Buddy was ahead of his time. Every documentary I've seen about him leaves me amazed. And he was so intrigued by recording and sound engineering technology, as well as production. Had he lived longer, he likely would have become a legendary producer.

Jerry Allison was the best r'n'r drummer...his paradiddles and innovations in rock percussion were absolutely unique. He and Buddy matched like no other drummer and guitar player ever did. Hats off !

Drummer pestered Holly to rename the song to impress his gf and Holly responded by offering a deal: You get the paradiddles right and I'll rename the song. So in that version it would seem that the drummer needed practice and Holly had to motivate him.
My 21yr old son will be graduating from college in the spring. At that time, he will be the same age that Buddy was when he passed. I never really thought how painfully YOUNG Buddy Holly was when he died until now, seeing my own child at the same point in his life. It's ASTOUNDING how much Buddy accomplished in his far, far too short life.

I automatically think punk rock two decades ahead of its time when I see and hear him, even though that characterization is very limiting. Even with that look he has the whole confidence and attitude down; stripped down to the core of what rock is all about. I've been to Lubbock; it's a desolate, hardscrabble place where dust chokes your lungs and you can see how a man can come out of there with the fury to conquer the world. RIP the greatest master of early rock.

1976 I was 12 and rejected disco and I remember looking through my mom’s old favorites… nuff said! Buddy, Elvis, Gene Vincent, Everlys, etc… they were an answer to prayer.
This man will be remembered for some reasons.First,his world class voice and singing,and then,his abilities to compose a good song.I mean,a real good song.
They will never tear down the Duluth ( MN ) armory because three days before his untimely death, Holly played one of his final shows there and in the front row was a teenage Bobby Dylan who claims to have made eye contact with Holly which Dylan has ca)led a passing of the torch moment.

When its fixed, he leaps to another time and space, another something that's gone "wrong". At the end of very first episode, the hero, Sam, turns to young man playing guitar ... Throughout the episode a minor character was trying out different lyrics and chords on his guitar. He's singing "Piggy Sue" to a pig at the end. Sam turns to him "Buddy, try 'Peggy Sue'." And he leaps.

This clip is very good, do look for the hi res black and white upload as well. very sharp. It's great that Buddy's guitar is miked up, but the camera goes to Niki during the solo, even though he is not even plugged in!
I love the mike set up for the bass - I haven't seen it done like that before in all the videos I've seen of this era. The drumming is out of this world.

Many people forget just how influential Buddy Holly was in the world of Popular Music. He influenced the Beatles, among others; apparently, Paul McCartney was a big fan. I always felt that the English singer Elvis Costello modelled his early look on him, too - glasses and all; and he also inspired the Don Maclean song 'American Pie' from 1972.
He didn't write Peggy Sue. Most of his well-know songs were written by others or by Holly with a co-writer. That's not a bad thing; Elvis didn't write songs and he did quite well! ;)
Buddy Holly and the Crickets appeared twice at the Borger Country Club a mile from my home at my age of 7. Place still stands with original doors he used. Like a holy site to me!
His story is the textbook example of "what could've been". How important was he? He changed the musical paradigm of how bands looked and operated, and it's no more evident than with the British Invasion. So many bands cite Buddy as their inspiration, and probably brought the Stratocaster to prominence. Absolute legend.
What a fantastic treat to watch with my coffee and guitar. He really should be dubbed, and to me, he is, as the "Prince of Rock N' Roll". Because, shit, he busted down the doors by, basically, being the first 3-piece band. Or, at least, one of the first.

He didn't write Peggy Sue. Most of his well-know songs were written by others or by Holly with a co-writer. That's not a bad thing; Elvis didn't write songs and he did quite well! ;)
Buddy Holly and the Crickets appeared twice at the Borger Country Club a mile from my home at my age of 7. Place still stands with original doors he used. Like a holy site to me!
His story is the textbook example of "what could've been". How important was he? He changed the musical paradigm of how bands looked and operated, and it's no more evident than with the British Invasion. So many bands cite Buddy as their inspiration, and probably brought the Stratocaster to prominence. Absolute legend.

What a fantastic treat to watch with my coffee and guitar. He really should be dubbed, and to me, he is, as the "Prince of Rock N' Roll". Because, shit, he busted down the doors by, basically, being the first 3-piece band. Or, at least, one of the first.
