  • Having shot Nicks astounding HW77 he told me that he was experimenting with a hybrid alloy skirted piston kit. I ordered one and fitted it - an amazing transformation! The gun is superb to shoot. Very little recoil, almost no sight picture movement and a lovely fast shot cycle.

    Know this is an OLDER video. It's just amazing all the tuning possibilities for these Weilhrauch rifles!
    I have received my HW97k and it's shooting fantabulous and it's all stock from factory!
    So if and when I do a tune (hopefully by a professional on these beautiful guns) I will be noticing a big difference of shot cycle as I can see with your great informative videos...
    I've done quite a bit of PCP shooting with great guns, and soon as I started up with this HW97k I noticed that I really had to get the experience of shooting springers. I noticed after some weeks of shooting I finally am getting the gist of how to properly shot these beauties...
    At 30 yards my groups are pretty incredible, actually they are starting to look like PCP groups lol.:-) :-)
    Nothing compares to shooting one of these, I can imagine what a tune would do in the future!!!!
    Loving it!!!
    Thanks to your informative videos I decided to get one, and now I don't shoot pcp for now, it's just that I don't want my springer shooting style affected at all lol.

    Would be nice to have some velocity measurements and grouping test before and after to go with "outstanding, fantastic etc" Reducing the mass of the piston by almost 100g and increasing preload may very well lead to massive loss in exit velocity, if not done right.

    You need extra pre load to reduce piston bounce after lightening the piston. Low start pressure pellets( JSB RS/ Falcon Accuracy Plus) will also reduce piston bounce. It is my belief that the earlier the piston bounces during the firing cycle the less efficient the system as the piston and projectile will not be travelling in the same direction for as long. I also believe that lightening the piston too much may give it a harder landing as it is accelerated faster and can be detrimental to what you are trying to acheive. For example, you may reduce felt recoil but increase surge as the piston finally stops against the cylinder end.
    Of course, I may be wrong in my assessment but everything in spring piston airguns is usually the result of a compromise and when something is added in one area something is taken away in another. This is what makes tuning spring guns so absorbing. There is no right or wrong as it is the shooter who determines the results of tuning these truly mysterious machines!
    May I thank you for taking your time to show your rifles in various states and tunes. And for brilliantly doing so.
    P.S. For me a longer spring of thinner wire gives a nicer firing cycle than a shorter spring with thicker wire. I recal the first HW77s and FWB Sports used this concept.

    Good morning, I have seen your videos and I really like your experiences, so I want to ask you a question, I'm thinking of buying for my tx a Nick G kit from a friend of mine who is giving up the FT. I've been to see photos of the kit that is on my friend's tx and I found it strange that his kit that has titanium spring, aluminum piston but does not have red to drop, so I find it strange to know that the aluminum will collide directly in the bottom With steel. Can you explain why you do not have a red parachut head?

    Hi, I recently bought a friend who gave up the FT a nick short stroke kit with aluminum piston and titanium spring. I already gave about 200 shots and I still find the cycle violent despite the speed being 767 fps with exact 8.4. I also found it strange that the piston did not have the red parachute. What feed back on this kit in the UK, I'm afraid I ended up damaging the scope. Thank you for your attention.

    Just wondering what it was you didn't like about the SFS tuned 97k as you have experience with lots of tuned 97k's? I'v put my wonky donkey tuned tx200hc up for sale its shot cycle is lovely

    • @shootingatdawn
      @shootingatdawn  7 років тому

      +loopoin I had a few shots with one gun at one of the springer bashes. It had cost the guy 700 quid I believe and the feel of the shot cycle wasn't a patch on any of my guns. Why would I want one? Maybe it was a bad one or something but until I shoot something that impresses me I am not going to want one. My next project is some new internals for my TX ;)

      +loopoin - I buy my guns and pay for the work myself. I already have 3 hw97s which probably stand me at 1500 quid. I have actually shot a Sandwell gun only once and I wasn't impressed so I don't reckon I will be investing in one.

    • @shootingatdawn
      @shootingatdawn  7 років тому

      Well I am not planning on taking the gun apart in the near future but I can tell you that the comp tube needs to be shortened to allow for the delrin piston ring to the rear of the piston. As for the piston itself I suspect it is standard length but made out of alloy rather than steel to allow for the weight saving.
