- Watch Dogs. A series that has gotten some of the most mixed reception in the video game industry. You either like it or you don’t and there’s no in between. From the dark and often depressing tone of Chicago in watch dogs 1, to the bright blue skies of san francisco in Watch Dogs 2, and all the way to the more tech and AI integrated near future of Watch Dogs Legion. There’s quite a lot of secrets throughout these 3 games and that’s what I want to go over in this video. Beneath the surface of it’s gameplay and story, there lies an iceberg of hidden details, references, easter eggs, mysteries and so on.

Set within a fictionalized version of the Chicago metropolitan area in 2013, the first installment in the series follows gray hat hacker and vigilante Aiden Pearce's quest for revenge after the killing of his niece. The game's development began in 2009, with a budget of $68 million. Watch Dogs was derived from a potential sequel from the Driver series which had been in development at Ubisoft Montreal coincident to Driver: San Francisco at Ubisoft Reflections and was released in 2011. Driver: San Francisco did not have a strong commercial performance, leading to the Driver game at Montreal being reworked into one that focused on hacking but still incorporated driving elements. Ubisoft Montreal was Watch Dogs' lead developer, with additional support provided by Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Paris, Ubisoft Quebec, and Ubisoft Bucharest. The game was heavily anticipated following its gameplay reveal at E3 2012, though the final game, which was accused of graphical downgrading, triggered controversy. The game was released for Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in May 2014, and a Wii U version was released in November 2014.

Agreed broo. I love WD1 Chicago. If WD2 took place in an expanded Chicago I wouldn't complain. That's probably a hot take but I've been to the Bay Area plenty of times.

Well, at least Watch Dogs 1 was trying to be ambitious, unique and innovative. Even tho the final build doesn't look like the E3 demos, the complexity of the game is still there. It actually has depth. Every mission you play is filled with details, and all the NPC's are the most organic I've ever seen. Just walking around alone is amazing in this game! This is what makes me play the game over and over again every year! You don't see that kind of effort today! Nowhere near. Today is just pretty graphics and cosmetics.. No wonder gaming feels so boring lately
WD1 is a great game, I've never even tried the DLC for some reason, but that looks really cool as well. And ofc, if you mod WD1 to include some cut content (like with the Living_City mod, it becomes more like how ubisoft originally intended) I honestly never really cared about the graphics downgrade, and I've never used any graphics mods. The game itself is just too enjoyable to care about that.

@@jinxx3744 I'm happy with what I have, but if they put more love and care into it, they have a great game idea. Like instead of playing as anyone, why not just have a recruitment for dedsec numbers, not actual players just supporters. And have like 6 players you can swap between. Like the dedsec cast of part 2 with each having their own expertise?

Hey so I saw a video about someone finding out that watch dogs 4 is in development idk if it's true id say 2% true but I heard that it's going to take place in Boston dark like watch dogs 1 I'll try to find the video.

I genuinely hope Ubisoft will improve the Watch Dogs series. If anything, maybe the 4th game can be a prequel. I was thinking it can take place after the events of WD1 but **RIGHT BEFORE** the events of WD2, basically an origin story. Plus I would like to see how Josh, Sitara, Horatio and Wrench all first met each other and teamed up, and for each of them to have a bit of more backstory

a little note: you do kill Olivier. I haven't played the first game in forever, but one of the side activities you do just straight up kill him.
It turns out that the E3 demo graphics were available in the full game as it was stated by an odd header video that the upgraded graphics were "switched off" and can actually be used in the PC version. He theorised that it could be because the consoles couldn't handle the higher graphics so they agreed to downgrade across all platforms instead (or were bribed by PS and Xbox not to make their hardware look shot compared to PC)
This is false, there are unused presets but using them does not equal to restoring the original demo graphics
@@HeySlickThatsMe still upgrades the game though, bit weird they chose to downgrade presets when it ran smoothly regardless. My comment is purely speculative and there's still reason to believe it could've been the case, just more improbable.
@@johannjones2011 Upgrades is debatable, it's all up to preference and taste, the "E3" bloom that's in files is broken due to different shaders yet a lot of these mods use it

I quite liked watch dogs as a series, and while I disliked legion, I still liked the general idea of a hacking version of gta. Hacking in general has always been a massive fascination of mine, so it’s nice to finally see watch dogs getting some flowers, regardless of Ubisoft’s occasional scummy practices.
Thank you for your hard work on making this video. It brought back fond memories of late nights playing this series.

I Believe that the ship is a reference to the late
Edmund Fitzgerald, as it was a popular Great Lakes ship, and Chicago is on Lake Michigan.
The only watch_dogs game that didn't bore me to tears was the first one... they really messed-up when they decided to leave that story, tone and passion behind.
They did the same with saints row after saints row 2. Went from a gangster "the wire" type game with 1 and 2 to anime, clones and zombies in 3 then aliens with 4, then they went to actual hell, then a white people hipster simulator with the reboot. Idk why these devs insist on changing what makes the originals so good, ubisoft did it with 2 making it hipster ish talking bout going green and recycling then a god awful impersonation of the UK with legion. I hope it gets a semi reboot that does acknowledge 1 and 2 just not legion and all the futuristic stuff.

I’m not sure if you have a video touching this already but I would like to see the connections between assassins creed and watch dogs. I have a theory the characters in watchdogs are the modern day hidden ones and the modern day templars

Ubisoft did release Watch Dogs with nerfed graphics in order to make the console ones look good. It has very often been like this, game companies catering more to the console market and purposefully nerfing the PC graphics in order not to make the consoles look bad.

I maintain that Dedsec is the tech focused arm of, or a common contractor for, the modern day assassins.
WD1 is one of my most favourite games of all time, it's something i always return to, i like the kinda Need for Speed: Wanted/Burnout Revenge part of police chases where you can take out the cars in a "less lethal" way, the gun takedowns are great, and I've discovered a lot of music from it too, even indirectly because of UA-cam recommendations and Spotify radio 😂
Aiden and T-Bone are really cool characters, and the game has some quite nice minigames and side missions, it gives a Batman with guns feel imo, it was just sadly overshadowed by a few games.
TLDR: “Leaked” Ubisoft space game from Ubistolen mission ended up getting cancelled and reworked into Rainbow Six Extraction
Hey, for anyone wondering what that “leaked” Ubisoft space game ended up being, all fingers point to the original concept, codenamed “Pioneer” getting scrapped and somehow being reworked into Rainbow Six Extraction. Although we never got the original game, Alex Hutchinson, (known for work on Sims 2, Spore, Assassins Creed 3, Far Cry 4) creative director of “Pioneer”, left EA after they canned it and went on to create Journey to the Savage Planet at Typhoon Studios (now defunct and reborn as Racoon Logic). Now this hasn’t been said anywhere from what I’ve seen, but I find it a bit too coincidental that right after he leaves EA because he can’t do the space exploration game he wants to, he starts a new company and makes a game about exploration on an alien planet. In my eyes, Journey to the Savage Planet is a spiritual successor to that game and if you played that and enjoyed it, they are working on a second one right now. Sorry for blabbering so much, I was just REALLY interested in this specific topic and needed somewhere to share the info I found

I’d love a watch dogs game set straight after wd1 a true sequel to 1 and explaining what happened to the deadsec Chicago after being denied access to CTOS at the end of the maybe moving to a different state as well with them trying to rebuild

In the "real life hacks" there was a interview posted online saying that in the production of the original WD, that they asked a representive of Kapersky anti virus that if their hacks are plausible to happen.
I think you also could've added Rami Malek playing WD2 as some sort of promotion for Mr. Robot or something like that (don't remember the details)

I'm so grateful that you made an iceberg for Watchdogs, 1 of my all time favourite franchises. Wd1 was just the best for the time it came out despite the downgrades the game held up really well imo, ubisoft bit off more than they could chew imo because yes they may have had this vision but a lot of companies do and then deliver a less detailed final product although the franchise is still very detailed. I really hope there is more for the future and that legion hasn't drawn the line because I think Ubisoft can learn from mistakes rather than just erase them.

I think I played more of the mode where you hide from the camera heads and restore power to the city more than the actual game of wd1. Going into indie development a game based on that is a goal of mine.

theres 1 more easter egg you forgot during the mission big brother if you enter jackson's room you will see what looks to be a rabit robot toy but it has alot more to it because if yall dont know ubisoft used to have a tv show or cartoon tbh called rabbids and the rabit toy in jackson's room is 1 of the rabbids.

Kinda grew up on two compared to the generic mundane atmosphere of one but I can see the reason why for the drastic change from one to two while three doing a poor attempt of combining both. One wasn’t even doing well at the start considering the controversy with the downgraded graphics and the open world activities being terrible and repetitive before the dlcs. Two kinda fixed that while focusing on the social aspects of media and society aswell as a weird but fun story

I have currently been playing Watch Dogs 1, and I must admit, I was a bit too harsh on the game, I am having a lot of fun with the game. But I will always stick with the driving being the worst I have ever seen. Other than that, it felt disappointing from the hype it created, but the game is very fun to play, and very creative in its hacking mechanic
I didn't know child of light was a ubisoft thing. They should def include child of light characters if they ever make more seasons of captain lazerhawk

I think the Scotland leaving the UK in legon is a reffercance to how the game is set in a post brexit UK and there was a lot of talk about Scotland doing a second referendum on leaving the UK if brexit went through

I liked WD1 and loved WD2, but damn, Legion is the most boring slop I ever wasted hard drive space on. And I reinstalled it like 3 times just to give it another try

Watchdogs 1 was fun and cool.
Watchdogs 2 was fun and GTA feeling but kinda overwhelming at times.
Watchdogs Legion was ok, not great but ok, the dlc where you play as aiden/wrench feels what the game should have been, making the protagonist a faceless entity was dumb

Cause just like any game. It was made on the pc first with all the new hotness of graphics cards and so on.
When ported to the consoles obviously everything was toned down because the consoles were built to play almost everything without it being ultra high graphics and so on.
But the consoles aren't built to play the game like a pc would.
An obviously some creative decisions were made when it came to hacking and so on.
Most perfer the single button press over the complex menu. Cause hard to drive and go through a menu at the same time. Easier to drive and press one button as you go across the obstacles.
