I know people are here thinking, “Hopefully this makes EA change their perspective,” but the likely reality is Ea will think, “DICE messed up, not us - we’re gonna have to shut down another studio.”

Sooner or later you have to acknowledge that it might just be that DICE is crap, yeah? This is the third game in a row that hasn't been well received (though I personally liked BF1 and BF5, they were both panned at launch by the 'fans').

Yup definitely looks like they have initiated the Anthem Protocol. They made the promises to make the game better but slowly the release of said improvements will be delayed indefinitely. Then everyone will forget about it and EA can make the call to cut the game because of "lack of interest". I see this is becoming EA's signature Self-Destruct button.
Its upsetting because the changes/updates they were going to bring to amthem looked fantastic :( i really hope they "fix" bf2042
The difference here is that Anthem was a new IP while Battlefield already had an established fan base. Not much was lost with Anthems failure but with battlefield.. Lets just say EA and Dice will be feeling the repercussions of this major fuck up for years to come.

Im expecting the next Need For Speed to be just as bad as Battlefield 2042. If there even will be one it'll have garbage shit like Battlepasses and paid liveries for cars and will probably remove the community made ones cause they can do a better job than whatever they are offering most likely... and if it fails they will probably axe the series cause of the "Oh, people dont like this anymore, lets make another copy pasted battle royale instead"

There aren’t enough active players to fill 10, 64 vs 64 matches. Less than 10 of those matches happening for the entire planet. That’s insane.
you can actually i have a video were a official large conquest started 10players vs 10players the rest bots.
after 20minutes it could not get all players to fill the game so bots were still majority put it was a official match.
all you need is 5 vs 5 too load up a offical game rest are bots
the bots have been buffed and use aimbots with pixel accuracy sometimes you die a good 1.5 miles away by a bot with a handgun.
These are only steam numbers. Vast majority of say BF4 players were using Origin. But yeah the overall numbers can't be good either.

As a guy that bought the midnight edition I can tell you how it feels:

I bought that ultimate edition... which was roughly 120 USD. Reason I bought it was because at the time I didn't have a PS5. So I essentially bought a PS5 for this game. Tbh, yes, it makes me feel like shit. I'm still holding out hope but fuck EA, Dice, and anyone else associated with creating this Battlefield. They ruined my favorite shooter IP with their bullshit.
I'll tell you how I feel after getting pricey one bc I thought like other battlefields they would add new maps and modes how do I feel? Hatred, apathy and spite. Not going to buy another ea game till I've seen it's good not even new dead space remake expecially after what they did to visceral games

Horrible, Bought the ultimate edition since the trailers had me thinking BF was returning to form like the good old bf3-4 days… I was wrong… I’ve been a fan for the series for awhile and I’m just so disappointed what the game has become and that it’s been so long since it launched and all we have gotten was a single skin pack and a pat on the back saying they are working on it while making so little progress… I hope I’m the end it redeems itself like what happened to BF5 but I doubt it just by how many people have lost Interest

They seem to think live service means you can release less earlier and improve and add on the go. But the opposite is true. Live service needs an extra finished and polished release so you can put all manpower into new content instead of needing 6 month to just fix your game before you add to it. I really wonder what their plan was for the first year of seasons.
Really crazy when you look at the prior games map releases how the content gets fewer and later the more they move towards live service.
Feels like Battlefield could only properly exist if many people buy premium, shelling out all the money in advance, months before the add on comes. Now when they have to earn the people's money with good gameplay, they fail.

This is why live services games(more accurately early access) are cancer. I’m specifically talking about the large cooperations who use early access as a means of shifting risk to the customer. If not enough people bought or are playing the game they can easily pull the plug and screw over those loyal fans who did buy the game and save themselves some money in production(ironically it’s this exact model which is often the root cause of failure for these games). Absolutely despicable business practice if you ask me. Do yourself and every gamer on the planet a favour and DO NOT BUY EARLY ACCESS GAMES FROM MULTIBILLION DOLLAR CORPORATIONS.

BF deviated the formula like 3 times on the whole franchise, at the point what BF2 its closer to MilSim games like SQUAD or PostScriptum than modern BFs since BF3 so this argument its silly

But with BF2042 they just scrapped mechanics of older games and instead tried to make CoD/Apex Legends type hero shooter. The game feels like a huge downgrade in Battlefield evolution and removing such core pillars as classes with dedicated roles in favor of turning players into 'heroes' is what is killing the game.

or what about literally artillery support form games like BF1942/vietnam where every mayor cannon can be used as Artillery where the Scout can mark the position and adjust each shot manually

I don't think the life service model per se is the problem.
The problem is how a majority of these games are being rushed out in an unfinished state with the "excuse" of future updates (that might not come if the game is unsuccessful). If they'd release a finished product with enough content and then add to it over the near future that wouldn't be bad for the consumer. At all. The life service model itself isn't a bad thing. The specific implementation of it often times is.

EA is probably already crunching the numbers to see whats the minimum amount of time and effort they can put into this game to curb class action lawsuits. when the player count is so low, they cant even monetize the game they wanted to. so they'll cut their losses and simply spin it as "players simply dont want tactical class based shooters anymore"
before it gets to that point though, they'll come out with a "we're dedicated to bringing our players the battlefield game they expect and will continue to support this game in the foreseeable future". meanwhile, slowly skeletonizing the amount of people still working on this game until patches completely stop, and support ends in the following year.
everything done is simply to delay and procrastinate until their real customers, the investors, completely forget about this massive failure. they'll then announce a new title with a teaser trailer to hype up their next failure.

Seems like they are trying to kill players' interest intentionaly - EA dont want to waste money on long term support of a dead game.
The best way to win back SOME trust is by abandoning 2042. Then start developing the next title, work close with the community and their feedback until it's ACTUALLY FINISHED. Then give existing 2042 players who bought the game before the abandoning message like 90% discount for the first weeks.
Of course that won't happen. It's still EA we're talking about.
STOP BLAMING EA. ITS DICES FAULT AT THIS POINT. DICE HAS MADE MANY GOOD GAMES UNDER EA AS HAS OTHER STUDIOS. WHEN WILL PEOPLE START PUTTING THE BLAME ON DICE WHERE ITS TRUELY DUE.
Me and my buddies were so excited for this game, planning out our squad, imagining cool new scenarios and shit like that.
But since it launched I haven't even tried it out once
You have to understand how this works.
Like any company, EA has certain metrics to gauge the continued investment in places in products / services. If a product fails by certain thresholds then they cut the support internally and move it elsewhere, and only commit to offer the pre-advertised / confirmed content they sold the ultimate editions on to avoid legal issues, but over any time frame they can get away with.
This means EA DICE has already moved everyone over to their next project and there is probably 10 people max who are actually coding on the game now.
No one cares about this game, least of all EA.

I've been playing Battlefield since BF1942. It's had it's up and downs with the various titles - but regardless how awfully made BF2042 is, it's so sad to see a BF game die so hard, and so quickly.
Imagine the game where you don't even have enough players to fill 10 servers fully.
In the U.K. there is a game reseller called CEX - never seen a ‘AAA’ game be sold at £15 this fast.
Even CoD Vanguard is at £28.
Game is well and truly dea.

Everyone that bought this game deserves a full refund, an apology, and get to keep their copy of the game with full life cycle updates and support from EA and DICE. Battlefield 2042 came out in November of 2021 while Ninjala came out in June of 2020. Ninjala still has over 1000 people playing and recently had a test-run for their new resort area. Ninjala has had multiple updates and has added a ton of content in the time it's been around. A consistent stream of content and a publically available release schedule too! Meanwhile, Battlefield 2042 has had no content updates. Ninjala may have bad MTX but they still care about the players and about making the game fun!

I had been so excited when I saw the first trailers; with the shenanigans afoot and expecially seeing the rendezook, it seemed like that DICE and EA had managed to get a finger onto the pulse of their community, and that whoever made this trailer GOT IT. They got what Battlefield was about.
Undoubtedly, some management-level asshat decided that this was simply nonsense.
Trailers are not games my friend.
Them showcasing that, should've been a clue, to just how F'd up the Game would be.

The ES6 announcement was clearly just damage control to try and fix their PR at least somewhat since they haven't even started working on it yet, and Starfield still not having any gameplay shown despite having a release date makes me lose hope for that game as well.
As a fan of BF hey i'm so happy that this even happened because thats what happens when you dont delay a game EA. Oh and not to mention thats what happens when you change a popular franshise into something unrecognizable that wasn't what fans love about it to begin with.

After spending over 200 hours in Elden Ring in my first playthrough doing all side quests and discovering every bit possible(still haven't finished it yet) my standards for what game to buy have become so high now.

BF2 and BF3 were some of the best battlefield games ever and were both incredible for their time. All EA had to do was remaster those. Or recreate the same game. How did you mess this up SO badly

truth, integrity should matter to consumers and blind consumption is often the bane of once good game devs being complacent so I applaud your wise choice to purchase with integrity in mind. If more people decided to not support bad games or bad services they wouldn't have the profits to say "it dont matter they buy the brand now so we can do whatever we want" the pokemon games are a prime example of how blind consumers ruin any potential for progression and innovation. If ppl didnt buy the brand no matter how Nintendo presents it, they would have to sell polished worthy gaming experiences for 60$ not some sad excuse for code with a pokemon name on it for the sake of it. Companies like gamefreak make more MONEY than anyone else the pokemon company is a unkillable franchise of blind consumption. It is profitable to pray on these type of buyers and they make up the majority of the buyers these days sadly.
What's more sad is that, the faster they end this "live service," the more they profit from the millions of idiots who pre-ordered the game. Who walks away the winners here? Ea who earned hundreds of millions? Or the players who still haven't learned not to pre-order?

I saw this coming as soon as they announced Specialists would be replacing classes. It's obvious they don't actually care about the wants and needs of Battlefield fans but rather they want to bring in that more casual audience.

I think they have a new strategy: make 2042 so bad, that you go back to playing an earlier battlefield. You thought that one was bad too, but it's not as bad? 4D chess move right there. When the next one comes, it'll be so shit that 2042 will feel like a masterpiece.

Lets be honest here, this is Dice and EA and along with every other AAA developer and publisher. They will likely learn next to nothing and try again by slightly different means to pull it all off again. Things like quality or even just working are barely a second thought. To make it all worse, we have seen this happen time and again and still nothing changes, so expect that again.
Tried to play 2042 Sunday night in Australia, waited 5 minutes for a game, nothing happened so played BFV. There was 3 Australian servers up and many South Korean servers if I cant get a spot in the Aussie servers.

Battle passes need to die. Especially the ones that are on "mandatory addiction or miss out" time limits for everyone without a life. Both DICE and 343 are using the excuse of "It's the holidays" or "We need to rest" for their dead-access service. I experienced something similar when an previous-OS app when proprietary and commercial. I had an issue and wrote for support and got no timely response. When I wrote again to complain, I was told "it's the holidays."
The lesson is: Don't CALL yourself a live access anything if you're not prepared to BE a live access anything. Imagine Netflix turning off for a few days in December and when you complain, you're told, "Oh. Sorry, it's Christmas, mate. Gotta wait til January, but keep paying that bill!"

As someone who is a business minded adult and who has families that own businesses I can see through the corporate greed and BS but then again it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. AAA modern gaming with them putting out half baked, half ass and half working so-called products that look to maximize profits while putting in less work then previous installments of the said products.
Gaming Businesses used to care for thier integrity of thier products, it's not that way anymore.

The game failed so hard, I think EA will update the bare minimum and moves on, shows the trailer for the next BF in two years and the crowd will go insane once again and buys an unfinished piece of garbage filled with microtransactions. After Battlefront II, BFV, and 2042, no I don’t think we’ll go crazy again. The marketing for 2042 absolutely nailed our childhoods from BF3/4 which is what the fans were wanting. For the marketing to know *exactly* what we wanted, and the game to be the exact opposite, no matter how good the marketing is for the next one, the old fans that got suckered are done.

DICE asking players for how to improve maps is like BMW releasing a car and asking customers how to put the windows and engine in. Anyone that buys a game from that team of monkeys again needs to have them selves checked out mentally.

Correct if this was any other commercial product you would be able to get money back as its not fit for purpose or as advertised. That's not how it works. If you write something off as a loss It just reduces your taxable income, it's never enough to recoup the losses, you just don't pay taxes on your full profits. Let's say you had $500 in gains and $50 in written off losses, you pay taxes on $450 of your gains. You still lost $50, and you only ended up paying 10% less tax. Since you don't pay taxes at a 100% rate, the reduction in taxes will never cover the full loss. If you mean to say politicians would bail out electronic arts, there's zero need. Their mobile division is still printing money, the sports games are still printing money, there's zero chance of that happening when the company has no risk of going under. Most politicians would also probably see bailing out a publisher over a failure of a violent war themed video game as a very risky move that could end their career.

I wish they’d just go back to supporting battlefront 2. They did a great job turning that ship around and it was finally gaining players again when they dropped it out of no where.
I occasionally jump onto CnCNet and play Red Alert 2 Online, a year 2000 game. Players online is around 600 odd regularlu / consistenly and still gets balance patches from the community. Literaly their 20+y.o. abandonware is as lively and better supported than EA most recent release.
And I'm over here playing hell let loose and having more fun than I have had on any battle field game....
