@plantsbymelissa You got me started on my moss pole journey. I'm currently propping some marble cuttings to put on a pole after seeing how lovely yours is, and I have a "Hawaiian" pothos on a pole already and she's sizing up nicely, and I'm thinking about putting a "regular " golden pothos on a pole just to see if it is any different from a Hawaiian. My cebu isn't sizing up though. In your experience does a cebu take longer to start sizing up?
THIS is the video I've been looking for... I've been growing hanging plants and sitting plants and creeping plants long enough. It is time...I need to give my ladies some poles to climb!
a little expernace with moss poles i hear in the first 20 seconds I look in the background every single plant is a moss pole.. I'm pretty sure that's more then a little experience there haha
I just put my Memaw’s 50yr old golden pothos on a pole also! It looks like we’re going to start our upsizing journey together! That’s pretty awesome!!!! I just love your videos girl! 🫶🏼☺️🪴Literally perfect timing!
@@plantsbymelissa right! I can’t wait to buy everything and begin the journey of growing big leaves! On your Amazon shop there is no moss to add to the moss pole. Can you please add that for me😁 everything else is in my cart😁
Thank You. Great Video! I have studied Moss Poles for the past couple of months. I'm not ready for one just yet, but I may try it in the future. A lot of people are going to the plastic poles like you showed in the video, but others need the sturdiness of the wire poles for tall poles and heavy plants. The Leca Queen adds a metal rod to her poles for support. I do want to find a way to securely anchor the pole and pot so that they do not tip over and so that the pole is straight. It will drive me crazy if it leans. LOL I have some ideas on that and watering them. I always seem to be creating and trying out ideas to solve problems. I appreciate all your comments. Right now, I am finding that some of the soil that I have, when thoroughly watered on plants that need to dry out and then be given a good soak and drained are holding too much water causing overwatering problems. Despite using a potting mix, cactus mix and lots of perilite -50% or more. So, I need to rethink things a bit and change my soil to more of an aeroid mix with the bark, etc. I find that most everyone I watch on you tube is using an aeroid mix. I am retired and the past few months I have been getting back into my plants, expanding, learning, and studying lots of videos. Your videos are in my top list. I have some Golden Pothos that a friend gave me-had some leaves 3-4" or more. I did single leaf cuttings and propagated them in water. The 1st 6 I did have been in a pot for a few weeks and I am finally having some new leaves pop up!!! I have 2 jars full of cuttings that I am ready to pot t very soon-again single leaf cuttings. I am going to try more of an aeroid mix to put them in. I also have some little leaves in water for some kind of Monstera, I have to ask my friend again, what kind it is. Small leaves 2 and 3", so I have a lot of TLC to give this one. Best of all I am having a great time with my plants!!!! 🙂
I'm so happy you are getting back into plants again! That is the most important thing is that you are just having fun with the hobby! Definitely give a aroid mix a go :) You have to get used to watering it differently and that all depends on your specific environment but the plants love the aeration! As far as moss poles go - you just have to do one. It won't be perfect but you'll learn so much in the process of what to do and what not to do and what you like, etc. I thought I knew what I was doing back in the day but I really had no clue lol. You'll be so happy once it starts growing and it's a great feeling of accomplishment too! I can't describe it but it's just incredible to watch them grow like this 🥰
Thank You! @@plantsbymelissa Yes, I am having fun and learning by doing is a great way to try out things. It really helps to have some knowledge from videos like yours as I go about this. 🥰
thanks Melissa, for another great video. I started my day listening to your voice and repotting my white princess. I also have a golden pothos on a moss pole and suddenly the leaves got really big, half way up. I wish i could show you! I actually thought it was a marble queen until you inspired me to look up the difference between the two.
Just got all the supplies and put some vines of my golden pothos in water. Now its waiting times till there are water roots and then I will set up my first moss pole! So exciting
Funny you chose the golden pothos for this video today .. earlier i gifted my best friend a golden pothos cutting that looked identical to the cuttings in this video 😅 i didn't get them on any poles though .. but now I'm extremely tempted to start that journey ! LoL love your content dear ! Your plants are so beautiful and so are you !!!! Inside and out ! Happy propagating !! 😊

Of course! You should go for it! I never knew I needed moss poles haha now that I have them they are one of my favorite things about collecting and growing plants 🥰
Just started a manjula on a pole , can’t wait till it climbs. I am using wire with coconut coir chips like my other poles. I water my poles with a sprayer it goes so fast that way. Thanks for your helpful ideas.
Love the new intro! Very informative. Here for all the tips 😊I’ve been following along your moss pole journey for a while now and have just had to extend 2 of my poles. 🥰
Thank you so much! I keep playing around with the intro - I am so indecisive sometimes! lol congrats on our moss poles!! It's so fun watching them grow 🥰
OMG Melissa I messed up! I did a moss pole like you not long ago from one of your old video and I used potting soil. I did add lots of perlite but I used Frog sotting soil. The blue bag one. Bat Gamo in it etc. Then put my moss pole in it. Yikes. I do need to do another one so this time I using a very airy mix like you. I want big leaves on my Pothos. It is beautiful that I took cuttings from. They are rooted and ready. So VERY GLAD YOU DID THIS!!! Thank you! Learning.....
That is so okay! I used to do that too :) When I first made poles I had SO much potting soil in my mix. I have definitely learned a lot along the way and having a chunky mix helps so much with being able to water the pole more often!
Great informative video!! I started three golden vines (about the same lengh as yous) on a pole mid June. The leaves were tiny! I am shocked at how fast it has grown and sized up!! I have it on my porch, morning south/east facing sun. Our high heat in Northern California, with daily pole watering, didn't faze it. It's almost to the top of it's 4 foot pole. The leaves have tripled in size!!
Thank you for generously sharing all your secrets in this Golden Pothos Moss Pole tutorial from start to finish! 🌿💫 Your step-by-step guide is incredibly helpful, and I can't wait to try it myself.
TFS Melissa. I love ❤️ this video as I've been thinking 🤔 about doing this since I watched one of your other moss pole videos, and seeing how big and beautiful it makes your plants 🌿☘️🌵👌👍
Go for it! I didn't know what I was doing in the beginning but so glad I started and they are one of my favorite things about growing and collecting plants now. It won't be perfect at first and you learn so much along the way but you just have to do one :) Pothos are perfect to start with because they climb so well which makes it rewarding :) good luck if you start one!!
great video....thank you for reinforcing the idea to be patient, as it takes time. so many times I watch these videos and I am frustrated that my plants are huge overnight
definitely requires lots of patience! If you can get past the first few months of them not growing much then you can do it! Once they start climbing and attaching they'll grow better but takes them a little while to get started 🫶
I've got pothos growing out of several fishtanks. One of them is about 20 feet long with about 5 different offshoots. I always thought pothos had normal leaves like the ones in the store but apparently fish tanking them makes them grow huge. The stems are like an inch wide and the leaves are bigger than my head.
Hi Melissa, I recently came across your reels and you tube channel and l have to say that l am absolutely loving your wisdom and all the wonderful information you share. I am in Australia and cannot find the Osmocote Plus you shared. What would be something equivalent l could use?
First time I have stumbled on this video. I have not seen anything about miss poke in such detail! Thank you. Where do I find the clear plastic sheet to make the pole?
Thank you! They are grow thiccly poles I can link them for you! I used the Large size here www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQR6GVB3?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B0BQR6GVB3&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.27D4Z5CKST4WL&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin
I love watching your videos and learning things every day! Do you have a page or area we can go to in order to see where you order all of your supplies?
Hi Melissa! Thank you so much for this detailed tutorial. I love your videos and all the valuable insights you share with us freely. I do have a question thou. I have am existing golden pothos that growing well and I attach it around a coconut husk pole (this is before I discovered moss pole). So the leaves are not growing any bigger and I think the pole is too hard for the arial roots to anchor into it. My question is can I simply transfer my plant and replace the coconut husk pole with moss pole? Will it work or I need to start fresh with cuttings? Thanks for your inputs and advise!!! ❤
I did the same thing. Just gently pull the roots off the coir pole then feed them through the moss pole. They will attach easily if you use velcro or grafting tape to secure the plant to the pole. Now I have leaves bigger than my head! And already extended it! I did this the end of May. I hope you have good luck!
@@maryperry5910 thanks for your advise. I think I realised what I did wrong. I am twirling my pothos around the pile instead of attaching them in a straight line. 😉 I will do as you suggest, but will have to trim them coz they are too long. Do you think the existing leaves will grow larger if the arial roots grow and anchor themselves into the moss??
Hi! Thank you so much! You can definitely do what Mary suggested or you can start over with cuttings on a new pole. It's really up to you! The existing leaves will stay the size they are now. So if you have longer vines, only the new growth will grow bigger. If you want larger leaves to grow more quickly then you will probably want to start over with cuttings so they can really grow into the moss. The coir poles usually only provide support and they aren't damp so the plants can have a harder time attaching to it and climbing to mature ☺️
Can i add a moss pole to my golden pothos and have part of it trailing part on a pole or is it an either or? I just recently added a coco coir pole to my deliciosa and now im wishing id done a plastic moss pole instead
Thanks so much for responding! About to start my first pole with a monstera adansonii 🥰 Another super quick question: the white pot you use, that doesn’t have a drainage hole does it?
If your showing just the front of the plant as it grows up couldn’t you pull the pole to the back of the pot and stabilize with zip ties?..also can you place the pole inside and adhere it to the pot then fill it in the base with substrate then moss..you are so informational and positive..thanks for all your help
Thank you! hmm, I haven't tried a pole pulling it to the back of the pot. I always center them and it seems to have great stability that way. Once the roots grow into the soil you can't move it around unless you unpot it but even then you will have a lot of roots that have grown. You can definitely fill the pole and base however you want to and whatever method works for you. I just find this way easier for me :)
Hey, I have a large pothos to repot. Our shops sell only the coco fiber poles. I had one of those poles but its very coarse and hard to water. Should I look for another type pole for better result? thanks
You can do it! It seems intimating at first because you don't have any experience but it gets easier! I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning. They honestly do the work themselves you just have to water, feed and provide light :)
Hey Mate, A new friend is here…. I was having small amount of golden pothos but it seems in couple of month they grown too much 😅and I had to cut them off and my mom was shouting too. Anyway I m in love with silver satin pothos and off course your channel 😉
When you were talking about not worrying about the leaves position yet…what do you do when you have larger more established plants on poles and the leaves just won’t sit right? I have a Philodendron Maximum on a pole and it’s doing amazing but the leaves are driving me crazy cause they keep wanting to turn backwards almost, away from the front of the pole. Any tips? I’ve seen someone tie them up somehow but I’m not sure how to do that or what to use for it. Thanks for all your tips as always…so helpful!!!
Sometimes I use some elastic string to position the vines closer together! I've done that for multiple plants behind me it helps with the internodal spacing and it brings them closer to the pole so it saves space too. The string I use is clear so you can't really notice it but it's annoying to tie haha. I have to mess with it for awhile to get it to work right. You can use craft string too or anything that you can find. The leaves may look a little weird at first but once you get the vines positioned right they'll move again towards the light. I'll link what I use here: www.amazon.com/dp/B07MTZX8BC?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B07MTZX8BC&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.27D4Z5CKST4WL&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin
@@plantsbymelissa Thanks so much! It’s nice to hear I’m not the only one who it takes a long time to figure out the positioning of the string and how to tie it down. Lol. I gave up multiple times after trying and I finally just tied the first one somewhat successfully last night! I used that green stretchy fabric gardening tie but clear elastic string would be much better cause the thick green tie is an eyesore! Ty!
Please tell me the mixture of the potting soil items you used and also once the new roots come poking out of the pot you would just repot in a bigger sizer pot correct no more than 2" wider ?
Hi Melissa! I love this video so much and im soon gonna try it with my pothos (so exited). I need to first start with propagating a few stems in water-on that note- can I add the myco powder to the water pot to promote fast and through root growth?
Great video! If one already has a large pathos plant with long vines, and you want to throw in a moss pole, would the plant be tied to the pole with the nodes facing the vine?
Great video! I'm trying to revive a Pothos on a moss pole. Problem is it has a lot of vines, and some are really long but leafy only at the end :( Should I use these (wrap the leafletss parts and the nodes there will come to life) or just trim them and start all over....
I shared a short recently on it and I just posted a plant update on my collection yesterday. I go over all my moss poles first. It’s climbing very well already and just extended it 🫶🏻
Of course! Happy to share! You can definitely add a small plant to a moss pole :) I would make sure to loosen the soil and get all the roots down far enough in the pot and fill up with your chunky mix. Then attach any vines that have grown close to the pole like I did here and it will start climbing in no time. Established plants are sometimes better to do than cuttings because their root system is more developed so it won't take them as long to situate in the pot!
@plantsbymelissa Thank you Melissa, I appreciate the feedback and the concise method that you take us through the steps. Your collection is beautiful 🪴🌿. Continued success in all of your endeavors. It's so much fun learning from you👍👏
Love this video! I'm getting my marble queen in two days! Would it matter what width my moss pole should be? I don't know if I should do a medium or large moss pole. 🤷🏻♀️
About the plastic sheet/moss pole: Very intriguing, but would there be a risk of mold or rot? I live in a very humid Mid-Atlantic state and wonder if that would be a concern. Thanks.
If the roots dig into the moss pole as it grows and eventually I have to change the pot. How can I go about doing that? Do I yank the roots out out of the moss pole if the plant outgrew the pole?
I’ve watched all of your watering videos on moss poles and I’m currently starting three plants on moss poles but I wonder how you can tell when the pot is dry since the moss pole can throw off the weight of the plant especially when the pole is watered but the substrate in the pot isn’t. Do you use a skewer to tell or is it just by sight of the medium and the way the plant looks? I usually judge a plants dryness by the weight and this is throwing me! lol help! Love love love your content btw!
Repotting my pothos for the first time when i came across this video. So it's stated in the video that you want to train your pothos on that moss thingy early...so what does that mean for a full grown mature pothos? Can they be trained to climb? Or are they too set in their ways? Is it best to leave her growing the way shes been? Her vines are just so long and im new to this, she was my dads and he gave her to me for my new apartment, since my lease says i cant have a pet. Oh, and would you recommend miracle grow pour and feed singles for a pothos plant? Thanks for reading, looking forward to learning the tricks n trades so I dont end up killing my green beauty!
Thanks to you, I added my marble queen to a moss pole a few weeks ago and she’s thrivinggggggg now ❤❤❤ I’m so happy

Thanks for the tutorial! Very helpful!
You're welcome!
I struggle with keeping my moss poles moist enough, thanks for the helpful tips!
First time I have stumbled on this video. I have not seen anything about miss poke in such detail! Thank you.
Where do I find the clear plastic sheet to make the pole?
Thank you! They are grow thiccly poles I can link them for you! I used the Large size here www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQR6GVB3?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B0BQR6GVB3&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.27D4Z5CKST4WL&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin
@@plantsbymelissa thanks
Just got a manjula! Hopefully this will help it get huge and gorgeous
Yes!! I have mine growing up and it's sizing up well but still small. It seems to love climbing so far!
@@plantsbymelissa Thank you!!! I'm excited to try this out this weekend. Love ❤️ you videos!!!
Can i add a moss pole to my golden pothos and have part of it trailing part on a pole or is it an either or? I just recently added a coco coir pole to my deliciosa and now im wishing id done a plastic moss pole instead
This is awesome! How long would you say the roots should be before you take a prop and put it on a pole?
So glad! Theses roots took about 3-4 weeks to grow so whenever you see some secondary roots forming you should be good to pot up!
Thanks so much for responding! About to start my first pole with a monstera adansonii 🥰
Another super quick question: the white pot you use, that doesn’t have a drainage hole does it?
This was so helpful! I can already tell what I did wrong with my poles haha
Glad it was helpful!!
I'm excited to see how this does. My guess is it's going to take off like a rocket!
Thank you! It's already doing so well! Busy working on some new soil roots but I imagine it will start growing in no time :)
Should I look for another type pole for better result? thanks
Thx for the tips, love your videos. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!! 💗
That was very helpful thank you so much ❤❤❤❤❤
You are so welcome!
Thank you. I have order items for trying a moss pole, never done it before.
You can do it! It seems intimating at first because you don't have any experience but it gets easier! I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning. They honestly do the work themselves you just have to water, feed and provide light :)
YAY! I’ve been waiting for this!!!! ❤😊
Hey Mate,
A new friend is here….
I was having small amount of golden pothos but it seems in couple of month they grown too much 😅and I had to cut them off and my mom was shouting too.
Anyway I m in love with silver satin pothos and off course your channel 😉
fingers crossed for your golden 💚💛
Thank you!!
how long and what time do you put the light on for your photos?
Thanks for this video! It’s perfect!
You're so welcome!!
Love this video! I can’t want to try this process. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Ty!
When you are adding in the moss it looks like a major super joint!
Your plants are beautiful!!
What or how would you do just a wood pole would it stand into the pot and would you just water the soil??
Very helpful video❤️
5:12 if my vines are growing down out of pot and I clip to root and start on a pole, the leaves will be upsidedown? Will it fix itself on its own?
What type of pothos is that one behind you? I’ve learned so much from you. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Where can I buy those clear pole, I want some of that. Thank you for your video it’s so informative.
So beautiful💚
Thank you! 😊
Hi Melissa. Where do you purchase your clear pots with the drainage holes?
I saw your pothos in this video like laddering upwards, how it is growing ?
I shared a short recently on it and I just posted a plant update on my collection yesterday. I go over all my moss poles first. It’s climbing very well already and just extended it 🫶🏻
Thanks for sharing your tips 👏 👏. Can you transfer a full potted plant to a moss pole? I have a Golden and Marble Queen Pothos in 4" pots.
As the plant starts to climb, will it set new roots in the moss, or do you need to keep taping it?
About the plastic sheet/moss pole: Very intriguing, but would there be a risk of mold or rot? I live in a very humid Mid-Atlantic state and wonder if that would be a concern. Thanks.
Question, can you you moss poke with leca?
Such a pro video ty x
Thank you 🥺
Have you used tree fern fiber for poles? Awesome
Hi
Can you add some guidance on what goes in healthy Soil mix you added in Pathos plant
combination of Compost+Perlite +charcoal etc etc
Do you have to cut a vine and then once rooted you put it on a moss pole ?
exciting 💚💚💚
