  • UPDATE- The audio is not in sync with the video (adding the emojis using my phone messed things up) so the demonstration in this video is not a great representation of the actual experience... in saying that, try to compare the phone recording to the direct game capture, you'll find they are very close.
    This is a follow up to a video from when I first got this device.
    Watch here- • Cheap earc hdmi audio ...
    That video has a few views so it seems this information has some demand... So I decided to make a better video... i'm no content creator so go easy on me!
    I hope this is helpful... please 'like' to help me get some Dad Cred, plus that'll help this video become more visible for others needing an answer to their audio woes.
    Feel free to leave a comment, i'll keep an eye on them and try to answer.
    Have a good one!

    Excellent video mate.
    Love the illustrations. You explained it very well and for someone who's not a content creator you certainly got your editing skills in order! The only thing left for me to say... get yourself some height channels mate that way you'll be able take full effect of a 'non virtual' Dolby Atmos setup. It's a whole different level!

    Thank you so much for your picture illustration, it really helped! I'm purchasing a similar device so I can connect my older ARC home theater system and get proper audio from my PS5 for watching 4K movies. I think the setup is similar to yours. So basically I just connect the PS5 to my TV like normal and then connect the audio extractor to my home theater system?

    • @swingingudders
      @swingingudders  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah that's the idea, does your TV support earc?
      Make sure earc is on and you are using an eaec supported hdmi to output, connect that to the device, and then to your AVR.
      Don't use arc on your avr or it will mess it up, don't use crappy hdmi cables or it won't work.
      The device should output the full uncompressed audio and a blank video image.
      I have found there is a small audio delay still when gaming, but it's hard to notice.
      The device isn't perfect, but it's a good solution at a good price.

      @@swingingudders so My Orei Converter arrived today. Had my eARC 18GB HDMI cable from my LG C2 TV into the eARC port on the converter. Next to it had an HDMI cable from the Audio port to my Pioneer VSX-529 AV Receiver going into the GAME HDMI (IN) (also tried in the BD HDMI IN) didn't put into the HDMI ARC (OUT). Turned on the eARC on the LG TV and tried it on and off on the AV Receiver... Nothing. :-( Only good thing that came out of this is when I returned the unit via Amazon AU that process was amazingly easy a courier is picking up tomorrow to take from New Zealand to Australia... no cost to me. Brilliant! This disappointment has also tipped the scales and I am now buying a new latest eARC Sony AV Receiver that should play nice with the LG TV straight out of the box. I'm guessing either I have a faulty converter unit or the LG and Pioneer were never meant to play nice together. Cheers.

      Sounds like a similar problem I had, my onkyo was supported atmos and I couldn't justify buying a new AVR with earc (or hdmi 2.1 which is apparently problematic).
      With this device, you use earc out from your TV, audio is maintained but the video is converted to a black 720p image (reducing bandwidth) so your standard hdmi on your AVR will receive full quality audio.
      And CEC also works somehow so you can adjust AVR volume with your TV remote.

      That should be fine, the video output to TV is only hdmi 2.0 so once you get your new TV just run your PS5 directly to hdmi 2.1 TV port.
      You may need to disable earc on the soundbar for it to work, I don't have a set up like yours but if it isn't working try reverting to normal hdmi on your soundbar.

    Hello! Great video! I believe that you are referring to Arcana device (it costs ~$250), however it does a slightly different thing. I believe that your (cheaper) device still requires TV to have eARC that it is able to pass to your AVR. I think that Arcana would be able to connect your XBOX to a TV/projector without eARC/ARC. It is more expensive because it needs to simulate an eARC signal.

      I can't remember if all tof the LG TV hdmi ports are support earc, but you need to make sure the one you use is, it may say earc next to the port.
      Enable earc in the TV audio menu, you probably have to do this with your reciever as well (and plug into earc port).
      I don't think you need this device as both your TV and reciever should support earc, if you can't get them to talk then this should work as a last resort.

      That's the problem with this stuff, only very recent gear has support for earc, hdmi 2.1 etc, so upgrading a very new and expensive amplifier as it doesn't have a new feature is tough.
      Buying a new AVR to gain Dolby Atmos is a lot of money, but although your Bose system is nice it's limited by optical/coax.

    I just purchased the Samsung QN90A which has eARC output. I have it connected to my 10+year old Denon receiver that only has an ARC port, and it just doesn't work. I got this device hoping it would do the trick but it hasn't done it unfortunately. I've followed the instructions and have it connected to a standard HDMI port on the receiver (not the ARC port) but it's still significantly worse than the quality I had with my 2017 Samsung that was an Arc to Arc connection. I don't know if I need to get a modern receiver that has an eARC port or if I should just return the TV - I miss my high quality surround sound😕

      It should work from what you have said... Make sure you are using ultra hd hdmi with ethernet cables, especially from the TV to this device.
      Maybe play around with your settings, I have an LG and enabled passthrough so my TV doesn't try to decode the audio or do something weird... I think that's essential for earc anyway.

One question: I've got an LG OLED48C24LA (with eARC(ARC HDMI port) and an old Harman Kardon AVR-460 HT Ampli (only 4X1.4a HDMI port, no eARC/ARC port) that's wired with optical cable; do you think that I'll get a better audio quality and more Dolby protocols than optic connection, using this HDMI FeinTech VAX01202? I also have got an LG soundbar with eARC/ARC HDMI port that I use for all days purposes (TV programs, TV news, movies without partcular audio effects, etc); is there a possibility to connect the TV to the device input, soundbar to eARC port of the device and the ampli to audio out of the device? Or I will have to change the HDMI wires any time I'll want to use ampli instead of soundbar?

    • @swingingudders
      @swingingudders  Рік тому +1

      This is an interesting one, I can't think of a way to get it all working with this device.
      You need the TV's earc port for the soundbar, I don't think there is a way for this device to direct the audio to multiple avr/soundbars.
      Also, I have found LG TV's will pass through Atmos but not other Dolby surround formats for some reason.
      I think it's worth using an AVR with atmos (a decent speaker set up) for theatre over a soundbar.
      I use my theatre speakers for tv/music/everything and its a joy.
      If your avr can't go atmos I would just stick to the soundbar for everything.
      Try to avoid optical for audio, use your TV's earc port with your soundbar for everything.
      Sorry if this was little help, I've never had a soundbar.

      From what I can see online your z906 set up only takes optical inputs (not hdmi).
      This device is hdmi only and will not help in any way.
      To be honest to get what you want (5.1.2 atmos) you need to look at buying an AVR which supports this, plus new speakers... Lots of money.
      You can't add to your logitech set up, it's an all in one system which is very limited... Good for cheap 5.1 with older consoles and PC's but for big bad home audio you need an AVR and build off that.

    Hi Mate, I have a Philips oled805 TV with only an arc port. To connect to the TV, I used Sonos Arc + 2 one SL + 1 sub. So far, the built-in Netflix TV has performed admirably. I can play Dolby Atmos without any delay. However, when I connect my PS5 to the Philips TV and use the Dolby sound option in PS5, it shows dolby 5.1 but the sound has a 0.5 s delay, which I can clearly hear. When I switched it to PCM, there is no delay, but the soundbar was operating on a stereo model, which produces only two channels of sound, and the sound was very crisp. So I'm wondering if This extractor will fix the delay issue when I use PS5?

    • @swingingudders
      @swingingudders  3 роки тому

      Hi, I'm not sure this will fix your issue but I'm no expert... I just say that because earc has some audio sync tech which arc lacks.
      In saying that, it sounds like your delay is coming from the PS5 as netflix seems to work fine?
      Or perhaps the TV is decoding the Dolby signal, is there an option to pass through the audio on your TV?
      Or does the PS5 decode Dolby? Is there a pass through option in PS5 menu (then let TV decode)?
      This device will let you split audio and video which may work... So plug your PS5 to this device, then hdmi video to your TV, and another hdmi to your soundbar.
      I can't guarantee this will sync everything, and you lose hdmi 2.1 features like 120fps at 4k.
      A few things to try, first see what pass through options you have, the delay may be coming from the audio being decoded somewhere.

    • @swingingudders
      @swingingudders  2 роки тому

      This should work as long as your TV can pass through Dolby digital plus... I believe regular arc will only handle compressed atmos using the DD+ codec, and I'm not sure about any audio delays.
      Your sonos beam 2 probably supports ARC anyway, so I'm not sure this device will actually do anything for you, as your TV does not support earc you are stuck with arc limitations, you should get atmos but not uncompressed.

    • @swingingudders

      I don't think so, this is for when you have an earc TV and non earc AVR or soundbar... It extracts the uncompressed audio and passes it via a standard hdmi.

      for that you would want the HD Fury Arcana, it does the opposite of what this device does. connect a external device (like xbox or nvidia shield) to an earc capable Soundbar and video signal to your TV. for when your TV does not have earc. i have this. that way you are still able to get Dolby TrueHD Atmos instead of only lossy Atmos, and Dolby Vision to your TV. and it fixes the lipsync issue some people have with the Sonos Arc.

      Sorry was hard for me to follow how you have things connected.
      But make sure you have arc disabled on your amp (I use a non ARC hdmi port on my onkyo AVR).
      So earc out from the TV, use high speed with ethernet hdmi cable to the audio extractor, then hdmi to standard port on the AVR.
      Make sure pass through is enabled on the TV.
      If your amp supports atmos you should get atmos like me, and I'm pretty sure it should also be lossless.

    So technically, you skip using the input (ie from XSX) but connect this device via earc (on both end, device & tv) and use the audio (out 2) directly to your AVR? and the atmos issues fixed?

    • @swingingudders
      @swingingudders  3 роки тому +3

      If you have a TV which supports eARC...
      Then you plug your xbox series x into the TV, then you use your TV's eARC port to connect this device, then with another hdmi cable it will connect to standard hdmi port on your AVR... This device extracts the high quality audio.
      But (I'm not sure if this is correct) I believe you could also plug your xbox series x into this device and you can then run video (only up to 4k60) to your TV and audio seperately to your AVR. But you don't get hdmi 2.1 video features like 120fps, vrr etc.
      This image kind of suggests this may work... But it's not how I have it connected. i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Oz0AAOSwas1gXDx6/s-l400.jpg

    I have a Yamaha RX-V479 receiver that is only capable of passing through 4k @ 60Hz in 4:2:0 format. Like you, using the passthrough to connect to a display tha is capable of 4k @ 120Hz in 4:4:4 format just limits the video quality. Especially when the display has VRR and FreeSync Plus capabilities also. Having this 2nd video about this little gem to say that it is worth buying helps solidify my purchase decision. My source is my PC and I have tried internal and external sound cards, using the modified Windows drivers to force Dolby Digital and DTS output from the onboard S/PDIF, connecting the receiver to it's own HDMI port on my graphics card with the display connected to a second port (Which introduced a whole different set of issues.), the list could go on, which it sounds like you are familiar with those issues. I'm not even looking to use all that this device is capable of. As long as I get Dolby Digital and DTS on the audio side and can get VRR and FreeSync Plus on the video side all working, I'd be good. I could care less about the CEC and ARC support. The other option is a new Yamaha RX-V4A receiver, and while I definitely would like to go that route, I just got done upgrading my PC to the AM5 platform and dumped about $1,000 USD in the process of doing so. So, I'm sure that you can see where this extractor looks pretty damn appealing when I have a receiver that is still quite a capable audio device.
