopes tend to only/mostly focus on positive aspects, making it easier for you to believe. When the negatives are on full display and you still undeniably associate those traits with yourself, its very likely realistic and not just a sham, which is what i like about this channel
I love INTPs, one of my cousins is a definite INTP, and I've learned so much from him. He even got me into the "Star Wars" and "Lord of the Rings" movies, and he has interesting theories on almost every aspect of the franchises.

Number 9 hit me hard. I think I need new friends 😭. I just keep my thoughts to myself more and more these days because no one around me values my life observations.
I've got exactly one person i can talk to and be understood. A fellow INTP.
i feel the exact same way.
Inactivity is my biggest struggle. So often I push myself super hard for a few months or weeks that I get overwhelmed by the enormity of my goals and withdraw into a more simple life. It made college much harder than it needed to be for someone of my capabilities. In my first two years, I'd have perfect grades for like half the semester, get frustrated with my classes and stop trying, and barely pass by the end. Though some self reflection and research into my personality, I was able to come up with various strategies to alleviate pressure on myself and allow me to enjoy my classes instead of resenting them. The main thing that helped was not to force myself to do things for the sake of a grade, but let my curiosity pull me along to discover interesting things about what I was learning.
I have been an ardent (turbulent) INTP throughout life, however thr empirical experience have i fathomed, sincerely, certain things are beyond scrutiny. Concepts like affection - maternal, agape, conjugal are many a time unfathomable. Metaphysics is after all a science yet unknown. Many energies at play are yet unknown...
Besides, even if everything were decipherable, many a time, living it, feeling, is the best (even the most utilitarian) course of action... Experiences of the ethereal world are just as or more objectively and scalably important than any calculus...
As a fellow INTP, I've recently purely been focusing on developing execution and not just storing my ideas in my head. I've garnered 176K views in the past month from just executing my ideas. Not just thinking. But working them out! And surprise surprise, it works! So as a fellow INTP to another INTP, we are only as strong as our weakest function. So develop that shit!
I am a little mad at how accurate this is. I'm a biomedical engineering PhD student and I had a bit of a falling out with my lab mates a few weeks ago so I have completely withdrawn, ignoring them whenever possible, never offering any insight or advice. They just really betrayed my trust and hurt me so I don't want to open myself back up to those assholes.
Hi, i am exactly the same. Betray me and that person is basically dead to me. My advice is, just be courteous and do not get into arguments/pissing contests with any of them(also, do not ever trust people who sabotaged you or sabotaged your work) Do you actually need "lab mates" at all ? or this is some type of group project ? Concentrate on your studies and stay away from chitchat/idle talk/gossip. (keep your eyes on the prize: PhD )
This is who I am. I'm due for an assessment for ADHD. My mother thinks I'm autistic, I get told I am monotone and stick to the negative way too much.
I'm glad I found out I am an INTP and found others who think like me. It's okay to be who I am and it's okay that I stick to the truth, it's not my fault that life is mostly negative. I am in no way delusional.
Me too- though I figured out after my first child was diagnosed that I'm autistic with ADHD. I love my unique brain, and the only downside of
diagnosis was that it didn't happen until I was approaching 40. Diagnosis makes a great difference when it comes to understanding yourself, so if you have the opportunity to, go for it 😀
9) "Always share your thoughts" I wish I could agree, but I can't. You should share your thoughts, but not always. Sometimes, it's better to keep your mouth shut, or say something that you don't really think/believe. Some people will not only not appreciate any input, instead they will twist it around and use it against you, just out of spite or to achieve their malignant goals. What is useful is the ability to identify such ppl, and indeed, the proficiency in sharing your thoughts the right way can help fish them out.
I agree it serves to be judicious and careful, but I can never claim something I don't believe. Doing that feels like perversely twisting reality out of cowardice. I'd rather be silent.
I think apathy is better than bitterness. If I find somebody is bad for me, I just walk away. Or maybe make them walk away. I am not wasting my energy hoarding anger or resentment. I call that Apathy, and I do embrace that, once I make my decision. Of course if conditions warrant, I might change my mind.

Well, as if you were describing me now I work in a supermarket I suffer from the same problem, I always feel that time is short, so I do not change my routine in food, but tell me, how did you work in the supermarket, was it not difficult?
@@Wizard-uk8ds Warehousing part was difficult. I can't put a pallet back together. But customer service and upselling was easier because I already worked out most trends and FAQ's. Physically, I do tire out, so after lockdown when I lost my job, when many others quit, I just work casually to avoid warehousing work.

- pick your battles, analyze when it makes sense, learn to control the ability to analyze

- obviously relevant given my recent phase
- I couldn't have fought my way out of my recent passivity, I don't feel like it would have been healthy to just force myself to do things regardless of how I felt
- I needed to go investigate, to take myself to the side and figure out what's wrong
- (see notes on feeds below)
- struggle with the core of the issue
- somehow find a good next step to take (e.g. deciding to rather go work with Tobias some more, rather then continuing to sit at home)
- 4. ~~Remember the Power of~~ *Embrace* Play
- when I saw that vision of remaining playful, never being done learning, always keeping that silliness, playfulness, curiosity I felt like that's how I'd want to be when I was older
- For a long time, I've wanted to be a cool grandpa, do a lot of crazy stuff with grandchildren
- "whenever life is beating [the joy of play] out of you, it's probably a sign that something needs to change"
- very good advice, takes courage to act on
- 5. ~~Avoid Mental Ruts and Loops~~ *when you're stuck, (allow yourself to) do something different for a while*
- e.g. *think* but also *do* something different, like going outside, meeting with someone else, something physical
- let the problem ripen, the crucial insight can't be forced

- the things you do every day are (some of) the most important
- make sure those things are aligned with what you actually want, what's healthy for you
- 7. Leave the house of invite people to yours
- good advice, for me, it's been very good to leave the house every day
- I haven't had people over much, mostly because I don't have a place that I think is suited for visitors (it's functional, but probably boring to most), though I can imagine one day having a nice place to also just hang out in
- another aspect is, I'm not very drawn to being a host, if I'm gonna be one, my standards would be quite high (make sure my guests enjoy their stay), which is a lot of effort
- 8. People are irrational, but they aren't random
- this is really important, I feel one of the biggest downfalls for INTPs or people I observe in general, is not being able to empathize with anothers perspective and mode of being
- you don't need to understand everything about them and just because you don't understand something about someone else, doesn't make them or what they are experiencing invalid
- respect others, you want to be respected too and it's much harder to learn from someone who disrespects you OR who you don't respect
- you can learn something from everyone, no matter how little sense you can make of them initially
- 9. Always share your thoughts
- don't expect people to immediately pick up what you're putting down
- with insights or knowledge that seems very important or needed, make sure it survives your bodies death
- 10. Be a jack of all trades and a master of one
- the jack of all trades thing comes naturally
- the master of one part is very pragmatic, you need to be grounded somewhere and be able to *trade* it to sustain your needs
- it might feel like a big cost or sacrifice (NE: "But what about all the other possibilities?!?") to narrow down on one thing, but to function in todays society, for better or worse, you need to contribute something concrete
- remember that with something as a foundation, you can branch out as far as you like after
- also, if you have something you can point to, you don't need to justify all the other obscure things you spend your time on because they're like "Oh, he's a writer."
- People seemingly can't stand not being able to place someone in some mental box
- 11. Create rules, formulas and principles
- it's satisfying to do and share
- 12. Whenever possible, have something to show for the work you do
- I take this quite literally:
- collect written feedback and documentation for every work experience you made, that is really useful to look back on personally, to see ones own development and show to someone else ("What have you been doing with your time?")
- otherwise, it's basically Nr. 11, unless you physically build something
- in that case, how you built it, the plans, the iterations are valuable too
I am thankful for the creator to have made this video, it's been useful for reflecting on my personal development.

I developed apathy since a young age because showing emotions wasn't easy but analysing it was fun, watching others squabble over something trivial that you can logically just say is stupid because you can see the fault in their logic but you see them stubborn and you enjoy how every chip in their defenses evokes an emotional response l, but then you don't care about how they feel when you just simply say, "you're wrong" not because you want to insult them but apathetic truth makes the most sense is something I've thought about for the last 14 years of my life and I'm 24
Yes. The one difference is that when i was younger i added to the fun by mirroring their emotions, facial expressions, etc as a sort of weird experiment. Made it far easier to socialize because then everyone you talk to gets to talk to themselves...for a bit.
5) I definitely do this, especially when deciding the most efficient way to do chores. The outcome? I can't do A until I do B, but I can't do B until I do A (or rather, shouldn't). The solution? Do nothing. Just agonize over it.

INTJ friend teases me endlessly for doing this. But there is an efficient path of multiple steps! That I'll start on later...
After a several months long battle with what to do with a pile of random useless junk collected over the years i finally settled on a plan:
6am - wake up, coffee. Spend time during coffee re checking my plans....numerous times in case at the last moment i found more efficiency. Have some breakfast. Oatmeal with peanut butter....another cup of coffee....more thinking.
7:30am- rehearse the walking paths through each room. Final analysis on the most efficient way to get the clutter into bags....
9am- bags have been laid in each room for clutter collection. Sorting begins. Back of the house to front because all bags of clutter can be placed into a singular staging area by a french door and thus much easier egress with said bags of clutter.
11am- sorting complete. Lunch. Salami wrap. Down the hatch.
11:10am- sorted clutter into bags begins
3pm- clutter removed to utility trailer. 8 large trash bags of clutter.
4pm- another coffee. Optimal means of disposal contemplation restarts.
6:30pm- settle on lining bags against a log leftover from a hurricane blowdown. Slightly uphill. Obviously light the most downhill bag for the most efficient even burn.
8pm- dinner.
8:10pm-2am- random youtube documentary on the Bronze age collapse followed with vids on bushcrafting, dark matter, Japanese traditional joinery, ultralight backpacking, how to build a dcf model for investing in Excel, and a lesson on major triads from Guthrie Trapp.
1:55 one of the biggest problems i have that i dont see with many other intps is that im surprisingly nosy about peoples problems and secrets. i try way too hard to share as much as possible with my closer friends online because i have a lot of trouble just speaking at all in real life (for a few different reasons)
so i end up expecting that from others by asking too many questions and trying to make sure im not hiding anything and that they arent either.
it ends up getting really frustrating when i talk to people and they say how they are afraid of what others might do or say if they share something weird or something like that, or because "its a secret" or "i dont need to tell you that". so in the search of getting a perfect and accurate understanding of this person, i end up unintentionally pushing them too much which makes them not wanna tell me things, and therefore putting that fear into reality.
I am a happy INTP, I totally embrace emotions and intuition as a form of wisdom and internal guidance. A teacher once told my class that the biggest decisions we made are taken with the heart and then I realized it was true: to choose a career that makes you happy (beyond profitable), a partner, to have children or not, to move out, etcetera. The eagerness to be happy and have a meaningful life is our soul speaking. I am a psychologist so I give emotions its place: a powerful resource to guide ourselves♥ Once a person learns that emotions are a tool instead of a burden life changes :) I´ve seen it with my patients ♥

You should probably draw it and put it somewhere you’ll see everyday, like a poster in your room or something. There’s a lot of power in symbolism for us so I guess it’s a better alternative than a tattoo.

This is great advice. I have notes about rules like this all over my house; on whiteboards left behind chairs; on various mirrors; on random pieces of paper that are now probably behind my desk or under my couch. Structure is such a necessary and counter-intuitively liberating thing. Without it, just keeping track of things while trying to accomplish something becomes an insurmountable task.
As a suggestion to any INTPs wanting to develop these skills, read these books (or audiobook): the confidence gap, and then atomic habits. Combined, you're set on a path to develop structure you can't avoid. Structure that will give you insight that can practically carry you through some hardships - assuming you follow the directions :P which we're not very good at.

3: I rather say burnout and lack of internal motivation leads me to Passivity. Not in physical sense. When someone is just there and says: ok, that's a good idea, let's do this, is enough me to do something. But when people just judge me, it is rather easier to not do anything i'm already a bad person, why would i do anything that gives people opportunity to mock and criticise me again?
My INTP friend refuses REFUSES to focus on one main skill in 3d animation. He's convinced that being decent at most things will help him get work in game design.

Apathy can be dangerous for INTPs but luckily with a little Fe injection apathy can easily be turned into patience which is a very useful skill to have. Any progress, even slow progress, becomes extremely powerful over time.

Thank you so much for these reminders. This video came to me right in time. I'm struggling with procrastination and somewhat laziness even though I keep reminding myself that having my mind busy with ideas and studies all the time is beneficial and pleasant to me and feels natural.
And fun fact: couple of years ago I had a friend-ish who eventually opened up and criticized me for having a "staring problem" (hi Bucky) as if I was studying her and judging her actions and words, and in fact it was weird to me to have it pointed out 'cause that kind of behavior of analyzing and observing everything felt normal to me to the extent that I've never noticed that and no one has ever mentioned that I have this "staring problem" so to speak.

My friends often say I’m a very mature INTP which i was always skeptical of because I wasn’t sure how to measure maturity, watching this video did lead to some insight that this may be true because I do or try to do most of what this video suggests. So to my fellow INTPs incorporate these rules into your life it will work.
7:19 I live in a house full of people that are even more socially introverted than I do, so I sometimes use work as an excuse to head out. It happens more often in the cooler months.
'Sharing thoughts' is tough because chatting is for fun. None of my formulas/principles are worth sharing unless the listener is receptive and engaged. In short, it has to be relevant to the convo. Rather than share mine I'll simply play with their ideas instead.

I hate echo chambers of people aggreeing with eachother, but it was comforting seeing other people who think like me. Im 26 and I've found myself falling into the catagory of nihilists. And while I dont think that will change, learning more about myself through this video felt good.

I have a power of play story. I had started my job 9 years ago with a terrible supervisor that didn't want me distracting others from getting their work done by asking how I was supposed to do mine. I felt that I was in danger of getting fired every day. To avoid being stressed out I treated the job like a game. For some people that is irresponsible, but I'm deadly competitive, so I could stay highly focused without the pressure of the results.After a year I was reasonably proficient, after 5 the work climate improved and I'm arguably the best at what I do there.
Create rules, formulas and principles stood out to me. It actually caused me to think of a new rule that I will put in place for my trainees tomorrow.
I would like to recommend the book Principles by Ray Dalio.
I agree to everything Nathan is saying sadly. These are definitely most of my weaknesses. Another weakness of mine is also I really don't do much unless I get jealous. What I mean about that is like how I learned that my uncle, who is 2 years older, could play guitar. I had 0% interest of learning it prior but after that day I had so much urge to be better than him. Once I got better than him, I stopped exerting effort. I just had to confirm that I'm better at it. Now I want to find a career that will support my want to be working from home and I think I want to be a programmer, I learned probably just basics of C and left in in pending for 3 months now. Help! Lol. And if it helps, I'm currently a leading a team of virtual assistants.

Funny enough, being self-aware, I'm actually working on all these points you mentioned by analyze my life truthfully with myself. Be truthful to yourself and ask yourself what you want over the next/multiple decades. Find out what you can improve and whether the improvement will make sense and push you forward, be mindful of not doing these action for the sake of fitting but for the sake of you own future. My biggest regret is passivity, I've only start realizing these when I hit 27yo. Life won't come to you, be a little bit more active to try to pursue it, enjoy ever step of the journey regardless of the end result.

I've tested as INTP since I was a kid. Never believed it. Spent 6months a few years ago reading anything I could find on the subject, filled notebooks, trying to prove that I was indeed a different type. I've 98% accepted that I am INTP now that I'm in my 30's.

Wow… exactly what I thought was true but was struggling and confused due to people around and what world values and idealizes…. It puts me at a great mental ease to know that the truth I felt about myself is the truth indeed.
You've got me nailed. Not literally of course, because then I'd struggle to write this. But you've described me right down to the PJs.
It's hard to embrace my emotions. But I found my way to accept it little by little - with the help of filmmaking and storytelling. Those two things are all about exploring emotions and presentation that we INTP needs. The great thing about those is we can use our tendency to analyze everything in that craft...although I'm still starting and struggling to start making an art about it.
The point is...find your arts and craft as a starting point. The next steps are easy as long as we take action. I kind of need help about taking action though.
This video is very accurate on a personal level. Like, I've independently discovered pretty much the exact same things, for example, rule 8.
In my own pursuits of truth, I've ironically realized that humanity pursues truth for the purpose of the enrichment of life. In other words, truth is subservient to life, and does not warrant pursuit in its own right. There are quantities of life that outweigh quantities of truth, but not quantities of truth that outweigh quantities of life (after everything is accounted for, that is). One might insist that some truths are worth a sacrifice of life, but ultimately they miss the fact that those sacrifices are only worth it because of more enrichment of life in the end. This rests on truth being a phenomenon of the human experience, and the human experience is the very lens through which we are eternally bound by an utterly robust logical arrangement: the theory of mind, and quantization of the micro-interactions that form consciousness in the mind and separate the universe's chaos into individual human beings.
Stopped the video part way during rule 1 to hit the like button and echo the thing about understanding other people's emotions. I excel at understanding others, because I tend to logic my way through if this happened then a,b,c would be the most likely response. However, ask me what I'm feeling and I either have no idea or in don't have strong emotions either way. This has caused some issues with my f type people.
The going outside is definitely true. Being inside and alone is good at times because it allows for self reflection and you don’t have to be dragged into drama. Although, it does get lonely from time to time so the excuse I make is to go outside to get some sunlight and vitamin d. As well as hang out with close ones.
Whew, number 6 is me. I remember eating Chili every day for like a month because I didn't feel like making anything else. Not to mention I can make a crapload of it so I don't have to spend my time making new food every day. Not to mention, I only have to clean 1 bowl per day. Also, 11 is me. I was definitely the advice giver due to my analytical nature so I usually give a moderately unbiased brain child for them to follow. My closest friend knows that my brain works that way so she understands that if I give advice, she should probably follow it due to the considerable amount of time I've spent thinking about it and mulling different scenarios that might play out given certain actions. People are indeed formulaic yet difficult to predict. As the quote goes "History doesn't repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme."
I’m most certainly an INTJ, but almost everything fits with an INTP too. The detached observer, the logic, the dealing with emotions. I know I’m an INTJ mainly because I love making decisions and narrowing down to something tangible. But my social skills, life, daydreaming, detachment, variety of interests and skills, really match here as well.

For one I really find it fascinating how some people can be so articulate about their thoughts and emotions , my thoughts would be all over the place and I would be so conflicted about what I should say, because my mind work faster than my tongue so i tend to say the conclusions and people would ask me to elaborate more then i feel tired to go over the process so i just avoid these situations or simply doesn’t share anything and this honestly becomes an endless cycle that i want to get out of but I failed to do so every time

I went through that apathetic phase when I started out high school and it went on until the start of the next year. When it came to stuff like grades i had improved but when it came to my connection with people? Not so much. I pushed away girlfriend and alot of 'friends' because I said what I thought without filter. Later on my best friend slowly pulled me out of that phase. My biggest worry was actually if i was the only one, no one else around seemed to have had that type phase so i was worried something was actually wrong with me. Thanks for putting that point in the video, although It has been years that I've figured out that I wasn't going mad, i hope someone else can see this video before they mess up like I did
I used to treat eating as bodily function, on demand and paying no mind. As I got older, I made a conscious decision to be mindful of my meals. I’d stick to a set of dishes that are easy to make and delicious. I’d eat the same dishes for months or years until I switch to new easy and delicious dishes. Doing so I won’t waste grocery, won’t eat junk, and save time on what to eat.
I have been “working” from home since last July. I love to live in my PJs and home cocoon so much that I am retiring in July this year. It is great to have every minute doing whatever I want. And finally start tackling all the hobbies I have been wanting to get into (got every tool and material already).
Two nights ago I had a dream. In it I pummeled my mother repeatedly because she misplaced a power cord for the handy vacuum. I was livid and lost control. It felt so real. In real life I moved my mother in with me since last year. She’s not the type I can live with in peace therefore many times I screamed and yelled at her. I feel guilty treating my mother impatiently because she is old and slow and can’t hear. I am trying my best to not yell at her although I don’t always succeed.
