    Haha, I mentioned the +1 factory brake upgrade when I watched your wheels video. You can get dual piston rear calipers from a Tahoe/Suburban and a thicker rotor from a police Tahoe to factory upgrade the back. That’s what I did on my 2000 SCLB 4x4.

      I had a 2001 and a 2003 Silverado and did love those trucks, but now I'm driving a 2007 Silverado and one thing is that the steering and braking is so much better then the 01 and 03. I had 4x4's so no rack and pinion steering but my 07 does. I put a 185,000 on my 03 and only thing I did was a water pump, brakes, and the part that makes the 4x4 go into 4x4. And when I say brakes it only did the front so not sure how I got that many miles out of the rear. Funny when I bought the 03 it was that new front end and the dealer asked me if I like it, I told them I thought it looked stupid. So they wanted to know why I bought one and I told them that I cannot see the front end from the drivers seat. But I grew to love it and also the front end on the 07. I also really like the new Silverado front ends now that I have seen them in person.

    You can also use the 2019-2020 Silverado rotors and calipers which are 13.5" rotors and 4 piston calipers. The only thing that you would need to do is to use 4 spacers or washers that are around .155" in thickness. These go in between the calipers and the spindles. This will center the calipers on to the rotors. I`m doing this conversion to my 2004 Suburban. The total cost that I have invested in this conversion is $492.89 including the cost for the GM 84847749 ceramic brake pads $107.02. It is also recommended that 18" or bigger wheels and tires are used.

    Great video LT. The truck has already come a long way. Interesting piece of info, I didn't know they upgraded the rotors in 2005. I love upgrades that aren't obvious at first glance. I own a 2015 Ram 1500 Reg Cab Short Box 2WD with the 5.7 Hemi and 8 Speed. I was able to use the electric fan out of a 2012 Ram 1500 with a V6 all I had to do was extend the wiring harness a couple inches. (2009 and up Ram 1500's with the V8 use both a clutch style fan run off the water pump and a small electric fan hidden under the fan shroud). It bolted in and looks factory. No programming required the PCM turns the fan on and off automatically. Although you could change the temps at which the fan comes on and off with a programmer if you wanted to. I've had it in my truck for 4 years now and it works perfectly. Also my truck has electric steering so when you open the hood the only things running off of the belt are the alt, a/c and water pump.

    Also nice choice on the Bilstien shocks. I wanted those for my truck but they were just too pricey for me at the time. I ended up getting KYB Mono Max shocks all around. Got the fronts for $40 (Canadian Dollars) because some guy ordered front shocks for his Ram but the 2009 and up 4WD Rams have Struts in the front where as the 2WD Rams have shocks in the front.

    Quick question. Am I able to upgrade my 2003 1500 5.3 King Cab Long Bed Light Duty 2wd rear calipers, rotors, and pads with another year? Just like you mentioned for the front with a 2005.
    Also, how can I find out what transmission I have, and would it be fairly easy to make the truck 4WD or AWD?

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  3 роки тому +1

      yes, the rear upgrade should be the same as listed here. The most popular upgrade is to use a same year Suburban rear caliper and rotor, its a two piston and uses a thicker rotor, but will still fit inside 16" wheels. And this was a 4l80 transmission I swapped in, and if you wanted to make this truck 4wd or awd, it would be best to grab a 4wd frame from the junkyard and swap everything over.

      As far as AWD/4WD sounds like that's a lot more work than it's probably worth.. lol.

      I made another video on the wiring you should check out, but there was a harness needed to convert the plugs and add a second vehicle speed sensor to the computer

    Before I did both the front n rear big brake upgrade, the rear brake was binding n locking up, I did a full repair on the piston n calipers on the dual rear calipers but it is still binding n locking up still. Could it b my master cylinder? all 4 brake lines breed fluid fine, change all 4 flex hose too. When I got the truck, the brake fluid was all green n contaminated too, new fluid in there but could it b the seals in the master cylinder gone bad to not hold pressure? Brake pedal is firm when the truck is off but when u turn the truck on the brake pedal sinks down to the floor. So my guest next is to get a new master cylinder c if that is the problem. Truck is daily driving only, would u say stick to the Vacuum Booster system n not upgrade to the Hydro Booster system cux I don't really want to spend extra money the new system.

    LT,
    What would say ALL the Moog front suspension parts and steering rack cost when all said and done?

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  3 роки тому +2

      I'd have to sit down and find all the recipepts and stuff, but probably about $600 to $800 for everything including wheel bearings, brakes, suspension, rack and pinion

      Thanks LT.
      Even at the $800 mark that was a good deal for Moog and all the rest.
      Where did you get the rebuilt steering rack and brand?

      the garage in this video (I have since moved) was 22x32 and I certainly don't have the selection of tools we had at Truck Tech... My box is mostly filled with Husky, Craftsman, and some some Kobalt

    I have 2001 Silverado looking into doing the brake upgrade. Is the bigger brakes from 2005 Silverado's or can use tahoes, or any other newer platforms

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  4 роки тому +2

      I know the tahoes have different sized back brakes than the silverados, but the parts I used were from a 2005+ Silverado 1500

      For Tahoe’s it’s 07 or newer. You can also opt to go with upgraded PPV Tahoe calipers

      Yep. Just gotta have everything you listed: calipers, brackets, rotors, and I think the flex lines might be a tad different.
