Pentatonix and Home Free are the other two groups that fit that description. I don't know why we have so much talent these days - maybe as a backlash from all the boy bands and autotune?
I am in love with *Voice Play!* I am an Apache woman with black hair. Hearing this gorgeous rendition of "My Mother Told Me" inspires me to tell my spiritual sons and daughters to always *fight for what is right!* And oooooh, that BASS ❤️!
I love when we get to hear Layne sing. I mean he's an amazing vocal percussionist and blows my mind regularly. It's just really nice to hear his singing voice which is very pleasant too.
As a mother, and grandmother, I've always told my children to stand, and to fight, for what is right. Win, or lose, I am proud of them all. Much love and respect to *VoicePlay.* You bring the message to life with power.
It's hard to believe that a song where a single verse is repeated several times could be just GREAT! At first I didn't even notice that it was one verse repeated because each one was so different. Costumes and setting were wonderful.

I swear I'm 1 million of the 4.2+ million views. Bass hits you in the soul. Geoff hits your ancestors in the soul. There are Vikings in my family tree who just stood up in Valhalla and grabbed their axe.
Layne sounds more like an actual drumset every time. Also, I love how Geoff's subharmonic F1 imitates a horn resounding, maybe as a battle call or something
I don't know how y'all manage to constantly outdo yourselves, but you've done it again! I love everything about this, from the intricate, incredible harmonies, to the powerful percussion, to the costumes and makeup, to the gorgeous backgrounds. You all look very intimidating, but Eli managed to look downright terrifying with those facial expressions! 😮 Jose was a wonderful addition and blended so well with all of you. Thank you VoicePlay, for this wonderful work of art. Now, let's all raise a tankard of mead, and proceed to battle where we will hew many foe men! 😁💕
I have something to say: The thing that makes diference between Voiceplay and other a capella bands is the base of the songs. I love the work between Geoff and Layne. The 4 of you are genious!! And José with you sounds AMAZING!!!👏👏👏 I love the importance of the bass. You have a loyal follower and again, greetings from México.🖤
Amazing arrangement and even more amazing execution. I really loved the round/echo effect in the middle where they're all singing different lines or the same lines at slightly staggered tempos. Great to hear Layne in the harmonies this time, and then the way the beat dropped. Loved the elbow crash. I really loved Eli and J's harmonies and leads in this too. Geoff was the ocean and the oars, J and Eli the winds and the wave crests, Jose was the dragon figurehead cutting through it all and Layne was the steersman, the rowing drums, and the sounds of the rigging. The sheer theatricality was amazing too. Beautiful.
My jaw dropped when I saw this thumbnail. And multiple times throughout the video. My GOSH, you guys. I almost decided to wait and watch it with everyone else, but... come on, I couldn't wait for this! But man, they're gonna love it. I wish I could say as much as everyone else on here, because they've said it all better, but suffice it to say that you're about to get five hundred rewatches from over here! Possibly more comments, too. But seriously, what is WITH y'all doing songs I already loved but never would've expected, and then DESTROYING it in the best way possible?
THANK YOU GEOFF! the growl is so comfortable now that I sting super low bass. The growl is effortless and doesn't hurt my throat. Much love! Yes, I'm female. Used to sing alto, until I was extubated after a surgery more than 10 years ago. I have a connective tissue disorder and my chords just gave way. Now, instead of singing Ronstadt to Murray, I'm now in your range. Tried to learn Avi Kaplan, but while I could sing it, my throat hurt. With the growl, I can go a lot lower without any pain at all. Thanks.
I don’t know what the correct term/terms are, but Jose’s voice matches the guy’s full round rich tones so well. Your creativity to conceive the concepts and talent to bring them all to life is...wow, so good. Thank you for all the joy you bring. Enjoy your weekend. Stay safe and stay well. 😷😎✌🏻🤟🏻🖖🏻
I love how everyone has their theme in costumes and backgrounds here. Geoff's chilling in the forge, creating swords and axes and earthquakes. Layne and J look like fierce warriors ready to attack. Eli and Jose like the wise strategists, making the battle plans! Didn't knew the world needed Viking VoicePlay, but we absolutely did. Those hamonies... such a perfect arrangement by Layne and the make-up looks epic. Also Eli kinda reminded me of Floki from Vikings, great work on those backgrounds btw, man! Thanks to you guys for always brightening my days with music, it's so wholesome for the heart and soul.
The more I watch this, the more I love it. Wow. And chills at 2:14 every time. That energy! Eli really rocked this one, and his movements were so weirdly captivating. The trip-hop sound is fantastic as well. So hypnotic.
Geoff's Subhermonic's is the PERFECT sound for like the viking age. But it's also amazing to hear Lane sing for a bit, also Eli looks super mad in the video due to the makeup and I Love it so much. Keep it up you guys, also do a completion of Daft punk please
No, you're not the only one! I often wrote that I would love that Layne had more singing parts and I love this song so much 😍 (proof, I'm coming back to the vid months after it was released Ahah)
Everyone out there praising Geoff or Eli, rightly so, they're incredible and I absolutely adore them 💕 but I just want to say that Layne's singing gives me life. 😊
I don't know what's best - the vocals, the costumes, the makeup, or the sets. Maybe all? I commented on the patron release, but hearing this again, I had to come back and talk about how much I love it. I did not know the song and wasn't sure what to think before seeing it. Now I just keep rewatching. It is so satisfying. I love the dark tone, the attitude, and the haunting mood. Geoff looks like a forge god, Layne and J like berserkers, and Eli like a necromancer. They were all so good, but I have to comment on Eli's rock voice. When it comes out, it blows me away every time! Geoff, of course, is a wonder. J is so smooth. Jose fit in very well with everyone's skill and sound. And Layne killed the percussion, which is not a surprise. What was a spectacular surprise was his solo singing! I am always a fan when he sings. These guys are such a gift! 💜
After listening for about 20-30 times, I just realized that there's a sound of fire crackling on the background when Geoff sings his first part. Really, each time I replay, I find something new! VoicePlay, you never cease to amaze me!
There's actually some kind of background noise for the other members when they sing their first part, too - it's just more subtle because of their locations.
Welcome to the fandom! That guy is Eli (pronounced EL-ee, rather than EE-lie), and yeah, he's an amazing tenor. Got that great rock vibe to his voice, and can do runs like nobody's business.

Eli has Mortal Kombat “Your soul is mine” vibes
This is such an AMAZING rendition of this song! I am beyond blessed to have discovered VoicePlay! Thank you.
This is one of my favourites they've ever done
And this is just off of trailer alone lol!!!😂😂😂😂
@@the_gaminghyena it's been on patreon for a while to be fair, but honestly yeah, just the trailer alone is enough 🤣
Mine favorite is poto and this is halloween
You know what the funny thing is with voiceplay? With some vocal groups there is like this guy is fenomenal, that woman is also very good and the rest is okay. Not with voiceplay. Every. single. one. of you guys are fenomenal.
I totally and completely agree!
Pentatonix and Home Free are the other two groups that fit that description. I don't know why we have so much talent these days - maybe as a backlash from all the boy bands and autotune?
I was not going to mention them in here, but yes, thats very much the case.
@@gerritroseboom8621 You can mention them - they're all supportive of each other.
I know they didn’t win Sing Off but I bet now they’d beat home free and probably PTX too. No disrespect to them though.
Layne is very underrated, I love his voice.
I am in love with *Voice Play!*
I am an Apache woman with black hair. Hearing this gorgeous rendition of "My Mother Told Me" inspires me to tell my spiritual sons and daughters to always *fight for what is right!*
And oooooh, that BASS ❤️!
❤❤❤❤
Geoff casually sounding like a war horn.
He was trying to summon Jörmangander
I love when we get to hear Layne sing. I mean he's an amazing vocal percussionist and blows my mind regularly. It's just really nice to hear his singing voice which is very pleasant too.
Come for the bass. Stay, because they are all just so damn good.
As a mother, and grandmother, I've always told my children to stand, and to fight, for what is right. Win, or lose, I am proud of them all.
Much love and respect to *VoicePlay.* You bring the message to life with power.
I feel Jose Rosario Jr. fits this look and song perfectly
👍🏼
woah.. that low bass gives me goosebumps...
"sail to distant shoooreess". my soul was taken under ground
It's hard to believe that a song where a single verse is repeated several times could be just GREAT! At first I didn't even notice that it was one verse repeated because each one was so different. Costumes and setting were wonderful.
I'm pretty sure there's another verse in the old norse that wasn't used in the show, so it's often left out of many covers
Exactly! I thought the same thing. Each repeat so different and so marvelous.
It's actually a chant the vikings used.
@@anythingandeverything3987 to be specific, it's a poem by the berserker and Skald, Egill Skallagrimson, who wrote it at the age of 7 after killing a boy as a result of them cheating him in a game. While his father was upset, his mother said he would be a great viking, basically the first soccer mom

😂😂😂
Yes, there are excellent a capella groups out there, BUT there are two that pierce my heat like sharpened vocal arrows of fire. There is, in *my* experience, no competition in my heart for the two. They touch me equally.
*I love you guys with all my Apache soul.*
If I could, I would adopt you all as my sons, *All 5 of you!* Thank you *VoicePlay.*
ROCK ON!
You already know what sent me overboard....fantastic song!
Looking forward to your reaction! 😁
This is a great song. It’s an old Norse song from the beginning and VoicePlay have “VoicePlayed” it in a fabulous way. 👏😍🎶❤️ I love it. 💕🔥🎶💕
Even when you know damn well that Geoff is gonna drop some major bass, he will *still* surprises you with *HOW* he does it. Mother of Gods!!!
My god... everytime Geoff goes didgeridoo the hairs in my neck jump to the ceiling. His range is just out of this world. That being said... Every voice in this group is just amazing. This is by far my favorite version of My Mother Told Me so far. Bless you Voiceplay. Your music brings good feelings to many.
How is it that they can take such a simple song and turn it into something so epic? The ranges of these guys know no bounds!
2:36 Odin's beard, I felt that in my soul 😳😳😳
Great Merlin's Beard! 😳
I can't wait for the reactors to get ahold of this. I think the Charismatic Voice is going to need a smoke after some of Geoff's low notes
And Brad Steele is gonna call the exorcist!
Ken Lavigne will, in fact, need that spelunking gear.
She will definitely giggle and giggle and giggle - I sure did!
My first thought after "Damn, this is so badass!!" was "Dear God, Elizabeth MUST react to this!!"
I don't smoke but after those low notes I need a cigarette
The bass is great ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My 6yr old said "Geoff sounds like a bear is inside of him."
My brother-in-law sounds like that with a beer in him. lol
I think your 6 year old is right 😳😂
S@@IJustWantToUseMyName
Geoff will probably create an earthquake in this video. Can't wait
Probably=Hang on for dear life LOL
You were right
@@KingFamilyReacts can't wait to see your reaction on this
@@KingFamilyReacts I'm gonna miss the premiere...stupid work. But it's the first thing I'm doing after.
Replying so I can hear your reaction to this.
From bass to countertenor, but even countertenor is super masculine here.
I thought this was going to be the "Can't hurry love" song. But that is "My Mama said...". This is a nice surprise. Be sure to check out their singing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". It's so good, plus it has fun animations.
That’s what he’s supposed to be, a Viking warhorn
I've never tried subharmonics before, but when he hit that F1 I just had to try it. And it worked. Once. Now I can't seem to repeat it. Drat.
been listening to the guys for 2 hours, can't stop - symphony of voices - absolutely thrilled - the Bass ❤
My 9 year old is obsessed with "The Wellerman" I showed him this song and now he has a new favorite! Thank you Voiceplay and keep them coming!!!
This is really great. I think Jose was the PERFECT choice for SO.MANY.REASONS.
Hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship where are you from?
The singing, the costumes, makeup, lighting...everything spot on! Well done!
Многоголосие прекрасно исполнено! Идеальнейшие голоса! Благодарю!
I have something to say: The thing that makes diference between Voiceplay and other a capella bands is the base of the songs. I love the work between Geoff and Layne. The 4 of you are genious!! And José with you sounds AMAZING!!!👏👏👏
I love the importance of the bass.
Beautiful.
Eli! What a performance! Potent. Fantastic job, Layne. Everybody was great and compelling. Wow!
Hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship where are you from?
This bass... wow!
When Eli belted the chorus it gave me chills!
I just listened to this and my brain is going nuts!! Geoffs voice!!!!!!!! Like oh my gosh! How?! So cool! So excited for tomorrow!
Thanks.
I love the entire band to pieces....but bass gets me....Geoff makes me have chills every time he displays this depth.
OUT OF THIS GALAXY! This is the first song that I listened to! BRAVO!
I felt that bass in my bones. Amazing.
Mesye mwen felisite Nou anpil, paske Nou vrèman fò , aranjman yo nòmal e byen chita
Am I the only one who enjoys this in part because it's one of the rare times Laine actually sings? XD
Yes!!!!
Who is laine again?
@@jup1ther27 Layne is the beatboxer of VoicePlay, he's on the rightmost side of the video
O.O
Viking sea shanty?
That low note literally gave me chills! Awesome song, guys! And another wonderful video, you looked and sounded amazing!
My son listens to you guys to sleep ❤almost always this song.
They each have their own background noise at the beginning! 😊
This is pure perfection from start to finish.
Hello I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship where are you from?
All of your songs that you do are awesome
im new here so im sorry for not knowing their names but when the bald man reached those high notes, i felt shivers in the back of my neck SO GOOD
Welcome to the fandom! That guy is Eli (pronounced EL-ee, rather than EE-lie), and yeah, he's an amazing tenor. Got that great rock vibe to his voice, and can do runs like nobody's business.
GEOFF CASTELLUCCI Eil J None Eril Tony Layne STEIN
The whole performance was amazing, but I'm so utterly flabbergasted by the bass guy. OMG, that was on another level, he takes everything to another level.
Welcome to the world of Geoff Castallucci. BTW, he has his own channel that is amazing.
I had heard this song sung as a solo. How are they going to do this with five voices? This is how. Spectacular.
