Here's another link to the watering globes! www.amazon.com/dp/B085VGXRK1?tag=onamzmeli0992-20&linkCode=ssc&creativeASIN=B085VGXRK1&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.27D4Z5CKST4WL
I don’t have any moss poles but I enjoy learning about yours. In addition to the plant aesthetic of your poles I think they add a nice visual aesthetic to your plant room. With a boost from one’s imagination the clusters of the poles look a bit like a cityscape, at least I think so. Very nice and again, thanks for the education.
Perfect timing today is watering day. My poles originally had pvc and wicking rope. They were impossible to keep wet. Right after you did your moss pole video so I remade all mine and bought the watering globes. I'm learning so much watching your videos. Your very personable/relatable. Thank You
I ordered these a few weeks ago & love them! I had some that were the full globes but were so hard to get the water into & then flipping them upside down without making a mess. These are ingenious! Love them!
This is really cool, Melissa. I wonder if you've considered trying wick watering just for the poles. If there was a wick attached to the poles--ideally inside--but it might work just as well if strung along back and tacked in place with pins, you could just put the end into a bucket of water every so often. You could probably water several poles at once. It would certainly be less labor intensive. They make wicks for bottom-watering in all different thicknesses for different applications and you can buy it in long lengths. It's not expensive. I'm really inspired to get some of my pothos on poles now!
New to moss poles and found this very helpful. Used the link and bought a pair. The open top is new to me and should be a big time saver. Only have two poles and they dry out very fast. Thank you!
Hi! I am new to your channel, and I saw your last watering moss pole video and wanted to ask if you tried the globes 😅 and yeah, you did! I'm so glad that it's works for your poles and you don't have to move them anymore 😊 Most of my plans in self watering pots with pon, so I just put wick cord into my moss poles and the end to reservoir. Works just fine! Maybe when you are going to build a new pole, you can try this method. Just put the wick end to a glass of water outside of your pot. Thanks for your videos, I really like them 😊
Hi Melissa. I love your videos! I’ve been an outdoor planter since I started 4 yrs ago. Just this year I’ve become addicted to indoor plants and have quite a nice small collection but, I’ve lost some. I’m still entry level, learning and learning what works. Two questions: 1. How do use nematodes and mosquito dunks (you stated this in a previous reply to comment) with your indoor plants where it works for you? 2. What kind of water do you use? Distilled water is so expensive and hard to find these days. It’s no longer on market shelves and again really expensive on Amazon where I can find it. I’m in need of help. 🙏🏻
Do you still have to moisten the sides of the poles so the water doesn't just run all over? Or does this spike being in the center allow for completely dry poles to be watered without pre-moistening?
I don’t have to pre-moisten them! Once the globe is situated it will slowly drip down and saturate the entire pole. The top doesn’t get watered where the globe is so if I have a plant at the top I have to moisten that part 😊
Melissa I have a question. When you’re watering your moss poles isn’t the point to keep it wet for the roots that are growing into the pole? If you stop above the leaf, doesn’t that rob the roots of water?
Yes, it’s important to keep them moist but I find it continues to drip several more inches. I do a thorough watering once a week so I would rather give a little less mid week so I don’t overwater the soil. It just takes some getting used to. When you have so many poles it’s hard to get the watering perfect every time on all of them. I try my best to keep them moist but they do dry out occasionally. As long as they don’t go dry for too long they’ll be okay 😊
This is fabulous and I think I'm now onboard with moss poles. I think I'll poke the hole with a dowel or chopstick first as I wouldn't want that glass shattering in my hand. 😬
I usually water the soil once a week and the poles every 3-4 days just enough to moisten them so the water doesn’t run down and over water the soil.. kind of confusing but u get the hang of it after a while!
Hello! Do you still water your moss poles like this? I would like to know if this worked in the long term before I buy them since they are a bit pricey. Thank you!!
When you make the pole, couldn’t you just lay a straw, bamboo stick or some similar object towards the top end? Then, you could just remove the stick after the pole is made? (For a place to insert the watering device)
I suppose you could but it might make a mess pulling it out with the moss since it’s a fresh pole. The moss tends to be a little bit of a mess until it stars to compact more. It’s pretty easy to shimmy it in from the top 😂
What do you do if you go on vacation or need to be away for a week? I want to do moss poles but I’m away for a week about once a year and i don’t want to put all the work in if one week away is going to kill the root system in the poles.
Since using nematodes recently to battle thrips and the use of mosquito dunks, I don't see too many around. I see them occasionally but for the most part they're gone ☺️
What would happen to the plant if you let the moss dry out completely? Say the pot has been watered regularly but forgot or neglected the moss pole & it dried out. What happens to the plant?
It depends on the specific plant's hardiness when the roots dry out but if you really really let it fully dry out past the point of return then the roots in the pole will desiccate and the next time you water they will start to rot (dry rot)
Is the entire world sponsored by Amazon? The regular water globes are so much cheaper and they do not "splash" all over the place. Or use a cheap water bottle with holes in the lid and tip upside down.
A typical plastic cup with holes in the bottom fits right into the top of a normal sized moss pole. Put the cup in and fill it, save yourself $20. For cost… you probably already have the cheap party cups. On a side note, The way people shove these into things a moss pole/soil gives me the heebie-bageebies from chemistry classes. Just a matter of time before one breaks and someone unintentionally inserts a glass watering globe into their hand.

Thank you so so much!! I feel like I want to make more poles since they’re easier to water for me now 😂
I ordered these a few weeks ago & love them! I had some that were the full globes but were so hard to get the water into & then flipping them upside down without making a mess. These are ingenious! Love them!
I’m so happy these work so well for me now. It makes pole watering so easy and I love how simple they are to use 🥹
This was very helpful! I’m looking forward to creating several moss poles for my Hoya and this method will be a life saver! Mainly theirs 🙂🌿🍃🌱
Thanks for sharing. After seeing your video I bought 3 watering globes and I love them. Game changer for sure
Love the tips. When I’m ready to try it I’m heading to your Amazon shop! Thanks!
Love, love, love this idea. What a time saver. Thank you for keeping us informed.
You’re welcome! I love how easy they are to use and I can just fill them up and do something else and before I know it they’re all watered 🥹
Love the globes....would work nice with any plant and like you said no turning upside down! Exciting :) so many will be happy you featured these!
Thank you! It wasn’t my idea but so thrilled when I saw them being used on insta 🥹

Wicks only work temporarily if going of vacation for example. They are very prone to failure over time.

Yay! Thank you! I love them and they are such a time saver for me!

Omg, girl!!!! Genius! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! I can’t take credit for the idea but I was so excited to try it and just can’t go back now lol it’s so much easier.
This was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful! 🥰
Great way to keep them moist!!!

Thank you for helping us with these videos! You are the best :)
Aw you’re welcome!! ☺️
I'd try to build either a drip irrigation hose or pvc pipe with holes into the moss pole.
PVC pipe can’t work when I go to chop the pole to extend on top 😊
Melissa I have a question. When you’re watering your moss poles isn’t the point to keep it wet for the roots that are growing into the pole? If you stop above the leaf, doesn’t that rob the roots of water?

This is the exact question I had- thank you for asking!! It's so hard to figure out the balance between watering the pole and letting the soil dry out
What plants do you recommend for moss poles? I just followed your tutorial and made some.
aww yay!! So many plants! Epipremnum, monsters and philos for sure!
that‘s genius! HAHA :D i use them for my balcony plants and never thought using them for moss poles..
I love them! I think they work well and it says a lot of time for me :)
wow.....question? all my moss poles are in LECA...do you think this would basically work the same way?
This is fabulous and I think I'm now onboard with moss poles. I think I'll poke the hole with a dowel or chopstick first as I wouldn't want that glass shattering in my hand. 😬
Good idea! I accidentally dropped one and it broke lol so be careful with them! 💚
@@plantsbymelissa Hi Melissa. After watching your video yesterday I went on a hunt for these on Amazon and found 10" acrylic ones 👍🏻☺️
Great video Melissa! Do you think it would be ok to have a liquid fertilizer mix go into the water globes? 👩🏼🌾
Most certainly! I will add liquid fertilizer in them too!
It’s a brilliant idea! Thanks
You’re welcome! It’s so much easier 🙏🏼
Do you also water the pot of dirt that the plant is in or just the moss pole?
This is what I came to ask too!
I usually water the soil once a week and the poles every 3-4 days just enough to moisten them so the water doesn’t run down and over water the soil.. kind of confusing but u get the hang of it after a while!
Where did you get those bottom white shelves where your plants sit on top of? 🤔
Hello! Do you still water your moss poles like this? I would like to know if this worked in the long term before I buy them since they are a bit pricey. Thank you!!
How do you keep the pole stable in the pot?
When you make the pole, couldn’t you just lay a straw, bamboo stick or some similar object towards the top end? Then, you could just remove the stick after the pole is made? (For a place to insert the watering device)
I suppose you could but it might make a mess pulling it out with the moss since it’s a fresh pole. The moss tends to be a little bit of a mess until it stars to compact more. It’s pretty easy to shimmy it in from the top 😂
Can you use regular tap water in spagnum moss?
The inside of mine are plastic. Will this still work?
What do you do if you go on vacation or need to be away for a week? I want to do moss poles but I’m away for a week about once a year and i don’t want to put all the work in if one week away is going to kill the root system in the poles.
You can wrap plastic wrap around the pole to slow the evaporation
What do you call those pins to hold vines up. Are they on Amazon maybe.
They’re called greening pins! I linked them in my moss pole supplies down below in the description ☺️
Thanks!
How do you battle fungus gnats with your wet moss pole?
Since using nematodes recently to battle thrips and the use of mosquito dunks,
I don't see too many around. I see them occasionally but for the most part they're gone ☺️
why is everyone watering from the top thou , isnt water soak by the smoss wasted on the top portion ?
What would happen to the plant if you let the moss dry out completely? Say the pot has been watered regularly but forgot or neglected the moss pole & it dried out. What happens to the plant?
It depends on the specific plant's hardiness when the roots dry out but if you really really let it fully dry out past the point of return then the roots in the pole will desiccate and the next time you water they will start to rot (dry rot)
Thanks for sharing
You bet!
I love your videos 😘🥰
Thank you! 💚💚
What a great tool, ya to bad they are so expensive
They sell water globes at the dollar tree
Great ideal, Thanks🪴
You're welcome!
I love you😘❤

Haha someone told me that before! And the kardashians 😆💚💚
