I suspect that the sounds you pointed out Layne making are an ingressive phonation technique. While Layne is known to apply some minor effects to vocal lines (Elizabeth Zharroff at the Charismatic Voice does a very cool interview with Layne regarding his production and engineering of VoicePlay tracks; you would probably understand it better and get a lot more of it than I did, but it was fascinating regardless), I've also heard him produce really unnatural sounds similar to those on candid videos, so he's definitely capable of some of them. Whether he's layered several tracks of his percussion, I couldn't say with certainty, but I think it's likely, especially in the second instance you pointed out.
As someone who beatboxes, I can confirm. The way to do it is a fluttering of the soft pallette/back of throat, then throw in alittle hum to kinda resonat it, and then using your lips to give the correct sound out of it. Atleast thats how I have done similar sounds.
Eli is my favourite in this performance . He embodies the character so well and you can hear the rock star quality he has. My opinion only because I know jack about vocals.

Layne doesn't have an accent - he's born and raised in Florida. However, while all of Voiceplay is INCREDIBLE at character voices, Layne seems to specialize in doing accents. He does a comedic over-exaggerated French accent in both The Little Mermaid Medley and You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch. I'm not 100%, but I think I heard in an interview once that the "war horn" noise Geoff is making had some layering done on it to provide the effect. He's not actually doing any multiphonics or throat singing there. (Though he is capable of multiphonics! He does some in the middle of "Kidnap the Sandy Claus")
There's definitely a little post-production done on Geoff's voice to emphasize the overtones, but he's doing an F1 subharmonic there. He does something similar live in his Singing REALLY LOW vid on his personal channel around the 6:35 mark (also F1).

If you do the same thing while breathing you will start to purr
6:36 his using what we call in the beatboxing world a clickroll with a little bit more air and kch snare at the end and they add effects on that clickroll so it would pop more reverb and stuff
If I'm not mistaken, Geoffs bellow at the start is meant to symbolize Gjallarhorn, the horn that Heimdallr holds that can be heard throughout the realms that he will blow as the Giants approach at Ragnarok

or maybe its still a clickroll and kch snare at the end one of those are possible or both or it might just be his special sound but i dont think so
you should react to Bjork All is Full Of Love Live in New York. She has some of her best vocals during this performance
If I'm not mistaken, Geoffs bellow at the start is meant to symbolize Gjallarhorn, the horn that Heimdallr holds that can be heard throughout the realms that he will blow as the Giants approach at Ragnarok
You need to check out road trip from Voiceplay it’s got 2 old members in it but the humour is fantastic x
If you liked this song by Voice Play then please do a reaction video of Voice Plays version of The Dragonborn Come. Geoff is off the charts amazing. They all are amazing as always.
saltatio mortis did a version of this song thats pretty dang awesome
If you haven’t already you should definitely check out their new video Hoist the Colours
That was Awesome but you should really react to the latest cover for misty mountains by Geoff castellucci it will be amazing
Watch the interviews on The Charismatic Voice with Layne and Geoff.
This might seem random but, I recently saw a video where you said that you enjoy when people make non-traditional sound with their voice. On that note, try Sam Perry. A Looper form 5he Voice Australia.
You should check out The Hound + The Fox ft Adam Chance version of this, so different but just as amazing. Such smooth harmonies in that one, their voices merry well.
I would really like to hear you react to Voiceplay’s “Hoist the Colours.”
My own personal opinion is that it is one of the most well-constructed and well-executed vocal performances ever. Every time I listen, it leaves me sitting in silence and marveling over what I just heard!
"Geoff what are you doing?" sums up the feeling of every fan every time he runs to the basement lol
I recommend listening and reacting to any of codfish's performances, he is an incredible beatboxer from Australia, if anyone has something particular in mind please leave it in here.
I think his original song Sail With Me would be most interesting in terms of vocal technique analysis.
There is another "My mother told me" interpretation fresh out. From Saltatio Mortis, worth checking out.
I totally recommend you check out their new Hoist the Colours or Geoff's House of the Rising Sun that just recently dropped
Hey. I don't know if you'll see this or not, but there's this girl, Emma Robinson. And she has the most unique way of singing I've ever heard. It's like she's got built in autotune. I guess it's some sort of yodeling type.. thing. But taken to an extreme. She's got lots of songs but her cover of Hallelujah and Titanium are some good examples. Would love to hear a professional like you to give your take on it
Did you see that Geoff put out a version of Misty Mountains? I'd love to see you react to it... crazy good!
I couldn't really say how the noise at 6:55 was made, I always figured it sort of sounds like if you were inhaling with water in your mouth.
