I got some bulky yarn at a thrift store and searched a long time for a pattern I could make with it. I managed to make this poncho but had to leave the last two rounds as I ran out of yarn , but its nice and stretchy so it reaches my wrists just fine. Had a couple of times i had to undo a couple of rows and redo but I got the hang of it by the end. I really love the result with the lacy effect. Thankyou for this video I would never have been able to follow the written pattern!
How wonderful! I love that you thrifted the yarn! That's huge! Now you have a lovely poncho. This is a blessing to hear. Thank you for sharing that with me, and I hope you have many years of pleasure wearing your poncho!

I am in Canada & not expert in choosing yarn for my project but I tried . I feel that yarn is not soft the way I wanted . I like soft yarn and washable easily without worrying to get ruin wooly wooly thready thready.
@@krissysoverthemountaincrochet I'm just starting this and have an extra shell (I want 9 and have 10) in the first row so starting over. I'm using Homespun and that is challenging.
@@VernaBradshaw Oh yes...homespun is challenging, but it is so worth it if you can power through. I have an idea to help you get your base correct. What if you placed marker at every third or 6th chain? It is so hard to see and define those chains. Let me know if this helps.
@@krissysoverthemountaincrochet I changed yarn and had the same problem initially. I placed the stitch markers and realized some chains were hiding. I'm starting round 7 now. YAY me!!

I like this one and planning to knit but scared to dare because it is so much detail in each round. I know basic knitting and not sure if can follow it if try to start. You have explained so nicely all the steps. Thanks.
Hi there, I hope you can make this. If you know the basics of "Crochet", you will find it is easy to make, if you follow the step by step instructions that are presented in the video. I hope you give it a go. God Bless, Kris
Round 19 all dc stitches across, but not to dc in the last dc stitch of each 2 fan. TWELVE stitches for each fan. You also mentioned that total dc should be 144. Also 12×12=144. But I noticed that you did not dc in last fan in the end in the last 2 stitches. Then how you count them to make 144? I was reached somewhere upto round 28th. But in the end of circles started to come problems. Then I opened my rounds back and stuck on round 19th end. Please reply with some clarification so that I can complete my beautiful poncho. Thanks in advance ☺️!
I think that's a great idea. I haven't become comfortable with the foundation sc yet. One day I hope to be able to do and teach that stitch with confidence.
Hello Cate,Yes, that is the crochet hook for all sizes except for 5x... J/10-6mm (all sizes except for 5x) K/10.5-6.5mm (use this hook for 5x) I hope you enjoy crocheting this fun poncho!
@@krissysoverthemountaincrochet hello, thank you for your quick reply! I can’t wait to get started it looks like a fun project I’m making it for my sister for her birthday, now I can get started and don’t have to wait for the 10 mm hook to come in!!
@catebrush7561 since you have the written pattern, I would follow the directions in the pattern for the size you are wanting and use the j hook if you are using a bulky (5) yarn.
I hit the send button to soon, I also wanted to say, if you are using a(4) worsted weight Yarn, use a K hook. Which is what I am demonstrating in the video.
I got confused at round 27 ! I even undone round 26,then repeat 26th row as exactly as you've shown but since you simply instructed how to do round 27...despite me following your words....still it's not....round 26th starts with sc,ch 3,sc ,ch 2,trb ch2 trb,ch 2,sc ,ch 3,sc... ...can you please give me the 27th round from the beg till repeat...please. I'm making it for my husband's godmother in Zew Zealand. Thank you.

Hey...you know....now that I think about it..if you use the plus sized pattern...it would make a little ponchette...you could always add more fan rounds, and ch 4 rounds to make it a bit longer.
I just had to come back and say this beauty is a real knockout! ... and then I realized that I must have been so stunned and speechless that I didn't make a comment the first time.
Please relpy how many chains needs to start for kids age. Explain with example. Thanks . Large you told 81 for adults. For small girls I will say under 5 years or so how many chains. @Boyds_Irish_Lass, personally I *hate* "chainless foundations". So I'm glad this one DOESN'T have it.
