    Great video. Additional info:
    1. Wi-Fi is now free for all Krisflyer members regardless of class of travel as long as the number is on the boarding pass. But even if you forget to include it, you can simply ask the crew for a code and they'll happily provide it.
    2. Amenity kits are available upon request. The pouches come in 3 different colours as far as I know.

Ten years ago, we flew Singapore Business Class from Houston to Singapore back when they had a fuel stop in Moscow - they now stop in Manchester. The return trip took about 25 hours, and the absolute worst part was the 90 minute layover in Moscow. The seats were comfortable, and the food and service were outstanding.

My wife and I did this flight in 2004 in the Airbus A340 ER. Watching this really took us back. We could only afford Premium Economy so neither of us got any real sleep and it took days to get over the jet lag. But wow, what an amazing flight.
We flew from Singapore on a similar route to you but came back right over the Nth Pole. Well, within 200 miles of it.

@@LGVRhin-Rhone I don’t remember them specifying whether it was a 500 or 600, I remember it only having the designation ER to denote extended range. It was likely a special build like the current A 350 being used for the same route. Like the current route, it was only premium economy and business class, presumably to allow it to take on enough fuel without exceeding the maximum take-off weight for the type. It fairly lumbered up the runway on take-off.

    Great video Paul.
Have done SYD-YVR too many time to count and in every class and I would agree with most of your advice in getting through a long haul flight (though my longest is 16 hours not 18).
I would add 1) avoid caffeine (coffee, tea or coke) until you are about to land / wake up 2) pack something to knock you out - even just come cold and flu tablets 3) invest in some decent noise cancelling headphones and listen to ambient / white noise when trying to sleep 4) if you are flying economy, make sure you bring your own neck pillow, eye mask and some snacks and 5) lastly, never skip a meal!

Having flown Singapore Airlines in Business Class on the A380, 777 and A350, I can attest to the amazing service, quality of everything you encounter and that having a lie flat bed is the total game changer. I've done lots of long haul in Economy (LHR - AMS - BKK - SYD in one go for example or AKL - LAX, LHR - SFO, LHR - HKG) and it's brutal. Hence for my last long haul I decided to push the boat out for business class. It was worth every penny and more. In fact it made my trip so utterly amazing that the getting there and back is one of the highlights, rather than 'endurance to be born'. My book the cook favorite is Lobster Thermidor - absolutely bloody marvellous washed down with Chablis. Also Singapore Airlines Singapore Sling is delicious. I'm envious of you doing this trip - not for the getting to New York but getting to spend 18 hours in SQ J class!

WOW! 🤩 🤯 Simply the only thing I can say! What a MAGNIFICENT video Paul!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this one and I hope to fly Singapore Airlines someday, especially on this route “The World’s Longest Flight” ✈️ What a stunning sunrise view over Japan as well, also, at 25:10 you flew over Oshkosh Wisconsin where I will be in a few days for EAA Airventure 2024 and also you overflew my home state of Michigan!😂 I often see this flight from Singapore heading to New York and it just further wet my appetite to try it someday especially on the GORGEOUS Singapore 🇸🇬 Airbus A350-900ULR! 😅 I also loved the Clair De Lune song played at 24:00 onward very fitting for such a luxurious yet somehow calm and tranquil 10,000 mile flight!
    Cheers mate! 🥂
    Caleb’s Aviation
P.S. A tip of mine for long-haul flying, especially such a long-haul flight is simply to be prepared, doing things such as staying well hydrated, getting up to walk around throughout the plane, even in the air and making sure to look out the window and not just stared to TV for hours on end, there’s nothing worse for jet lag than an eye strain induced headache! 🤕

i took an economy flight from Paris to French polynesia Papeete Tahiti 3 years ago, with a one hour stop in Vancouver, so remaining seated for 24 hours.. with a mask on.. that was during covid travel ban. Strangely the excitation to go there didn't make the flights feel too long

Amazing trip, Paul. The food looked incredible. I assume they must carry a significant number of crew due to the distance (pilots and cabin crew can’t do 16 hours in one go, surely?)
I think the no amenity kit isn’t a bad idea as it saves on wastage.

Nice review. It's one of the flights everyone should take, but the seats aren't that comfortable (unless you have a bulkhead seat). Book the Cook is OK but very overrated. People normally get the Lobster Thermador. Having done the SIN-EWR, I took 24 hours to be human.

The seat cushion supports were broken and the seat wouldn’t recline but the person’s seat, in front of me, did. Couldn’t watch the screen as it was eight inches away from my face. Wife’s seat could recline but wouldn’t come upright when required. There were five other seats in our section which were the same, couldn’t be brought upright. Crew were nice enough but the food was ???

That's very consistent from what I've heard of reviews on the big 3 middle east carriers (Emirates, Etihad, Qatar), their business and first class is the best in the world, but their economy is awful. They don't care about their econ product because that's for "the help" coming in from India. They used to have a fleet of old shitty planes just for flights to/form India.

I am still not a fan of those flip down seats, I’ve taken that 18-hr flight a handful of times and I miss power seats that recline up/down and are not angled. Have done PE on this flight in the first row as well and that was actually pretty good and v good value since this flights main feature is getting there in one flight vs two. Please update the seats SQ! 🙏

singapore airlines are notorious for charging outrageous fares for flights originating from singapore.many singaporeans and local expats have been complaining about this practice for decades.the fact that you could fly to delhi from singapore on a low cost carrier then board a singapore airlines flight back to singapore then jfk for a fraction of the price of a singapore jfk flight would suprise nobody in singapore, complete madness.

Thanks Paul and for your tips. For short haul, in your opinion, is it better to opt for an early but pricier flight with no overnight transfer, or a later cheaper flight but with a pricey overnight hotel airport stay? It equals out about the same but do you think the overnight transfer makes for a more exciting trip?

I suppose that flight would be great for getting sleep in winter, it would be dark most of the flight. I can usually manage to get a little sleep on eastbound long hauls since they tend to be overnight, the "eternal afternoon" of westbound long hauls really throws me off. On my last trip to the UK, was surprised to not be jet lagged going out despite an 8.25hr flight then 4 hours of navigating UK rail to get out of London and to where we were staying in the UK. But was jet lagged to hell on the return trip back home.

    • @Paul_Lucas

I really don't like flying eastbound transatlantic - that's why very often if I go to the USA, I'll try to end up on the west coast to make the flight back as long as possible! Anywhere further east than Texas and I'm struggling with the short overnight flight times. (or I'll take the day flight from JFK)
