    When I bought my FJ 62 Landcruiser in 1989, all my friends thought I was crazy for spending $19,000. for it! 375,000 miles later, I sold it for 10 grand and bought an FJ Cruiser in 2006 (2007 model year) for $25,700, brand new! My FJ now has 200,000 + miles on it and is still running great. I just ordered a new 1958 LC just 'cos I want it and can afford it. The two of them are gonna clog up my driveway until I find the right soulmate for my FJ...or not....hahahaha! ...dang! ....wish I kept the FJ62....ah well......60+ grand for the new one? As the blues man says, "Tomorrow, who knows? But, tonight, who cares?"....Enjoy life, y'all!

    All the people saying its over priced havent driven this off road. I have the 1958 and have already taken it through hell in the nastiest pockets of az. Its not a crawler but it can get anywhere. Its perfect where it needs to be. The ac set up blows the 4runner away. You can also fit bigger tires than the 4runner. If the 9.5 inch clearance(with 33s) isnt enough for you, get over the fact you cant go 30 mph where you shouldnt.

    I put a deposit on a 1958, black with roof rack. I hear people complain about the finishes. The first Land Cruisers, like broncos were pretty uncomplicated trucks. That’s exactly why we chose the 1958. Back to basics.

    • @AskforBryan
      @AskforBryan  4 місяці тому

      Exactly, it's nice to have a "basic" option rather than a fully loaded vehicle that someone might want to off road.

    Bryan, If given a choice between a 'budget' Land Cruiser, Wrangler, Bronco or Defender, my spare cash would go to the Land Cruiser. Having said that, my Land Cruiser would have to have the two-tone paint. 😁

    The second tier is only 5k more which I think is worth the money. You get a bigger screen and nicer interior. The other alternative is the GX 550 which is 'only' 65k. The dealers out here are selling them for a 10k dealer mark up which is nuts. The land cruiser is now 70k for the middle range!

    Forums are saying that there is a half-cover coming in with the Land Cruisers hitting lots that looks much better for the tow hitch. Also agreed on the tires, they should all come in with proper AT tires, but those predator steps....ugh.

    No MTS or crawl control in the 1958. Mid trim is best value for the additional interior and off road features for ~$6k more.

    Saw this in real life. Looks very cheap and don’t let the name “Land Cruiser” fool you. Cheap hard plastics, cloth seats, PepBoys tires. But oooh the badge says “LandCruiser”! 8 inches of ground clearance is less than a Subaru. It is a 4Runner in different clothes. In a way the 4Runner is much more honest because that is exactly what it is.

      You do realize the LC has more ground clearance than broncos without the 35s. it's ground clearance is pretty standard for a stock SUV. It's almost identical to the previous Land Cruiser, but with better approach and departure angles.

    Stupid tire size. What other vehicle has rear locker and tiny tires? Very incomplete thought on 1958. Botched what was a good concept by not sticking with a designated plan. And no , cheaper is not a well thought out plan. Off road stuff and no thrills is but then tires would be the same and SDM would be there. Get it to together Toyota!!!

    The 1958 exterior looks cheap to me, not sure how much of that is the wheels and how much is the extra plastic, and they cheaped up the interior plastics. Other details like the turn lines on backup camera, that doesn't even save the many money it's just a decontent to push you to upgrade, I feel like the 1958 has a lot of that. Though I actually like that it doesn’t have a power lift gate, I don't know why so many people want that the powered ones are slow and how lazy are you.
    The trim to get IMO is mid tier LC trim at ~$62k with softex. I feel like softex would hold up best over time with my dogs getting in the car wet etc. Looks better than 1958. First edition looks great but is a ripoff for what you get. I would never get anything with the coolbox, such a stupid/gimmicky feature you lose all that storage to satisfy a stereotype of fat Americans who can't be 6 inches away from a 6 pack of coke.
