Fantastic report Paul and awesome to see it from your perspective! I agree with your views on WestJet, although there were teething problems I have no doubt that with such a friendly and experienced crew the service will be fantastic. I had a great time filming with you, James and Quintin and hope to join you again soon!
I live in Alberta, and I have flown Westjet countless times. I love this airline!!!!! It makes me so happy that they are finally being recognized as a highly reputable world class airline!!!
WestJet is my favourite airline! I've only ever travelled in economy but the service has always been top notch! There are always bound to be teething issues but I have no doubts that Westjet will address and it will be smooth sailing from her on in! So glad that you enjoyed your flight with WestJet! I've been watching your videos for about 18 months now. While I enjoyed your earlier videos very much. You are on a different level now. All the best and keep up the great content.
Wingin' It!, QFS Aviation, Inglight Video, and Simply Aviation are the best trip report vloggers on UA-cam! WestJet have started out as an "LCC" here in Canada, which because of their prices (being similar to Air Canada) are a bit of a punchline. Paul .. thank you very much for reviewing westjet.. I live in Victoria British Columbia, and westjet is the first choice with me. And thank you for featuring them! Cannot wait for my flight to London early May and the opportunity to check out their business class Great vid Paul
Yay! So happy you flew on our "little" hometown airline!! I still remember the days of the hand-me-down 737-200s. Very glad you enjoyed the flight as well! I'm sure the kinks will be solved soon enough as the service on the 737s and Q400s is legendary in the industry. Enjoy your stay in Calgary!!
officiallygow It’s amazing to see where Westjet has grown to, I recall them being the other Caribbean option to Air Canada or Air Transat, definitely will investigate their europe options for my next trans Atlantic flight
Very nice report Paul . As former Cabin Crew -- new aircraft are always foreign for us to work . That being said , the service and comfort level looked wonderful . :D
Congratulations Paul on another great video. Pretty cool being on the inaugural! Also have to say again you have the best taxi sequences of any of us - by far! I love the editing you put into them. cheers D
Way to go WestJet! I wish them the best as they continue to expand. It's always good to have more competition in the Canadian airline market. It helps push Air Canada (and WestJet) to continually improve their products, to the benefit of all Canadian travelers.
Thank you, Paul. It's going to be interesting to see how WESTJET develops over the next few years, and I would imagine this won't be your last trip. Cheers, Rik Spector
I guess paul is smarter than all of us! He can make money and have fun at the same damn time! Not only talking about traveling with his people...keep it up! You make it look easy! Respect.
Under quarantine, not much to do but watch videos. Of all the travel vloggers, yours and Jeb Brooks are the best. So, keep up the good work. In the meantime, I will continue plowing through videos of all the places I have been and on the flights I have taken but can't do right now.
Very impressed! I thought that would be a no frills budget flight so was pleasantly surprised to see what looks like a comfortable flight with very modern facilities. The food looked good too.
Calgary is where I live! Not the most touristy city besides stampede but living here is great, there’s a reason it’s considered the second best city in the world!
I remember reading an article a couple years back saying Westjet had partnered with Mcdonalds for their drinks because Mcdonalds would do a good job at keeping up with demand for hot drinks needed for its flights.
Whee Transport plus McDonald's just has good coffee. I'm glad they didn't partner up with Tim's because it would be a cutesy Canadian gimmick with subpar coffee
As always Paul a comprehensive overview of this new service. Also in a sense an “inaugural” comparison between yourself and Noel Philips having travelled together and your individual style/rhetoric when it comes to these reviews, It was really interesting to see the difference...
Another great video Paul. I have been an a inaugural train before but never an inaugural flight before. However, I have been on the first passenger flight with a brand new plane when I flew a new Alaska Airlines 737-900 in 2013. The flight attendants were still figuring out how to work the mood lighting. That also was my first time every in first class and I have been flying for a long time.
I watched that aircraft being finished up at the Boeing factory in Everett back in January! Very cool to see it in one of your videos. I remember seeing the banner on the side of the plane stating that it was Westjet's #1 Dreamliner (they number all of the Dreamliners by the airline and then the number).
Wow! Totally amazing! Looks like you had a really great day for flying, too. I liked the colour scheme of the plane as well. Very soothing and relaxing. You are making me miss Manchester, Paul. I need to get things together so I can hop back over the pond to visit. Perhaps after I come home from hospital. Your videos have been cheering me considerably since I fell ill, so ta very much for that!
Westjet have only been flying the 767s for a few years, all of their 4 767s are 767-338ER which were, indicated by the ‘38’ customer code, ordered and delivered to Qantas and another fun fact is that the registrations of all four contain the old QF registrations... e.g. C-FOGD was VH-OGD.
Fantastic review and what a treat to see you all together. I love the interior design they've come up with...very elegant. I think for the price this was a good deal.
Hi Paul A real good inside look at the new aircraft for this airline and it was good to see that you caught up with some fellow friends at the beginning of the video. The interior of the aircraft looked fresh but I must admit I feel the airline will have to improve the amenity packs, they looked well below par for business class. Looking forward to your next video. Kind regards DS
Paul, a couple of thoughts...your comments on the product are spot on. If I were to criticize Westjet regarding the service, there should have been dry runs on the service in Business before the inaugural, so I'm not sure I'd be as charitable as you were, since they have had the plane for awhile now and the service bugs should have been ironed out before the first revenue flight. Having said that, I have painful experience with catering and provisioning problem on an inaugural for which I was in charge. Trust me when I tell you that nobody feels worse about that than the crew onboard and it is VERY difficult to cope with the stress of doing a first flight when you don't have the tools and on an eight hour flight it's really tough on the crew to make it up. However, I am confident Westjet will get this right in short order. I have seen other videos of their 787 cabin and it is really a very Canadian design (which is to say, sophisticated, but subtle). The introduction of Westjet's 787 service will up everybody's game in Western Canada and to the destinations in which Westjet will compete with this aircraft. Again, thanks for the report and enjoy your stay in the great Canadian west.
I've learned that everyone loves to come to my house because there is always a cake and champagne reception. Thanks for a fun report. The interior color schemes, appointments, seats are very stylish. Thumbs up for nice video editing.
Fantastic report on westjet I have flown several times on there 767 from Calgary to Gatwick when I visit home in the uk . Looking forward to the Business class seats thx again.
I recently flew Premium Economy on Westjet’s Dreamliner service from Calgary to London Gatwick and back, and I can’t say enough about the service. Some of the most enjoyable transatlantic flights I have had (and I’ve had many). The food was wonderful and served at just the right time, and the entertainment was good. I especially enjoyed the noise cancelling headphones. As of October 11 the flight attendants have new uniforms with hats for the ladies and more teal for all. My only quibble with the Dreamliner is that I am too short to reach the lever to open the overhead bin. The Calgary to Europe connections on WestJet will now be my preferred flights across the pond.
Great report as usual Paul. Thanks for getting this one out super fast, as I am doing the reverse trip in 2 weeks. Looks like a great aircraft/product!
Liqour list...low to middle shelf. As a scotch fan I'd like something more than Johnnie Black and glenlivet. Their gin and Canadian whiskey were just your standard offerings. Overall, what a beautiful experience. Another great video!
Kevin Walters Should it not be spelt ‘Whisky’ on the menu after Glenlivet in the video? When referring to Scotch, as opposed to Whiskey like Irish. Attention to detail from Westjet ? Or am I incorrect?
Nope, my use of the term refers to the Canadian. Only the Scottish are rightfully allowed the "Whisky" verbiage. The rest of the world is left to use "whiskey". Here's something for you.....the Canadians often steal the spelling....which is frowned upon by folks like me. I refuse to give their product that honor.
That’s what I was referring to, in the video Paul scrolls down and you can see on the menu list westjet have spelled ‘Whiskey’ beside Glenlivet. I thought they would have spelled it Whisky. Because it’s scotch.
Hey Paul. Living in 🇨🇦 we fly westjet all the time. To the states to Europe. They are fantastic. Love your vids. Keep up the great reviews. Fly safe during the pandemic 👍🏻👍🏻
I normally don't drink alcohol on flights. I wait until I get to I get to my destination. Somehow alcohol in an aircraft makes me feel uneasy, I don't know if it's just in my mind, but... I just stick to soft drinks while in the air.
I'm glad you went to Canada, second largest country in landmass and inland water, the only country bordered by three oceans, Pacific, Atlantic and the Arctic, a tenth of the population of the USA, 35.5 million. We strive for second best, as this takes the heat off us but for ice hockey we are the best. Great country with vistas that go on for ever and ever especially if you dive anywhere. Enough of my proud Canadian BS, great video and great presentation, well done.
@@mikegurney9278 well you could also say that the Baltic, North Sea, English Channel, Irish Sea Bay of Biscay are all part of the Atlantic ocean. All depends on how you size the Atlantic ocean. Also the United States also borders 3 Oceans. Due to Alaska bordering the Artic Ocean
Great video! Very excited to see WestJet expanding with their destinations and fleet! Hopefully they will continue to improve and really be a rival for AC in Canada. Nice job!
Saw in the description that you ask for trip report ideas. Ever considered flying to the Faroe Islands with Atlantic Airways or the Scilla Isles on the Sky Bus? Awesome video. Impressive to get it out so quickly!
Paul! big fan, I actually saw you disembarking your inbound flight 8271 to Nanaimo. Wanted to say hi but my job got the best of me. Hope you enjoy the island!
I like how you can control the windows from the IFE system. Hopefully Boeing improved the design by allowing them to go completely dark. On older 787s the darkest setting allows for too much light to come in.
Thanks for this vid. I have been looking into flights to London from Calgary. I usually fly Air Canada but I found checking WestJet out that prices are about $2000 cheaper for same level ( lower bus class to London and Premium Economy back). Will give WestJet a shot this year.
We have often thought about going to Canada again, but having experienced terrible service with Air Canada and Transat, there now seems to be a good alternative airline- Westjet. Excellent review, as always.
Last year I flew WestJet from Edmonton to LGW. Nice to see the upgrade to 787. If I see you while you're in Alberta drinks are on me. We have family in YYC and YXH.
No. Air Force Two is normally a Boeing C-32 (Boeing 757). That was a Boeing C-40 Clipper (Boeing 737-700BBJ) of the USAFE 86th Airlift Wing based in Germany
What with grounding of the Boeing 737 Max 8 , the huge cost outlay for the new 787-9s, and their continued financial challenges, we hope West Jet can make the successful transition to Premium carrier without going bankrupt.
5 років тому+1
They are still grounded even in Canada, aren't they? Asking, because at 15:20, there is (I suppose) a 737-MAX parked at the stand, next to this Dreamliner.
Oh my! Awesome to see a report from Paul on WestJet, especially the inaugural transatlantic for the WS 789! Although the aircraft used for the inaugural was C-GUDH rather than C-GUDO that the cake said haha
I flew on Westjet round trip alone when I was 14. In 2015. Toronto-Calgary Round-trip. That was an age where I was allowed to fly alone without a WestJet company escort. On the 1st leg, before I went into the long line for security, I asked a group of Air Jamaica Cabin Crew walking there to show me where the front of the security line was, instead, the purser said "come with us!" and legit we skipped the entire line and i got in through the crew security check-in. LOL. They even walked me to my gate. They were so nice. I got to Calgary on time and it was a pleasant flight. On the return flight, I actually missed my flight LOL but instead of making me pay to take the next flight out, THE CHECK IN CLERK GAVE ME A FREE TICKET IN WESTJET PLUS! It was Row 3 Seat Bravo, back when westjet plus still had middle seats. I got to eat a ham and cheese crossaint sandwich with pringles and sprite, while watching films on the provided tablets! We landed in Toronto right after a thunderstorm and I had another fun flight! These two flights were so funny and it gave me great appreciation for Westjet. Now that Im older, I know I wont be treated as a little kid anymore (I had a young face for a 14 yearold boy back then) but I really like WestJet. This comment is true. Im not making it up lol. Cheers! Good video too!!
Very nice to see all other aviation youtubers (QFS!) here too :) What I really wonder though is, is that extra storage really valuable for regular passengers? I have never felt the need for so much storage if i can just access my bag above/below me and it seems to me like just too many little cupboards and hidden cabinets to be practical?
Hi! I have been enjoying watching all your videos since last year! I still remember my first take-off from Glasgow in 1971, heading for Lloret de Mar in a family holiday! Loved that feeling of speed! Fast forward to 1981 and we flew from Glasgow - Boston - New York - Washington - Memphis, arriving at the Holiday Inn late at night, with our 2 year old, absolutely exhausted! I wondered if you have ever done one of the small flights which we took the next day from Memphis to Pine Bluff?- or would consider doing it? - Quite the experience!

We strive for second best, as this takes the heat off us but for ice hockey we are the best. Great country with vistas that go on for ever and ever especially if you dive anywhere. Enough of my proud Canadian BS, great video and great presentation, well done.
Russia is also bordered by 3 oceans. If you count the Baltic as part of the Atlantic ocean.
Tom Hill if you count the Baltic which you can’t, if so then there is really only one ocean as all are related and surround all land masses.
Nice job!
Westjet did quite well, and with a friend in Edmonton I hope to fly with them. Love your reports Paul.
Great report Paul, I really do like how you present your flight reviews.
Oh wow and I subscribe to James too! Glad to see a collab. Cheers Paul!
Saw in the description that you ask for trip report ideas. Ever considered flying to the Faroe Islands with Atlantic Airways or the Scilla Isles on the Sky Bus? Awesome video. Impressive to get it out so quickly!
Great video! I’ve been waiting for this one to come out and you didn’t disappoint!

@@dindinprivate3477 are you daft?
Paul! big fan, I actually saw you disembarking your inbound flight 8271 to Nanaimo. Wanted to say hi but my job got the best of me. Hope you enjoy the island!
Glad you enjoyed our Canadian hospitality!
I like how you can control the windows from the IFE system. Hopefully Boeing improved the design by allowing them to go completely dark. On older 787s the darkest setting allows for too much light to come in.
It is not Boeing that makes the windows but Gentex: www.gentex.com/aerospace/aerospace-overview
Thanks for this vid. I have been looking into flights to London from Calgary. I usually fly Air Canada but I found checking WestJet out that prices are about $2000 cheaper for same level ( lower bus class to London and Premium Economy back). Will give WestJet a shot this year.
I've seen the 787 assembly line in Everett where they make these.
But the majority of them is made in South Carolina
I was looking forward to the WestJet 787 C class review :) Seems to be a great option and good to have a very balanced review from you!
Thanks Paul for one of the best reviews of a Canadian airline. The WestJet palette of colours is truly beautiful. Great video!
-Proudly Canadian!
YESSS FINALLY WESTJET YOU ARE INTERNATIONAL
Dumbin O'Malley WestJet has been international for years. They began flying to Europe in 2014 with flights to Dublin.
@@gerardacronin334 i didnt know srry
As soon as Westjet introduces the 787 on Toronto-Gatwick I'm in.
Same here
We have often thought about going to Canada again, but having experienced terrible service with Air Canada and Transat, there now seems to be a good alternative airline- Westjet. Excellent review, as always.
I love your ways to make these wondeful flight clips and rewies❤️❤️❤️👍
Last year I flew WestJet from Edmonton to LGW. Nice to see the upgrade to 787.
If I see you while you're in Alberta drinks are on me. We have family in YYC and YXH.
Excellent video as usual Paul. Your content and production quality just keep getting better and better. Well Done :)
That really annoys me that they put Glasgow somewhere near Stirling... 13:25
Ah yeah. I was looking through the comments to see if anyone picked up on that.
I’m flying with the 787 from Dublin can’t wait
Hope you got a nice look at the mountains! You should definitely visit Calgary during the Calgary Stampede!
WestJet is my favourite airline and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is one of my favourite planes!
7:19 Air Force Two?
No. Air Force Two is normally a Boeing C-32 (Boeing 757). That was a Boeing C-40 Clipper (Boeing 737-700BBJ) of the USAFE 86th Airlift Wing based in Germany
Yay been waiting months for this after seeing you say you were going to be on it 😀
WestJet, on a B787, to the best city in Canada? In America we call that: WINNING!!!
Hope you enjoy your stay in Calgary! Sorry about the cold..typically warmer this time of the year
Nice video and what a great colour scheme for westjet. Nice bed head hair as well😂
What with grounding of the Boeing 737 Max 8 , the huge cost outlay for the new 787-9s, and their continued financial challenges, we hope West Jet can make the successful transition to Premium carrier without going bankrupt.
They are still grounded even in Canada, aren't they? Asking, because at 15:20, there is (I suppose) a 737-MAX parked at the stand, next to this Dreamliner.
@ thats a 737 800ng with scimitar winglets. Most of westjets fleet have them. And yes the max is still grounded sadly.
Especially since the current federal government still funds Air Crapada, to try and stomp on other airlines. Shame.
'See you later' to a stranger. such a British thing - I do it the entire time.
Excellent trip report Paul... Thank you for sharing !!! :):):)
Talk about having the big hitters on one flight! Great video Paul.
Very nice to see all other aviation youtubers (QFS!) here too :)
What I really wonder though is, is that extra storage really valuable for regular passengers?
Great video! Westjet look really good! I might have to look at them one day for my flight to Portland!
