Can I ask what type of sales you are in? I have been in sales for years, but I work in education and we don’t make commission. I do very well for an average middle class income, but I feel like I am very skilled on the phone and am curious where these huge incomes are coming from in sales? I am an hourly employee and it’s more stable, but I am curious if your income is pure commission based? Do you have any advice for helping me get over the fears of pure commission work? Thanks!

Man, 1000% facts. The rewarding myself part is great for me to hear because I've logged that in my notes after coming to that realization myself 5 years ago or so. To hear that repeated from a man I look up to and respect so much is amazing confirmation that I'm on the right path, while also even further raising my confidence in his words because I've already been living in and experiencing the truth in his words. Powerful. I'm very grateful 🙏🏿

The purpose of life is not to make money but to be disciplined, be like water.

Great episode, but unfortunately too late for me. :) I've been a Head of Sales & Biz Development in an IT company, worked 24/7/365, and burned out after 3 years in the industry. Had to take a position 100500 times lower to just re-charge myself. I never got back to top positions - just couldn't (those who know what a burnout is, will understand). Starting my own business seemed to be the solution. I wish I understood that I need to reward myself back in the days. But then if I didn't burn out? I wouldn't take that leap of faith and make major changes in my career (and mindset, too).

There's a lack of connection to what's actually going on other than sales that leads to sort of a mental lack of resolution. The trouble is we're all so specialized now that you can't really be in sales and be connected to what you're selling to really know everything tangibly about it from start to finish.
Your advice is good as sales isn't really anything tangible unless you're so lucky that you just love spending time with your clients (even outside of sales) and they have a need for what you're selling. After that, you can have rewards or you can have goals, or both - how someone responds to each depends on the person (most people like to have rewards rolled in - but the reward can be as simple as putting more money aside for the future and watching it grow rather than buying expensive stuff).

  • @rocobear5709

When I have a good Month/Year I reward myself by prepaying bills for the next year so the following year I can work with a clear head, only select the work that I WANT to do, and have less stress (that is my reward... having no boss or bills) . And when I have $ left over after that, I invest in other business projects. Problem with buying watches , vacations and fancy dinners if you have regrets about the spending if the next month/year is not as good.

I need to be the BEST SALESPERSON of the entire team. My motivation? Be recognized as the best and buy Real Estate in cash until I make the same out of properties as in sales. Your reward shouldn’t be SPENDING, otherwise you overspend and never have anything in life. Patrick said something very important. The reward is tied to a number of revenue and savings. Understand this! You make $100,000 and you spend $2000. You don’t make $10,000 and spend $12,000. Great video man.

Hey folks in the comments: came from the army, 6 months in sales and I am doing really well. Top of my sales team now but I'm all inside sales. Does all of this apply no matter if youre an inside or outside guy or is some of it inside/outside specific. I'm still trying to figure this out

This is very elementary! Everyone has success and failure but even failure has its virtues. Sometimes you set a goal too high or unrealistic, so even partial success can be rewarded. I'm retired but work part time, they needed a little extra help and I made more money than usual. Why hell! I'll go out and spend a $100 on a good time! If money is just for necessities, then where's the enjoyment?
