The funniest thing about the stealth archer build is that at 100 Sneak, you could be taking out a group of enemies from five feet away- and each NPC, at the sight of their friends and cohorts falling dead in front of them, will still carry on like traffic to Whiterun is their biggest worry.

When I did stealth archer playthroughs, I'd always go for that ebony chestplate daedric artifact that made you invisible when you sneak, so I didn't really even need sneak 100 to rip apart a totally oblivious group of foes! Very powerful stuff and my go to item when I do any sort of stealth.

i once had a bug where farkas kept autonomously running up to me and initiating conversation with a weapon drawn. he wasn't my follower, either-i'd barely even looked at jorrvaskr the whole playthrough, but he just. kept. hounding me.
i tried fast traveling to get away. he followed. i tried riding a horse all the way to solitude in the hope that he'd lose interest after i was far enough away. nearly an hour later, and halfway through potema's catacombs, the clank of steel footsteps approaches behind me.
i try fus-ro-dah-ing him of the throat of the world. i try beating the companions quest to get him as a legitimate follower. i try luring him into a dragon's lair and hoping he doesn't leave.
and every time. every single time, sometimes _mid-combat,_ he runs up to me, grabs his stupid steel greatsword, pulls me into conversation, and says, "some people don't think i'm smart. those people get my fist. but you, i like."
eventually, i turn to the internet. surely, surely someone out there must have heard of this before, right? there must be a fix, this game has been out for years! and then, there, on his wiki page, i see it. while not recognized as one in the game, he's got some guard ai. if a player has a high enough bounty, regardless of which hold, those lines of code will demand he make an arrest. he's not a guard. he can't make an arrest. there are several suggested fixes. resetting his ai doesn't work. resetting his entire character entity doesn't work. the only remaining suggestion is to pay off your bounty. i look miserably upon my crime statistics.
i have only one outstanding bounty. 8000 gold, in the reach. i earned it from beginning the forsworn conspiracy questline. i ran away when they tried to arrest me. hours ago, a bounty hunter approached me and demanded i pay, either in coin, or in blood. i chose coin. he walked back to markarth. out of paranoia, i followed. he entered the city. i waited, hiding, for fifteen real-life minutes. long enough, surely, for the npc to deliver my payment. i resumed gameplay as usual. several in-game days have passed.
i still have an 8000 gold bounty. farkas will not stop following me until i have paid it off. i cannot pay it off without continuing the forsworn conspiracy quest. i cannot continue the forsworn conspiracy quest with him following me. i do not _want_ to continue the forsworn conspiracy quest. i reload an old save and spend the rest of the playthrough avoiding whiterun like the plague, but still, still i can hear his voice. mocking me. taunting me. saying, "but you, i like."
and that's why i can't look at farkas without seeing tamriel's most dedicated stalker, thanks for coming to my ted talk

I rarely ever go for dragon plate armor, it's always daedric or, since I always boost my smithing, alchemy and enchanting, i take the armor that is most aesthetically pleasing at the time and boost it to 500 armor rating (cap is somewhere around 485, or something like that, it gives you 80% damage reduction, anything over 500 is useless as it doesn't go over 80% cap).
Dragon bones and scales are just a bitch to carry. For a complete armor set + weapon and shield (if you decide on one) it needs a lot of em.
Same goes for dwarven armor. The raw material for it is just way too heavy. Although you can always buy the ingots so it's not so much of a hassle.

I actually like draugr tombs than dwarven ruins, at least the draugr tombs are straightforward and these are often the ones that contain word walls.
Dwarven ruins however, have these convoluted pathways, traps, heavy loot, and it feels less satisfying slicing at metal than draugr flesh, basically it feels more like a yawn to go through dwarven ruins, unless they have quests related to them, I don't bother with them.

About number 7, it's especially enraging when you've played previous Elder Scrolls:
-In Oblivion, grabbing an object grabs it by the targeted vertex, the very point you're looking at. This allows for fine control and putting things upright.
-In Skyrim, you're ALWAYS picking it up by the _center base_ of the object. Hence why the objects always flip over, how you can't just pull it an inch to the side, etc... To add insult to injury, when moving NPCs you actually grab them by where you're looking. At this point it's sabotage.

People got really annoyed in Oblivion when you completed the main quest, because oblivion gates would stop opening. And even though they're unpleasant, they're also the only way to get sigil stones. You want those a lot. So they avoided that in Skyrim. Almost any weirdness in skyrim is a result of poor design decisions in earlier games. Like how you have to wait for a door animation every time you open one. Thats because in Oblivon you could jump from really high up and as long as you activated a door before you hit the ground you'd be safely transported into a new area.

Yesterday... well "yesterday" (you'll see) I randomly decided to stick vanilla OG Skyrim on my Steam Deck, simply to see how it ran. Like you I have played it on various hardware over the years and I was curious as to how it would run (specifically Markarth). Awhile later I realized I was getting tired. Not tired of playing the game mind you, just tired. It was then I realized just how long I had been playing. Just shy of 40 hours.
Settings all maxed out (including things like view distance and whatnot), it ran fine. Average fps was somewhere in the low 50s or upper 40s and could have been improved with some tweaking to the sliders. Even Markarth only dipped it to around 30 and then only when I went out of my way to push the game engine.
Generally I would say Skyrim is unplayable without mods. This video mentions 200... at my worst I had something like 700 (I got good at merging mods in order to get around that 255 limit on active mods). Or I would have until my last sleep cycle (this is the phrase I use, it is more accurate, even if it is more cumbersome). I really only intended to mess around a bit, with my only actual goal being to see how the performance was in Markarth along with performance in general. I was genuinely surprised at how engrossed I was with zero mods.
fun fact: A total of around 7.8 million frames had been rendered by that point in time. (one of the performance overlays the Steam Deck can use tracks that) 24 hours @ 60fps = ~5 million frames.
edit: I did a little math based on the total frames rendered and time I was playing, turns out my average fps was ~55.

One thing you missed (that I honestly expected you to cover): when you spend ages downloading & installing mods & getting them all to work right, then going for a full playthrough, and and before you're even 1/4 the way through the game Bethesda releases the 17th game version update on Steam, breaking most of your mods and destroying your save, forcing you to either start over with a new save with only what few mods still work with the new game version, OR just wait 3 months for all your most important to get updated so they can work again, THEN start playing the game again, and for all the mods you were using that are now both broken and abandoned, HOPE you can find something else up-to-date that makes a decent replacement.

I defineitly get that the whole drauger thing can become quickly annoying and we could have probably gotten many other types of enemies in dungeons like more vampires, necromancers, and other monsters to replace them, but the reason why they are so invested is because Skyrim is based on Norse mythology or Scandanavia, and the drauger are the undead in that myth. Also, I think another thing that drives die hard Skyrim players like myself crazy is after you've played it for like the 5th time or so. You start to realize that the open world of Skyrim is actually pretty empty, and Skyrim is suppose to be one of the most ancient homelands in Tamriel, and when I think of something as ancient like that. I think of seeing ruins all over the place, ancient towers, etc. It does just feels a bit empty. I don't think Oblivion felt as empty as Skyrim does.

  • @Zach-gr4gh
    @Zach-gr4gh 2 роки тому +94

I love Skyrim. It’s the perfect power fantasy game for me in many many ways- but I’m going to roast it/list it’s problems. Shout out to Carter Landis for pointing out the dragon flying off to fight someone else during a fight-
1- as above, dragons blue balling us by flying away in a middle of fight. So annoying if you don’t have dragonrend yet and have to chug stamina potions just running after them.
2- lack of immersion in romance options. All the female characters have either one voice actor or another. Marriage is a dull machine like affair with some helpful bonuses but overall non existent or impactful to the story. I’ve installed and played other rpgs like Witcher and dragon age inquisition just for half the feeling I want to experience romancing a badass female character in a fantasy setting. No sex, no romance scenes, nothing. You wear a piece of jewellery, go up to a generic female npc companion, say let’s get married and boom, done. No complication or epic quests or anything remotely interesting undertaken in the romance whatsoever. And you can’t romance the best/most attractive characters like Karliah and Brynjolf, or Serana or Freya from the dlc either:
    3. Lack of completion in main/important quests/main campaign storyline is too damn short. No resolution to the paathurnax dilemma unless you install mods.
4.faction quests just become bounty hunter guilds once you finish their main stories.
    5. No real consequences/immersion for the civil war. No epic battles ravaging the country of Skyrim and posing a real threat to everyone and the environment unless you intervene and stop it.
    6. Dragon fights become boring and receptive quickly. Melee combat itself is repetitive and the same with no features like form training or styles to change things up. Can’t block while dual wielding. No spears.
    7. Rag doll effects and it’s unpredictably, and how shoddy the physics engine is sometimes.
    8. Lack of agility or skill in character movement. You can’t fly, flip or jump high or smash through doors like the super powered Demi god you’re apparently supposed to be. No real long term benefits to being the Dragonborn like enchanted skill trees or upgrades other than the ability to shout at dragons and ragdoll your enemies and that’s it.
    9. I hate the dwarf dungeons too. Enemies and design is just so bland and repetitive and dull and just all the same and too much of a chore to get through. Falmer and cave aesthetics aren’t scary enough. Would love a more darkness filled Moria esque feel to exploring caves set under a fantasy Nordic landscape.
That’s about all I can think of.

They should have done dragons like they did in dragonage. Optional, unique boss fights in hidden areas maybe with a quest attached. Like each hold could have had one or two named dragons with lore attached and special dialogue.
And rebuilding the blades and the parthanax dilemma could have been a key point to several dragon fights. The souls gathered could have been special shouts...I could go on and on

I've played Skyrim since it first came out and still actively play it. One my my biggest annoyances is and has been, how people still talk to you like you're lower than them after completing the main quest line. Like sure, you don't know of me or my accomplishments so far, why should you? But after defeating Alduin and literally saving Skyrim? Eh, yeah. You should know who I am by now.
This is especially annoying with the guards.
They acknowledge every one of my other accomplishments, except the fact that I literally saved the world.
No, guard. You're not the Dragonborn. I LITERALLY ATE ALDUINS SOUL. Lmao

I agree with you although the guards do acknowledge you saving Skyrim and everyone if you hold off on fighting the civil war until after you beat the main storyline. There's a quest that you complete if you don't do the civil war quests that enables you to forge a temporary truce between the empire and stormcloaks which is a bit tricky to complete in a way where the terms of the truce are equally fair for both factions but it's well worth the effort. Having the amulet you get for becoming the guild master of the thieves guild in riften helps but I highly recommend saving so you can revert until the empire and stormcloaks both agree the terms of the truce are fair. I forget the name of the quest but I know it is triggered after accompanying Delphine and Esbern to Skyhaven temple. Once you do that you'll have to go talk to the Jarl of Whiterun and he should tell you that he won't aid you to trap Odaviin unless a temporary truce is agreed upon.

@@mcplayer6456 if you'd like to know how to get the guards in Skyrim to acknowledge your achievement of defeating Alduin I have posted a reply to Black Cat's comment on this or feel free to msg me directly and I'll explain how to do so.
