If this woman would have been killed, her death would absolutely be on the police department's hands 100% as a matter of fact, this entire ordeal is on their hands because she called for help NUMEROUS times and was turned away every time. They should be ashamed. This is exactly why so many women are abused everyday and don't report it because they aren't believed and then it makes the perpetrator act even worse! Shame on this department

Not turning back to drugs but helping others instead. A strong woman. Thank God her prayers were answered n the officer was there to help her. Indirectly helping others he never met as she is alive to help others.
Addiction is a serious disease. Once you are an addict it never goes away. You have to adapt to become sober again and live your life one day at a time. I am a recovering addict myself and today 6/15/23 make 6 years I’ve been sober. Today is also my dads birthday so I look forward to telling him happy birthday and that his son made it another year clean.
Your comment displays a lack of understanding of the Justice system. Criminal defense lawyers keep the judicial system in check and balanced. Without them, prosecutors could charge anyone with anything, locking people away for crimes they did not commit (more than they already do). I agree some defense attorneys make ridiculous arguments trying to defend obviously guilty clients, but this is not the case for all
@@katiejohnson7584 Plus they cant choose their client, sometimes you get clients that are obviously guilty and if you dont defend them to the best of your ability you are actually GUILTY OF A CRIME
Officer Chad is a rare gem in law enforcement, I went thru several scary nights, finally got my ex arrested. After a grand jury, they charged him with 42 counts of assault, his attorney , my attorney and the judge got together and dropped it down to one count and planned a fishing trip. I don’t trust the legal system anymore.
Michael is clearly an intelligent person. It is infuriating that he had many options in life but chose to go down this path. He had money and a wife that adored him which is more than most men dream of. He had already accomplished some of the biggest challenges in life and then to go risk everything for this?!?!? For what? This might be a case of someone being intelligent but having no common sense. It is so sad to see wasted potential. Thank god for police officer Chad Martin for having common sense and following his instincts.
I failed to observe any sign of intellect in his actions. He is a non cajun chasing a 1/2 cajun woman. He couldnt handle her, she left him and it he descended down the slippery slope of obsession. He was weak and had no business living south of I-10. Never swim in the ship channels.
Not all abusers and criminals are stupid, in fact there are some very smart people who commit horrible acts. Success in life has nothing to do with it. Michael clearly a violent disturbed person
Very heartwarming story. What a brave woman and who made tremendous strides to overcome such terrible circumstances. Your daughter is lucky to have such a strong Mom!
How cool is Schanda and her daughter? To have survived this ordeal and lived to tell about it...and then to open up their hearts to help others? And YES on that police officer!! Willing to risk the wrath of his wife to be late (again) just to do the right thing...
If more people took women seriously and ruled as this judge did in giving 35 years, maybe less men would feel entitled to lord over their partner's lives as though they owned them. Glad that he's in there for that long and I hope anyone like him sees the same.
I must admit I was elated with joy knowing those two kidnappers died in that water. The same swiftness of death should also been applied to her( pos ) husband. I hope she and her daughters remain safe and enjoy life.
Absolutely amazing how this all turned out. The fact that she was rescued that quickly is just amazing. I really hope her and her family are able to live life without this haunting them in any way.
I can't imagine better karma than what happened to those guys. At the start of the day they thought a woman was going to be dead and they would be a little bit richer, but it turned out at the end of the day they were dead.
Thank God she survived that horrible ordeal from her crazed and manipulative monster ex-husband! God must have heard her prayer while she was about to be assaulted and sent an angel in the form of that good police officer. Good thing too that the judge had seen through the dramatics of a psycho and gave him the maximum term of imprisonment. I admire Schanda for her brave spirit First time I'd seen a 48 Hrs. story with real happy ending.

@@amazing5392 Statistics show that full .5% of people with bipolar disorder are also sociopath
And his lying defense attorney is willing to say ANYTHING to get his murderous client off.
I had no idea this happened in my town. This is crazy. So glad she is safe
You will be surprised what happens in your town.
I am a little over an hour from Laffy
What a survivor. I pray for safety for Shaunda and her daughter and may that crazed man never gets out of jail.
*Schanda
Schanda is the emobiment of sober living by giving back and helping others with addiction problems.
Unlike her narcissist ex husband, Schanda thinks of others rather than focusing on herself.
All the best to her and her daughter.
That officer is the only one in that whole department that has my respect! Great instincts, he saw something off and he acted and because of that a woman is alive today and a psychopath is off the streets. Thank you sir for your hard work and dedication to do the right thing!
Thanks 48 hours, for making my Monday sooo much better!! ❤ Have a great week all my fellow True Crime fans!
Those who talk about defunding police should be ASHAMED
How I wish all of these cases had the same ending as Shonda's. I'm glad to see at least one case that has a survivor. Hopefully she is now able to live a normal life.
*Schanda
He says his sentence is too harsh? He traumatised his ex wife and kid, and two men are dead because of that. He is a monster.
The fact that his two hit men died should be recognized as a good thing.
@@ReligiousZombie Noted, however they would not have died had he not hired them, so their blood is on his hands.
Drugs destroys the brain.
@@carabiner7999 they did have a chance to correct their 1st mistake, to not run from police! So it’s their own choice, own fault!
@@liliivanova2920 True, yet you cannot say they would have even thought of kidnapping +, had it not been for him. If I serve you too much to drink and you die, do I get off scot free, even if you choose to leave without my knowing?
Wow 18 years sober, thats awesome ❤
AMAZING SO PROUD OF YOU!!
A prayer answered so fast.. the beauty of it n the response by God to all involved🙏
That cop saved her life. Thank God he was at the right place at the right time and his gut told him to pull them over. Otherwise, she wouldn't be here. I really wish they would've either locked him up for life with no parole or handed out a death sentence. Society is better off without men like him. The kidnappers got what they deserved. I was so glad they drowned and she didn't have to worry about them coming after her again...along with her evil ex-husband.
Wow the mug shots..!!!!!!!!😂😂😂
😮 just amazing that she was rescued almost immediately
Isabella is smoking HOT! 😮❤
She was/is truly blessed!
The crying during the deposition is so fake, switched on and off.
He got off so easy.
Her smile at the end towards her daughter is so full of gratitude and knowledge of how different it could be. 😢❤❤❤
I really appreciate David Begnaud being assigned this story. Someone who can pronounce South Louisiana names correctly! What a horrific situation to go through. I hope he stays in prison his whole term so Shaunda & her family can go on with life & be happy. I also hope he’s in the scuzziest prison in Louisiana.
That police officer …. Thank you . We need more like you
A cop of the year and an answer to prayer, what a winning combination.
Handley is one of the worst psychopaths. But I'm glad mother and daughter are safe and live to tell their story.
Mom and daughter are practically clones of each other, I can’t get over how much they look like each other. They’re also very strong and admirable women, I really admire them.
Also, someone else commented on your intro music. I agree, it’s perfect!
I don't see it. Mom has so much work done
What an amazing graceful lady and role model. May God grant her a long life of service to her community who need someone this special. May Schanda and her daughter be forever blessed.
A police officer that deserves respect. Proud of you sir for being an honest cop.
Who really set out to help a person and left them with their dignity intact. There are some good officers. Thank God
I smiled when I heard the current took care of them. Nature provided swift justice!
That officers wife will probably never yell at him for being late for dinner again. Proud family moment! A positive ending this time. ♥️
It’s amazing the stories that these defense lawyers come up with. They should quit their jobs and work as screen writers for some movie company.🙄
It CT
Hired them to move furniture in a van four foot long. Ridiculous
@@katiejohnson7584 I was thinking along your line but thankfully you said it accurately and better!!!
The young police officer actually saved the daughter also. She wouldn't be who she is now if her mom were murdered! So he saved 2 lives! Imho.
This lady has amazingly good karma and deservingly so. Her courage is inspiring.
It is so disturbing to see that such an evil person can compromise your safety and peace of mind with virtually no consequences.
I couldn’t imagine being this obsessed over another person.
Amazes me people still open their doors without knowing who is is on the outside.
I NEVER do. I have a hell hound that is at the glass window in .4 seconds. That usually does the trick 😂
Thank you 48hours for putting this full episode on
It’s extremely hard to get away from a dangerous rich stalker who wants revenge.
That officer getting emotional after meeting her again at the end is something which touches your heart and makes you feel I'm glad!!
Omg !! Can’t imagine what horror she went through in that van ! She is just so so lucky that cop felt like stopping that car ! God bless him 🙏🏻
Michael is clearly an intelligent person.
His mental diagnosis goes much deeper than “no common sense”.
Not all abusers and criminals are stupid, in fact there are some very smart people who commit horrible acts. Success in life has nothing to do with it. Michael clearly a violent disturbed person
🌻This is scary and regardless of whatever his problem is doesn't excuse him from plotting to have his wife kidnapped and murdered🌻
🌻 Love 48 hours 🌻
Very heartwarming story. What a brave woman and who made tremendous strides to overcome such terrible circumstances. Your daughter is lucky to have such a strong Mom!
Perfect example of why women don’t come forward to report abuse. Because even when you do, you aren’t believed. Sad.
Wow! This is an excellent cop!! We clearly don’t have enough of them!!!I hope he got a promotion!!!
Bad news
How cool is Schanda and her daughter? To have survived this ordeal and lived to tell about it...and then to open up their hearts to help others? And YES on that police officer!! Willing to risk the wrath of his wife to be late (again) just to do the right thing...
If more people took women seriously and ruled as this judge did in giving 35 years, maybe less men would feel entitled to lord over their partner's lives as though they owned them. Glad that he's in there for that long and I hope anyone like him sees the same.
48 hours delivers through and through. Thank you! Great episodes - great reporting.
Karma!!
Definitely however their is a lot of manipulation and deciet behind her pitch black eyes.
@@SidewaysInTraffic looks “medicated.”
ive been bipolar and on drugs and i would NEVER even think about doing anything close to this.. thats not an excuse
100% this
Thank God she survived that horrible ordeal from her crazed and manipulative monster ex-husband!
Absolutely the BEST 48 hours ever!
Gotta love seeing a malignant narcissist get their due!!
God bless this police officer, he saved a life with his intuition.
