I've actually not read those books. Had almost gotten around to it when the TV series began, and it went to the bottom of the "to read" pile. Might have to give the series a try now, if Martin has turns of phrase like that.
As a deep bass, it makes me so happy to hear a leading bass. When I was growing up, my voice could hit these same notes, but every teacher I had forced me to sing an octave higher to match the others in the choir. Happened so much that I dont think I can even do it any more, but now I have to practice and try to do it again It used to make me feel so unique cause I was a tiny little shit that could scare people by dropping the beat in the middle of a song
Patrick, you should be able to do it still! The voice usually deepens a little more with age. Just take a good enough breath. Lower notes let more breath out.
I never sang outside of church or karaoke a couple of times, but I loved to stretch out the low notes and heads would turn, wondering where the subwoofer was...one of our friends told us his kids called it my "monster voice" because it scared them. I would have sounded just like everyone else, but worse, if I tried to stifle that bass. Embrace the bass, brother.
I highly recommend you get the ability to sing as low as possible. It's cool to be able to sing high, but singing low is frickin terrifying. Especially if you're a female, but the name Patrick tells me you're probably male
My father had a beautiful bass voice and sang in our church chorus. My grandfather (his father) used to say that "His voice was so low, it could crawl out the door and bury itself under the well."
Many people are still discovering Geoff for the first time so this video will keep growing in numbers viewed, plus many fans keep coming back to hear it again and again. It's truly a fantastic experience to listen to this song.
I'm quite sure Tolkien is smiling wherever he is. This is exacly how I imagine that song when I read it the first time! Amazing arrangement. Deep and melodic voice. Handosme dwarves. This is a 10 out of 10!
Hilariously enough, it’s hard to tell if Tolkien would have liked this. He notoriously found most contemporary Lord of the Rings fans pretty cringe, and he thought that most fan works utterly failed to capture the depth and scale of his writing. I’m honestly not sure there were any adaptations he genuinely liked, and he sadly died long before Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies came out. I guarantee he would have loathed the Hobbit movies as a whole, and he would have despised how Thorin, Fili, and Kili were adapted. This adaptation of his song, though, he might have at least been ambivalent to, and in perspective, that’s an incredible compliment!
Lyrics: Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away ere break of day To find our long-forgotten gold The pines were roaring on the height The wind was moaning in the night The fire was red, it flaming spread The trees like torches blazed with light The wind was on the withered heath But in the forest stirred no leaf There shadows lay be night or day And dark things silent crept beneath Farewell we call to hearth and hall Though wind may blow and rain may fall We must away, ere break of day Far over the wood and mountain tall We must away! legend has it that his voice was heard throughout all of Gondor, Arnor, and Rohan; and all manner of creature bowed, wars came to a sudden halt, and even the Maia wept with emotion
This video is one of my favorite for a few reasons, but one thing that always trips me up is the realization that all four of them are Geoff. Like, he looks different enough in each costume that it takes a minute of looking for it to click that its all him. So not only does he have an amazing voice, he can pull of a lot of different looks too.
I feel like Bass/Low Bass singers never get the recognition they deserve. It‘s so refreshing to see a cover like this instead of all the tenor covers (who are also amazing on their own) 😍
There actually seems to be a resurgence of Bass and Baritone-Bass interest lately. I think people are just "over" high notes. Once you learn that high placements still allow for strong chest resonance with a good mix you then realize hitting those high notes is actually very easy. It's going low with enough resonance that is always hard. There is also a bit of a resurgence in interest with Contralto voices thanks to singers like Diana Ankudinova. Although she's a little different due to her harmonics, she doesn't need to use vocal fry to get subharmonics.
i always think this!! im pretty sure that Tolkien would be very satisfied whit the movies and songs about his work, its really sad that he didnt live to see this :(
@@pedromorgado5368 You know Eomer was on the org hunt not exiled from the land. And gandalf came with Erkenbrand not Eomer. And Elves didn't come help. There are lots lots of things that changed in the movie. So probably if Tolkien would see this, he would die again I suppose. @@MrsVenus oh man, i disagree kkkkkkk i prefer the movies than the books, but the books are amazing! yeah, there's a lot of changes in the history when you watch the movies, but, in general, I think movies are very faithful to the books! but its just my opinion...
I would love to hear the 20 minute or so version with ALL the lyrics: Far over the Misty Mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away, ere break of day To seek our pale enchanted gold The dwarves of yore made mighty spells While hammers fell like ringing bells In places deep, where dark things sleep In hollow halls beneath the fells For ancient king and elvish lord There many a gleaming golden hoard They shaped and wrought, and light they caught To hide in gems on hilt of sword On silver necklaces they strung The flowering stars, on crowns they hung The dragon-fire, on twisted wire They meshed the light of moon and sun Far over the Misty Mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away, ere break of day To claim our long-forgotten gold Goblets they carved there for themselves And harps of gold, where no man delves There lay they long, and many a song Was sung unheard by men or elves The pines were roaring on the heights The wind was moaning in the night The fire was red, it flaming spread The trees like torches blazed with light The bells were ringing in the dale And men looked up with faces pale The dragon's ire, more fierce than fire Laid low their towers and houses frail The mountain smoked beneath the moon The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom They fled the hall to dying fall Beneath his feet, beneath the moon Far over the Misty Mountains grim To dungeons deep and caverns dim We must away, ere break of day To win our harps and gold from him! The wind was on the withered heath But in the forest stirred no leaf There shadows lay be night or day And dark things silent crept beneath The wind came down from mountains cold And like a tide it roared and rolled The branches groaned, the forest moaned And leaves were laid upon the mould The wind went on from West to East; All movement in the forest ceased But shrill and harsh across the marsh Its whistling voices were released The grasses hissed, their tassels bent The reeds were rattling--on it went O'er shaken pool under heavens cool Where racing clouds were torn and rent It passed the Lonely Mountain bare And swept above the dragon's lair There black and dark lay boulders stark And flying smoke was in the air It left the world and took its flight Over the wide seas of the night The moon set sail upon the gale And stars were fanned to leaping light Under the Mountain dark and tall The King has come unto his hall! His foe is dead, the Worm of Dread And ever so his foes shall fall! The sword is sharp, the spear is long The arrow swift, the Gate is strong The heart is bold that looks on gold The dwarves no more shall suffer wrong The dwarves of yore made mighty spells While hammers fell like ringing bells In places deep, where dark things sleep In hollow halls beneath the fells On silver necklaces they strung The light of stars, on crowns they hung The dragon-fire, from twisted wire The melody of harps they wrung The mountain throne once more is freed! O! Wandering folk, the summons heed! Come haste! Come haste! Across the waste! The king of friend and kin has need Now call we over the mountains cold 'Come back unto the caverns old! Here at the gates the king awaits His hands are rich with gems and gold The king has come unto his hall Under the Mountain dark and tall The Wyrm of Dread is slain and dead And ever so our foes shall fall Farewell we call to hearth and hall! Though wind may blow and rain may fall We must away, ere break of day Far over the wood and mountain tall To Rivendell, where Elves yet dwell In glades beneath the misty fell Through moor and waste we ride in haste And whither then we cannot tell With foes ahead, behind us dread Beneath the sky shall be our bed Until at last our toil be passed Our journey done, our errand sped We must away! “Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick.”
I always fondly remember the old animated The Hobbit. Where this part is instead between Gandalf and Bilbo, that find 'just once...' always stuck with me.
I see a pattern here... After noticing that loading Sixteen Tons wasn't much of a challenge anymore, The Geoff quadruplets took things up a notch and dug their way down through the mines so much they ended up in Middle Earth amongst the best miners of all, Dwarves, who saw them as kin. Tank Top Geoff on the right was rewarded with a mithril Tank top for his skills to go deeper and deeper without stirring ancient demons awake. Actually, the Balrog in Moria got utterly curbstomped by one of Geoff's chest-fry notes, and Saruman took notes because he found this man had a more compelling voice than he did. Anyway, awesome work as usual!
I love the old songs like this. Coming from an Irish, Celtic and German family you don't her this type of music anymore and nobody has the voice like you do.
No kidding. Sopranos can shatter glass? Well, Basses can make the earth shake. There's just something that hits you right in the spine and sends goosebumps all over your body when you hear a great bass voice.
I never heard anyone say that high pitched notes are beautiful. When I listen to something like Alvin and the Chipmunks I immediately wanna rip my ears off. But I never heard anyone complain about too much bass in music. Unlike high pitched, squeaky sounds, low pitched sounds never seem to hurt anyone's ears.
@@theilluminati682 Yeah, I've never cared for Alvin and the chipmunks, but sopranos can sound make a beautiful high note. That being said, I agree entirely with you. I've never heard of a bass singer causing ear damage
I'm sensitive to to high pitch noises but I can listen to a deep ass voice all day. Voice can shake the ground around him. Don't need a good pair of lungs, just need vocals made of tectonic plates
This is the first thing I heard Geoff sing. I found it while just looking for the original version of this song, and I haven't looked back since. I've always loved bass, and hearing his voice brings a calm to me. Greatest voice I've ever heard come from anyone.
I consider myself to have a voice deeper than most people. Then I hear this, and become depressed because I sound like a soprano compared to this guy, and at the same time I'm proud for him. Great voice! Great adaptation of this beautiful song!
I completely get it and feel the same way, but it's important to remember that Geoff is exceptional in the traditional use of the word. He is an exception to the normal, and we're lucky enough to have our own talents and to get to listen to his!
Whats really ridiculous is I only have a couple notes MAYBE on his upper range. I'm a girl. This guy can do a chest G1 and still meet my high end. He's a wonder.
When I was a boy, I saw the animated Hobbit and became fascinated by the Dwarves and their songs. It led me to a lifelong love of Tolkien's works. As an adult, I saw the Hobbit films and was enraptured again by the wonderful sounds of the Dwarves chanting and singing. Yesterday a friend told me of the tragic death of Orson Bean, the beloved voice of Bilbo Baggins in the animated Hobbit, back in 2020. He was the last of the voice cast from it still alive. But now he is gone, leaving a great hole in my childhood memories. Then I heard this amazing version and was moved to tears by the obvious love and respect his performance conveys. Thank you Jeff for giving a little bit of that old joy and wonder back that we felt so long ago. Peace and long life to you, my friend.
Yes, to comment on his depth and low voice is one thing. But please talk about the arrangement as it is pure magic. To be able to have true artistry in a very dark song is nothing short of amazing. Well done
Reminds me of the Mongolian/Siberian throat singing - deepest sounds produced by men that I've ever heard. These voices vibrate through your body and soul.
I discovered this around a year ago and it's still my favorite version of this song. The music and background vocals move over the words so beautifully and dark. The driving sweeping rocking drum is simple but very effective, it's powerful and very fitting. I don't know who selected the the additional lines from the poem but I haven't heard the second half sung to this music anywhere else. They're some of the darkest, and most mysterious verses in the original piece by Tolkien. Whoever made that choice, it was brilliant. I'm happy this got more attention than the movie soundtrack version, not to knock it at all cause it's amazing and the reason we have this composition/melody for these words but it's way too short. This version feels so much more complete. *(Some of my musical terms may be incorrectly used)
This was the last song I showed my brother before he passed and he made me sing to it. The hobbit and the Lord of the rings. Thank you for helping me put a smile on his face.
My deepest sympathies for your loss, friend! Glad you were able to share one last moment with him with something you both clearly held dear. Prayers for your brother, you, and your family!
His low bass should be the sound of the universe…His voice is so comforting like a mug of hot chocolate and a soft blanket on a cold winter day… it covers you softly and fills you with warmth…. Geoff Castellucci god bless you! 💖✨
I feel the same about the cello. It should be the sound of the universe. These low notes and the cello low notes, I always say, are the same vibrations of my soul.
I am kind of at the lowest low of my life right now. But I've got this song to turn to. My comfort song. When I feel insignificant and small in front of my problems, this song makes me feel that I am part of something larger than life, I am made for better things, and there is victory at the end of my quest❤
I hope things turn around for you soon, and while i don't know you I hope a comment from a random stranger will help raise you a little. Stay safe and tackle those problems one small step at a time.
Knowing that elephants use infrasound to track each other over tens of kilometers, I am forced to assume that immediately following this recording the studio was trampled by all the elephants come to swear allegiance to their new king, Geoff...
Apart the deep voice, i absolutely love the arrangement, style and the display of techniques that Geoff brings to play with intensity ! He was made for this period This one pulled me in to the uncharted depths of bass which i never knew could be sung, now i stand corrected 🎉

2:28 damn I got so used to Peter Hollens singing that part high I was subconsciosly expecting it to sound the familiar way but got the ultimate bass drop and waves of shivers instead
OK, so we’ve had the Peter Hollens version. We’ve had the Peter Hollens with Tim Foust version. We’ve even now had the Geoff Castellucci version. When will there be a version with all three? (Possibly with Avi as well, although our 3 favourite basses singing together would break the internet!)
OK, SEE, I have been saying they need to come together for this!!! Geoff, Peter, Tim, Avi, Chance, and Matt(PTX- giving him a chance to be with the big boys) Now, I do believe that it is time for the plates to shift so the World can shape up and fall in line.
@Kayla McClellan yes, exactly, they each have their own talents and uniqueness to bring to the proverbial table, don’t they? One isn’t better than the other than the other.
That last "daaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy", and where he hit on "shadows LAAAYYYY", that wasn't a human voice. That was some hell beast rising from the Earth, to look around and......eat Tokyo, or something. I wanna do that. Every time I go that low I sound like the Claw. Geoff is hitting super low notes, and I'm over here like "NEXT TIME, GADGEEEEEEEETT!"
I swore I wouldn't compare this to Tim and Peter. I tried, really I did. But you have to understand that there were so many layers you could feel the mist on the mountains. Technically, it was a good performance. Some of the low bass felt out of place like it was just thrown in there for shock value. But I get that with a lot of his music, so I know it's more of a personal preference.
@@sjenny5891 I can see where you are coming from. Sometimes Geoff drops a bit when he could go up the octave instead. I personally have no problem with this Song, I think it's great. But like you said it is just personal preference
I used to not be happy having a baritone/bass vocal range because all my favorite singers where tenors and i wanted to be a tenor, but discovering geoff castelucci and time foust has made me happy with my voice. i can't quite match their range yet but im working on it.
yet, I'm kinda unhappy with my baritone (some people say bass) voice, because people I listen to a lot and sort of look up to are likes of Geoff, Tim and Eric Hollaway... I know that I'm still young and it will probably get lower and more "bassy", but still 😕
@@nightspicer actually, that’s also me. The way Geoff hit that chest G1 in this song had me so hype but also so sad because I can’t do that right now and it sucks a lot :/
@@silentraven9561 you'll get there eventually, with age and practice. When I'm really on, I can hit a solid chest B1 similar to how Geoff hit his G1, and even just a year ago my C#2 was kinda shaky, so it's just a matter of time for you (and constant practice, using this song or other bass covers as practice for solid pitch I've found is really helpful)
OMG! Your voice is amazing! I may be old, but your voice still thrills me. I’m so glad you are making yourself and your your talent available for us to enjoy.
There may be a few guys who can sing lower subs, but none of them have Geoff's rich, honey-toned chest voice. His resonance is insane. Notice he hits that low G-1 two, maybe three different ways. The first and third are either growl or sub, and the second one pure chest. Honestly, he's just showing off at this point, and more power to him! The costumes, setting, and arrangement are beyond fantastic. This is among the most beautiful tunes I have ever heard. Thank you, Geoff.
Geoff: " I hope you enjoy this somewhat lower version of 'Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold'". Me: "But the original song is already low. My God, this man has infinite range..."

Geoff has perfectly captured that deep, dark, old, authentic sound that seems so right for Misty Mountains Cold. You can literally *feel* the heavy gravitas the song has here. @@kilodeltawhisky1504 I think they refer to The Hobbit or one of the Lord of the Rings spinoffs. Never saw any of them, but I deduced it from some other comments. Follow the man and enjoy all his other work.
This song is from the first film in the Hobbit trilogy, which is called: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The actors playing dwarves in the movie sing this just before setting out on their journey. Honestly the movie version is fantastic, but this cover is better in my opinion.
There's genuinely a part of me that wishes this was the style the movie went with. I could easily see this sort of super-deep singing being a hallmark of a fantasy species like the Dwarves of Middle Earth - a people generally broad of chest and deep of voice seems like an ideal species to have lean into the bass end of singing. Also, while it's been long enough since I worked in a mine that I no longer remember, I think deep sounds carried better underground, which would make it a good choice for a species known to be fond of subterranean dwellings. ...Though that could have just been that it was more capable of penetrating the earplugs we had? Personally I like the idea of making fantasy species more distinctive from humans than just "they're short and stout and like digging" and giving them a distinctive musical tradition seems like a good cultural angle. And...sure, you could go for something totally alien sounding, but that's likely to just sound jarring and unpleasant, which is not the goal here. You'd want something distinctive that fits other aspects of the culture and still sounds good, all of which this piece achieves. (Indeed, I also have a much more succinct argument for using this version: it sounds substantially better!)
Did you miss the entire first movie then? They sang all the time. as soon as they invaded bilbo's house they started singing while cleaning dishes and then when he said that he wouldn't join them they sang misty mountain.
@@ling2186 I....know? My comment is about how much better of a choice this style of deep vocal a capella might have been, compared to the song as performed in the movie. Because the Dwarves of the Tolkien universe (and pretty much every other fantasy world) are not human, it makes sense to give them a unique musical tradition. This could have passed for that. The song in the movie does not. (I'm finding myself constantly having to choose my words carefully here, because I by no means want to suggest that the singers of this piece are somehow inhuman. But human music has to suffice unless we can find actual dwarves and ask what their music is like....this does not seem probable in the immediate future. So something a little more unique and special would have worked better. IMO. But then, there's a lot of things that would have worked better in the Hobbit movies.)
WAIT, this is one person?? I just came across this video and never heard of him. It took me 5 times to realize it was the same person singing hahaha. This is very cool!

True basso profundo. Absolutely spellbinding. As a singer myself, I respect the amount of diaphragmic control you had to hold these notes, let alone sing them.
Rose of Sharon is correct. The fact he has an higher upper register than some bass singers does not mean he’s a bass-baritone. The requirement for basso profundo is the ability to hit the second C below Middle C (whereas a normal bass can hit the second E below Middle C). I GUARANTEE this guy hits that or even lower. He’s what Opera would term a “Voice of God” basso profundo, as classical operas which had a role for God put the part “in the basement register” to make it sound - well - god-like 😆 Not many of those operas can be performed nowadays, because there aren’t many basso-profundi around to sing the key role.
@@SgtKenway He chests a G#1 here (which is 4 half steps below the second C below middle C, or C2), qualifying him as far better than a basso profundo according to your specifications. However, in the bass world many people argue that a more true definition of basso profundo is someone that can project an G1 or A1, ie sing it at fortissimo (this is because a lot of people can chest C2 with very little power and don't really deserve the title of "the lowest singers on the planet") With this new ruleset, Geoff Castellucci qualifies more as a contrabass - ie a person that can hit the notes of a basso profundo, but with less power than one. He is still my favorite bass singer, but if you ever have the time, search out "russian oktavist singing". Their power will blow your mind.

The man with the world record biggest vocal range is able to create such low notes, they can only be measured, they cannot be not heard with the human ear. I have so much respect for people who are able to sing low notes. For a countertenor I have a above average vocal range, but I can't go lower than just below the average male voice 😭
We use special voice techniques to go lower than our natural range. My comfortable lowest note is a C2. Using other techniques like subharmonics I can get down in the C1 to C2 range.
He's simply amazing. I get the chills every time I hear Geoff sing. And not only is he an incredibly talented singer, he's also so musically talanted, doing so much work himself both for his own productions and VoicePlays. Hope we will have many many more incredible covers from Geoff!

I cant help but think "and you wanted to be baritone"... you have such strength and resonance on low notes, your ability to move between subharmonic and full throat voice is unparalleled. Avi Kaplan has beautiful range and low notes (some growl), Tim Foust has undisputedly the best growl notes I've ever heard, but your resonance with subharmonics and transitions into/out of subharmonics is unmatched... I can't find a single person, opera or otherwise, that has the control you do between full throat and subharmonics, and the sound you produce in subharmonics is so rich... just.. just wow

If Geoff's voice went any deeper he would awaken the Balrog.
He could KILL a Balrog with that. If he would say something like "You shall not pass" with that voice, moria itselve would break down over the Balrog
He is a bass tone singer. But he is off the charts for the bass tone singers toning charts.

@@matthewclayton9780 He's smiling in Heaven.
OMG that was awesome. I will just keep playing it over and over.

Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To find our long-forgotten gold
The pines were roaring on the height

The trees like torches blazed with light
The wind was on the withered heath
But in the forest stirred no leaf
There shadows lay be night or day
And dark things silent crept beneath
Farewell we call to hearth and hall
Though wind may blow and rain may fall
We must away, ere break of day
Far over the wood and mountain tall
We must away! We must away!

You're right, all this time I've been wondering who were the three dudes he guest featured in the song 😂

Far over the Misty Mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away, ere break of day
To seek our pale enchanted gold
The dwarves of yore made mighty spells
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep
In hollow halls beneath the fells
For ancient king and elvish lord
There many a gleaming golden hoard
They shaped and wrought, and light they caught
To hide in gems on hilt of sword
On silver necklaces they strung
The flowering stars, on crowns they hung
The dragon-fire, on twisted wire
They meshed the light of moon and sun
Far over the Misty Mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away, ere break of day
To claim our long-forgotten gold
Goblets they carved there for themselves
And harps of gold, where no man delves
There lay they long, and many a song
Was sung unheard by men or elves
The pines were roaring on the heights
The wind was moaning in the night
The fire was red, it flaming spread
The trees like torches blazed with light
The bells were ringing in the dale
And men looked up with faces pale
The dragon's ire, more fierce than fire
Laid low their towers and houses frail
The mountain smoked beneath the moon
The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom
They fled the hall to dying fall
Beneath his feet, beneath the moon
Far over the Misty Mountains grim
To dungeons deep and caverns dim
We must away, ere break of day
To win our harps and gold from him!
The wind was on the withered heath
But in the forest stirred no leaf
There shadows lay be night or day
And dark things silent crept beneath
The wind came down from mountains cold
And like a tide it roared and rolled
The branches groaned, the forest moaned
And leaves were laid upon the mould
The wind went on from West to East;
All movement in the forest ceased
But shrill and harsh across the marsh
Its whistling voices were released
The grasses hissed, their tassels bent
The reeds were rattling--on it went
O'er shaken pool under heavens cool
Where racing clouds were torn and rent
It passed the Lonely Mountain bare
And swept above the dragon's lair
There black and dark lay boulders stark
And flying smoke was in the air
It left the world and took its flight
Over the wide seas of the night
The moon set sail upon the gale
And stars were fanned to leaping light
Under the Mountain dark and tall
The King has come unto his hall!
His foe is dead, the Worm of Dread
And ever so his foes shall fall!
The sword is sharp, the spear is long
The arrow swift, the Gate is strong
The heart is bold that looks on gold
The dwarves no more shall suffer wrong
The dwarves of yore made mighty spells
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep
In hollow halls beneath the fells
On silver necklaces they strung
The light of stars, on crowns they hung
The dragon-fire, from twisted wire
The melody of harps they wrung
The mountain throne once more is freed!
O! Wandering folk, the summons heed!
Come haste! Come haste! Across the waste!
The king of friend and kin has need
Now call we over the mountains cold
'Come back unto the caverns old!
Here at the gates the king awaits
His hands are rich with gems and gold
The king has come unto his hall
Under the Mountain dark and tall
The Wyrm of Dread is slain and dead
And ever so our foes shall fall
Farewell we call to hearth and hall!
Though wind may blow and rain may fall
We must away, ere break of day
Far over the wood and mountain tall
To Rivendell, where Elves yet dwell
In glades beneath the misty fell
Through moor and waste we ride in haste
And whither then we cannot tell
With foes ahead, behind us dread
Beneath the sky shall be our bed
Until at last our toil be passed
Our journey done, our errand sped
We must away! We must away!
We ride before the break of day!

This is the first thing I heard Geoff sing. I found it while just looking for the original version of this song, and I haven't looked back since. I've always loved bass, and hearing his voice brings a calm to me. Greatest voice I've ever heard come from anyone.

I completely get it and feel the same way, but it's important to remember that Geoff is exceptional in the traditional use of the word. He is an exception to the normal, and we're lucky enough to have our own talents and to get to listen to his!
I'm a lyrical baritone and can sing and speak somewhat low, but when I hear Geoff I think that my lowest notes are like normal notes of tenor altino

I didn't know where Geoff found the other three men who look like him and also have a low voice.
Perhaps they are all brothers?
They gotta be Clamavi De Profundis. We have never seen them and they are brothers. I just didn't know Geoff was the fourth.

I am pretty sure he is hiding information that he came from qadruplets. Those others are Goff, Jeff and Joff
First is sub, second is chest, third is breathy chest 🙂

Nice name, but the reason for saying what he sang is because it's a much longer song then that
Thing is.. each guy in the video is Geoff in costume
@@DavidFailsYT Yeah that's the artist's whole thing, he sings with different recordings of himself and splices it together to make harmonies. Another guy I can't remember does it too Peter something or whatever but same idea

Great job, Geoff!
Absolutely stunning! Now THIS is the way this song is supposed to sound, and the way it should be heard. Geoff has perfectly captured that deep, dark, old, authentic sound that seems so right for Misty Mountains Cold. You can literally *feel* the heavy gravitas the song has here. This is the version that should be in the movie.
What movie? This just came up on my feed and without a sound hit all the right "notes" to keep me interested...😽
@@kilodeltawhisky1504 I think they refer to The Hobbit or one of the Lord of the Rings spinoffs. Never saw any of them, but I deduced it from some other comments. Follow the man and enjoy all his other work.
@@kilodeltawhisky1504 The Movie this song is from is called The Hobbit, which is based off one of J.R.R Tolkien's works
This song is from the first film in the Hobbit trilogy, which is called: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
The actors playing dwarves in the movie sing this just before setting out on their journey.
Honestly the movie version is fantastic, but this cover is better in my opinion.
You guys should see the hobbit movies
This is gorgeous!!! I love that you used more of the verses of the song as well!!! Absolutely lovely 🏔️
Agreed I was thinking about the same thing
Elephants!
They were still pretty deep…just not this much.

True basso profundo. Absolutely spellbinding. As a singer myself, I respect the amount of diaphragmic control you had to hold these notes, let alone sing them.
Bass-baritone with excellent technique and very talented, not basso profundo.
@@danielgoncalvespereira6534 Thank you for correcting me ! :)
Pretty sure he has stated that he is a bass baritone with bass range, very impressive

I cant help but think "and you wanted to be baritone"... you have such strength and resonance on low notes, your ability to move between subharmonic and full throat voice is unparalleled.
