I have only done 15 paintings, but I have a tip. When you are working on a color, set the container with the color number aside/away from the other containers. That way if you get distracted, you can come back and know what symbol/color number is in your tray.
My top tip is watching how to and tip videos like yours. I think I saved myself a lot of frustration! I'm new to DP, just did one so far, but it turned out well. I'm hooked already and have another canvas on order.

I just got my first diamond painting kit in the mail today along with my LED light box. So eager to get started. I bought a storage container too for my drills. The biggest tip I can offer. I have done several right now, my first was perhaps too big for a beginner, But I loved it any way. I am working on a big picture now again. But sometimes stop, work on very small projects. Having one or two small finished pieces, can really help provide encouragement for the bigger ones that seem to take a long time. One or two small fast and easy and get a finished piece. You get that good feeling that helps make bigger pieces easier to work on. And the odd little one on a window sill, or bookshelf is a nice touch for decorating too.
My best tip I wish I had known when did my first painting was not to lay ut flat. I have mine now propoed on an angle and it certainly has saved my neck and shoulders!
I love my parchment paper. The clear covers are difficult to get off of the adhesive if you put it back on the wrong side. I also have a system of saving all of my left over DMC colors and have needed them in the past when I was shorted diamonds in a kit.
One tip I wish I had known: after you unroll your canvas, pull up the clear plastic or other cover, flatten the canvas, then lay your cover back down, when flat. Very easy way to get your canvas to lay flat!
I use an old gift card as a row straightener. Make sure the first row you lay down is straight. Then straighten as you go, as needed. If my first row is wonky the whole painting is going to be wonky. Its harder to straighten after the drills have set after a couple of days.
Yes the round drills with tsa are 2.5mm. At first I thought it was too weird but after my first one I was hooked on them! Less gaps. You get more of the full coverage look but the ease and sparkle of rounds!
I haven’t been doing diamond paintings for a long time, I just started about two months ago, but I have a tip that helped me. My wax was drying out easily and only after a short period of time, I ended up switching to using blue tack, it doesn’t dry out as fast and sticks to the drills better
Thank you for the tip. I'm on my first diamond painting and noticed how fast the glue dried up. I'm thinking I won't have enough to finish. Where can I find the blue tack please mam? Thank you.

I’m new also. I’ve done three small canvas in two weeks, but I have a small stash of seven more larger ones ready. I love the art, but it annoys me to have to put more wax in the pen so often. I can get about 25-30 drills with one loading. So, since I have about 20 pens. I load them all before I begin. I can set a few hundred drills this way before having to load all the pens up again. I move fast enough that the wax doesn’t dry but I keep half of them in a small zip lock bag waiting. I keep them to my right when they are ready, and put them in a tray on my left when they need reloading. It is very satisfying when I’m on a roll with a large background area using one color. That’s my tip. I hope it helps someone.
That's a great tip! I would say it might be unusual to only get 25-30 drills before reloading, and it might be worth it to switch waxes/putties. :) Then you could load all 20 up and diamond paint for days!! :)
Lol, my kid was picking up a tray of 310s for me as I turned on this video. In the year I've been a diamond painter I've only done around 20 (6 maybe for my mum) 2 large, most medium and some snack sizes. I wish I new about poured glue verses double sided tape. I very quickly learnt I couldn't go without a lightpad. I insert my diamond pen into the foam core so it helps with hand pain (arthritis and trigger thumb) I have decided to take my time and enjoy each painting, sometimes I really want to get to the next one. But have had to realize that I'm not doing them just for the sake of doing them, each one has a reason for being here. If you want to fill up a folder of 30 x30 ect, great! Enjoy every picture and enjoy looking them over ☺ Definitely had to get over wanting all the great storage ideas, amazing what you can find in cheap shops. My eldests friend gave me a bunch of metal flip top mint containers, they are fantastic for large quantities. Even dropped that last night and it stayed closed 😊 For me a tilted table/tray is essential, my neck cannot cope on a flat surface. Hubby made a frame for my 40 x 90 picture of his car I did for his birthday. It was his Grandpas car, a 1969 Monaro. I have painted canvases and glued pictures onto them. I have used magnetic poster hangers, and framed with normal glass frame. I've sealed and not sealed. The most important thing about diamond painting is that it's supposed to be enjoyable.
I’ve quite a few diamond paintings now and my top tip is to put 3 squishies all the way down ur pen. The pink pens are quite uncomfortable to me and just one squishy is even worse. I tried getting a fancier pen from amazon but that broke pretty quickly and handmade pens can be fairly expensive so I just line my pink pen with squishies and it’s really comfortable for me. Hope this helps💙
You two make a great duo! I do a lot of diamond paintings too and for me squares are my cup of tea. I love the finished look of a square drilled canvas. Saying that, I always do a round drilled project in between my square drilled ones. It's harder doing squares so a round drilled DP helps keep things fresh and fun! I like my snacks in between meals 😋
Thank you for this video! Now I need to explore Treasure Studios. This is your third video I have watched, as I am just discovering the world of diamond painting. I find you your voice easy to listen to, your video setup great, and love the banter with Stephanie! I also love your choice of canvases!
Hi, great video. I think it helps to work with different sizes of DP. For example, make a big one and then a small or medium one to not get tired. Much Love and Healing to everyone!. Take care.
I just started, and the one thing I wish I had known after I found that the clear cover tears whichever way it wants, and that I could replace it with parchment paper. Parchment paper did cross my mind, but like the silly goose that I am, I tried clear cellophane, and then waxed paper. Both absolute no no's. I am about half way through this project and already looking for a new project. But this time I am prepared. Thank you.
Great tip!! I agree - that clear cover has a mind of its own! 😀 My go-to method now is sectioning off with tape and cutting with scissors, but parchment or release paper is ideal! 😀
I am brand new to diamond painting. My friend got me one for Christmas and I completed it today and I am hooked! Haha. Unfortunately I went on Wish and ordered 3 before I found this video and now I'm worried about copyright issues. So moving forward I will make sure I keep that in mind. Thank you :)
Victoria Cryer Welcome to the addiction! I purchased a lot of these kinds of canvases before I realized what was going on unfortunately. We can only do better once we know, and I don’t think we have to feel bad about our learning process. Know better, do better, right? 😀
Hi, I am a newbie and I must say I love your videos thank you for all your help. I have just received my first project today so I am going to make a start tomorrow. The only thing Is I have some lines/creases that I’m going to try and get rid of them. Take care and keep safe.
Hi, Emma!! I am excited to hear how your project goes! Keep me posted! (And yes, it will be important to get rid of those creases before you start. I learned that the hard way!) :)
Tiny Worlds of Wonder. I haven’t started yet as I am looking for some acid free washy tape. But I’m so excited I just might start with out it as I can’t find any. Well pretty colourful ones any way. I will definitely let you know how it’s going. Have you got a inbox or would you like me to wright on here?
Emma Evans With all the craft stores closed the washi tape is hard to find right now. You can contact me either way - through the comments here, or I do have an email address listed in my about me section. 😀
Watching this 7 months after it was filmed and listening to you talking about going stir crazy... Oh man, if we only knew! I have bought 3 diamond paintings and I’m anxiously waiting for them to arrive.
My top tip to all of the new Diamond painters is to inspect the goods. I made the mistake of looking at DAC reviews, and ordering the art, only to discover that the drills were substandard when I went to do them months later. Don't order and just add to the stash, that was my mistake. Too late to get a refund- I wish someone would have clued me in that you should inspect the canvas and drills when you receive them. Maybe that is a video you could post, Tiny. "How to unbox and inspect an order- what to watch out for". Anyway, really enjoyed this vid with you and your daughter. Your family seems like so much fun.
Here is my tip , I'm newbie so tip1) take your time, i was so excited to do my first art that i rushed myself , i spilled all my diamonds all over my carpet , i had to get down on my floor with a flashlight an look for as many as i could so " take your time!" , 2) do not I'll say it again do not jab at the jewels they will go a flying , let the glue be you picker upper , but that being said lov it so much can't wait for project 3 .tata
One hint that hasn’t been covered... get a cheap pair of reading glasses to use for a little extra magnification. I, too, couldn’t live without a light pad.
I’m super late lol but my tip for beginners is: get a good diamond painting pen! My hand always used to cramp with the pink pen even with the grip, I now have a resin pen that works super well, it stills hurts my hand if I’m working for a long time but definitely not as much as the regular pen
Thanks for the tips! I have a DP ordered, and I’m so excited! I’ve watched several of your videos and they just make me even more excited. I really love your videos! Also, is there any sort of “DIY” you could make to hold your drills when they don’t come in individual bags?
That is awesome, Kylie! I am so excited for you!! I have heard of people using inexpensive sandwich bags in a pinch, and also empty medicine bottles or tick tack containers. :)
5cathain2 Great question! I run a regular kitchen rolling pin over my canvas when it’s finished just to make sure all the drills are contacting the adhesive. 😀
Does every canvas have the same symbol for the colours...if I buy a completely different picture which happens to have those exact colours will it have those exact symbols...hope you understand my question?!? Watching from Ireland... haven't rec'd my first one yet...still learning!
Hi, Margaret! Many canvases use the DMC color codes equivalent to the DMC floss colors, but most don't use the same symbols for the same color. I organize my left over drills by DMC code and not by symbol so I can have a more or less uniform set of colors. I hope that helps! :)
I usually put it only on sides that have overlapping adhesive because my edges never show after framing. If you want the uniform border to be visible, I would do all sides.
After watching you video I decided I wanted to give diamond painting a go. Love it.....I'm almost done with my first painting. Along the way I got my 14 yr old daughter hooked 😀 She ordered her own kit. It arrived today... hmmm. I was under the impression that symbols, letters and colors are universal to every painting...or is it determent by brand/manufacturer? Non of our paintings match color or symbols What to do? Now we have right now two storage containers for the same symbol but the color is non matching What am I doing wrong?
Daniele Schneider Yay, Daniele! I am so excited you’re giving it a try! Most canvases use the DMC colors and those should be universal, but each canvas uses different symbols. So for example, 154 is always dark purple, but the symbol for 154 might be different on each canvas. Does that make sense?
Tiny Worlds of Wonder so I put the digits behind the symbols on the side so know if they match for another project... I’m soo sorry for all the questions 😓 but I’m soo in love with doing these I’m disabled and do from my chair
Ok so I just got my first one, it came this Friday I got the 6 end, 3 end, tape, drills, tray, checklist, canvass, cushion, and sticker things but I DIDNT GET THE PEN
I would suggest sending any infringing work directly to the artist so that they can take action. Often artists web sites will have an email address where you can contact them. Typically only the person who owns the copyright can do a cease and desist letter, so they may find that information helpful. Sadly there are more stores that steal work by far than those that legally license. :(
I wish I had known the difference between a canvas with poured glue as the adhesive for your diamond placement and double sided adhesive. The canvases on my opinion need to be unrolled differently and flattened out differently to prevent rivers and bubbles in your canvas adhesive
That is a great one, Kim! You're right - the two require very different treatment. I really hate the clear covers themselves, but I do get tired of babysitting the double-sided adhesive canvases. They are so fussy! :)
I just started DP about a month ago so everyday has been a learning experience! Thank goodness for UA-cam videos. You did answer the plastic vs paper covering for me. On other videos, it seems like that’s a necessity. Plastic has worked well for me through 2 paintings. I have a couple questions. What do you do with extra drills besides throw them away? Also, some people cut away the edging before framing. Why is that? Thank you for your videos!
Hi, Janie! I don't mind the plastic now, especially if I run a line of tape down the clear cover so I can cut it into sections. :) I have a few plans for extra drills, but the first will likely be some Christmas ornaments. I'll be sure to share if that project ever materializes! LOL! I cut away my edges only if I'm doing a type of framing where the edges will show. If I'm having the piece framed professionally, I usually leave them on. I hope that helps! :)
Hello ^^ I just found this video and I made my first diamond painting (30x30) end of last week (15 hours in 2 days). I thought about ordering a custom of a drawing of myself. Yet I am unsure on a few things... 1. Where to order a custom? 2. Which Picture to use (I have 3 drawings I made, I was considering) 3. How to know which Size for which picture 4. Are there other things to consider? 5. If I made a Fanart of a DBroken Glass-Dog someone else designed, can I still use it? (An User/Staffmember of a Forum where you can adopt growing and collectable small animal-designs each month designed a dog and I really loved it and drew a fanart of it. (That User saw it as well, if I remember correctly, as it was picked as a feature for a week that time). I did the art, but that user designed the pet. So do I have the rights to make it a Custom painting?) Ps; I like that you try to only used licensed or public paintings! When I was younger I made a lot of copyright mistakes as well. I never really understood some of the comments until a kind user took her/his time and explained me what I did wrong and how to do it properly. I think many people do these things out of mistake and simply not knowing, so I like that you point these things out ^^ I have a huge folder with links to products I wanted to buy in the future. How can I see if these have properly managed copyrights? Most of them are from Aliexpress/Amazon as I only just started and wanted to test my skill out on "cheap" canvases before going on to the more expensive ones. Some of them barely have any description... just the size and maybe the drill if you're lucky. (I once bought from a seller like this and he simply couldn't speak English which was why he had nothing really filled out)
Hi, Sakura!! Great questions and welcome to this fun hobby!! Ever Moment on Ali Express is my go-to for customs right at the moment, but you could also try Royal Diamond Painting if you're looking for poured glue. :) Sometimes I use this site: my.thread-bare.com/designer to get a good preview of what different pieces might look like as diamond paintings. This video: ua-cam.com/video/E8gVngA0hTQ/v-deo.html might offer some guidance about sizing, but I find that sellers are also happy to offer previews. :) If you're using your own artwork as a custom that is usually 100% okay. I'm not an attorney, so I can't give specific advice on fanart - from speaking with my attorney fanart seems to be a bit of a gray area. If you were planning to publicly display/sell the piece, it would be worth consulting an attorney first, but for pieces created for your own personal use that you won't be displaying or selling, it seems like it would be unlikely to cause an issue. The best way to insure that you're only purchasing licensed work is to purchase from sellers who universally license all of their pieces. (I have a list here: ua-cam.com/video/WwHJGIfUAu8/v-deo.html and here: ua-cam.com/video/NuiV5zr1YtI/v-deo.html) I would assume that all diamond painting designs are stolen unless the artist's name is prominently displayed. I have yet to find licensed work on either Ali Express or Amazon. I hope that helps!! :)
I have definitely had my share of trial and error as well, Nette! There are quite a few pitfalls in this hobby. I'm grateful to have you here on the journey from here on out! :)
Thank you so much , i m not quite sertain behind the camera jet but i have only had my cannel for Close to a week :) i hope really it eill be better :))
Crisbang*._.* Wired stuff I don’t feel comfortable advising people for certain one way or the other, but I do see several images on the site that raise big red flags for me. Thanks for caring enough to ask! A good rule of thumb is to look to see if the site lists the artist’s name and copyright information. All the companies I am aware of that license work legally list this information prominently.
@@tinyworldsofwonder okey haha thanks for the advise i think? but yes i just will wait for them to come and then look at it next time i will buy from one of the ones u listed in ur video :))

I agree with Debbie! A tabletop easel really helps. I link one in my recent 5 Tools video that I really like. I try to change the angle almost every day. Oddly enough, doing some strengthening exercises in the shoulders and upper back has also helped to eliminate my pain.
Jordan I tape my large canvas (42x57 cm currently) to a 4 ft plastic folding table that I have propped on end. I would love an easel eventually. I have the table wedged between my desk and my closet. Smaller ones (20 x 25 cm) I clip to the light pad that is on a tiny easel that came with the light pad. I’ll post a couple pictures on INstagram. fitzpatrickcatrin is the name I find it helpful to see how people set up their workspaces
One of my diamond painting tips is while you are working listen to music or movies or youtube. I found that diamond painting is kind of boring with no noise. I have also found out that containers are better than bags. I have been wasting so much time opening and closing the bags when diamond painting. The containers are a lot easier to open and close.
Thank you for all of the beginner videos. I purchased a canvas from DAC and was really intimidated to even start it. Luckily, I found your videos and finally got up the nerve to start. You have great info that helped me so much!

Claudette Jones Ooh, that’s a great idea!
@@tinyworldsofwonder good point :) and thanks for the welcome!
Ha ha!!! Totally!! We’ve basically lost it at this point! 😂😂😂
Totally! But at least I’m not alone and I have craft supplies.
That is a beautiful canvas. My niece would love it for her birthday! I think it'll be my next.
Isn't it lovely? This artist is so talented. The recipient of this one is a big fan of horses, so I hope she'll love it! :)
Nancy Hall Thanks, Nancy!! That is a great point and a great video idea!
Great tips, Mary! I have definitely done the hands and knees routine too! :)
One hint that hasn’t been covered... get a cheap pair of reading glasses to use for a little extra magnification. I, too, couldn’t live without a light pad.
DznyKyd Great idea! That hadn’t occurred to me, but it sure would work!!
I love this DP 😍
I’m super late lol but my tip for beginners is: get a good diamond painting pen! My hand always used to cramp with the pink pen even with the grip, I now have a resin pen that works super well, it stills hurts my hand if I’m working for a long time but definitely not as much as the regular pen
Great tip, Veronica!!
Hi Guys👋 laughters great stress release 💖
Is a roller useful....how does it work...and when do I use it? Thx
5cathain2 Great question! I run a regular kitchen rolling pin over my canvas when it’s finished just to make sure all the drills are contacting the adhesive. 😀
Does every canvas have the same symbol for the colours...if I buy a completely different picture which happens to have those exact colours will it have those exact
symbols...hope you understand my question?!? Watching from Ireland... haven't rec'd my first one yet...still learning!
Hi, Margaret! Many canvases use the DMC color codes equivalent to the DMC floss colors, but most don't use the same symbols for the same color. I organize my left over drills by DMC code and not by symbol so I can have a more or less uniform set of colors. I hope that helps! :)
@@tinyworldsofwonder super! Many thanks...still awaiting my first kit...
I wish I had known about checkerboarding with square drills.
Me too, Tim! That is a great trick! And you have a great name - but I bet you get that a lot. ;)
I use symbols to find the correct colour too on my containers find it easier
Do you put washi on all 4 sides?
I usually put it only on sides that have overlapping adhesive because my edges never show after framing. If you want the uniform border to be visible, I would do all sides.
After watching you video I decided I wanted to give diamond painting a go.
Love it.....I'm almost done with my first painting. Along the way I got my 14 yr old daughter hooked 😀
She ordered her own kit. It arrived today... hmmm. I was under the impression that symbols, letters and colors are universal to every painting...or is it determent by brand/manufacturer?
Non of our paintings match color or symbols
What to do? Now we have right now two storage containers for the same symbol but the color is non matching
What am I doing wrong?
Daniele Schneider Yay, Daniele! I am so excited you’re giving it a try! Most canvases use the DMC colors and those should be universal, but each canvas uses different symbols. So for example, 154 is always dark purple, but the symbol for 154 might be different on each canvas. Does that make sense?
Love when you do videos with your daughter lol
Kishia B. Aw, thanks!! She is pretty awesome. 🥰
What do you do with leftover diamonds when finished with painting 😓 will they ever be needed for another one or just get rid of them
Tiffany Brand I do save them in small baggies for future projects. 😀
Tiny Worlds of Wonder so I put the digits behind the symbols on the side so know if they match for another project... I’m soo sorry for all the questions 😓 but I’m soo in love with doing these I’m disabled and do from my chair
LMAO!!!! You two make a great team.
Kendra Iacouzze Thanks!!! We sure have fun. 😂
Ok so I just got my first one, it came this Friday I got the 6 end, 3 end, tape, drills, tray, checklist, canvass, cushion, and sticker things but I DIDNT GET THE PEN
Alex Singleton What?? That is super weird!! How frustrating! I wonder if they’ll send you one if you complain?
Tiny Worlds of Wonder I sent a message on Facebook and Instagram 2 days ago and no respond but I am getting it done with the 3
Copyright infringement is a huge issue with rubber stamps as well!
That is a great point! I have definitely seen dies on Ali that I recognize from US companies. It is so sad!
How do I find the tape and what is the name brand
You can find washi tape in the paper crafting section of most craft stores. :) Any kind of acid-free tape would also work.
I noticed you didn't add Diamond Art Club to your list of licensed stores. Is it because of the price or.....?
I believe it is on there - see the third store I list. :)
@@tinyworldsofwonder recended haha sorry i was not looking at the video. 🤦🏻♀️
Cathren Riddler No worries! I miss things all the time, so it’s always good to ask! 😀
Hi how do I send you a link to a site I think has copy right infringement products?
I would suggest sending any infringing work directly to the artist so that they can take action. Often artists web sites will have an email address where you can contact them. Typically only the person who owns the copyright can do a cease and desist letter, so they may find that information helpful. Sadly there are more stores that steal work by far than those that legally license. :(
This was a great intro ^^ thanks!
Hello ^^
I just found this video and I made my first diamond painting (30x30) end of last week (15 hours in 2 days).
I thought about ordering a custom of a drawing of myself. Yet I am unsure on a few things...
1. Where to order a custom?
2. Which Picture to use (I have 3 drawings I made, I was considering)
3. How to know which Size for which picture
So do I have the rights to make it a Custom painting?)
Ps; I like that you try to only used licensed or public paintings!
When I was younger I made a lot of copyright mistakes as well. I never really understood some of the comments until a kind user took her/his time and explained me what I did wrong and how to do it properly.
I think many people do these things out of mistake and simply not knowing, so I like that you point these things out ^^
I have a huge folder with links to products I wanted to buy in the future.
I do wish i had known about your Chanel from the Get go , i have desbotes of so many 😥
I have definitely had my share of trial and error as well, Nette! There are quite a few pitfalls in this hobby. I'm grateful to have you here on the journey from here on out! :)
Thank you so much , i m not quite sertain behind the camera jet but i have only had my cannel for Close to a week :) i hope really it eill be better :))

Thank you sooo much ❤️

Yay, Molly! Have tons of fun with them! :)
@@tinyworldsofwonder omg thanks so much or replying it means so much i love your videos they are so helpful
i got my 2 diamond paintings fom ''diamondxpress'' its from hawaii is that a fine enough place`??
Crisbang*._.* Wired stuff I don’t feel comfortable advising people for certain one way or the other, but I do see several images on the site that raise big red flags for me. Thanks for caring enough to ask! A good rule of thumb is to look to see if the site lists the artist’s name and copyright information. All the companies I am aware of that license work legally list this information prominently.
@@tinyworldsofwonder okey haha thanks for the advise i think? but yes i just will wait for them to come and then look at it next time i will buy from one of the ones u listed in ur video :))
Crisbang*._.* Wired stuff All we can do is try our best, right? Thanks for being great - and for caring enough to ask! ❤️
Great video
Thanks so much! 😀
Do you know if painting with diamonds produces legal paintings?
The last time I checked their site, there were red flags flying all over for me. ;)
Oh no! I need pointers or tips!! Did you make a video?
How does it stay on the paper
Courtney Elder Each canvas comes covered in adhesive. 😀
Staroar is also a company that give artist credit for their art.
ShelyMB Thanks for sharing that, Shely! I will take a look at them! 😀
I ordered mine for the first time , I was thinking to cut lines , Until I get to other parts of the photo
I hope you have a blast with your project! :)
I love to diamond paint. And they’re fairly easy for me, since I have so much free time now lol. However i’m looking down the whole entire time , and my neck will be kiLLiNg mE. any tips? i cant be the only one 😂
A tip: a glass table or a picture frame with a lamp under work great in case you don't have a light pad. :)
Natalia Cutie Great idea!!
Why do u need the wax ?
Jade Dean The wax helps the diamonds stick to the end of the pen. 😀 You can also use tweezers, but I find them slower. 😀
One of my diamond painting tips is while you are working listen to music or movies or youtube. I found that diamond painting is kind of boring with no noise. I have also found out that containers are better than bags. I have been wasting so much time opening and closing the bags when diamond painting. The containers are a lot easier to open and close.
I agree, Cami! I love listening to audio books while I DP. :) And I completely agree about the containers!!
Using washi tape on the edges of the diamond painting, because it gets really dirty and drives me crazy
Iva Thomas Yeeessss - good one. 😀
such an innocent time back then........
🤣🤣🤣 Crazy right?
You are funny!!!
Andrea Motta Thanks!! I am a big dork, but I have fun! 🤣🤣🤣
If using parchment paper, use Reynolds not the cheap Dollar Store brand (been there, done that🥴). The cheap stuff STICKS😱, Reynolds does not!
That's a great heads up, Adric! Thank you!!
Thank you for all of the beginner videos. I purchased a canvas from DAC and was really intimidated to even start it. Luckily, I found your videos and finally got up the nerve to start. You have great info that helped me so much!
Heather McDougall I am so glad these videos have helped you! That makes my whole day!! 😀❤️
