So, a better ride and drive experience, doesn’t have a wireless charger, but has better wheel/tire options, faster, better ownership experience, available 7 seat configuration, better tow rating, and the mpg penalty equates to only $800 a year. I think there’s no question that the GX is a better experience.
I'd highlight one thing in favor of the LC which is it seems more modular in terms of aftermarket upgrades. No cutting required. I hate the idea of cutting a bumper that costs thousands, but some people don't mind at all. Also, we're comparing similar trim which absolutely I agree go GX. Also, all LC250 trims come pretty much ready to off road while the GX premium and luxury (which are the cheaper options) are pavement princesses stock. I think I'd take the GX OT for $69K or the Land Cruiser trim for $62K. Finally, I personally much prefer the interior design of the Land Cruiser.
I think the only way to get a Land Cruiser is go with the “cheap” 1958 trim (can’t believe 55-60k is the lowest trim level lol). But even then if I’m spending 55-60k on a vehicle, I’m honestly going to get something else. At that point though I would honestly get a Honda Passport for 40k and spend the remaining 20k on an old Jeep or something to off-road if that’s why I was buying the Land Cruiser!
@@TheCree2010 I understand your point of view, especially w/ the "two car solution". I will say though, times have changed and inflation is a real thing. These Land Cruisers are no more expensive than previous Land Cruisers adjusted to 2024 dollars, and they come with WAY more power and tech. But yes, it's hard to stomach 55k for cloth seats and very little creature comforts. The 1958 would price be equivalent to 39k in 2010. It's just such a massive difference, but that's around when my personal "normal car price" calculator is baselined. Unfortunately, I have to remind myself that my pricing bias is not in line with the reality of current USD values.
@@JCizzleSoCalah yes unwillingness to spend 72k when it'll be half that in 5-7 years with 60k miles and in the case of the lexus likely in perfect condition means that obviously need a 12 year old beater
@@Christian-Berger I was excited about the new GX and LC but after test driving, I'll stick with my 2006 4th gen 4runner. It not only looks a LOT better (sporty and modern than these ugly "new" designs). The 4th gen just drives better.... believe it or not. [Edit: Oh, and I get 8-13L/100km on average post mods] Granted, I have aftermarket winch bumper, 3" suspension lift (dobbies), full amour & sliders, custom roof rack, a 20" android auto screen for my 3D offroad maps, hard shell roof tent + 3 pairs of crossbars for modular 2 person fishing kayak w/ power drives + sail mast on top of the tent, but the drive is just so sporty and it goes anywhere offroad (like following the non-street legal rock crawlers around). All in, I spent only 20k on the vehicle + mods..... Why would anyone spend 70k on something WORSE when they can spend 20k on something BETTER?
I fell in love with the GX at an auto show back in January. It was listed for more money than I’d ever pay for a vehicle. When the LC was announced but pricing wasn’t I thought, “Sweet! Similar to the GX but cheaper.” Then LC prices were announced. I will wait a decade and buy a used one. I still cannot imagine spending $70k on a car.
Car prices haven’t actually gone up compared to inflation, wages haven’t risen. Everyone shocked by new car prices should be directing their frustration at the federal reserve, not auto manufacturers.
Car and Driver tested both, and got 0-60 in 7.7 for the Land Cruiser First Edition and 6.3 for the Lexus, so a large gap in performance. I would choose the Lexus for the styling. The Cruiser looks good, but the Lexus looks great. And you get a clear step up in performance, but I expect a hybrid version to come in 2025, so that is probably the best move, wait a year or two.
That's a step up in acceleration but not performance. It's not even close to being the total performance picture. And they're both still slow so it doesn't matter.
I have the GX 550, and so far I love it! My only complaint is the small fuel tank, significantly less range than my old 2019 4Runner TRD Off Road, and apparently smaller than the previous previous GX 460. I really feel frustrated about that 1 thing, because I bought it specifically for family road trips, like going to our cabin etc, which is VERY far north of Vancouver, and some exploring😊. Under 400 miles of range on a full tank, in a vehicle like this? Not very good. Aside from that, I can actually daily drive the GX very comfortably! I use to use 4Runner exclusively for trail adventures, camping, road trips (recreation) and winter driving, and daily a Land Rover, but this GX fits perfectly in the middle of the 2 lol.
I know what you mean, I have owned 4 Land Cruisers/LX’s and they ALL have small tanks. My LX570 has a range of ~275 miles at best. It’s absolutely ridiculous
@@treswright142 I was comparing to other midsized segment 4x4s, like my previous 2019 4Runner TRD Off Road that had an on road range of roughly 460 highway miles, in optimal conditions, or the previous GX 460 which had 2 more gallons. I hope auxiliary tanks for the GX 550 hit the market fast! I had a long range auxiliary tank installed in my 2019 4Runner TRD OR, so definitely would like to do that with the GX 550, eventually. I use these rigs for adventures and live in rugged mountain area where unexpected landslide road block detour can add several hours of travel. Range is critical. The GX 550 Overtrail is the overlander trim, so a bit disappointed.
@@legion1630 No. I did not trade the 4Runner for a GX 550. I sold my 2019 4Runner in late 2022, before the GX 550 was even revealed by Lexus. I ordered the GX 550 in 2023, and had to wait 10 months for it, so there was an almost 2 year gap between my having my last 4Runner (which was my second 5th gen), and my new GX 550. I am now a clinical pharmacist, married to a very successful husband and have a baby on the way. I'm no longer a teenager with lots of time for recreation, or the need for a trail/winter beater, like I was. GX 550 fits my new life, perfectly😊
@@treswright142what??? Our Land Cruisers and Lx have a 140 Liter tank!!! And our new landcruiser 250/Prado has a 110L tank How many liters capacity is the ones you guys get in the U.S?
Here's the hard truth as to why car companies jacked up their prices the last few years. During covid when production was really low, dealerships tacked on their markups -often more than $10K per vehicle. Customers still bought and the mfgs saw this. So they basically decided that they wanted a piece of that action and raised their prices as much as they have, seeing that customers apparently were willing to pay that already. The Wall St Journal had an article on that - basically the driver of inflation the last few years were car dealerships gouging customers. And customers willing to take it. This is why we have a $75K Toyota with a rental car interior, cheap plastic bits all over the exterior, and a four cylinder motor.
That is only one piece of the puzzle. When you dilute the value of the dollar by sending money to other countries and when you are giving welfare to non-citizens, you are diluting the value of the dollar to the point where 25% inflation over the last four years has occurred. Up to 55% when it comes to groceries. Car manufacturers didn't impact the price of eggs.
We bought a GX 550 Premium Plus, and I think for the price between that and a Land Cruiser it is a better deal. Now, we are using ours more for a family SUV that drives well and in 5 years I can turn it into an overlanding rig. I think if you were looking at buying one for overlanding / offroading immediately, the Land Cruiser makes more sense, especially over the Overland trim. Both very expensive though. I do wish that the Land Cruiser were priced more in the territory of the Bronco, Wrangler, and Cherokees and let the GX play in the Defender price range.. just my opinion. Cars are pricey.
I bought the Land Cruiser, was still a 3 month wait and I liked how the hybrid drove more than the GX 550 (that instant electric torque is punchy), couple that with better looks on the LC (especially the interior) and better mpg, I think that’s the real winner (but I’m bias here haha)
Color aside, the steering wheel forward is better on the LC but everything after the steering wheel is better on the GX. You can probably option it to have the same color inside as the LC, as that brown does look good. The hybrid from the Tundra will solve the instant torque issues for the GX.
Came to say the same thing. Plus, I had a KDSS 4runner and lifting the vehicle meant some weird things with KDSS so many folks went to the regular 4runner for better articulation compared to the KDSS version. Want better articulation, go LC, want a more flexible on-road vs off-road combo, go GX E-KDSS.
I love the Land Cruiser and my wife loves the Gx but we ended up with the 24 Sequoia Platinum I drove both of them and is funny but I found the LC a little bit more responsive than the GX. Yes the GX had more push but I felt like you had to wait a little before it moved where the LC just moved More impressed with the LC drivetrain in everyday driving. Both of them noisy on the highway once you reach 70 mph due to that more upright windshield. Sequoia within the same cost range , better seven seater then the Gx , quieter than both of them , more comfortable than both of them specially on the highway , less plasticky than both of them, use regular gas, built here in the good old USA. Yes , would like to think that even do it may not have the same fit and finished as something made in Japan ,,, makes me feel good to know that my money feed someone’s kid in Texas. I see the LC for someone that spends a lots of time climbing Engineer Pass and the Gx for a mom that likes a seven seater but not as bulky as the Sequoia. I would strongly suggest driving at least 20-30 miles on and off the highway all three of them before spending $80 Ks. Thank you for a great review I see the future of journalism in the hangs of two very knowledgeable young men
I think this is the move! I have owned 4 LC/LX’s and I believe everyone is sleeping in the sequoia. Looks great and is a better size and is much closer to a real Land Cruiser than either of these. Just all around seems like a better vehicle and value
I have a 2023 Toyota Sequoia SR5 TRD sport package. I love it. I do have a Land Cruiser First Edition coming in any day now. I'll have them both for awhile. I truly love the Sequoia. I'll see how much I enjoy the Land Cruiser when she comes in
@@treswright142I think k this is perfect, the sequoia if you need lots of room for family, soccer mom type, pull your boat or trailer think the Land Cruiser is more for when the kids are grown or don’t have any and you want to do some offloading maybe mild overlanding type stuff, same thing for 4 runner I believe just diff style than land cruiser, Toyota could have easily put bigger v6 in there but purposely didn’t in my opinion
You said, "Yes the GX had more push but I felt like you had to wait a little before it moved..." The GX throttle curve is deliberately sloped by Toyota to make it accelerate slower, I'm guessing since the majority of GX drivers are middle eastern women. I bought mine (from a middle eastern woman) and couldn't believe how pokey it felt off the line, so I did some googling and found out about this issue. Installed a Shiftpower Throttle Response Controller per online recommendations and it immediately solved that problem.
I choose the GX for the twin turbo v6 as my adventure road trip car. Since the GX will not be my daily driver, mpg was not as important as the driving dynamics of the twin turbo. Not a fan of hybrid drivetrains on the open road where torque and power is a must when accelerating past other vehicles. The GX has loads of torque and power on the highways. I could not be more pleased with the 10 speed transmission with the v6 power. On my trip to Mammoth,Ca I never felt a lack of power or the transmission searching for the right gear. The transmission was transparent meaning I did not notice it on the trip. GX for me was the right choice.
Definitely some appeal to the GX, but I do love the inline 4 hybrid setup on the LC and especially like it's included 2400w onboard power. Until GX gets a similar hybrid type option I think my preference is LC.
On the TOYOTA configurator now……total amount financed of $65,757, with $6500 down, excellent credit, and 72 mos finance plan with 8.59% APR, that’s $1176 per month…..the interest rates are killing new car sales…..some rates are as high as 9%.
@@johnrose7212 Credit Unions are good alternatives.. I just closed the deal on my Overtrail yesterday. BofA was the best rate at 7.2…but I plan to refinance with my CU after a couple months.
We got a Land Cruiser with premium package last weekend. We did pay MSRP, but we had to drive 200 miles to a small town dealer to get the exact color combo the wife wanted. Other dealers wanted as much as 15k over (lol) for the same vehicle. I drove it home and it pleasantly surprised me. I've driven several new Tundras and Sequoias and found the V6 drivetrain to be buzzy and the interior quality to be junky compared to my Ram Rebel. Everything in the LC feels solid old-school Toyota build quality, and the 4cyl hybrid is very smooth and torquey. The seats are very comfy. I haven't noticed any wind noise issues, but the upright design hits every bug on the road. We got 20mpg on the trip home. I'm hoping that improves slightly as the engine wears in. Things I don't love- it could use more interior storage, fuel tank is on the small side, the infotainment is not as intuitive as my RAM (but there's a lot more to it), and the sun visors do not pass the Uri and Jakob test. Overall she loves it, and we're looking forward to seeing what the aftermarket comes out with. Me personally, I have a big crush on the GX550 Overtrail. But as stated in the video they're pretty rare at the moment.
Funny enough, just picked up the FE LC (needed the gear for overlanding) and I traded in my 23 rebel. I will miss that truly amazing truck, but we downsized from two vehicles to one and my wife didnt want to daily my rebel. haha
One of the coolest things about Toyota is the roll down back window. (Wish other manufacturers would do that in SUVs and trucks.) They should’ve done that with the Land Cruiser.
We ended up getting the GX over the LC. I couldn't be any happier. I'm not going to complain about fuel economy, I knew what I was getting myself into. My complaint is the seatbelt. I'm short (4'11). When I grab the seatbelt it scratches. I have to be careful. Other than that little thing, I love everything about it. If you're looking for a smooth ride like a Tahoe, go get a Tahoe. This is a rugged vehicle. I think it's smooth because I'm coming from a lifted Taco with mud tires. Anything is smooth.
I drove both and I purchased the Land Cruiser premium. It was a difficult decision to make. The gas mileage and availability were the main reasons why I chose the LC. Lastly the GX wasn’t as masculine as the LC. I have owned it for three months and I still see very few of either vehicle on the road.
As an member of an older generation, I have to laugh at Tommy's comment "..it is amazing that they were able to get this level of ride quality with that solid rear axle.." Perhaps Tommy has forgotten that every older large rear drive American sedan had a solid rear axle and that in general, they all rode soft and floaty! Maybe Tommy has forgotten the old Lincoln that Roman had that belonged to his grandfather!
need to spend $83k on the Lexus to get real leather, memory seats, and still can't have 3 zone HVAC. makes it a hard pill to swallow on the MPG difference. A $70k suv with no wireless charger and no memory seats is an absolute deal breaker, IMO.
Add the hybrid to the V6 for more power and a generator\outlet, the physical switches and screen from the Landcruiser, and keep everything else on the GX.
Land Cruiser should have used its own unique badging. With the Toyota badges, it feels overpriced. Top trims of LC, I would go Lexus GX. Lower trims of the LC, I would go 4Runner
Can't go wrong with either. I have nothing against the hybrid per se, in fact wouldn't mind it. But for my use, cargo space is most important. Room lost to the battery in the rear makes the Lexus my choice. In fact my wife & I already decided on the Lexus as we are near replacing our 16 year old SUV. Overall, I don't drive enough annually to worry about fuel economy.
Inflation killed a lot of excitement these trucks might otherwise would have generated. The price is definitely not worth it. These will make excellent used trucks for those that want to actually drive one without taking a bath in financial losses.
Unless you get the base 1958 Land Cruiser there is not reason to get the Land Cruiser. Toyota really messed up pricing that they have cannibalized Land Cruiser sales because the entry Overtrail is just so much more refined for the same price. I hope this means you can get a 1958 at a discount in a few years and I will pick one up (as long as I fit).
Couple of things to unpack here. First great video. Thank you. Second, I don’t like the raised lip in the back of Land Cruiser. I find that to be annoying especially when trying to load/slide things into the back. Finally? I’d take waiting at a lexus dealership during my oil changes over Toyota any day of the week. Give me my frappachino!!!!! lol. I’d go w lexus hands down. Why they put a four-cylinder turbo in the new land cruiser is beyond me
5,000 units isn't mass produced. Toyota only releasing 5,000 1st Edition which are at $77K MSRP. The 58 and base LC are in the $50K range and will be mass produced. Picking up my 2024 first edition LC on Tuesday.
I'm with Chase. GX 550. But thinking a 3rd row (my wife's car) is not essential but nice to have, I'd go the base Premium and in my area I can get those easily at MRSP, whereas my Toyota dealer wanted 70K for the base Land Cruiser-Land Cruiser an over 6k markup... I'm waiting for the new 4Runner in the fall, a base TRD Off-Road (like my '14 Trail 4Runner) for probably 50K, maybe just under might be the winner for me. The Tacoma Off-Road bests the Land Cruiser acceleration numbers by nearly a second according to Car and Driver and is about a half second off the GX but with about 3 mpg more than the GX, and only 1-2 mpg behind the Land Cruiser.
I sat between GX OL and LC. The mid trim LC interior is as luxury as the Lexus. Also, Lexus just put big touch screen while LC have the buttons which we preferred
If you are not going offroad, no need for the Landcruiser. if luxury is more important, the Lexus is your choice and comes with a v6 instead of 4cy. they serve two different segments, Toyota knows its buyers very well.
I’ve matured and not because of my recent 2021 Sprinter but because I’m old and appreciate nice things. Until the Sprinter, we have been an all Toyota family. Little doubt in my mind….I’m buying the GX as soon as they come out with the hybrid.
My brother just purchased a Land Cruiser today and you can get the off road tires (What I was told is that it is a port installed option) and was about 1500$ for those wheels and tires as an upgrade.
Few reviewers mention this, but the 120V 2400W power inverter in the Land Cruiser is a big deal for a lot of campers/overlanders. The GX only has a 120V 400W power inverter due to its conventional engine. If the GX is offered with a hybrid in the future then that would also allow it to have a 2400W power inverter
Take a Land Cruiser on safari in Africa. Incredible, indescribable off road vehicle. We rode circles around Land Rovers. Why Toyota never offered the same vehicle in the US market is beyond me. It is a tank.

Another great review guys...well done, as informative as anyone My wife owns a Lexus...its the nicest car ive ever been in. and i know im not a Lexus guy...i'd be worried about it every day of the week and twice when driven near other idiots. Plan B-find a clean-ish '20-'24 T4R TRD Pro or LC200, and be almost as happy with the upgrades ill be getting.
I noticed you were driving around the Plano/Frisco area of Dallas, I assume because that's where Toyota USA is headquartered. Any news on when you're going to get a new GX Overtrail up in Colorado for your TFLOffroad channel to do some testing?
The towing capability and engine alone make the GX a much more desirable vehicle. However, it’s a huge miss not to offer a third row option for all trim levels. Also, the interior is a miss. The GX interior is plain, boring and lacks a lot in terms of features and quality materials. Too much plastic, no leather seats, doors, airbag cover, dash in the GX, no 3/4 zone a/c, no wood trim (wood seems like a no brainer in an outdoorsy type vehicle) and an overall cheap interior appearance. Exterior styling is spot on. The Land Cruiser misses on nearly everything and is way overpriced. 4Runner or GX seem like the better options.
The Toyota dealership in Eastern Arizona has received 4 Land Cruisers and 3 were the base model. The one on the floor only option was a rubber mat for cargo area.
A close friend of mine who’s owned Lexus once and Toyota LC twice advised me to definitely choose the 2nd. Dealer service and parts are way overpriced for Lexus, basically for the same car underneath. They overcharge just for the “brand name”, and that is something acknowledged by their own technicians.
I've driven both - LC 2nd row has a snap over cover for the baby seat hooks that runs across your arse and is noticeable and a bit uncomfortable. The Lexus has the same thing, but the material and construction makes it unnoticeable. The uneven space when the seats are laid down in the LC is a no go for anyone who wants to try to sleep in the back of their vehicle whereas the OT+ and Luxury and Luxury + have power seat buttons that make everything flat to lay on. I think the LC is grossly overpriced. If they dropped the price 12-15K it would be worth buying over the GX if you didn't care about extra (and comfortable) seating. Otherwise, the Lexus GX Luxury + is the best choice.
good review. I'm probably getting the LC given the long wait for the Overtrail+, and I have some fondness for LCs given having one since 1995 that is still going strong.
With Toyota's current failure rate I don't think I'd buy either one. The GX is out for sure because it comes with an engine that has to be replaced. It wouldn't matter which one of the two; if I had to have them, they would both be "sunroof deleted" models.
Right there with you on the sunroof delete due to my height. Problem is I was basically told that I couldn’t order one. I just have to wait for one to show up at the dealer. I bought something else.
@@KG_BM If you believe Toyota/Lexus. But isn't it funny that the hybrid V6 engines aren't covered in the recall despite the fact they come off the same line and use the same parts and the same processes? Weird, right? It's also interesting the recall doesn't cover the 2024 models but we're hearing 2024 owners grenading their motors just like the 2022 and 2023.
@tyh6243 per TheCarCareNut channel, that is because the 2024s and hybrids got the revised motor design. If they are still having problems, Toyota will inevitably do another recall. Let us not behave like they aren't trying to fix the problem, afterall they are well aware how damaging this whole recall disaster is affecting so many years of being called #1 in reliability.
@@pico989gallo9 yes but Toyotas are known for leaking sunroofs that caused wiring issues. Just ask Ben Hardy. Even Porsche has sunroof issues, and classic "slick roof" 911's are worth way more than cars with sunroofs.
Lexus GX 550 Overtrail Plus is the winner hands down in my opinion. Twin Turbo V6, better looks and quality (Lexus is a premium version of Toyota period) E-KDSS and Adaptive Variable Suspension, better transmission, better tires and rims and more. I have given deposit on GX 550 Overtrail Plus after driving both. The GX 550 Overtrail and Plus are better drive on and off road and if anyone says other wise they are liars. I like both but GX Overtrail is the way to go.
LC for me, i can go with having 20 less HP and torque with fewer trips to the pump. It can tow the things I need and 90:10 this car will be used as a daily vs any real off roading. Only downside really is the lack of third row but we got a van for that so hey.
Seems like the Landcruiser hybrid system is similar to what I have in my 2022 Mercedes E450 All-Terrain Wagon, with the 42V Hybrid battery providing the torque-fill while the turbo is spooling up (3.0L Inline-6 twin-scroll single-turbo in the Mercedes, unlike the 4-cylinder single-turbo in the LC), and once the engine rpm spools up, the big turbo in the gas engine takes over. The 42V system intervenes everytime an extra power/torque boost is needed to help the gas engine.
What I've seen in researching these 2 SUV is the difference in gas tanks, MPGs but what stood out was the 1st Edition sloppy steering and suspension handling. It has very bad under steering and could possibility be dangerous to a novice driver. I'd stick with the Lexus.
Landcruiser for me, always. This car however will set me back around € 150.000 where I live (The Netherlands). It is so cheap in the US…..unbelievable.
That's an insane amount of money for a re-branded Prado. The 300 series (i.e. one of the two "true" Land Cruisers) doesn't even cost that much in countries where it is available including the US if you want to count the Lexus LX 600.
The LC seems to generate a HUGE spread in 0-60 times between different tests. Anywhere from low 7s to low 9s. Maybe the hybrid system engaging or not engaging and battery level makes a big difference? Not sure.
I need help guys there is 7 trims available here the fully loaded Landcruiser for 64k or the 1958 version with bare bone and steelies cloth seats and center and rear lockers for 48k Only issue is I really don’t like the circular headlights design. Also the fully loaded one has stabilizer bar disconnect premium leather seats and infotainment rear heated and cooled seats and auto third row recliners. All of the trims have 3rd row seating.
I really want to like the Land Cruiser better. But that battery hump in the back and the lack of the 3rd row seating pretty much kills it as an option for me (wife would veto a car without a 3rd row). Although I understand Overtrail also doesn't have 3rd row. So that means for the same price, I'd have to go with the GX550 Premium+. The downside with that trim is the lack of the off-road drivetrain goodies. But if I'm honest, it'd be a mall crawling grocery getter for the most part.
Does the Lexus have the same engine that was recalled as the Tundra? That’s the only concern I’d have. I like the boxiness of the Land Cruiser, but for the features, dealership experience, and engine I’d go Lexus.
Anytime I hear a 4x4 that's over $60k, I really just hope it's worth it and most time they tend to be disappointments compare to what one can get (of course depending on someone's situation, circumstances, taste and Budget). At that price, i'd rather get the Ford ranger raptor, fully kitted out...The powerful engine + Fox racing shocks + Chunky tires and the utility that comes with a double-cab 4x4 pickup = Fun + Utility all in one package. Boy oh boy, now that's a vehicle.😝
I really like both these SUVs, but the GX is clearly the superior product, the Land Cruiser is a great vehicle but the 4-cylinder is a deal breaker given the type of vehicle the Land Cruiser is, the GX feels more upscale too (as expected ofc but the price different between the two isn’t much), if you really want to save money, the new 4Runner coming out soon is a better choice, hard to go wrong with any, but I don’t see much of a place in the market for the current Land Cruiser (personally)
Id get the GX550 Premium over the 1958. $9K more, but bigger engine, more gears, better stereo and display, power seat, heated/ventilated. Roof rails, moonroof,
So, a better ride and drive experience, doesn’t have a wireless charger, but has better wheel/tire options, faster, better ownership experience, available 7 seat configuration, better tow rating, and the mpg penalty equates to only $800 a year. I think there’s no question that the GX is a better experience.

Putting the hybrid from the Tundra in it will make it into a beast.
GX550h hybrid is getting the 2.4L one exact from the Land Cruiser here
I have the GX 550, and so far I love it!
The GX 550 Overtrail is the overlander trim, so a bit disappointed.
you bought a GX and got rid of the 4runner TRD offroad ok

@@SolidBrixStudios good point!
Agree with you on the interior, I like the interior better on the Land Cruiser, but I like the exterior of the GX better
The gx is better looking. But to each their own.
Team Land Cruiser here… but I do like the color options on the GX better
Color aside, the steering wheel forward is better on the LC but everything after the steering wheel is better on the GX. You can probably option it to have the same color inside as the LC, as that brown does look good.
The hybrid from the Tundra will solve the instant torque issues for the GX.
Car and Driver tested articulation for Land Cruiser stabilizer disconnect be GX E-KDSS and the LC had slightly better articulation.
Land Cruiser for me and I personally like the square headlights over the round ones.
I love the Land Cruiser and my wife loves the Gx but we ended up with the 24 Sequoia Platinum
I drove both of them and is funny but I found the LC a little bit more responsive than the GX.
You said, "Yes the GX had more push but I felt like you had to wait a little before it moved..."
The GX throttle curve is deliberately sloped by Toyota to make it accelerate slower, I'm guessing since the majority of GX drivers are middle eastern women.

I just got 6.25 @ 63 months. LC FE.
We just took delivery of our 550 OT+, our 4th GX, and it's awesome. Lexus gives you a loaner anytime your truck is in for maintenance or warranty.
Same, we got the two tone OT+ with rock guards instead of the flat (bust your butt) plastic rail guards
How do you afford it?
It's amazing how much you can save if you're willing to shop outside your area. I'm headed out of state next week to pick up mine.
I think the Land Cruiser with the rectangular headlights looks best, so that’s the one I would pick. The Lexus front end looks like a mess, imo
GX all day.
And it’s not even close
need to spend $83k on the Lexus to get real leather, memory seats, and still can't have 3 zone HVAC. makes it a hard pill to swallow on the MPG difference.
A $70k suv with no wireless charger and no memory seats is an absolute deal breaker, IMO.
That's why I went with the 2022 gx460. $50k and got a more refined V8, nicer quality interior, & 3 zone HVAC.
First Edition has wireless charging and memory seats.
@@ELECTRICEYEMEDIA right, my point was that in the Lexus lineup, you don't get those items at the $70k price point, where as you do with the LC
Add the hybrid to the V6 for more power and a generator\outlet, the physical switches and screen from the Landcruiser, and keep everything else on the GX.
Low MPG coupled with an extremely small fuel tank on the GX equals range anxiety. Best to keep the GX in town. And the LC to go places.
GX has greater range with a 21 gallon tank vs 17 gal tank on LC
Land Cruiser should have used its own unique badging. With the Toyota badges, it feels overpriced. Top trims of LC, I would go Lexus GX. Lower trims of the LC, I would go 4Runner
Land Cruiser. The new 4 cylinder is really good. Tons of torque.
Which one is the better transmission, the 8-speed on LC250 or the 10-speed on the GX?
Inflation killed a lot of excitement these trucks might otherwise would have generated. The price is definitely not worth it.
These will make excellent used trucks for those that want to actually drive one without taking a bath in financial losses.
Not so bad a loss if you keep it for a long time. That's my plan anyway.
I'm in love with this version of land cruiser, I kinda was waiting for it for so long since 2019
Unfortunately for me both are unobtainable due to the high prices. Also, for those prices you'd think they would include a little more kit
Why they put a four-cylinder turbo in the new land cruiser is beyond me
70k for a 4cyl mass produced vehicle is ridiculous. Even 50k is silly money. I can afford these prices but are they worth it? I dont think so.
It's expensive. But what's the alternative? Bronco, Wrangler, G-Wagen?

If you are not going offroad, no need for the Landcruiser. if luxury is more important, the Lexus is your choice and comes with a v6 instead of 4cy. they serve two different segments, Toyota knows its buyers very well.

I noticed you were driving around the Plano/Frisco area of Dallas, I assume because that's where Toyota USA is headquartered. Any news on when you're going to get a new GX Overtrail up in Colorado for your TFLOffroad channel to do some testing?
The Lexus 3.4 V6 is the same engine that's blowing up in the Tundras. I didn't buy the manufacturing debris explanation. Wouldn't touch that V6.
I have been on the fence with these two. Good comparison Thanks for this!
I can't believe these are priced the same... Sheesh... So much more value in the GX
Well, they’re not exactly the same. The Land Cruiser has a step up in the trim level versus the GX that they were driving.
@@eleanormassaro5195 Oh yes, of course. That's totally understandable, but look at the equipment level between the two...
@@nuvamusic also insurance premiums are 20% more for the Lexus
While they are the same underpinnings, it is a entirely different powertrain, features (ekdss), exterior etc
Big miss on not having a tailgate anymore. Wouldn't but6 either just because of that
GX all day. Like you said, Overtrail (not plus) is impossible to get anytime soon.
I really like the GX but too expensive for me right now, will definitely consider when they have depreciated a little in 5-7 years
good review. I'm probably getting the LC given the long wait for the Overtrail+, and I have some fondness for LCs given having one since 1995 that is still going strong.
The only thing I like on the Lexus is the towing cap.
Other than that, I prefer the Toyota
the old V8!!!
Lexus looks better. Toyota looks like a Lego car on the front and the chicken coupe mesh grille
With Toyota's current failure rate I don't think I'd buy either one. The GX is out for sure because it comes with an engine that has to be replaced. It wouldn't matter which one of the two; if I had to have them, they would both be "sunroof deleted" models.
The GX has the corrected version of the V6
Land Cruiser if you want to go off-road more often and like overlanding. GX if you want more Power/Towing capability and comfort.
Great contrast review! First to think of it, too! Excellent!
At the prices- base raptor f-150 anyday
Not sure.
I need help guys there is 7 trims available here the fully loaded Landcruiser for 64k or the 1958 version with bare bone and steelies cloth seats and center and rear lockers for 48k
Only issue is I really don’t like the circular headlights design. Also the fully loaded one has stabilizer bar disconnect premium leather seats and infotainment rear heated and cooled seats and auto third row recliners.
All of the trims have 3rd row seating.
Kase 👀 dude is nice to look at
I’m sure Toyota did a heap of development work in Australia considering the Prado market.
And RODE microphones,
Australias finest !
I like the looks of the LC more but considering the price for these specific models is almost equal, I'd take the Lexus.
I vote 4 Land Cruiser!
Neither. They cost too much. First year release. Got a 2024 4Runner instead.
Thirteen year old product 🤡
Id get the GX550 Premium over the 1958. $9K more, but bigger engine, more gears, better stereo and display, power seat, heated/ventilated. Roof rails, moonroof,
Gx 550.... Walked over to my nearest dealer.. test drove one of the three gx over trails they have on the lot. Not hard to get.
Go with the non hybrid if you like keeping them forever
In my 'hood...the mean streets of Plano and The Colony!
