That is the only way to listen to it. At least on purpose. If one of the songs comes on my random streaming music, I won't turn it off. But if intentional, I've set the time aside to go the whole way.
The whole album is a commentary on the British class system. Sheep - the common people. Pigs - the rich ruling class and Dogs - those who want to climb the social structure. Brilliant album.
@@GinMae After decades of listening to PF, I think Richard was mostly responsible for the band's unique sounds. The things he did on keyboards was quite amazing. rip Richard
The greatest thing about Animals was actually the live tour where during the concert an enormous pig floated above the audience, No we don't need lasers, we don't need fancy dancing, just give us a humongous pig that represents the awesome music, that's how you put up a show!!!
My favorite Floyd album. Never gets old. This album was written off by critics when released. The members of Pink Floyd were not really even recording together on this album, but separately and yet, a master piece that is now considered among their best by critics. I loved it from day one.
The bird song at the end is a Skylark, a tiny drab looking bird but with a loud melodic song which is sung whilst on the wing. Along with the Sheep it's the quintessential sounds of a summers day in the English countryside.
Somethings are timeless. This album is on compare with anything known. It's in the history books for all time, as an adorable gem for future generations.
Saw Pink Floyd in 1977 for the Animals tour which was called In the flesh tour. It was at Soldier Field in Chicago tickets were $10.60. They played all of Animals, all of wish you were here and the song Money for an encore.
Read what Tommy Morello the guitarist for rage against the machine said about sitting down with Adam Jones of tool in 1979 to listen to The Animals album!!! It was in a segment called "Children of the Moon" in rolling Stone magazine printed February 27, 2014!! Mr Murillo said his jaw unhinged when he listened to this album with him in a surround sound set up!! So when you mentioned hearing Adam Jones in some of the music he may have gotten some inspiration from this album?
Damn. Never knew that. The bass is ever present, constant it builds and fades. I always thought it didn't seem like Roger's usual playing but never looked into it more. When I saw one of the big tribute bands live this was the song that stuck with me most. Live its just insane.
Pink Floyd is my second favorite band after The Beatles. I've had decades to think about it and I have never doubted this ranking. The Cars are my third favorite. 😊 ❤❤❤
Most people prefer Dogs, and it is phenomenal, but this is my favorite on the album. David had the idea for Roger’s voice to fade into the synth on this track and it’s brilliant. He and Richard were really dedicated to the music being right while Roger delivered the lyrics. David also played bass on this track.
Animals is a concept album based on the book Animal Farm written by George Orwell. It is a book that deals with Social Commentary of the disparities of social classes and power.
I got to see them perform this album upon it's release. February 1977 in Munich Germany. Well over 150 concerts attended, the only concert that I still have the ticket stub from and it's been over 45yrs.
Ha, I'm that old, too - only I didn't even had headphones.. just laid back with window shades down and chilled... (teenager.. no smoke or alcohol.. just pure fascination...)
Pink Floyd songs...Money, One of These Days, Have a Cigar, See Emily Play. Songs are in no particular order, just a few. All different kind of vibe but still good. I didn't put anything from The Wall but I did include one from The Dark Side of the Moon. Enjoy.
Pretty sure this is the album that Maynard listened to as a kid with headphones for the first time, he came out of that listen knowing what he wanted to do with his life.
Just got a copy on vinyl today for my birthday. Somehow mine didnt make it 40 years lol! Vinyl hits different than digital with stuff recorded on analog equipment.
Growing up in the eighties Pink Floyd was even then it’s own genre. Being dramatic teenager’s we use to get stoned turn off the lights and listen to the whole album (usually the wall)
You probably heard the band’s technically most difficult track, intense, engaging and hypnotic, coming from what is probably their best album. Its a piece that should be heard with headphones because it contains a very deep stereo ambient effect and some very rich and refined instrumental details. Nice idea listening it enjoing a cigar!
Have you checked out any Pink Floyd off the Ummaguma Album. Several small fury creatures gathered together in a cave and grooving with a pict. Is a great song.
My favorite cut off this album. Thanks! If you haven't heard Careful With That Axe Eugene (live) from the Ummagumma LP I think you'd like that. It's spacey in the beginning and the end, wild in the middle.
There are genres of Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country, Folk, Classical, Funk, Electronica, Soul, Orchestral and even Music Concrėte. And then there's Pink Floyd. They do all of that. Sometimes on one album. 😉
At this point in Pink Floyd following the success of Wish You Were Here, Rodger Waters had pretty much taken control of the artistic process, Animals was a Rodger Waters album with the rest of the band following artistic orders, so to speak. Rick Wright was then sacked from the band and brought back in as a hired hand for the recording sessions of The Wall. A great album that appreciate many years later, but not full at the original time of release

The Animals album by Pink Floyd should really be listened to as an album. It's not a song by song listen, but then a lot of their stuff is that way. A song you should hear is "Run Like Hell" by David Gilmour live at Pompeii.

Animals is definitely an album to be listened to start to finish... Still incredible to me after all these years...
Released in the UK at punk's peak angriness, it seemed at the time to out anger everything around.

As concept albums go, this has to be up there as one of the best ever. F**kin love this album man.
The synth work by Richard Wright is incredible and under-appreciated. What a great track!!
I think other more or just as progressive bands are more under-appreciated. At least PF were famous & get requested. But understand your point!

Animals is an amazing album. My favorite from Pink Floyd.
Rogers voice holds the note and transforms into synthesized organ
David Gilmour plays the bass on this song as well as the lead. That's why the bass is extra juicy. Great reaction and nice stogey! 😊
