  • Having a newer console like the XBOX Series X or PS5 means with a proper display that supports HDMI 2.1, you can get awesome and potentially game-changing features such as 4K/120Hz, variable refresh rate and also better audio through eARC if those consoles are connected directly to your display.
    But what if you have an older receiver that DOES NOT support eARC, but still want the best audio AND video features that HDMI 2.1 devices offer? Thankfully, a cheap $50 device can make a world of difference!

    Just bought one and got it up and running. Great little product. I have an old but good Denon AVR 1910 receiver, with a Nvidia Shield and LG OLED55A2. I now have the full audio capabilities (Dolby TrueHD etc) and control of all 3 from the LG remote. Ony point to note is the power, appears to be a little sensitive to low power output.

    Thanks for covering this nifty device. Here in Germany, the exact same device is being sold under a different brand called Feintech.
    One important thing to set-up, in the LG OLED Sound Setting 'Digital Sound Output' (at video mark 5:50 if you want a visual clue), you must set it to Pass Through.
    The only thing I wish this device handled was letting me somehow choose to show the AV receiver video. But it's a small price to pay in order to get eARC Audio from my old HDMI 2.0 receiver :)

      Found it at Kaufland as DIGITUS HDMI eARC Converter/Splitter. Likely made in China somewhere and rebranded by a dozen companies. I'd much rather see something like this made by an actual US/EU company with decent documentation, firmware updates and support.

      @@newguy69 I wouldn't hold my breath on that. It's a workaround gadget, and unlikely to be produced by a renowned manufacturer, specifically for older equipment.

    I’m glad you made this. The other one I saw was $200 bucks, which is a little pricey, but who knows, it may perform better. I really like my tx-nr 787 and don’t want to replace it just for e arc. $50 is an easy fix.

    I ended up buying one of those about 6 months ago. After at least a dozen hours trying various combinations with a new Pioneer AVR (LX305) and a new Samsung TV (S95B) trying to get eARC to work I just had to admit defeat. I had a similar problem with trying to use either the AVR or the TV to power it and so used an old Apple power adapter from a now obsolete iPhone. It still drops audio but maybe only once a month or so, power cycling it brings it back.

    We need you back to the REW stuff😂 I’ve been watching your older videos, but it seems with the EXCL UMIK input feature the use of ASIO4ALL is no longer needed. Would be awesome to do a video where you level match multiple subs, use the SVS Parametric EQ to optimize each sub, run Audyssey and then tune the XOs all through REW using the updated video where you use the adjust the frequency and distance trick, then use the Audyssey XT app to further optimize for people not wanting to use the minidsp. Seems like with having SVS app, newer receivers with individual sub outputs and Audyssey XT app, maybe minidsp is not needed and I a video showing how you would do that would be awesome!

    I was just looking for a way to have a dedicated input on my older Samsung tv for gaming. This little unit allowed me to run my video from Xbox Series X to that input and then run Dolby Atmos to my Marantz pre/pro. TV just has arc and Marantz has been upgraded to earc. Seems to work very well but have had the odd sound droppout for a couple seconds here and there. It is rare though.
    Actually bought a second one for my PS5 to another dedicated game input on the tv and no issues at all. Might have something to do with PS5 not supporting Atmos.

    I've seen some devices on amazon that allow 4k@120hz hdr VRR all sound formats but I'm not very trusting. My TV is eARC but receiver just ARC, I tend to plug my ps5 into the av receiver as I value 7.1 more than vrr but I did notice some frame rate issues on the last of us part 1 as it allowed I think either 1440p 120hz or 1080p 120hz through hdmi 2.0b.
    Maybe I will try this or one of the other options from amazon UK

    Regarding Dolby Atmos delay with series x. I have the Onkyo txrz50, so even with the series x directly plugged into the receiver. I notice a delay with Dolby Atmos as well. DTS:X however just has a tiny delay where it's small enough to where it doesn't bother me. There has been a delay with Dolby Atmos for years and I've lost hope that Dolby/Microsoft will ever fix it.

      You know, I had something in the video that I removed talking about my "history" with Dolby Atmos on the XBOX One X, and how I could never get rid of the audio delay with that console. I ended up removing it because I REALLY went off topic, but needless to say I have NEVER been able to get rid of the Dolby Atmos audio delay on either the One X or Series X.

    So just to ensure I understand this correct. I have an older receiver that cannot pass 4k 120hz signal to my projector. As a result, I have a second hdmi cable running from my ps5 directly to my projector. I have my avr connected to the eARC port on my projector. Because my receiver only has ARC, I only get a 2.1 audio signal. This leaves me to either enjoy 120hz gaming with stereo, or 60hz gaming with surround sound gaming. If I put my eARC cable from the projector on the input of this device, and connect a hdmi cable from the output of this device to my reciever, I will be able to get the surround sound from my ps5 over ARC, and still get 120hz gaming?

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Рік тому +5

      Absolutely correct. eARC out from projector to the eARC port on the OREI eARC extractor, then HDMI out to the receiver using the Out2 port on the OREI. Just make sure you plug that cable into an INPUT on your receiver, not the output from your receiver that has ARC on it. I think that’s why people have issues with this.

    Hi,will this work with hdmi 1.4 without arc?

  • @akyhne
    @akyhne Рік тому

    I'm very confused with EARC, cause my TV supports it, and my Denon AVR-X2400H doesn't.
    But whenever I play a video from a source, like Disney Plus with audio, like Dolby Atmos, my receiver detects it perfectly through HDMI, and apparently plays it fine. The receiver detects any audio as expected, through ARC.
    Btw.,your box says your unit supports CEC.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Рік тому +2

      With Atmos on Disney Plus, it’s the “lossy” version of Dolby Atmos, not lossless Dolby Atmos like you’d find on 4K Blu-ray’s or through Dolby Atmos supported games. There is a difference in audio quality between them, sometimes pretty substantial and sometimes not. But if you try to play a Dolby Atmos disc through an XBOX or Blu-ray player using standard ARC, you’ll get Dolby Digital 5.1, it even Atmos (the XBOX also won’t allow you to select Dolby Atmos in the audio settings either if using standard ARC). Devices like the Apple 4K TV don’t currently support these lossless codecs either like Dolby Atmos, and again it will send out the lossy version of those tracks.
      The CEC functionality only applies to the input side of the device, not when using it as an eARC extractor which is how I use it and how the majority of people interested in it would too.

    • @darealestwon
      @darealestwon Рік тому

      eARC only comes into play of you’re playing something directly connected to the tv or through one of the tv’s internal not used if you’re using a source plugged into the receiver. Remember, eARC stands for enhanced audio return channel,audio returning from the television to the receiver. Also, even if you were talking about sources plugged into the tv or the tv’s internal streaming apps, plain old ARC will get you atmos if it’s embedded. In a Dolby digital plus stream, such as in Disney plus or Vudu. This is a lossy form of atmos supported by ARC. If you , for instance plugged your blu ray player into one of the tv’s hdmi inputs, it wouldn’t be able to send the lossless tru hd or dts hd master audio signal down to the receiver, because they would both have to be eARC compliant for get lossless audio transmission down the pipe, unless you bypass this with a device like the one in the video. I hope that clears it up for you.

    • @akyhne
      @akyhne Рік тому

      I'm only taking about what's coming from the TV's apps, like from Disney Plus.
      Everything else is connected to the receiver, directly, via HDMI, eg 4K BD player.
      I have heard, that it's a down mixed signal that enters the receiver, if it's not EARC compatible, but I've always understood, that it would be down mixed to Dolby Digital, it for example the signal from the TV was Dolby Atmos or Dolby TRUE HD. And that the receiver would then report Dolby Digital.
