Long time Mercedes customer. My first was a 1980 300 Turbo Diesel that had over 300,000k on the odometer. On my second Mercedes and I can say without hesitation they are durable and beautifully made. I hesitate to purchase another b/c my mechanic said anything later than 2015 isn't as reliable. While I realize today's customer wants more connectivity, I'm sad to see so much software and gadgets, the more stuff, the higher likelihood of software problems. The beauty of the original Mercedes was in it's simplicity and functionality.
Actually, thats not right. Mercedes always had pretty complex vehicles with, for their time, pretty advanced systems. Who looks for simplicity shouldnt look for Mercedes, because Mercedes always stood for technological advancement and tried to bouilt new systems into their vehicles. Thats why their cars are pretty expensive in comparison.
@@hazard4648 Simplicity doesn't mean I was implying Mercedes lacked technological advancements, there's a difference. The cost is in the quality of materials and design. I've had a few Mercedes and loved every one of them for durability, safety, ease and enjoyment of driving.
How many times have you heard from car guys say that the old cars were easier to work on? Why do you think that's the case?
Ever since they've become more 'connected with IT interfaces, those are the most likely items to have problems. I have several friends who specialize in sports cars, including mechanics (Porsche, Ferrari, and Mercedes/Maybach)- almost without exception, the majority of them say "the more complex the car, the more complex the problems."
@@RockeyToes No, there is actually no difference. Of course old cars were easier to work on. They lacked navigation systems, automatic lights, at some point even ABS, ESC and automatic climate control. And of course the less systems are on a car the less problems can be caused. A Douglas DC-3 is easier to maintain than a Airbus A320.
Still, saying Mercedes would have been known for simple systems is wrong. From all the systems above, Mercedes was one of the first to implement them. So they were always more complex than most of their competitors of that time.
If we want a car that has the least probability of failure we need to remove every single system, that is not necesary. Then we are technological-wise we are back to the 30ies. And of course nobody wants back to a car without automatic climate control, ABS or a navigation system.
And no, the costs arent just caused by "material" or "Design". A huge part of the costs are development and implementation costs of all the additional technical systems Mercedes has implemented in their cars. Technological advancement does not come without additional costs.

Given what my friends (Porsche and Mercedes mechanics with specialized training and decades of experience) have mentioned, I'm more inclined to believe their input.
@@RockeyToes You can believe what you like. All I did is stated the facts, which are by the way very easily verifiable. Wether accept them or believe in anecdotes from freinds, who know 2 brands out of hundreds is up to you.
Besides as an engineer I can tell you that mechanics specialized in one or two brands are not in a position to judge about the technology implemented in the whole market. There is a lot more than Porsche and Mercedes.

I would deleted the suspension replacing it with air bags to lower the car. Add bigger wheels plus quad exhaust. Add a rear wing and front splitter. Then make the whole car white, grill, mirrors, etc.

I hope that Mercedes-Benz, if they want to sell electric cars, will invest in the development of solid-state batteries to ensure a significantly better range of 800 km per charge and significantly shorter charging times. Additionally, I hope Mercedes will develop diesel and gasoline engines in combination with mild hybrid technology, as Toyota has been leading the way. Come on, Mercedes, you German marvel!
1830 L is not highest, I think for e.g. last gen Skoda Superb had 1950 L this gen is most likely bigger.
