- Split across three hilarious Tall Tales packed with secrets and side-quests, Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island invites pirates to meet classic characters, in a new narrative that brings the iconic locations of Monkey Island to the Sea of Thieves.
The adventure begins on Mêlée Island, where pirates can take in the sights, smells and roguish splendour of the island as they seek to uncover why everyone suddenly seems to think quite highly of self-proclaimed mighty pirate, and known poodle pacifier, Guybrush Threepwood. Something's quite clearly wrong...
This love-letter to the classic adventure game series will be available to play alone or with a crew, with three Tall Tales being added over three months as free updates for all players, starting July 20th.

@Coraldiamond 192 Yeah, I played it at the start of season 9 but not for very long. You just need a break from it sometimes. But there's already some good new stuff to come back to. Season 8 was insane
the thing I hated about games like destiny 2 is that they almost want you to feel bad for not playing 24/7, Rare nails this aspect, they don't penalize you if you take a break

Same here!! I've been playing Curse of Monkey Island with my dad and brother since I was 5, Curse will always be my fave video game ever. I lost my freaking mind when I saw this trailer on Steam, I genuinely screamed I was overcome with nostalgia. Can't wait to play this game!!!!!

HELL YES. The Monkey Island games were such a massive part of my childhood and seeing them pay this much attention into recreating it SoT style is AMAZING. The spinning anchor in the bar, Stan’s notorious unmoving jacket texture, the circus, mansion and chicken puzzles. It’s all here! I am BEYOND excited for this. Finding the Monkey Island easter egg in the pirates life adventure was already jaw dropping for me but NOW WE GET A WHOLE ADVENTURE ABOUTIT?!
Better. According to the description, this is gonna consist of three Tall Tales added over the course of three months, meaning _this is going to be a permanent thing._

I love how they got the looks of the locations from the first Monkey Island game down to the smallest details! Plus: Rubber Chickens with Pulleys in The Middle!!!

How could I not see this coming? This seems like such an obvious crossover, but still seeing the classics in a modern SoT-style is still a shocking pleasure.

Seeing this makes me both happy and a little sad. My Dad isn't able to operate a computer anymore, but he would have loved this so much. He was a major Monkey Island fanboy. He was well into his 50's when the games orginally came out, but he'd be up at all hours of the night trying to figure out that one last puzzle before bed.
I am going to LOVE this. You guys even got Stan’s plaid right! And Dominic Armanto himself is back as Guybrush!
The only disappointment is Lechucks voice, but Earl has already been firm on his retirement,

The first PotC tall tale was a throw back to Monkey Island nostalgia when I first heard the song, but this is going to be fantastic!

I HAVE BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR THIS! The only reason I first started playing Sea of Thieves in the first place all those years ago was because the aesthetic felt so Monkey-Island-ish to me. This is a dream come true.
Got chills watching Melee island pop into view. The Monkey Island games were the first PC games I came to love, and instilled a life long love of all things piratey in me. I will definitely come back to Sea of Thieves to play this. So excited.
Been a huge Monkey Island fan since childhood. This game always gave me similar vibes, and I really enjoyed my short time with it. Unfortunately my friends aren't interested. But this is so hype that I might need to learn to play solo.

Stan's jacket has worked like that since the first Monkey Island game. At first it was done to save time on the sprites, but the magic jacket ended up becoming a part of his design
I love that they went the extra mile to replicates Stans coat and its unmoving plaid

Nice. I have never played the original monkey island, but i have watched a trailer and this seems to respect it highly. Can't wait to dive onto the island for the first time and explore its secrets.
I definitely recommend buying some of the first monkey island games (at least). Especially now with the steam summer sale you can pick them up for very cheap and they're great, plus I guarantee you'll enjoy this update more having played some of the games too!

@@giggsi1006 Nevertheless, the games are great and on their own they are a great experience, if you won't play them to understand the crossover, you should still play them for how good they are. You can pick the first ones up for really cheap at the end of the month with the steam summer sale

I played Monkey Island 2 for hundreds of hours when it came out in 1991. I was 9 years old and played it on my 33mhz computer. I can't tell you how excited I am.

Hearing the monkey island theme again gives me such good vibes, I was reminded of it during the "a pirates life" tall tale, the first one, there is a special commendation where you read journals from guybrush's ship, and all the while in that area it plays the theme, so calming

My question, will this add content into the normal sea of thieves as well, like with 'A Pirate's Life' we got phantoms, sirens, trident, and sea crawlers. What could we expect to see come to our normal gameplay experience?

@@giggsi1006 ziplines and frontal cannons would definitely shake up the normal sea of thieves, no longer having to wait for a broadside to lay fire
I hope this adds some mechanics that will make it into the main game and not just be a separate tall tale serever that everyone will do enough to get the cosmetics then never touch again
The pirates life tall tale gave a nice new shanty to the game so I’m excited for whatever this brings. Hopefully another shanty

@@sonogrande7628 I know, but they have tended to keep these updates very secretive. Not even updating insiders, like with a pirates life. If they added forward facing cannons to only one galleon in only one tall tale it would be a bit weird. I’m sure more info will come out before the launch date

WOW. Why is no one talking about Stan's costume being animated the same way as in the original game? This is incredible detail work!
I made a comment about that too. Such a nice touch. I thought it was funny to keep the "lazy" animation in Return to Monkey Island last year even though it would have been easy to do it right, but it's so cool they kept it for this too. Honestly with 3D rendering it was probably harder to make it this way than if it was just regular. So in 2023 they put in extra work to make his jacket look the weird way it did in 1990 because it was easier that way
@@cptlatham6126 They managed to do this in 3D for every previous 3D entry as well. Stan's jacket behaves the same way it does in 1-3 as it does in Escape, Tales and Return.
I've been playing a sea of thieves since 2021, I love the game with all my heart, but I also see what a terrible situation it is now from the number of bugs and cheaters, lack of optimization and cluttered store with recolors. Dear Rare, you can see the statistics of players yourself, more than 50% of players have already left the game compared to a year ago. We'll wait if necessary, but please add anti-cheat to the game, hire a responsible for optimizing the game and a couple of good skin designers. On behalf of the entire community of the game - we beg you, do not let the game die. We don't need a monkey island as much as the main important options described above. Thank you for giving my comment a minute.

I am only 15 but i remember my dad buying Monkey Island 1 for me and my brother. Since then The Monkey island series are one of my favorite Games + Sea of thieves also being one of my favourite games. After Playing Monkey Island 1,2,3 and the newest one for multiple times, i am really looking forward to this Crossover. Thanks Rare for letting this happen!!!
First game I ever got was Monkey Island: Special Edition
Monkey Island. The series that introduced me to adventure games and games in general. For me there is nothing better than this collaboration. When A Pirate's life came to us 2 years ago, I almost shed a tear as a rush of nostalgia hit me, while secretly hoping for more monkey island content. Now we get this. Rare has show once again what a company that loves its game is capable of. I tip my hat once again and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

OMG, beginning this year is was looking to play an adventure game. To feel like a kid again. Then I stumbled on the legend that is the first monkey island. I can’t begin to know what the nostalgia will be for the people who played it years ago. I’m really excited to play this new update. Keep up the good work!
