I was able to tour this factory back in late 1997 passing through Frankfurt... Even then the factory used robots and I remember being stunned by all the automation watching E-Class vehicles being built...My favorite part of the factory, different from the machine in this video, is where entire dashes were carried by machine through the windshield opening at which point the dash was turned & inverted into place and arms came out to attach all remaining connections. Once completed in about 20 seconds, the robotic machine would come back out of the windshield opening without touching any part of the opening painted frame...It was too unbelievable to not watch. My dad & I were transfixed watching several vehicles having their dash installed until I finally had to suggest we move on...
My E350 flawless for 10 years. Every day it drove like it just left the showroom. I was in Detroit for 25 years and marveled at the nuances and perfection achieve. Just got a CLE450 Cabrio, a baby E rocketship!!

Until Mercedes starts engineering their entire vehicles for longevity and reliability instead of what seems like inbuilt issues I’m not buying another Benz I’ve had three and all have had issues they should never experienced if Lexus can get their luxury vehicle running trouble free for years and years then Mercedes with over 130 years of engineering experience needs to do much better especially for the premium price their asking because it’s no longer a premium ownership experience it’s a troublesome over engineered convoluted expensive nightmare to repair once it’s out of warranty Not Good Enough and BMW, Audi and Volkswagen your all just as bad.
Look at this video and then watch how American cars are built. The quality is not even comparable. When I see overweight union members slapping together parts it scares the crap out of me. The precise engineering of the German brands is why they cost more and are better vehicles. Looking at the lasers checking tolerances compared to some dude slamming a part and not checking anything. Shocking the quality difference.
