In my opinion, JJonak is the best Zen in the world and I'm a huge fanboy. I hope you enjoy the breakdown of his play style and can incorporate some of his aggressive tendencies into your own games. -E
Literally my favorite video you've put out to date. Thank you. Can I just say that the icon that the orb of discord creates is a great tool to assist your aim. If you try to just hit the arrow the discord creates, it almost always results in a headshot. This really comes in handy when the enemy team is cluttered and the discorded target is hard to make out, or even when your firing from behind your team and you cant see what your hitting. The discord icon will never lie to you!
i’m late to this but i definitely agree. it’s also basically like a poor man’s infrared, a great tool to track the enemy through the wall. and definitely helps when all of my thick tanks are in front of me and i can’t see a single thing. i use the discord to hit my shots through my team.
13:00 this play is such a 200 iq. This was before the most recent patch, when Transcendence would not protect you from a damage boosted Dragon + Grav combo. So even though the dragon was still there after he killed the Hanzo, the Hanzo is unable to be damageboosted while he is dead. So he is then able to pop Trans and save the team now that he can outheal the damage
In high plat I fought a smurf zen who was flanking the ENTIRE game and killing us all. He was flipping winning 2v1s and some 3v1s he was a legend and it shows how bad plats are
Alot of us know that feeling of being "in the zone" from time to time where you're just seeing the plays and the difference is jonak is always "in the zone". Always
I can guarantee the very last point of this video is true by own experience. I've been studying Jjonak's playstyle too for a while, even unvoluntarily as a recently converted Zen main, and I can guarantee that prefiring with volley does a lot. A LOT. Just get juiced up, activate your inner Einstein and go into games. Read the situation, track ultimates, prefire, improve at aiming. Your Zen gameplay will improve by a lot very soon.
The first time I completed my placements was with Zen. Love the versatility of the character. Hoping to listen and study more about what I can do with him. Thanks for the JJonak breakdown/tutorial vid.
Jayne mentioned when trailing for team canada he said there were some zens with insane assists, healing, and elims from assisting. He then said the reason he chose crimzo and roolf was because you can't just bot as zenyatta, you get the most value by taking calculated risks to burn the opponent rather than bot in the backline. JJonak is the best example of taking the risks to not bot in the backline.
You can be a good Zen without insane mechanical skill you just need to be on top of your orb placement. With harmony orb Zen should always prioritize dive characters, low squishies, and finally if your team is well healed then your frontmost tank. Any time you see a character on your team diving in to the enemy team there should be an orb on them. If someone comes around a corner low health that orb better meet them the moment they turn. Discords should be on the easy targets not some random character in their backline (unless you have a tracer and they're low). Its the little things like that which people underestimate how important the orbs are. They can be the difference makers in fights regardless of whether your projectiles are effective.
You shouldnt have your orb on a tank when your team is all full (down time/ in between fights)... It should be on a dps. You can quickly react and switch orb to your tank when needed but if you keep it on a dps it allows them to create space. For example, if your Tracer has orb she can bully the other Tracer easily. Or you can give it to your Hanzo or Widow so they can take peeks more easily. It makes no sense to have your orb on a tank and not a dps in down time.
Jeff K I think you misunderstand what I'm saying, I'm not talking about down time I'm talking about when your main tank is initializing with the enemy and everyone is full. When everyone is full and your rein is pushing forward and everyone is behind his shield he should have the orb to get every last bit of healing he can. From there you pivot to whoever else needs it. If you have a tracer or genji diving as well obviously it becomes a different situation.
YouCanCallMeReTro I agree. However, as I played Zen I realized DPS tend to leave Rein's sheild and run to the enemy to take care of other DPS so giving them orb is safer option as normally, another healer would stick to the tank.
Hammond I think will actually make Zen more valuable a pick, because his discord alone makes killing Hammond as easy as stepping on an actual hamster because of how quick you can melt him with JUST a discord.
The same way that if hammond just smash the ground on zen its a instant kill... Just played a game with ne who ket doing it, was pretty salty. Hammond counter zen but zen is good to fuck hammond ult
We get it, Jjonak knows how to stand, Jjonak knows hot to play, how to bait and how to flank. But, as you said it, Jjonak can pull this off because his mechanical skills are incredible. We, as normal Zens, can't do this, because we aren't that awesome. I just learned how to be a good Jjonak-level Zenyatta, now I want to know how to be a good normal Zenyatta
What? Are you guys high? Zen is the most mobile hero in the game. Its called Zoomyatta kappa. (But seriously, if Zen had high mobility, he would be broken.) I am a Zen Main, If he was mobile and he could still click heads. ...well, bye bye McCree. He is fine, he has never been...bad at any point I remember since Season 4.
Can you make a video about Reinhardt and how he plays at different ranks. Not many people can tell the difference in game. It's a thankless role unless you pop off.
Love watching his gameplay and his composure as well. Even after the loss in the playoffs he still had a good attitude and you can tell these situations don't really get to him and screw with his head
I’ve never seen a Zen this good and I’ll be damned if I’d one v one this guy any time soon! His aim and that’s the best play I’ve ever seen in the Hollywood defense! That play was beautiful and I don’t think that I’d be able to fight this guy for two seconds even tho I’m going for top 500 in tracer but I got a lot to go if want the gold but I need a lot of practice and I’ll be watching more of his stream when I can!
Oh wow. The tip alone about the sensitivity helped so much, almost immediately. It's weird and will take some getting used to, but my kills and damage definitely went up instantly after changing that.
ive been a zen main since launch, at a point where i was starting to burn out and stop trying, i saw jjonak play and it inspired me to keep improving. It was cool to see how much potential zenyatta really has and it gave me a goal to strive towards
Not only is he is very mechanically sound, he’s just so incredibly intelligent in how he reads his enemies. He makes playing against t500 opposition look like a joke because he’s always ahead of them.
What a beast. I'm new to overwatch... Well I bought it years ago but never really got into it. Love all of the tutorials and breakdowns from you guys. Thank you so much! It's definitely helped me close the gap
As someone who took up Zen as a healer main selection (Mei(DPS) and Zarya(Tank) the others), this video was both entertaining and very helpful for someone attempting to get good with Zen. The emphasis on game sense and positioning, and more importantly seeking value is easily seen with Zen which is what makes him so compelling, and the video really highlights this with Jjonak's play analysis. Interestingly, I found playing Zen and trying to remember the concepts actually directly helped my other mains as well as any character I was playing, the focus you have to have with Zen becomes ingrained in you and becomes habit you will have with other characters contributing to playing them more effectively as well! Not sure it's possible, but it would be really useful to see some kind of analysis of the "footsies" techniques some of these guys use to stay alive, it has to be more than randomly mashing the spacebar and moving left or right.... it seems to also be a key skill but not one anyone seems to really discuss.
He should have a catchphrase called "GG it's Jonak!" If I learned anything, it's that Jjonak is a master of "compartmentalization", the guy does not miss a beat.
A lot of this I picked up through experience, Zen's healing capability is often scoffed at but juggling your orb whilst melting enemies covers for that. It is all about micromanagement, I also like how you point out that aim is only a small percentage of the skill in Zen even though it plays a key part I follow the advice of ignoring weapon accuracy- despite my best friend being a Hanzo main obsessed with his aim. win rates and healing and damage output in fights speaks more to me.
Mr Wiff I didn't see any improvement on my Zen until I started just worrying about orbs and hitting tanks/shields almost exclusively. I still do that whole Ana aim practice thing but I started landing more headshots all of a sudden when I just sorta focused on my orbs. My advice I'd give to a Zen would be to just always have both your orbs going off. Then just fuck around throwing projectiles until you gotta manage your Harmony/Discord.
Tank/support main here who's been dying to play DPS in ranked. Well... I found the strongest in-between just recently (inspired by Jjonak, honestly); Zenyatta is a hero I've only recently started putting any reasonable time into and I'm already falling in love with the play style. Admittedly, I stick to the far backline angles since I don't trust my aim just yet but even from there, I find myself giving the team's DPS a run for gold and silver medals. I'll be referring to this compilation of Jjonak's gameplay to help me master both safe and greedy angles. Thank you so much for this vid, @Your Overwatch :)
LtGoonie when I'm zenyatta and there's a doom I almost always have harmony orb on him, the downsides to doomfist is that he has a big hitbox so it's easy to hit him, and if he has no skills left he can't kill anyone or get out, zen healing is just amazing for that, it's barely enough to make him immortal and with discord the basic slam bangy bang uppercut bang does a maximum dmg of 742.6 dmg with all heads hots no shots missed and full dmg seismic slam (probably impossible without OWL level movement skills and aim bot but it's possible)
That last tip on the volley is dead on. I am currently Bronze 48 and 6 of those levels were basically Zeny. The volley, even if I am not really good at it, is enough to give you silver damage in QPs and AI games. And that’s without even going for headshots. Find the DVa or Rein and let loose at their back, bam! Damage done, mindgame played, and you’ve got a nifty 100 points of damage in.
I really don't understand why people think she doesn't require any skill. I destroy brigitte's as tracer. I wouldn't do that if they were any good... hence, she must require skill, or she's a victim against tracer... the latter being rather unrealistic.
You should have also mentioned that impressive use of sideways dancing when the enemy Zarya chased him. That Zens hitbox is smaller when sideways it's something that isn't usually exploited.
Some time ago I started been another jjonak fanboy, and started playing zen, and this guide gide help me a lot to improve a lots of littles tips that u mentioned, THANKS
When I finally got a large mouse pad months ago, I went down to 1200 dpi, 1.9 sens, down from 3.75. My aim took a very noticeable hit. Despite this, I tried for a while to make it work. Adjusted back up to 4k edpi (800 dpi, 5 sens), and my aim instantly improved. Low sens is great for arm aimers (what I assume Jjonak does), but I am simply not comfortable with that aiming style.
Adonis Group I remember him giving his tracer and reaper hell. I think the way he dealt Tracers and Genjis arguably Zen’s biggest predators was missing from this guide.
May I add something. You notice how he does not charge his right click when he does not have terrain to hide and an enemy on close to mid range. I have noticed how some do not use the right click at all and some use it actually all the time. Know when you can charge and when not
Do you think it is better to wave the crosshair over their head hoping for 1, maybe 2 headshots, or aiming more precisely over their body landing many more hits?
Damn. I think I should study Jjonak's games more. I play very Zen main at dima very similar to him, being very aggressive and looking for that flank damage occasionally, and could learn alot.
I play on console. Been playing overwatch since late 2018. I’ve only just started to regain my “god like zen skills” according to the people I play with (I think I’m a pretty crap zen). and honestly it becomes a lot harder to track characters as zen the higher your sensitivity is the harder it is to control what your aiming at. This goes specifically to those of us on console, playing with your sensitivity as high as it goes is not the way to go. Unless you’re a cheater using a keyboard and mouse on a ps4 (that can get you banned btw). Keep your sensitivity at something that allows for quick turn arounds but doesn’t inhibit your ability for following the enemy, I prefer mine to be around 70-80 depending on the character. Changing reticles helps too, dots are usually spot on for precision characters like zen Ana and widow. When being precise doesn’t come into play like with reaper, leave it as you wish, this can also be on your personal preferences but this is what I use. using these tips my average accuracy went from around 20-10% to 30-45% my aim is still crap but In a matter of hours my aim jumped up to that. all around it made my zen, Orisa, and reaper drastically better. -_- Why am I writing this I could barely get into gold last season, probably shouldn’t listen to me.
I know this vid is a year old but one thing I do with Zen is using the red lock on reticle to make it easier to shoot at the enemies and I use discord to track the enemy movement
Hey Eddie thanks for the great video, very informative! The downside is that now I'm gonna have to deal with all the soon-to-be Zen gods that will go on those suicidal flanks at the worst possible time, not to mention the lack of a benefit of a Mercy pocket JJonak often enjoys. You kinda didn't mention that in many of these clips (including that Rialto flank) he played with Anamo...
Personally, I love Zenyatta as a hero, his fast game style really appeals to me due to how your brain has to move really fast and reasonable to be able to use him. I've also always been pretty good at projectiles and movement (never got hit in dodgeball games), so the fast paced, fast damage but squishy hero makes sense to me, and also, you get to be a helping hand to allies, so that's really cool
I’m pretty good with predicting where my bullets will hit but it gets extremely interrupted when I start panicking by characters like brig getting up all on me
question, what would be the ideal "teir list" of harmony orb targets b4 the fight breaks out? i tend to put it on the other healer (usually mercy) in case they get dove or whatever. of course i will move it around when needed.
thing is that usage of level geometry can be very lag dependent. i know from experience my 100ms ping would never allow me to escape a roadhog hook like that.
I started playing zen when jjonak’s mvp skin came out at 2019. Before that zen would be the last hero I’ll pick simply because of the high skill cap. After 233 hours I now have average 32% wep accuracy and 15% crit accuracy. The only way to aim well is to predict well, period.
my playstyle is already a bit greedy but strategic like his, my aim is one of the things I need to really improve on since I play on console. I feel like I'm a comp gold rank version of JJonak. think of it as a wish version
In the current meta being a zen main is frowned upon, I haven’t been able to find a game that wants a zen. The meta healers are Moira,Baptiste and Mercy. It pains me that I can’t find a good team that supports my zen play style.
In my opinion, JJonak is the best Zen in the world and I'm a huge fanboy. I hope you enjoy the breakdown of his play style and can incorporate some of his aggressive tendencies into your own games. -E
Your Overwatch my phone password is jjonaklove im bigger fanboy fite me on that
As a Zen main I agree with this XD
Get pocketed by mercy damage buff, hope you don't get focused.
Your Overwatch me happy zen main that can flex play .Real talk who think zens need a seed boost.

@1k subs and i’ll post Minecraft in the bio of zen it says everybody that's seen him has never been the same
Unless you repeat a mistake :|
It helps that Zenyatta adds encouraging words whenever you do anything.
"he has a good safe play style" shows jjonak 1 vs 5ing 😂😂
I know this comment is 11 months old but I physically can't not respond lol. I'm pretty sure he says "greedy safe playstyle".
How can you have a greedy safe play style and you 1v5 a esports team
and a pocket medic on his ass...well yea if I had mercy around my ass I might also play more aggresive as zen ;P

Do the best Brigitte player. Because alot of Brigitte are in in masters now that were plat. I need to master her high skill ceiling.
Anime Expert this some filthy bait XD
He has to wait next season, because the best brigg right now is Mickey.
Anime Expert brigette is a low skill character you dont need help learning her 😂
Kadis Namikaze r/woooosh
I really don't understand why people think she doesn't require any skill. I destroy brigitte's as tracer. I wouldn't do that if they were any good... hence, she must require skill, or she's a victim against tracer... the latter being rather unrealistic.
If there is one thing i learned from this, flank when someone gets a kill to remain in the fight or to secure the fight
This video really helped me I always loved JJonak's Zen
When I finally got a large mouse pad months ago, I went down to 1200 dpi, 1.9 sens, down from 3.75. My aim took a very noticeable hit. Despite this, I tried for a while to make it work. Adjusted back up to 4k edpi (800 dpi, 5 sens), and my aim instantly improved. Low sens is great for arm aimers (what I assume Jjonak does), but I am simply not comfortable with that aiming style.
@Your Overwatch, could u make a video to explain the meta after this update and how to win in it? What heroes are good in the meta?
“Trusting his team...” *laughs in bronze*
Ayy what sr?
Zenyatta is STILL my favorite healer. so impactful. the transcendence is ALWAYS great
I prefer Mercy for healing but I use Zenyatta
JJonak is an absolute BEAST! I first started following him when Dafran was talking about him being too good while on stream.
Adonis Group I remember him giving his tracer and reaper hell. I think the way he dealt Tracers and Genjis arguably Zen’s biggest predators was missing from this guide.
nivzb18 I couldn’t agree more. Maybe he will do another guide 2.0 and add that to it.
This was a surprisingly good breakdown. Well done.
1. Have good aim
2. Don't have bad aim
3. Have good teammates
4. Have good situational awareness
You are now a grandmaster Zen.
May I add something. You notice how he does not charge his right click when he does not have terrain to hide and an enemy on close to mid range.
I have noticed how some do not use the right click at all and some use it actually all the time. Know when you can charge and when not
This is what I needed! I've gathered a lot of information from this thanks
Do you think it is better to wave the crosshair over their head hoping for 1, maybe 2 headshots, or aiming more precisely over their body landing many more hits?
i love this video, please make more just like this. these are super interested & really helpful
Zen was always my favorite hero. He’s my most used I’ve been playing him since the game was released. But I still don’t charge shot enough >.
Damn. I think I should study Jjonak's games more. I play very Zen main at dima very similar to him, being very aggressive and looking for that flank damage occasionally, and could learn alot.
My rule: If given the chance, Always Harmony the Tank!!!
The best part about jonak killing the hog at 12:50 is that the hog is NYXL’s analyst and coach WizardHyeong
*clicks off vid*
*goes on jjonak's channel*
*leaves comment*
JJONAK TEACH ME YOUR WAYSSSS
Great guide Eddy. Jjonak provided the skill, you made it easily digestible to a potato aimer like myself
Thanks for the tips really helped! I myself am a Zen main so thanks
Finally a video for a real skll hero...great job
Personally, I love Zenyatta as a hero, his fast game style really appeals to me due to how your brain has to move really fast and reasonable to be able to use him. I've also always been pretty good at projectiles and movement (never got hit in dodgeball games), so the fast paced, fast damage but squishy hero makes sense to me, and also, you get to be a helping hand to allies, so that's really cool
JJonak deserved mvp. I kinda wish the patch didnt come out right before playoffs.
Great stuff, insightful and useful. Keep it up!
I do literally everything there, just on a bit lower level, except for the last one with that flank on the hanzo
12:40 the hog is NYXL coach btw
or is he spam jumping?
which is more effective by the way? or jsut faster?
These clips in the backgroud are so fucking good. He is so fucking good. Oh my god
I’m pretty good with predicting where my bullets will hit but it gets extremely interrupted when I start panicking by characters like brig getting up all on me
Respect my mans, JJonak. Best support player in the game. ⌨️🖱️
This was a very good guide, thanks a lot!
question, what would be the ideal "teir list" of harmony orb targets b4 the fight breaks out? i tend to put it on the other healer (usually mercy) in case they get dove or whatever. of course i will move it around when needed.
amazing analysis, ty for the video!
As a Zen main I appreciate and resonate with seeing him as a god
YUS NEEDED also huge fan guys ✊🏽
Jjonak is a zen God holy shit, probably a better dos than most diamond/master players
I have waited for this.
thing is that usage of level geometry can be very lag dependent. i know from experience my 100ms ping would never allow me to escape a roadhog hook like that.
I started playing zen when jjonak’s mvp skin came out at 2019. Before that zen would be the last hero I’ll pick simply because of the high skill cap. After 233 hours I now have average 32% wep accuracy and 15% crit accuracy. The only way to aim well is to predict well, period.
Oh thank you for making this video I'm a zenyatta main and I'm grateful for this video I just needed some tips thank you
Zens cool, I like that someone’s using him for a more aggressive play style
Damn best vid for a zen guide thx dude
Loving the zen content!
my playstyle is already a bit greedy but strategic like his, my aim is one of the things I need to really improve on since I play on console. I feel like I'm a comp gold rank version of JJonak. think of it as a wish version
Wow, this is some really good analysis
Please analyse carpe or SBB on tracer. This was amazing. Even libero on genji.
This broke down allot of challenges I couldnt articulate 🙌
Really great video would like to see more of these kinds of videos
In the current meta being a zen main is frowned upon, I haven’t been able to find a game that wants a zen. The meta healers are Moira,Baptiste and Mercy. It pains me that I can’t find a good team that supports my zen play style.
