I just built this exact moss pole yesterday before seeing your video. That’s wild. One thing I will try next time is using hot sand to soften the pipe at the bottom. That will allow for me to form a loop out of the PVC at the bottom of the pot. This should add a lot of stability to the PVC pole. Yesterday I also took twine and wove it into both sides of the plastic chicken wire like you would do a ladder stitch. That allowed for me to pull the twine to cinch up the plastic mesh. Which made it a lot easier to apply the zip ties. My beautiful wife also pointed out that I can use the longer part of the plastic chicken wire to make it as tall as I like. Which was a duhuh moment for me.
I am so happy to have stumbled across your video. I have been wanting to add some moss poles to my plants but the idea of how to water them was keeping me from doing it. With your self watering setup I am no longer nervous about adding moss poles!
This was wonderful! Yes, it's obvious that you're an experienced teacher. You predicted many of the questions your audience might have, and you addressed each in enough detail. Well done! I'm building one of these tomorrow!
Hi I just seen your video love your plants. Just a little FYI there are pvc connections that are flat and about 1/2 in space from pvc. They will sit nicely on the bottom of the pot and stand up on its own. I add a little bit of glue to mine. Thank you for the idea.
Love the tutorial. Thanks for sharing. I especially like the string at the bottom as I seem to have the wobble problem with my poles, now off to make my pole. Yay
What a great invention. Get a patent and sell them. I haven’t seen any other versions of a self watering moss pole anywhere yet. This was so educational, thank you very much
Came across your video by accident .So glad I did. This is a great idea . I literally just bought materials to make my first moss poles today . Now I need to go back and get PVC pipe ( i have wicking ) Thank you for the tutorial. Subscribed 🌿🙂
Thank you for this! I just put a cebu blue pothos on a regular moss pole and that dries out within a day, so I have to keep watering it - really annoying. So I'm going to modify it to make it a self-watering pole. Thanks again! Great tip!
These plants look awesome. Thank you for showing us how to have cool earthy stuff in our house without making it a daily chore. I'm probably gonna get some of these. I'm pretty sure the air in my house is stale as hell.
I’ve been thinking of making my own moss pole and finally got around to buying all the supplies. Thanks for all the info I’m gonna try this this weekend!
algea will overtake all these mosspoles in the long run, they just dont tell you that cause otherwise their amazon affiliate revenue goes away. The whole self watering moss pole is bad anyway cause the rope just deteriorates
Nice video, one thing though, i have found conflicting answers but the maximum wicking height is around 30 cm or a foot, that is not a lot so almost all of the water in the pipe is wasted and only serves to create a pocket of stagnant water... also the sphagnum moss is if not better just as good at wicking water than the rope so idk it seems like there must be a better way.
Not true. I have a 4ft moss pole with wicking cord that wicks all the way to the bottom of the sphagnum. You have to use actual wicking cord for it to work.
Love this video. I love the breakdown of the video in the description it makes it easy to fall back on the time line for reference. By the way where did you get your pots? There are nice.
I'm glad I came across this video, your guy-wires for stability are a great solution to heavier vines, and I agree that it looks cool! I'm wondering if you can update us on how well the wicking has worked. Is the wicking rope holding up against rot? Is too much water ending up at the bottom of the pole while the top dries out? Is there anything you would do differently now that you've had this set up for a while?
Hello, your video is quite helpful but I think that I will use coated metal chicken wire because the plastic one are too wobbly and fragile, the one in metal are more stable, thanks for the tips
Can you use a cotton wick? I've got a fair number of self watering pots and such I've always gone with synthetic materials because they don't break down.
Did the same, even with a special self watering wick for plants and it doesnt work at wall. The water stays inside the pipe, i wrapped the wick neatly around the pipe, just as you did and it does exactly nothing for me. The moss dries out and i end up spraying it with water from the outside to keep it moist. Saw some people using 3 vertical lined up wicks, perhaps for exactly that reason because the wick you wrap around just doesnt transport the water well enough.
I built my moss pole but the moss is drying out so I'm not sure what I did wrong. The wick has water at the bottom. I removed the cap and put it directly in a pot of water to make sure there's enough.
If you used microfiber cloth it won't degrade over time like moss does. Moss has to be changed out yearly but microfiber doesn't and you could use any color to match the walls of your home.
moss dosnt need to be changed yearly at all ive had one going for 5 years. plus lots of others for a few years and all my moss is alive and well i have to trim it back sometimes..
Yeah! I wasn't so happy with them. The ones that I got are made of coco fibers and I've only seen one set of roots from my raphidaphora tetrasperma take to them.
Instead of strings, try mounting it to a board with holes drilled into it then the soil and plant roots can weigh the board down keeping the poles in place. Think of it being in an L shape.

I love your self watering system. This makes a lot of sense to me versus watering the stagnum moss and making a mess.
You sure are good with that pole ❤️
I've got a lot of practice at this stage in my life.

Absolutely excellent!!! 🪴

hi do you have any picture of what they look like? so i can get them
@@t-imethey are called flange fittings
Thanks for the Recycling suggestion - it all matters even the small stuff, especially with over 8 Billion people on the Earth.
Great video!
But when your plant outgrows the mosspole, how do you extend it?
This is a brilliant idea, my monstera will love this - lots of aerial roots coming in with nowhere to go!
It's pretty awesome to see them root into the poles and the leaves will get even bigger :D
Love the tutorial. Thanks for sharing. I especially like the string at the bottom as I seem to have the wobble problem with my poles, now off to make my pole. Yay
Just getting into the moss pole arena. Thanks for the info
Thank you so much Mr. for great insructions! 🤓

That's funny because I did too

You're so welcome! We're gonna get that all nice and fixed right up.
Love the pots. I have my hanging plants on the coco coir pole from Amazon. I water it when dry
If you keep stroking it will it get bigger?
The more you stroke it, the bigger the mess gets.
😏
I’ve been thinking of making my own moss pole and finally got around to buying all the supplies. Thanks for all the info I’m gonna try this this weekend!
Ty for sharing. I’m going to try this!
aesthetic for shore
Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea and the instructions were great
Thanks! Could you give a review on how well does it self water? Is the moss equally wet everywhere?
awesome. Thank u. what a genius idea!
Great tutorial. I’m concerned about bacteria or mold growing on the pvc and wick over time so wondering if you’ve had any sign of that or concerns.
In that case I'd just use some hydrogen peroxide
algea will overtake all these mosspoles in the long run, they just dont tell you that cause otherwise their amazon affiliate revenue goes away. The whole self watering moss pole is bad anyway cause the rope just deteriorates
Really helpful and explained all my beginner questions!
Thanks very well put together thanks
Your vibe makes me happy ( peaceful happy) thank you.
Hiya 👋👋 happy to have a local atx person to follow 🥰 you gave me a little more confidence to do this now lol 😆 can't wait to try on my Tetrasperma 😌
Haha my Tetrasperma is already rooting into it so I'm pretty happy with this solution.

Very good tutorial! I am just curious if the cotton thread ever get moldy?
Awesome! Where did you get the pots? I love them. 🤗👍🏾
Genius !! ❤

So cool!!! I can’t wait to try this!!
Have fun! I hope things work out for you and your new baby plant!
I appreciate how concise your video is.
Thank you so much!!
great idea tho. i just have one problem with it... what if i need to extend or cut the moss pole?!
Thanks 😊
Thank u for this vjdeo i just subcribe im doing my pole and your was 9the quickest
This is the best DIY moss-pole video I've seen yet. Question: how did you attach the nail prongs to the other moss-pole? Thank you.
Yes I have this same question 🙋🏻♀️ I was hoping it was going to be added in this video

Same thing happened with mine. I was thinking of drilling a few tiny holes in the pipe over the length and try that instead

I seem to get more excited as I throw things😂
How to roll the biggest blunt.. im going to try to make this in the spring.
lol I was thinking that too hahaha
so I made this the way you said and my moss is still dry am I supposed to use more string or something?

I was wondering if you’d do tutorial on this lol, those from Amazon suck, they are made kinda from synthetic material not sure if it’s ok to use
Yeah! I wasn't so happy with them. The ones that I got are made of coco fibers and I've only seen one set of roots from my raphidaphora tetrasperma take to them.
What a tall pole
Such a good pole and please come bk
Is there a trick to get the cotton rope to wick? I made a 6 ft pole and it won't wick 😢
It's been a month now and I have a dry moss pole with no way to water it except for in the shower or outside. This doesn't work!
A cotton wick will rot. Best to use a manmade fiber like nylon rope

Bout to toss some dollars on that pole climbing plant 🥵
Lmk if you need me to help you find one! I always love engaging someone elses' problem over my own
Gravity has left the chat
Forget the patent idea, I just seen several self watering moss poles. Sorry
Why is the video muted? 🧐
Stop promote self watering moss poles, they suck and the rope just falls apart over time. Better off making a normall one.
