Im an Apache, Cherokee, and Mohawk son. The cultures of the vikings and the native americans are so different and yet so similar. Im captivated at the fact that hundreds of years ago our peoples once interacted and even had mutual respect for each other in most instances. Even today, I see comments all the time of natives and people of Norse descent praising each other and admiring each others cultures and how much we really have in common. I love this song and Im amazed at this rendition of it.

Alina's cover is the only female version that sounds like she is on the adventure and battlefield with the vikings. Her versions are always more visceral (spelling edit), more like a person on the battlefield than a poet talking about it generations later.

Фактически Харальд жил раньше Эгиля, был плюс-минус ровесником отца Эгиля - Грима, и вису эту мог услышать лишь совсем в глубокой старости, хотя даже это сомнительно. А Эгилев род Харальд не любил, т.к. был у него конфликт с дядькой Эгиля, затем массовая ссора со всей семьей Эгиля. Ну и на последок, когда предки Эгиля тикали из Норвегии в Исландию, от этого самого Харальда, по пути они вцепили корабль, на котором из Англии двое малолетних сыновей Харальда возвращались домой к папке, и вырезали там всех, под ноль. По этому мне показалось, что любое напоминание Харальду о представителях этого рода должно быть как ножка стола для мизинца на ноге.

The execution is so believable and immersive, it forces you to add a story to her voice. Lyrics don’t necessarily carry weight, execution of said lyrics does.

I was a little surprised she played the hurdy-gurdy, rather than the nyckelharpa. I have seen one of those "bowed lyres" before, it's a Finnish instrument called the Jouhikko.
