- As recently as a few months ago, almost no one in the world would have expected that we'd be getting a new Monkey Island game anytime soon, let alone in 2022. Return to Monkey Island's announcement earlier this year came out of nowhere, but it was the very definition of a pleasant surprise.
The classic point and click adventure series holds a special place in the hearts of many, so to see it coming back in what looks like very promising fashion is, of course, exciting to see. Curse of Monkey Island was made by a completely different team of developers, and that game was the pinnacle for me. Not often that happens.

@@trycon40 if you want my true opinion? I think the ultimate goal here is to continuously tank everything we once held dear as time passes. Removing story and substance, in exchange for watered down garbage. I didn't know Disney did that but all the major companies are purposefully killing everything we held dear. It is Disney, so it's no surprise. Everything is being bought up by the major companies and nothing will be off the table to destroy

Honestly? I'm an avid gamer, and I'm VERY tempted because it has the mode that de-emphasizes the puzzle solving, just in case I get stuck or impatient! :)
We are 2. I started one of the monkey island games accidentally on my PC. Didn't know what the game was about but I had tried to play similar games before that so after a couple of tries trying to figure out what to do finally put the game down and forgot about it. It's not that these games are not good. It's just that the puzzles and how to progress to the next level is so convoluted that for someone like me it is impossible to progress even from the first screen. At least tell me how to play this game and once I get used to the mechanics or general idea of it I will be able to do good on my own. (Recently played Control and except for a couple of similarly convoluted puzzle solving I was fine.)

I guess a puzzle hint system is a positive. I doubt many would have the patience to be stuck for days and weeks when the solution is so easy to find online.
Not only was no one expecting the art style, no one likes it either.
It grows on you like genital warts… you get used to it
Not a big fan of this artstyle, when you see what the devs of the new Leisure Suit Larry games have done and also the newest Sam & Max games this just feels off and like they just do this type of artstyle because it's fast to create. No one asked for this artstyle, no wonder these games sell less and less when the devs do less and less with them. The Curse of Monkey Island still look like one of the best to me, I know probably more work but damn that game still looks great and could be released tomorrow and no one would say a thing.

The art style is fine. It's a mix of Day of the Tentacle and Broken Age.
I just hope it has a good story and puzzles.

Compared to the hand drawn style of curse of monkey island, this looks ugly.
The new look of Monkey Island's world isn't... bad, but why did they change it to this? What's wrong with the hand drawn look, or even the telltale look? This looks unique, and it's sure to be a blast, but I don't know if people are going to appreciate this new art style. I personally prefer the look of the previous games, but whatever, looks aren't everything.
I guess it's probably because of the low budget that they had to resort to this art style that is easier to animate using puppet rig. I prefer the look from the previous games as well, and while I originally didn't like this new art style at first, I quickly got over and just glad to see Monkey Island making a come back.
i think its because of another long standing franchise -Broken Sword.BS does the realism and while MI always tried to push boundries it was also more cartoonish.Curse was for me the best animated but thats not to say those before didnt try to be like it they simply couldnt get there at the time.if you look at the progression between the 2 franchises you will see that games like jack keane and so blonde have to have some inspiration from MI but with BS the games are more just art style.for this reason i think Return has tried to do something that neither its influenced games or BS has done.
I hope you can deactivate the hint system. I want the puzzles to be as hard as possible.
Even if there isn't an option to deactivate it, you can simply ignore it like the first two games. It doesn't force itself to be used.

Challenging puzzles are part of the Monkey Island experience IMO.

The game includes a hint book in the inventory. If you need help you can look in it, but if you don't ask for help it won't do anything.

It's bad enough they fob us off with bargain basement Flash graphics, but I've just seen the "gameplay" and it appears there are no real puzzles or free will. Simply click on hotspots to trigger dialogue/action sequence.
This looks to be the Monkey Island equivalent to the Phantom Menace, GOT Season 8 or the 2016 Ghostbusters.
Even other small point and click indie devs put a lot more effort on graphic than the guys making the new Monkey Island. What a piss poor effort for the most important franchise in the genre.

Don't forget Disney owns the company that owns this franchise and it's creator needed permission to make this. There's no chance this won't be objectionable.

Art style is pure gargabe.
What a piss poor effort for such the most important franchise in the genre.
IMO I think the art style will turn off lots of players, including me. So in the end I think choosing it will hurt the game in the long run. We'll see what happens but I believe the game will fail commercially and that will be sad because I love MI, but choosing the wrong art style for the game will put it back in the freezer. A lost opportunity. But yeah, it's how I feel about it :)

And just like that, another classic gaming legend had to be butchered by "Progressives".
Even an escapist fantasy adventure computer game about Pirates has to be politically correct.
Sadly, I will have to give this a miss.
I wouldn't want to contribute in any way to Hez Chorba's pay packet.
I will stick with the Special Edition versions of the first two classics.

The animation is just terrible!
unfortunately RtMI sucks.
It has very bad writing, the artstyle is OK for background but make the characters quite soulless, because the eyes are just dots and lack expression. The voice actors are mostly horrible, many sound like Lesbians in transition to male, especially Lock Smith sucks. There's a painting in her shop showing her parents and herself - it's 3 women, which makes it obvious that this game was created by woke morons with no talent. Ron had this once chance to fix the ending of MI2, but he doubled down on disrespecting the players and by doing this he made replaying any of these games basically impossible unless you can forget this game even exists. Technically it's pretty good, but there's too much pointless dialogue and the puzzles are too easy. The game just lacks a pleasant atmosphere, it's all brought into current times and politics. The whole game basically is making fun of "bad dads" aka Guybrush who is basically a beta soy cuck, liar, and bad storyteller. The whole Pirate flair has gone down the toilet with the revelation that he made the whole sh1t up.

The game looks like a mobile phone game….it’s horrible. I bought it played for less than one minute couldnt stand the visuals any longer.
While thankfully this game came out on Playstation and Xbox platforms recently, it's really weird that it only came out on each platforms' "next gen" consoles and not on the PS4 and Xbox One as well, even though it came out on the Switch?! 😯😂🩲😀🤘
