I dont know the first thing about playing guitar, but watched this entire video, enjoying the shit out of that sound.
Haha hell yeah! I'm not mad at that!🎸
Ever since I heard "Six" off of Resurrection I started writing solos or passages like this. Of course this led me to Nile aswell
Nice!
NILE . 🤘🤘
I love Middle Eastern and Gypsy style scales and melodies.
i love that man :D i get goosebumps everytime i hear that oriental stuff 🤩seriously.. god bless the guy who invented the delay fx..
That minor 2md to major 3rd interval is super exotic sounding.. I love phrygian dominant for that very interval combination
Phyrgian dominant for life. My band Sacrificial Burial uses this sort of stuff a lot!
Nice!
That the scale too. I was trying to play the 2nd position as the 1st and my brain was like no it doesn't sound right ..then I pulled that the Phrygian Dominant scales out and as soon as i played the 2nd where its just 2 notes on i believe the A or D i went that's it. Scales can be fun to learn
Just remember the original way to play them ..lol
By far my favorite guitarist. Love the content. Thanks Rob
👊
The game powerslave got me writing riffs like that for days as a kid
There’s something so immersive and mysterious about hitting those notes
A player don’t pull the ‘blues’ face or pull the ‘O-note’ look. It’s an alien look that portrays an alien sound
It can be done to death so easily if you’re going for that isolating intimidating feel in metal…because it really captures that mood PERFECTLY
Edge of Sanity passage of time is a really good example for some Egyptian sounding riffs
I remember randomly finding and playing this interval by myself and immediately thinking of ancient Egypt lol.
Holy shimmer on that reverb lol. Great lesson Rob, thanks!
🤘😎
Soulfly called, Max would like his sound back! LOL. Great one Rob! I love the exotic scales implemented in Metal. It all began with the Chaos and Roots of Sepultura that really brought it all together. Andreas Kisser and Max Cavalera are amazing at what they do! Great vid Rob! I'll bare this in mind for Tribal/Exotic stuff in my songwriting.
I just listened to the Arise album last night! Soooooooo frickin good, and it reminded me just HOW influenced we (Chimaira) were by the mighty Sepultura!
Great tips Rob. What I really appreciate from you is your humbleness. Love how ya teach from a very basic approach.
Hey thanks man, that means a lot! 👊
When others seem to want to talk a higher language to make themselves sound brainy, people using a basic approach opens the lessons to anyone of any skill level. Rob genuinely wants to help everyone, and every video he uploads is a testament to that. We know he’s good, he doesn’t have to prove it to us anymore. 😎👌
Aye brother! 🙏@@xsnys13
So nice sound the egyptian arabic sound.... make a heavy song with insane solo rob !!!!!
dune vibes i love it
Btw, that's not Yngwie's favorite scale at all (he's much more into harmonic minor stuff and plays almost exclusively minor scales) but I first heard it as a kid when listening to Uli Jon Roth ("Sails of Charon"'s intro solo is a good showcase of this incredible scale) and Ritchie Blackmore who made extensive use of it throughout his Rainbow days ("Stargazer" lead parts, for instance.... really mind blowing).
One of my favorite songs is “Cleansation” because of the solo in it. The Victorian power/octave chords followed by the quick ascend at the end of the solo is killer every time! Nice video Rob!
Awesome man!🤘
Ritchie blackmore stargazer, just sounds like it 😂
That's Phrygian dominant, which is the fifth mode of the harmonic minor scale and.... but you're right, nobody gives a shit about theory and the magic of this scale/mode/whatever stems from the fact you have a major third (so that's a major scale in fact, even if it doesn't really sound like it) which is supposed to sound bright/positive mixed with a minor second (half step interval) which is the most dissonant and disturbing interval available in music (that's the "Jaws" theme !). I like your shimmer sound in this video 🙂
Thanks man! It's the Spaceverb effect on the STL Amphub.
Here again to auto-like the video and watch it. Thanks a million, you're a humble idol for us all
👊
I have that guitar 😍
Love this trick, been using it for a few years, those melodies always put me in a good mood
I like all of your vides but watching this particular guitar in a thumbnail itself makes me love the video already :D
I'll take it!🤘
Thank you for this! So simple yet so effective.
You're the guy I've learned this scale from when you did the Rock House DVD years back, and it's cool to see that you feel out the notes in order to figure out what notes fit, similar to how I do it nowadays. Thank you Rob for doing a video on this, awesome work
Cheers bro!🤘
Amazing as always, Rob! 👊🏻 You should check out Lost in the Static by After the Burial.
🤘
Cool 😁
Love this one Rob! I’m middle eastern and I’ve been trying to incorporate this sound into my playing as well. Fun video. Great walkthrough as well!
Thanks dude!🎸
this is me when trying to make a 80's solo, it just turns in to this lol
Me to not gonna lie
The space between 4 notes chromatic is awesome..Alot of that in Harmonic Minor. Made some cool riffs like that.
And as Always Rob is Master Class
Dude what! Just discovered your channel - huge fan of Chimaira and always looked up to you as a guitar player. Also, good man for doing the video on the H-307, my first 7 string!! Definitely keeping up with your channel.
Awesome man! 👊 Welcome aboard! Lots more in store! And cheers to the classic H-307!🎸
Check out a song called Pharotek by Frank klepacki. Not exactly metal, but it's got a beautiful Egyptian feel to it.
Thanks again, Uncle Rob.
I wasn't able to find it.
Here you go. It wasn't under Frank Kelpacki's name for some reason but he wrote the song.

Enjoy, Uncle Rob.@@RobArnoldWorld

Refreshing approach, Roberto.
Many of my favourite artists, including yourself, have this philosophy. Devin Townsend says that its liberating when you dont know exactly what is "correct", as youre no longer bound by its technical restrictions.
Right on!👊🎸
Love this video Rob. You can never stop learning right. Definitely heard a little bit of the Chimaira influence in there layering and building solo pockets. Keep killing it man. All the best!
Right on brother!👊
Gives me some Nile vibes
Rob, your channel is quickly becoming one of my faves. I've played guitar a long time and just started getting back into metal. Specifically metalcore and Djenty stuff. I gotta admit I've yet to hear the band you became famous in Chaimara? But I'm gonna check them out now.
Keep up the great work. Oh, more songwriting videos would be awesome. Thanks🤘🏻
Edit: just checked out an older track by Chimaira. Resurrection. Fucking great.
Hey awesome man, and welcome aboard! Glad you're heading down the Chimaira rabbit hole! May I suggest this one next? ua-cam.com/video/Et9UxMsuPig/v-deo.htmlsi=oTA2F18DK29SAEVd
It's got a cool part based around the theme of THIS video! (🎸Cool soloing trick for that Egyptian/Arabic sound!)
Melechesh ..Ashmedi the king of Egyptian guitar
Yes! Not enough people know about Melechesh...fucking great band
Nice!
Cheers Rob!
🍻
I stumbled upon this many years ago myself and great teaching vid like always! \m/
🤘
Love this video and always loved this about your playing. Thank you brother.
👊
Thanks for the ideas Rob!!
Hey my pleasure!
It’s referred to as Phrygian domaint
magnifique😮🤘....!
🤘
Chills thrills and incredible heavy feels! I like listening and learning on how we all learn to make sound and music
🤘🥃 M72
Awesome! There are definitely some exotic sequences in your music (the best examples that come to minds are the first lead break in Nothing Remains and the main riff melody in Six but also some stuff in that underrated gem of The Disaster's Healing Process, especially in That Way if my memory serves me well) and it's a cool trick to make lead parts sound a bit less predictable! 😉 I'll surely learn a thing or two from this video! Thanks man, as always top content! 👊🏻 Cheers and happy new year! 🤘🏻
Ahh right on Jules! And I LOVE that you're such a fan of the Disaster record! 👊🙌
I never got into Chimaira because I never liked nu metal, but this dude is pretty cool and a good guitarist.
Make sure you check out our sophomore release, The Impossibility Of Reason, where we shed any resemblance of Nu Metal, and came out swinging!
@RobArnoldWorld
I listened to some of your self-titled album and liked it, especially the solos and some of the riffs 🤘🏼
Nice!🤘@@dmitryowens
This is awesome, can anyone educate me on what scales this is on. Mixolydian or Phrygian.?
I honestly don't know, but another guy commented saying it was Phrygian. 🎸
Phrygian Dominant.
The "Traditional" Phrygian has a minor third (1- b2 - b3 - 4 - 5- b6 - b7) instead of a major third in the Phrygian Dominant (1 - b2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - b6 - b7). Rob is demonstrating the 1 - b2 - 3 - 4 degrees specifically in this video, and meanders to the other degrees here and there.
--> Letter "b" means "flat", i.e. b3 = flat third.
Damn Rob Arnold you need a guest appearance on a Nile track🤘 sounds awesome brother
Give em' my number!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld that would be epic I love Nile almost as much as chimaira
I hate to ask this question, but is there any hope for Chimaira returning? It's one of my all time favorite bands and it would be super sick to see you guys come back!
🤘🏼🤘🏼
This is very nice and I really like what your doing here Rob. The only other guitar player do this is Steve Vai. I like the sound of Spanish guitar playing.
Thanks Darren! Yeah man, it's a great sound! I love Spanish style guitar playing too.
Have you ever listened to Nile? They're Egyptian themed death metal.
I need to revisit them! Haven't heard them since the 90's!@@Jupiter2ignite
@@RobArnoldWorld yes you do! Pretty much any album will do. In their darkened shrines and Amongst the Catacombs are probably my favorite but the newer Those whom the gods to test is pretty damn good. That album is from around 2010.
Rob, the guitar in the link in the description has different inlays than the one you're playing in the video here, is yours not the production model or what's up with that
Wow you're right! Well spotted! Good thing is, they're only slightly different! Mine is a typical production model, but perhaps over the years they make slight design modifications? I'm not sure!
Home by Dream Theater is a good example this too.
my touch of autism makes me see the fretboard as patterns on graph paper. you are horsing around in a harmonic minor scale. the run up the whole neck is a cool pattern up the whole neck moving up one fret as you move up each string. like on low E : 3,4,6. then on A: 4,6,7. D, 6,7,9., G 7,9,10.you have to make a bigger jump when you hit the b string: 9,10, 12, hi E: 10,12,13. then you can run a parallel pattern inverted either above or below that one, so that you can now move vertically or horizontally , not just diagonally. hella jam pattern.
To my ears it’s basically the basis for a lot of the song “Six” that song totally changed how I played guitar. Where did the name six come from for that track?
Nice! I tell the full story of SIX in this video! 👉 ua-cam.com/video/NGLPFlC4RAY/v-deo.html
Hey man. Awesome lesson.
If you don't mind, what is your signal chain here?
Sure! ESP LTD M-1000HT ---> Apollo Quad interface ---> STL Amphub Tonality (w/spaceverb FX) ---> CLA Unplugged ---> YOU🫵😝
Hey Rob was looking at maybe getting your bundle pack or joining your pateron is everything down tuned?
Hey man! Awesome! Everything in the jam bundles is in drop C. Is that alright? Were you looking for something different? Lemme know!
I typically play in standard but could drop one of my guitars down to c is that drop c like sabbath and Pantera?
Well, I'm not sure that either Sabbath or Pantera ever played in drop C, but I could be wrong! If you've got a minute, check out the video I've made on drop tuning! It's really a fun tuning to play in! ua-cam.com/video/Px3hJZVM8D4/v-deo.html@@donaldlaporte4227
Hey Rob don't want to be a pain in the ass but can you share your string gauge I'm thinking about tuning my les paul or one of my sg's down to c so I can follow along on your pateron..
Thanks Rob
Dude, when I started the video, a gust of wind kicked up some sand, I started to feel tired like I've been walking for miles, and out of nowhere, a camel pulled up next to me.
Haha! Don't fall into that mirage bro! 🐪🤘
Hey Rob, im going around looking at all your guitar info videos. Is this guitar an LTD M-1000HT? And how do you think it compares to the LTD JM-2? They seem so close in specs with little differences making them unique but in the same exact price point and both I believe are made in Korea.
Yes! It's an M-1000HT. Here's my FULL video on the guitar! ua-cam.com/video/A0862Tmekmk/v-deo.html
I can't say how it compares to the JM-2, as I've never tried one, but I guarantee you can't go wrong with either! The JM-2 also looks amazing!
My M-1000HT was made in Indonesia. And to each their own of course, but to me, country of origin means nothing!
Great answer man, I just discovered the JM-2 I was playing with was made in Indonesia as well. Was a little bummed out at first but glad to hear it doesn't matter in your opinion as it felt like the best guitar I've played yet and sound too. Just hard to swallow paying that kinda money when its from a 3rd world country lol. @@RobArnoldWorld
Bro, is it a coincidence I mentioned the LTD JM-2 and Josh Middleton makes a video covering your song? ua-cam.com/video/POzWEvAzqHw/v-deo.html@@RobArnoldWorld
Hey if it feels good and rips, then that's all that matters, right?! @@enacku
What effect are you using? That sounds awesome!
Thanks bro! STL Amphub. There's an effect called Spaceverb! Super fun to play with.
@@RobArnoldWorld that’s so cool! I just downloaded amphub yesterday! I’m going to go mess around with it.
Nice! @@IndependenceGuitar
Hey Rob, the guitar looks absolutely badass! What model is it if I may ask? Thanks! 🤘🏻
I'm in love with Harmonic Minor/Phrygian Major as well - Yngwie likes to use it almost excessively ;-)
Yeah dude I love it! It's my LTD M-1000HT. You can watch my unboxing video here! ua-cam.com/video/A0862Tmekmk/v-deo.html

Always loved that style dude 🤘💀🤘
Check out djent band Shades of Black if anyone's interested...very good instrumental stuff
Thank you Rob now I have the tools to rival Nile 👀
🤘😎
Dude you ever try out a caparison guitar?
Never have!
Heeeeey I got the same guitar 😂
👊😎🎸
Yeah i hear you on nope that note don't sound right and then I get the note good . My Friend that bought me a Fender Squire acoustic..Says i put on a whole show while she plays Conker's Bad Fur Day . Then i try to play along with the music..
My handle is relevant here. Had to leave a comment! 😂
Ahh nice one!
Bro!. Love your Eastern sounds in your solos, a d the cool thing was telling the difference between yours and Matt's solos (well one of the things) was your Eastern sound. The one that still stands in my mind is Nothing Remains, pure 💦💦.
Right on!🤘
Petrucci plug-in?
STL Amphub!
sound like phygian or harmonic minor
I would guess that too. Even though I don’t know anything about theory, somehow I can decipher these guesses
Yessir!

SATAN'S WIZARD
Wonder what it sounds like with whammy bar and wah pedal. 🤔 Yes that Egyptian sound sounds cool.
