Closest imo is Tool. Totally different, but also very similar in a lot of ways. They're both out of this world when it comes to talent and thinking outside the box. And both bands seem like they were created by some sort of outside force! 😂 The insane talent and chemistry between the different members is mind blowing! And the fact that they managed to find each other and create the most beautiful amazing music together is just incredible. We're lucky to be able to enjoy it!

Dude! I was in Mons, BE from 1979 - 1982 working at NATO HQ. For my 22nd birthday I gave myself tickets to the Led Zeppelin concert in Brussels. As 'Trampled Under Foot' finished they all left the stage except Jimmy Page. He sat on a stool under a purple spotlight, the only light in the auditorium, and just jammed. Wonderful! Unseen by anyone, in the darkness the rest of them reset themselves on stage. Jimmy hits a long, low note....it gradually climbs into a really high scream, feeding back thru the amps, echoing throughout the place!! As it stops the only light, the purple spot, goes out and for a split second it's dead silence in total blackness. Suddenly three huge flash charges on stage blow up and they go right into 'Kashmir'!
It's like, "BOOM!!! Duh-da-duh, Duh-da-duh, DUH-DA-DUH" I still get goose bumps when I think about it, and that was 45 years ago. Wow, now I DO feel 'old'. LOL!

I love "Kashmir". My favorite version is the live performance from the 2007 Celebration Day Concert held in London's O2 Arena. Even at their advanced age, they still knock it out of the park. Also, the late John Bonham's son, Jason, fills in for his dad at drums and kills it! Enjoy!!!

From what little I know, Jimmy was a studio/session guitarist. Played with/for many singers, groups, and whatever came along. He was well versed in numerous styles of music before he became part of Led Zeppelin. I know nothing of any formal training he may or may not have had, but he was well versed in a lot of different guitar techniques, which (fortunately for all of us) led to his unique contribution to LZ.

Back in 2007 they had a tribute to the man that was the president of Epic Records that passed away. They announced that the remaining living members of Led Zeppelin was going to perform with Jason Bonham the son of the original drummer (John Bonham) of Led Zeppelin. In 2 hours 20 million tickets were requested from all different parts of the world for that tribute. That broke the all time record, the venue only hold 20 thousand, so they had to do a lottery system. Those lucky 20 thousand got to experience something special that night.

By '71, they so thoroughly dominated the field of hard, progressive rock that you could say they defined that category for the rest of the decade.

OMG you REALLY need to listen to the studio version of Kashmir with the lyrics. I don't always suggest the lyrics, but in the case of Kashmir I'll make an exception. Whenever I hear these live versions, they just miss so much. The studio version is just a different, more emotional journey.

Hell yeah! I'm down for this rabbit hole. Led Zeppelin probably is the best band ever. One of a few bands where a member can't be replaced without fundamentally altering the band. Expect constant changes with Blues, Rock, Funk inspired. Listen to the studio version of Good Times Bad Times. Their first song on their first release. They came out SWINGING!!!!! Also, In My Time of Dying, Whole Lotta Love, Dazed and Confused.... Honestly, this video isn't the best intro to them if you can believe that. When it's all said and done, Led Zeppelin probably DOES have the best discography of any rock band out there. After a few songs, you will have them as the best.

They definitely have a top spot in the rock genre. I'm sure we both have bands in our top ranks that history supports. Queen is definitely in the same ballpark.
