I had the cable problem on my 2019 RAV4 Hybrid LTD and it cost me $5691 to repair. My car was less than 3 years old but I had 51k miles. The hybrid warranty did not cover the repair even though the alert on my app stated that I had a malfunction in the hybrid system. A class action complaint has been filed in the U. S. also and includes the following vehicles:

The Americans and Koreans have been trying to bring down Toyota ever since they became the top selling car giant, and they'll keep trying to bring down Toyota. My wife bought a new model Toyota in 2014 and hasn't had one issue with it, and neither was it recalled for any malfunctioning parts. Of course, products such as cars and other major machinery that get mass produced, there's going to be a small percentage of defects, but it happens once in a blue moon for Toyota as its management focuses exclusively on quality and perfection, and is the only car company that can talk the talk and walk the walk.
I myself have always been a Nissan fanboy as I've owned about five Nissans: Two Fair Ladies--1985, 1993, respectively; a Datsun B510; a Nissan 1998 March (sold only in Japan); a 2002 Infiniti I-35. I never had any major mechanical problems with either of the aforementioned automobiles. FYI.

I have a 2021 Rav4 Prime SE. I live in the California Bay Area and checked out my cablegate and it is fine after 1 year and 17k miles. For preventive maintenance I put dielectric grease in the cablegate cover around the wiring and put a duct tape around the opening. I don't see this as being a problem for owners in warmer areas where there is no road salts. I will check on it from time to time.

I saw a video where the connector is located. I would go under the SUV and clean the cable exterior well to remover all dirt and corrosion. Then I would shoot a big glop of hi temperature silicone all over both ends of the connector and part of the cable. It would then be very hard for water or salt to get into there. If you need to disconnect, the RTV comes off easily. Easy fix and not to worry about future fights with Toyota. Also never buy the first or second year of a new generation of a car. Let them work out all the bugs first, hopefully by the third year.

Toyota replaced the cable and harness to the rear motor of our 2020 Rav 4 in October, 2023, at no cost to us. The vehicle had 75,000 kms, we live in Nova Scotia.
    Hopefully, the problem is solved...

I live in Nova Scotia, and have a 2020 Rav4hybrid. I had the "hybrid system malfunction error" for the first time at 43267km. I took it to the Amherst, Nova Scotia dealership. They did not know what the problem was. This same error occurred every time I went through a puddle or car wash and, after drying out, would go away. This occurred many more times over the next year, and I took the vehicle to Toyota Truro, Nova Scotia, hoping to find a more competent mechanic. They said the "hybrid system malfunction error" was caused by corrosion of the harness but not in the typical place where it usually happens, so it would not be covered by warranty (which I still had at this point). The charge would be $5890 to me to repair the harness. So I took the Rav home dried her out in my garage. The HSME error codes stopped till the next puddle. So I continued to dry it out every time I hit a puddle, and I stayed out of car washes and made it along without the Rav quitting until 2 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago, my wife was out for a drive to the mall, and it quit and would not start. Same thing, many error codes, one of which was "hybrid system malfunction error see dealler" So I tried drying it out and still could not start it so I eventually took the positive battery cable off and back on (which I read some where that this would probably allow you to get the Rav4hybrid to start) and it worked. I drove it to Halifax toyota and they said it needed a new harness because of corrosion and that would cost $5900. So because the vehicle will not start unless I take the +ve cable off and on every time, I had to get the repair. So now, of course the 160000km warranty has passed, and I have to pay out of pocket. So I am reaching in my pocket now, very sad they wouldn't cover it when I was in earlier and still had it under warranty. Any help or advice on contacting Toyota Canada and getting them to cover this or at least part of it?

Feel for you regarding the cable problem you're having with your Rav 4 hybrid. Here are a couple of thoughts that may help. If the cable was damaged in another location, it could have been damaged in a road incident and may be covered by the collision portion of your car insurance. Another thought is to contact the folks at Motormouth, another Canadian automotive Utube channel. They may have more information regarding this problem and may even act as advocates to put pressure on Toyota to fix the problem. Best of luck.

Friends of mine have two year old Kia Sportage. One of the spark plugs failed at a low mileage and they had to be towed. Kia charged them a lot of money to replace the plug, even though the car supposedly has a seven year warranty. It was Kia who said the plug had ‘failed’, and a modern iridium plug should last 100000 miles. A spark plug in a modern car is not a consumable like a filter, brake pad or tyre, motto being, don’t trust warranties.

On those terms, forget road trips. In addition, I like to camp in remote places and I use portable solar panels for my devices - so the fact that I can't also recharge my vehicle with them is just too disappointing.
