  • In this video I showcase this all-new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 1958 Edition. There's a lot to like about this Land Cruiser... a few things to not like so much, but overall... It's a solid option from Toyota. Built in Japan, simplistic at it's core, and semi-affordable (compared to the First Edition Land Cruiser anyway)... Having owned a few Toyota FJ Cruiser Trails Teams and 200 Series Land Cruiser Heritage Editions, I've developed HIGH expectations for the Land Cruiser nameplate. This is the most iconic vehicle to come from Toyota (in my humble opinion), thankfully, I feel like Japan knows that too. The Japanese take tremendous pride in building this Land Cruiser, which is why they keep it's production in Japan.
    Do you think this LC250 (Prado version) lives up to the Land Cruiser name? The previous generation offered in the US was in 2021, it had a refined 5.7L V8 and a plush leather interior... split hatch/tail-gate, and unmatched reliability. That 200 series was, however, VERY expensive. Starting at $86K, it was too steep for most Americans. But, if you know, you know. There was nothing quite like that 200 series, it was truly built like a tank. It felt like you were driving a bank vault, which was incredible.
    This 4 cylinder hybrid LC250 feels a bit like a knock-off, and I know that's harsh to say but it doesn't provide the same feeling as the 200 did. Would you agree? I do, however, really appreciate Toyota's attempt at making this 1958 Edition Land Cruiser "bare bones" and simplistic. THIS is what Toyota Land Cruiser enthusiasts want and desire. We just want simplicity, affordability, and reliability. That's it! This is the closest trim to that with a starting MSRP around $56K. Way better than the $77K price tag with the First Edition trim.
    Let me know your honest thoughts of this 1958 Edition. Are you onboard with it? Or would you prefer the last of the 5th genertion 4Runner instead?
    Thank you for watching as always, your support means a lot and it doesn't go unnoticed. If you haven't done so already, I'd really appreciate it if you'd consider Liking and Subscribing! Many more in-depth reviews to come!

    what i love the most, high chair and theres fuel door release, even if you sleep inside your car, your confident that no one will open your gas door and do bad things, thats the most important safety feature for me

    too expensive for a high complexity 4 banger, no power adjusting seats, cloth seats, no automatic back door, 8 inch screen and no disconnecting sway bar. and paying over 70k for the limited edition is just criminal. In what way that vehicle is more worthy than a GX460/GX550? Don't sell yourself over this.

      absolutely nothing. People are just enamoured over the name plate and design, but the GX is clearly the better buy. Only difference I can see is Toyota will be cheaper to maintain and Lexus may charge a premium for the same maintenance just because its "luxury". If you're not off-roading, might as well get an Acura MDX Type-S, it beats both LC and GX in value and quality with exception to off-road capability. Buying an off-roading and not off-roading is fine, to each their own, but if you don't off-road, you're really getting ripped off getting an LC. MDX is like a sports car on pavement, LC will drive like a boat in comparison. Never mind you're getting all the luxury you will never find on an LC premium. Even the first edition is MORE expensive than an MDX Type-S lol People who are not off-roading will get sick of the LC after the honeymoon phase when they realize they could be driving an Acura Type-S instead.

    I appreciate the full liftgate, when it’s raining and I’m gearing up for hiking or fishing it’s nice to stand under.

    I deliberated with getting my wife one of these but ultimately went with a 4Runner Limited because of its bulletproof reliability and it was cheaper.

    I'm on the list to get a 1958 from my local dealer. First thing I want to do is swap out the tires. Could you guestimate the biggest tire I could get without rubbing. I'm not interested in lifting or cutting. I'm guessing 275/70R18?

    • @untamedreviews

      I’d start there too. But to ridge grapplers for the win! Or KO3s 👌

    • @jimmythefish
      @jimmythefish 2 місяці тому

      Apparently 275/70R18 is the biggest that doesn’t rub. I don’t know if it will fit into the spare wheel well but the difference in size is minimal so I’d assume yes. I’d run KO3s in the summer and Blizzaks in the winter in that size.

    vloggers have different prices, regarding base, some says 57k, others 61k. i dont know really the real base price

    • @untamedreviews
      @untamedreviews  Місяць тому +1

      Technically it’s 55,800 but then you add in the destination delivery and handling of about $1800… so $57K is the true starting base for us. Anything beyond that is due to optional equipment like running boards and roof racks.

    I’d have to step up a level. I hate when it’s obvious the screen doesn’t fit. And the next level up has nicer interior materials (I believe). Still wondering if they won’t actually offer more interesting variants in a year. 3 row (non-hybrid) LC?

    At first I liked the rectangular headlights better but the round ones are growing on me. I like the 1958's cloth seats, they seem to be a more rugged material similar to 90s Toyota trucks. Toyota likes to place the hybrid battery on the interior, which makes sense because there is no additional heating and cooling needed for an under car battery, just a fan to circulate interior air. It has a trailer brake controller from the factory which is not common on midsize SUVs. Also have you tried out the heritage Toyota sounding horn?

    Sounds like they should have called this the “Hard Plastic Edition” and skipped the 1958 after listening to your review. I hate that cargo space battery and hope they dump that and had a V6 in a future model year.

    • @PWCDN

      just get a Lexus GX, the base GX is same price as the LC premium lol. The LC premium is same price as a fully decked out Acura MDX Type-S, let that sink in. Unless you're going off-road as a past time, the LC is ridiculously overpriced because of the name, even then, you can get a GX....a LEXUS badge. If you're pavement driving, you'll have way more fun with a Acura MDX Type-S, with massage seats, 25 speaker audio, V6 and the list goes on.

    Should’ve left all the off road stuff and the same size tires. I can roll with the cloth but no MTS?! I love that about my 4R. Try basic ATRAc in sand… it sucks.

    I get the feeling, in the future, we won’t need infotainment centers, and the whole thing can be shown on our mounted phones that we always carry. A lot like apple car play, but the whole vehicle gets updated to the phone’s via cloud 11:08

    You do realize that the 1958 was intended for those of us that like to build out our rigs. The fact that you went into this with a little bit of negative attitude shows big time. And if you really know how Toyota this power train been tested in Lexus models for years now!

    • @untamedreviews
      @untamedreviews  2 місяці тому

      I say I like it. And that I’d buy it. Those aren’t very negative things to say. It is easily 10-15K overpriced. It’s a no brainer once you sit in one and drive it. Power delivery feels super synthetic, it’s not a surprise that true toyota enthusiasts aren’t too impressed by this. Love that it’s made in Japan though.
      Confirmation bias is a powerful thing, try to avoid it, my friend. 😉

    This is overpriced. Nobody is buying the base model unless they HAVE to off-road at the lowest price possible on an LC (but then might as well go for the 4runner, save on the extra dollars and mod it for more capable). The infotainment on the base model looks like a joke, like a brand-less tablet you get from amazon poorly integrated into the dash, it doesn't look clean at all with all the grill mark trim to fill the blank. Paying for the LC just to look cool is nuts, might as well get the Lexus GX. You can get the flagship Acura MDX Type-S for the same price as an LC Premium....Only thing the LC has over MDX is off road capability which the MDX destroys it on pavement performance, the MDX wins in every other category including value. Even the base MDX has leather and it's cheaper than the base LC. The more research I do when comparing to Honda, Lexus and Acura, the more ridiculous I find the LC to be. I love the design of the LC, but that alone is where the love ends. It makes no sense on paper.

      The Landcruiser has always been a premium model. And it has always been high priced. It is a unique vehicle and highly sought after.
      The MDX is sharp in the right packages. However, the MDX is another boring Honda and not in the same class as a Landcruiser.

    Ew so ugly. Can someone explain to me how ford and gm can still put diesel and big v8 motors in their new trucks but toyota cant for some reason?

    • @PWCDN
      @PWCDN 2 місяці тому

      easy, they didn't develop that kind of technology for consumer vehicles. Unless you want an ancient V8 from the old Tundra/Sequoia's lol You'd still be disgusted with it compared to what Ford/GM offers. I doubt you'll ever see a V6 in the Toyota line up ever again.
