No such thing as too much Zep. They are foundational to every band that came after. You’d be hard pressed to even find a mediocre LZ song. Back then there was just such an explosion of talent everywhere. Of course they took their music more seriously because they all looked to each other as inspiration to make even better music. Now it’s mostly computers making people who can’t sing sound like they can.

I agree. No flash bangs, no auto tune, no holograms. Just music. I am from Detroit and we had a small venu called The Grande Ballroom. No tables and no chairs. You sat on the floor right against the stage. All these classic rockers played there. They were just coming up. They walked around and spoke to the audience. Very approachable and it was appreciated. I met alot of these bands. I grew up at the most awesome era of music. Not just rock but everything coming out of Motown as well. Cant afford to go to concerts these days. They priced us seniors right out of the game with their bigger and better productions. To us it was the music. All about the music. I wouldnt trade my memories for anything. ❤❤❤
P. S. What always amazed me about Plant, Live: his OBVIOUS CONFIDENCE in just the way he holds himself...you will notice it, more: the more you watch them live....ALL of them gave ALL THEY HAD on stage....SO GOOD!
And the crazy thing is, he wasn't actually as confident as he acted. I've read that quite a few times. Peter Grant kept having to talk him into believing it.
Thanks, Polo. I know you enjoy Bonzo’s drumming … in ACHILLES LAST STAND, he not only pounds those skins savagely for ten and a half minutes, he fills like a fiend! Drives that song like a demon.
I'm 60 and I still get chills listening to this and on this album is also Kashmir the greatest band in the land because the albums were difficult enough to play & these 4 people could pull this off live & leave you in a heap on the floor drooling 🤤
When I was called, that my Mom had died, during the night, at care facility,….I fell on the floor. When I could get up, I poured a glass of Bourbon, got the cd of this. And, I just sat, cried, and drank - to cope. “Jesus gonnA make up my dying’ bed” as the Blues goes.
Technology has changed how music is made. Now, with a laptop and a good microphone, somebody can create music by themselves in their bedroom. But how many times have we seen a good band break up, and the separate members of the band not measure up to what the band was doing? I think the chemistry of musicians playing together, each member bringing new ideas in, and filtering out the bad ideas, had a lot to do with the great music of the '70s. The sum of the parts exceeding the whole.
Robert said he didn’t do drugs. He had a lot of sorrow in his life, he lost his son when he was 5 years old and while he was on tour in the USA. He wrote a song for his son, “ All of my Love”. Wait until you listen to Robert Plants first album after Led Zeppelin disbanded and later he hooked up with Jimmy Page years later to tour as Page and Plant and just emerged on the music scene in full force. He’s a musical Genius!
I have mad feels for Robert. But he absolutely beyond the shadow of a doubt did drugs. There is no argument you could possibly make to combat this fact.
Raw and Dirty as all Hell! Love this version, it is so beautifully performed by each member as always. Led Zep is thee GOAT Rock Band ever, No equal. None close.
I'm loving that you're getting into listening to the old rock. There is so much of it for you to enjoy. Personally I think from 1965 to 75 were overall the best years of rock music. So many great bands putting out phenomenal music. Enjoy it Polo!
There will never be enough Led Zeppelin reactions. They were the standard and so many bands were heavily influenced by their style, and very articulate and thoughtful
John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page are former session musicians before they respectively joined Led Zeppelin, with Jimmy Page a former member of the Yardbirds. Indeed: masters of their craft.
I was there! Absolutely amazing. So professional - they came on and played for over three hours without a break. Although about half way through Robert said that they were going to sit down and have a cup of tea. Not because they wanted to but HAD to! They played about 4 acoustic numbers during tea time. Was so lucky to witness what many acclaim to be the best live performance of any band!
Up until the 90’s, Bands wrote, released albums and toured hard to keep their fan base. The concerts were affordable and Bands gave it their all every time. It was absolutely about the music and the fan-base. Today, it’s about the Artists’ egos.
Zeppelin basically were a Southern Black Blues/Gospel cover band doing the ultimate British update to it. In My Time of Dying is a gospel music song by Blind Willie Johnson. When the Lever Breaks was written by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy in 1929.
And what they did with it is what they are all about my friend- - to say they were basically a cover band is disrespectful, ignorant, & just plain WRONG- those songs were public domain, it's blues man, those songs never sounded anything near as cool- Zeppelin put those people on the map!- So many people jump.on that bandwagon that they "stole " songs- 95% of their catalog is 100% original- - it didn't matter what song- it was the way they played the song- whatever song it was-
There will never be another Led Zeppelin - period. There is no band even close. They leave it all out on the stage and just go for it. Never mix up the idea that musical creativity and drugs are interlocked. Maybe some musicians use drugs to inspire their music, but most of us don't. Many of us musicians are very creative and don't use drugs at all.
For live Zep, one thing to keep in mind is that there is a framework for the song, but every performance is a bit different. Page leads, Bonham follows Page, JPJ weaves in and out of Bonham and Plant floats around in the pocket.
I agree with everything except it's John Bonham that leads. Everything follows the drums. The drummer is the timekeeper of the band, and he controls the change up
This is my favorite Led Zeppelin song...followed by The Rain Song and Ten Years Gone. Once again....Zeppelin live are a force, but the studio version is perfection....
I love to go down the rabbit hole on songs like this. The oldest known recording seems to be by Blind Willie Johnson, in the 1920's, he's got the writing credit on it. It became popular after Bob Dylan recorded it in the early 60's. Zep's version seems to borrow from both, and probably others. Page's slide solos on this performance are INSANE.
Dazed and Confused 1973 live at MSG will blow you away. It will forever change the way you listen to music. Probably the best live performance of any song by any band. From the greatest band to ever grace the stage

The original for me was way better I think Jimmy's remastering has changed it a little and its noticeable . A small critique I know but hey I loved the original which was on the old movie . 1969 April 27th Fillmore West is my favorite concert. It shows them still coming together, but all of it was still there. It was very raw and wonderful. Their January 1969 Fillmore concert is almost too raw. They weren't quite the band they were going to be yet in January 1969.
A given band can be as good as any band ever, but one thing you have to understand about this time period in music is that it wasn’t just the music. Culture was changing, technology was changing in a way that honestly hadn’t been experienced since the piano was invented. People simply did not play like this. Distorted guitar was all new. Heavy rock drums were a new thing. The list could go on but bands in the late 60s early 70s were right on the forefront of new unexplored territory.
Even the people listening were way more serious about music. We would sit down and listen to an album entirely, and then listen to it again and again. We definitely had our favorites. The music was plentiful, and so good! There are a lot of Jimmy Page interviews that are really interesting on YT. There’s one from Oxford I think, with a Q&A.

I was 14 when I first heard Led Zeppelin. I have all their albums on vinyl. The late 60s and 70s were Golden, does not include disco! My new favorite group is Greta Van Fleet Both bands are epic Live!!
@waynekerr3598 I agree, this song is one of my faves. Note, weaker is in quotes, sorta like saying supposedly weak songs. As for which songs I'd consider to be some of their "weaker", Hats Off to Roy Harper comes to mind. Hot Dog is another. And one song, the only song for that matter, that I actually don't like at all is Carousalambra.
Back then, we took music SO seriously - parly because it was all stiil so new and evolving - the rush of getting a new album by a favourite band or word-of-mouth recommendation I still remember. Then playing it continuously till everyone had soaked it up. And yeah, the drugs were possibly more user-friendly. At least some of them 😊
Led Zeppelin is not my FAVORITE band, but I will never complain about a reaction to them! You can't be a rock music fan and not have them in your top ten. And I definitely would never argue with the legions of fans for whom LZ is their favorite band. They are obviously one of the best of all time.
One of their best documentaries/concert films by Zepplin is The Song Remains The Same movie (also a double album soundtrack). Mostly from 3 nights at Madison Square Garden shows in 1973. Beautifully shot, good quality concert film. One of their best known. The version of No Quarter on that album/film is by far the best and cleanest live versions I've heard, and I've heard many.
Was looking for this comment. Back in the mid 70s a local small old theatre on Friday nights would play old Three Stooges, then Song Remains the Same, then Rocky Horror Picture show. You could almost not see the movie because the smoke was so thick in the air, it was always like a big party. People were still “cruising” up and down Main Street in front of the theatre, lots of people on the street outside, and the local bars were full. You could see everyone there enjoying themselves.
@@coocoocachooglin Loved those Midnight Flicks at the theaters with, Zepplin's TSRTS, Rocky Horror, and one of my favorites was the occasional screening of Genesis In Concert 1976, which eventually started showing up on late night TV show Night Flight. Just the best times!
I played a little guitar when I was younger and I fell in love with this... I don't know if it's accurate to call it a documentary, but there is this movie "It Might Get Loud" that's about 3 guitarists: The Edge (of U2), Jack White (of White Stripes) and Jimmy Page (of of course Led Zeppelin). Those 3 just meeting up, talking music, playing guitar, sharing tips and some history. It's just amazing watching them and it always gets me to want to pick up the guitar again after I've seen it. You should absolutely check it out.
i saw them life in berlin germany in 1976....it was one of the best concerts i ever was visiting.ok...pink floyd in 1972 was even blowing our minds.i saw all the great bands and everybody was high and we all were blessed to be young at the real famous 1970years.nobody today can imagine what a gift it was.
As always, JPJ is standing in the shadows destroying that bass. This is my favorite song (studio version) it's 11 minutes of jam frenzy euphoria. The energy is off the charts. And the kick drum in this song is so sweet, I could cry 😩
Suscribed, great analysis of the mighty Led Zepplin, I was born 69 and have been listening to this iconic band for over 40 + years and never get tired of them..Seen them minus John Bohnam in 94 in Sydney Australia. love the Madison square Gardens concert , its the 4 members that make this band so iconic , same as Pink Floyd and Beatles ...timeless music , yes there are others but most my life reflects on these 3 bands mentioned ..50's, 60's and 70's music has never been so good :-)
I totally agree with you regarding the music of this era is way beyond what you hear today - I always hesitate to say it out loud as I can hear the “ok boomer” response in my head even before I utter a word 😂 The fact is you had real musicians who were masters of their craft combined with incredible creativity. I just don’t hear music today that compares…
Drugs do not make artists better. It actually dulls the senses. These four were geniuses who worked hard at their craft. Obviously they played hard too. But my point they were just crazy talented. Kashmir live from Celebration Day so you can see how good they could still be in the 2000s!
So glad you are open minded enough to hear what we heard. I am 67. There were so many great bands. I still have dozens of ticket stubs from seeing bunches of them live. Zeppelin was king though. Even though some were close because we wanted to hear them all. It was a different time. A different day. It will never come back. I wish every day that it would, so much simpler and rock which is now classic rock was so great. It was everything. Thanks for listening
I'm not upset that you're reacting to another led Zeppelin song😂 that's why I punched the button to listen to you, because I Love led Zeppelin❤🎉 AND who is bts?
Polo... These guys are as good as it gets, in any generation. To watch Robert, belt that improv ending, is magical. I lived it then and, the drugs were different. Your conceptual continuity is precise....
Zeppelin was known to virtually never play a live song the same way twice, which is true live music. If you notice these band members feed off of one another, four musicians that are part of one body.
The Song Remains the Same is a must-watch concert/documentary film. Cameron Crowd’s movie Almost Famous was loosely based on touring with Led Zep as a young journalist.
Polo, how about listening to every song on every Led Zeppelin album in order they were released to experience their evolution, just start doing a few songs a week. 👍 you’ll be amazed I promise.
Full Albums side by side. just like we listened to them. And the way Jimmy produced them to be herd. You get so much more understanding of the growth and diversity. This band could throw a dart and whatever type of music it landed. They could do it. Your favorite Led Zeppelin song is always the last one you listened to. Because it just keeps getting better. And when you think it can't get any better then this. The next song on the album will blow you away
I'm 70 and remember when this album came out. We didn't listen to 45's. There had never been a sound like Led Zepplin and probably never will be an equal. Timeless.

The Song Remains the Same 1976 documentary😊
Any Zeppelin reaction is GREAT with me. They are one of the greatest bands of all time.
I was 14 when I first heard Led Zeppelin. I have all their albums on vinyl. The late 60s and 70s were Golden, does not include disco! My new favorite group is Greta Van Fleet
Both bands are epic Live!!
Same here old dude it was great back then
It's not possible to do too much Zeppelin! Heck, even their "weaker" songs are ones that most bands could only ever dream of creating
Except this masterpiece is not a weak song. Could you please tell us what you consider as a weak Zeppelin song?
@waynekerr3598 I agree, this song is one of my faves. Note, weaker is in quotes, sorta like saying supposedly weak songs. As for which songs I'd consider to be some of their "weaker", Hats Off to Roy Harper comes to mind. Hot Dog is another. And one song, the only song for that matter, that I actually don't like at all is Carousalambra.
There was a lot of competition too. Stones, Rush, Supertramp, i know i could go on but these guys RIPPED MUSIC TO SHREDS!❤
Dude, you can never have enough Zeppelin!!!
Thank you for your honest approach to such music.
I think the word ‘eargasm’ was invented for Led Zep. They are juuuuust short of too much. ✌️♥️
In the presence of greatness, to experience them live was impossible to describe. Thank you Sir for these reactions ❤
Thank you so much for what you do. Please don’t let any of these haters convince you that you have to choose rock or rap. I’m 46 and love it all.
I am In my 60’s and love remembering my own discovery of this band . Thank you
They gave their all at every show. They will never be matched.
Poloooo... Thank you so much for another Led Zeppelin reaction!!! What next? Like I keep tellin' ya, Whole Lot of Love! You'll love it ❤
It was a time of great musical creativity and innovation.
I like watching your reactions because your truly analyzing the music. You say things that make me listen twice.
I just don’t hear music today that compares…
that's the algorithm doing that. Good young artists are out there
I agree about music back then. SO good, that era had amazing talent and took their music VERY SERIOUSLY! Worked hard to create incredible work.
You should check out the movie "The Song Remains the Same" a movie from their MSG concert in 1975
This started in 68. Best band ever. 4 dudes that could bring it.
Drugs do not make artists better. It actually dulls the senses. These four were geniuses who worked hard at their craft. Obviously they played hard too. But my point they were just crazy talented. Kashmir live from Celebration Day so you can see how good they could still be in the 2000s!
led zeppelins firs six albums were on the billboard top ten at the same time no band has ever done that before or after
Every Led Zeppelin Song is Amazing! I love Rain Song! I’ve asked my family to play it when I leave this world. ❤
You are absolutely right. Music was life or death back then.
You have to watch the movie the song remains the same. It’s about a New York concert that Led Zeppelin did and it is amazing!!!!
Timeless.
Yes!! Glad you're doing this song!! Good tune!! Starts slow, finishes hard!!
THE WANTON SONG!!
