That is the only way to listen to it. At least on purpose. If one of the songs comes on my random streaming music, I won't turn it off. But if intentional, I've set the time aside to go the whole way.
The whole album is a commentary on the British class system. Sheep - the common people. Pigs - the rich ruling class and Dogs - those who want to climb the social structure. Brilliant album.
Damn. Never knew that. The bass is ever present, constant it builds and fades. I always thought it didn't seem like Roger's usual playing but never looked into it more. When I saw one of the big tribute bands live this was the song that stuck with me most. Live its just insane.
The greatest thing about Animals was actually the live tour where during the concert an enormous pig floated above the audience, No we don't need lasers, we don't need fancy dancing, just give us a humongous pig that represents the awesome music, that's how you put up a show!!!
Read what Tommy Morello the guitarist for rage against the machine said about sitting down with Adam Jones of tool in 1979 to listen to The Animals album!!! It was in a segment called "Children of the Moon" in rolling Stone magazine printed February 27, 2014!! Mr Murillo said his jaw unhinged when he listened to this album with him in a surround sound set up!! So when you mentioned hearing Adam Jones in some of the music he may have gotten some inspiration from this album?
Ha, I'm that old, too - only I didn't even had headphones.. just laid back with window shades down and chilled... (teenager.. no smoke or alcohol.. just pure fascination...)
You might hear one song from dark side of the moon or led zep 3 and think that it is just a so so song. But when you hear the entire album, it is a great track and fits in with the overall statement they were making. Cheers Polo. 🙂🙂
I got to see them perform this album upon it's release. February 1977 in Munich Germany. Well over 150 concerts attended, the only concert that I still have the ticket stub from and it's been over 45yrs.
Pretty sure this is the album that Maynard listened to as a kid with headphones for the first time, he came out of that listen knowing what he wanted to do with his life.
There are genres of Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country, Folk, Classical, Funk, Electronica, Soul, Orchestral and even Music Concrėte. And then there's Pink Floyd. They do all of that. Sometimes on one album. 😉
7 is a fair assessment, good job. It took me a while when I bought this album to get into it. Like Black Sabbath's Technical Ecstasy it took me a minute, but when I did, I loved them. Sadly Led Zeppelin's album Presents, never gave me that vibe. Thank you for your review of this album.
The Sheep revolting in a Loosely based rendition of Orwell's Animal Farm. Of course it ends with them setting up the same ruling class. Because history always seems to repeat. Did you watch Echoes live at Pompeii yet? It would take a long time one song at a time to get to the Pink Floyd catalog add over 200 songs. And they really don't have a bad song. One day way down the list you'll get too the Atom Heart Mother Suite. And you'll still be amazed. 🤠🐂
Thanks, Polo.. I just "subscribed" but pretty sure I already had... so new site? Anyway, I appreciate your reaction to PF -- it takes a lot of patience to fully appreciate them... LOVE this song, and also reaction... (p.s., I am SO holding back from making a political comment here.. )
Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin need to be experienced as an album. They both put music out at different times with different things going on globally and within the band themselves. Their albums were a statement about themselves and about the landscape of society in general.
As you didn't talked about JIMI HENDRIX EXPÉRIENCE, WITH PINK FLOYD, AND LED ZEP, I CAN'T RESPECT YOU...THEY ARE THE 3 BEST BANDS, BOTH IN STUDIO AND ON STAGE, IN THE 20TH CENTURY...HEY MAN, GILMOUR AND PAGE SAID THEY WERE INFLUENCED BY HENDRIX, WHO WAS THE FIRST WHO USED A STUDIO AS A REAL INSTRUMENT, NOT JUST TO RECORD A SONG😢
LISTEN TO THE SONG "1983" ON THE ALBUM ELECTRIC LADYLAND OF HENDRIX, AND CRY MAN, TO SEE WHO SHOWED TO THE OTHERS HOW TO USE A STUDIO AND CREATE SOUNDS, EFFECTS, ETC....HENDRIX ELECTRIC LADYLAND ALBUM 1968, ANIMALS 1977....TRY TO HEAR EVERYTHING BEFORE TALKING PLEASE
Listening to this song without the rest of the album is like watching ONLY Return of the Jedi…it’s gonna be good…but without the first two movies it’s not gonna have the same effect.
Since you enjoy this style of Floyd, you should dive into some Porcupine Tree, who styled much of their sound after Floyd. Great choices would be Arriving Somewhere But Not Here (live), Time Flies (full length version), Harridan, or Hatesong (live version).
When you hear rhythm guitar that also is lead guitar...it must be David Gilmour! Animals is my favorite Pink Floyd album. Wall to wall brilliance. Recommend Dogs and Pigs from this album for the trifecta...and some amazing Gilmour solos.
Animals, perhaps more than any other, is the Pink Floyd album that needs to be listened to in its entirety to be fully appreciated. Isolated, the individual tracks aren’t nearly as strong as they are when taken as a contextual whole. That said, the album was really a step back from the brilliance of Wish You Were Here and before that, the masterful Dark Side of the Moon. Echoes Parts 1 & 2 are my favorite Floyd songs, along with One of These Days I’m Going to Chop You Up Into Little Pieces, of course. React to the original Live in Pompeii video sometime, or just watch it on your own. It’s quite amazing, really.
Took me 25 years of listening to this song before I realized they were talking about sheep being lead through the slaughter house. “What do you get for pretending the danger's not real Meek and obedient you follow the leader Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel What a surprise.” ✌️
Wasn't clear whether you'd listened to the other tracks and got the message? The sheep rose up and killed the dogs hence that triumphant guitar piece to finish with and the birds singing at the end signalled all was well with the world.
I'm confused. I've been subscribing to your channel (Polo reacts) almost since you were starting out, I don't think you had 1k subscribers yet at that point. And now - at first I thought, as many others also did, that UA-cam had kicked me out from your channel. And then I noticed that the channel name was Polo Music. Is this really you, or has anyone hacked your account? It seems Polo Music releases only old reactions that you did a long time ago. If this is you, I'm a bit disappointed, to be honest. 😳
FYI! Just to re-emphasis the BROAD ARRAY of other GREAT Progressive Groups who were as GREAT but never reached the fame of PF, YES or GENESIS were groups like FOCUS, CAMEL, GENTLE GIANT, PFM, RENAISSANCE, HAPPY the MAN, CATHEDRAL, KHAN etc etc etc... Sadly, you'll not get massive request for them because generally the masses focus on the what's most popular. Pink Floyd were not that unique!

Animals is definitely an album to be listened to start to finish... Still incredible to me after all these years...
Released in the UK at punk's peak angriness, it seemed at the time to out anger everything around.
That is the only way to listen to it. At least on purpose. If one of the songs comes on my random streaming music, I won't turn it off. But if intentional, I've set the time aside to go the whole way.

Dogs - businessmen.
Pigs - politicians
Sheep - common human
David Gilmour plays the bass on this song as well as the lead. That's why the bass is extra juicy. Great reaction and nice stogey! 😊
David is an absolute treasure, and at 78 he is as good as ever
Damn. Never knew that. The bass is ever present, constant it builds and fades. I always thought it didn't seem like Roger's usual playing but never looked into it more. When I saw one of the big tribute bands live this was the song that stuck with me most. Live its just insane.
I didn't know that,but thanks!🏴
The synth work by Richard Wright is incredible and under-appreciated. What a great track!!
I think other more or just as progressive bands are more under-appreciated. At least PF were famous & get requested. But understand your point!
@@wendellwiggins3776 Agree. As a group Floyd was popular, and maybe at times even over-exposed.
Yes, Richard was such an integral part of the band... missed!
Pigs. 3 Different Ones.
Pigs. 3 Different Ones.
Pigs 3 Different Ones.
Truth.
Live in Zócalo México City by Roger Waters. Best versión.
As concept albums go, this has to be up there as one of the best ever. F**kin love this album man.
The greatest thing about Animals was actually the live tour where during the concert an enormous pig floated above the audience, No we don't need lasers, we don't need fancy dancing, just give us a humongous pig that represents the awesome music, that's how you put up a show!!!

It was a huge inspiration for Les Claypool also.
He covers the entire album with his Flying Frog Brigade band.
😊
Definitely one of Pink Floyd’s Classics the entire album is fantastic definitely dogs as well
Listened to this so much back in the 70;s when I was in High School...getting stoned driving around suburbia blown out and listening to PF
This is one of my favorite tracks of theirs. Seeing it live from one of the big tribute shows was something that really stuck with me.
The Animals album is so underrated. Check out Dogs for some brilliant Gilmour guitar work.
This is the first album I listened to with headphones back in the 70’s. Yeah I’m that old!
Ha, I'm that old, too - only I didn't even had headphones.. just laid back with window shades down and chilled... (teenager.. no smoke or alcohol.. just pure fascination...)
My favourite Floyd album,good choice!🏴
“David, we need an in-your-face-fuck-off-kick-ass-angry-ranting solo at the end.”
“Hold my joint”
And he answered, “yeah mate, I already did that on Pigs” 😂
@ 👍👍👍
Well, you've heard this one and Dogs - you have to hear Pigs from this album. You want your Gilmour solo...
all class. classy drumming too in this
This whole album is great. I recommend listening to it from start to finish with one of your favorite cigars and a pour of top shelf American whiskey
We were 17 and stoned all the time when this album came out. We used to crank it up and just melt into the furniture.
Mexican brown brick with a hint of laundry detergent. Yum! 😮
Pakistan Gold Seal and Lebanese blond..... 🙈🙉🙊👍@@jettslappy7028
Great review.
I quit smoking cigars 4 days ago. Yer killin' me.
Gilmour’s guitar sounds like Godzilla in that finale solo
Pink Floyd is its own genre. Animals was my first trippin Floyd concert & I’ll never forget it ❤
Not really, I can 10 other similar or in the same territory that just weren't as popular
Had the 8 track in 78. Listened to it all the time. Saw Roger Waters do it live a couple of times. Animals is a killer album.
You might hear one song from dark side of the moon or led zep 3 and think that it is just a so so song. But when you hear the entire album, it is a great track and fits in with the overall statement they were making. Cheers Polo. 🙂🙂

Just don't tear their songs apart... Listen to their albums. ;)
Regards. 👍
Pretty sure this is the album that Maynard listened to as a kid with headphones for the first time, he came out of that listen knowing what he wanted to do with his life.
This amazing Album was written in most part by Sir Roger Waters!!
There are genres of Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country, Folk, Classical, Funk, Electronica, Soul, Orchestral and even Music Concrėte.
And then there's Pink Floyd.
They do all of that. Sometimes on one album. 😉
Come in here dear boy have a cigar
Polo Pink Floyd ***HAVE A CIGAR*** from Wish You Were here 👍

Top Desert Island bands (jn no particular order): Pink Floyd, Genesis
My top 3 albums are Physical Graffiti, Animals, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
@@vespoint Nice. Guess I'll have to investigate 'Physical Graffiti'! You picked my two favorites from these groups.
"Pigs" and "Dogs" next
The Sheep revolting in a Loosely based rendition of Orwell's Animal Farm.

Sheep rule Dogs and Pigs.
Don’t apologize for your…i guess OBS. That was the funkiest Sheep remix I’ve ever heard!!!
The sheep are controlled by the dogs who are led by the pigs .

@ not me. I didn’t vote for trump. 😝
Nobody’s perfect 🤷🏻♂️.
That's got a bit of War of the Worlds in it
Read Animal Farm. Pink Floyd leaves not even the smallest detail unchecked. Master's , not ever can there be another. What say you?
Wait till you get to "Dogs"" my friend !

Sorry. Your videos are unwatchable with that thing spinning in the background.
On most devices you can zoom in if you want to get it out of view. I like it but I can see how it could irritate some people.
Interesting. I find it cool. Different strokes...
OMG - watching someone sucking on a cigar is the most irritating thing.
Hey Polo ! Why don't you switch that cigar for a big reefer. You think this is good now......
