I agree, this planet was a much better place in the 50's / 60's / 70's. We sure have gone downhill over the past 70 yrs ☹️
An Earth that enjoyed life. No biases
I wish I could've been there.👍✌
Don't know how I landed on this video but I'm glad I did , it sure put a smile on my face and made my day.
Gary did a really great job.
Definitely one of the most underrated movies of our time. I saw this at my local cinema & went back the week after to watch it again 😅
Great Performance by Gary Busy 1957 I was born that year 90 miles away in Philly
Great performance by Gary bussey
When we lost Buddy Holly, we lost the beginning of Rock and Roll, and then, it took off never to come to an end. Those were the best days of my life.
He did a great job making this movie. Dam I was born in 57 that went by quick I've played music live so I know if women start moving there heads everyone will be just fine
Great music transcends all racial barriers. I have never let sex, race or religion influence what music I like. Music speaks to your soul. Thank God for music.
I love ALMOST ALL MUSIC....THIS IS A SUPERB EXAMPLE of GREAT MUSIC.....MY DAD introduced me to this gere..I had many genres of music bc I had many ppl to introduce me to different types of music from many diff era's of life..thank GOD for them and their sharing.....
I've got tears in my eyes right now. This is Cradle Rock. Way ahead of its time. Busey was so good in this movie.
Me too. I’m from Lubbock Texas
It definitely brings tears to my eyes. Buddy is one of my all time favorites. I was born in 1965. The show Happy Days brought most of this great music to my life. I think this may have been one of the first movies I saw at a theater. Gary Busey was phenomenal as Buddy. This particular scene was done so well. They really represented the racial part very well. The people were able to tune themselves in to the music instead of just seeing white. Wonderful.
Liverpool UK, I'm shaking with emotion and in floods of tears 😢 😭
The bass player was in another movie where he acted as the leader of a band called Cotton Candy, and that was the name of the movie, "Cotton Candy."
You can hear the Beatles, the Stones, The Who, and the explosion in creativity that Holly initiated after he died. Wonderful.
Led Zeppelin too.
HE, MORE CHUCK BERRY, LITTLE RICHARD AND JERRY LEE, ARE THE PIONEERS THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, THANKS TO THEM THE BEATLES CAME
Had he lived longer buddy Holly would have been king of rock n rol l with his talent and song writing ability he had lots of people and bands following him people who love talent still listen to buddy today thank you buddy ❤️👍💙
@@randymurray1509 Absolutely.
@Duke Marshall I think you are right. I don't think this can be said of any other icon of that era in quite the same way. He played out the blueprint for the sixties in a handful of utterly classic songs.
I loved this movie and watch it when it comes on TV from time to time. This show was well done and it's the Busey I remember and will keep remembering. That's the real American Idol: Apollo.
Talent thanks Buddy &The Crickets God Bless
Two years before I was born but my oldest sister was 11. So I grew up with this type of music and I love it still today and hope I can give my granddaughters a chance to hear how great the music was then.
Great music. Those were the days. RIP Buddy. Gone way to early. Fantastic memories.🤗
It's amazing to me I first saw this movie in late 1978 at a theater outside of Fort Benning, GA when I was in jump school. Talk about timeless.....
Wow! 🤯 Gary Busey has done a brilliant job at being Buddy Holly and his on stage band are just sheer musical geniuses.
I remember he was on everyone's lips when his plane crashed, I was eleven and unconscious of a lot of things but I knew who Buddy Holly was and his songs. Such a short , wonderful life. Forever a star.
Gary Busey was 33, lost 32 lbs for the role, Ebert 3.5 stars, Siskel 4. Busey was nominated fo an Oscar (best actor), the musical score won an Academy Award. That said, quite a movie. Busey said he felt Buddy Holly's spirit was in him when making it.
An absolutely magnificent performance by Gary Busey
Thank you father for allowing me to hear all of these greats while they were still alive and I was too then sadly to see them pass while I was blessed enough to be alive. Praise God.
Saw this movie at a cadet summer camp on fold out chairs in a hanger, huge impact.
My mother sang at the Apollo way before any of us watching this video we're alive, she was white, actually took first place, second place went to this guy Frank who eventually became a man by the name of Frankie Laine. She passed away in 2017 at 102 years old, so could imagine how long ago that was.
Great video by the way! It's funny how the men in the audience mostly all wore suits back then. I was just a kid back then but I remember that. Pretty cool. Ain't It Funny, How Time Slips Away.
brother.. time goes by to damn quick lol
@@stevewixom9311 I always say Steve, time waits for no-one! Thanks!
@@stevewixom9311 Damn right it does! I remember asking a guy at work who had reached retirement at 65 after 20 years service. He told me the years had flown by and I said, "blimey don't say that as i'm only 45 myself". He was right.....i'm 70 now and my son was saying he can't wait until he retires......he's 45 so I told him what the old guy at work had said to me.
Nice story thanks !
I love your story Joe, thank you for sharing.
I remember listening to Buddy Holly on distant am radio stations at night when I was 8. We could FEEL the power of raising new music. The , the morning of February 4, we heard of the plane crash & just knew that was our day of infamy. My bros & sisters & cousins & school friends grieved for months. And gradually there were others appearing on Ed Sullivan that started the momentum again. But, nobody ever replaced Buddy, The Big Bopper & Richie Valance

@@michaelsachs8729 - always keep an eye on that built in spell check.
Come back buddy music needs you ,we needyou.
Busey's best, and only Oscar nominated role! He can be proud of this one his entire life!
Gary Busey and costars - i think Buddy is grinning from ear to ear. You did a GREAT reenactment. Buddy Holly and the Crickets....for real!!! Chokes me up every time I hear Buddy. Deborah, Lubbock Texas
Very nice. He is playing a 1960s Telecaster with a Rosewood Neck
Wow. I didn't expect to see this.
Totally gobsmacked once I realised that this isn't the original artist. Nailed it! Great performance all round. Hoping the fun didn't end there.
One of my all time favs. Busey is a talent singing and playing his guitar . I had no idea it’s was for real from busey . Great ole movie ! Thanks
I went to school with Buddy Holly! He wrote, and did all his own music 🎶
Born in 61 , this was before my time but the 50's was ALWAYS my favorite, stays on top of all , trust me I like all music from Chuck berry to buck cherry, good to see Sam Cook another one gone WAY TOO SOON, thanks to whoever made this available!!
Buddy Holly was ahead of his time.
Agreed
Dont know how you work that out he wrote a few decent songs but his voice no loads of others better
@@glenharrison4311 bizarre comment. How many white rock singers have technically pure singing voices anyway? Probably less than five in the entire history of rock music. A "few songs"? C'mon, get real. Learn some history. He was a great, great song writer - no question about that. No Buddy Holly, no Beatles.
@@glenharrison4311 lol please stop 😂
Agreed
Fun fact for you: Gary Busey was nominated for an oscar for Best Actor for his performance in this movie.
Well deserved too
he got totally jobbed.
shoulda won that hands down.
@@barrylefkowitz3697 👍
He should have one not easy to sound like Mr.Holly
Double fun fact: Don Stroud played the drums and was a professional level surfer, and Charles Martin Smith played the bass...
Brought so many good memories! At 10 years old, my dad took me to go see this movie. Thank you!
Prior to his motorcycle accident, Gary was considered by some to be a multi talented genius.
Crazy as he is, I still think he's funny and talented.
Helmet!
Yes, his Mom & Dad thought he was very talented.
Seriously, I've always enjoyed his acting.
Severe brain damage made him odd and crazy.
Gary Busey was born to play this role ❤
He deserves an award for his acting here I think great acting performance.
As a big Buddy Holly fan. Gary Busey gave the best performance by far of any who have tried since, and the best tribute, to such an icon. And to be singing live in his performances, shows his real talent. I watched the film on its first release, and never tire of watching it still. I love listening to his takes on all the Buddy Holly songs, but two that stand out for me personally are Maybe Baby and True Love Ways. 🎶🎵🎸
Every single one of his songs was so unique. Rock 'n Roll music for the ages.
Hello Suzie, How are you doing?
Definitely! If Elvis Presley was the king of rock and roll, then guys like Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, and Carl Perkins were its fathers.
Hello suzie, I see happiness all around all around you, can I please share from it?
I have not seen the film but just from this clip Gary Busey was excellent. And I always thought he was the tough guy in films!
Gary was and is a star from birth. Pay attention actors and actresses to his dedication to perform at best!!!
I had the great good fortune to be instrument tech on The Buddy Holly Story in Australia (2009) promoted by great friends David And Julie White... A fabulous tour opened on 3rd of February the 59th anniversary of Buddy's death. By Peggy Sue Gerron ( sadly now deceased ) a great trooper of a Lady, and a wonderful friend. Scott Cameron played a stunningly lookalike BUDDY, and absolutely took the part for his own!! Great days. This version was fabulous too, a fitting tribute to the great man..... Rave on!!
Good movie, and Gary Busey did a fantastic job playing Buddy Hollie
Incredible performances and music in this movie. If you get to the end of it and don’t have tears in your eyes or at least fell incredibly sad at the loss of these wonderfully talented people, you aren’t human. The joyful exuberance of these songs is unforgettable.
What a great memory flash! We all got along pretty good back in those days didn't we folks. The beginning of brotherhood don't you think???❤❤😊
Buddy Holly my father's favorite, as I was growing up in my school years buddy and elvis, who my mom liked was all that my parents played on record at home cause they didn't experiment in music was all they played and when I started on guitar my first songs was buddy hollies music that'll be the Not elvis or anyone else I started with buddy Holly, I got the notes and style from a bass player called McCartney practicing on a acoustic in his studio televised by the BBC.
Made me cry with tears of joy - White - Black - Music - that will bring us together@@@
I never understood the ignorance of skin color, A persons attitude and behavior is whats important
Had we only known this during Viet Nam we would not have had such a difficult time. USN veteran
