@@xcarter_carsx2848 in those purchases he always argued that those cars will keep their value or even increase it (which turned out to be true), while he always said a daily driver (relatively new, no collectible) would decrease in value very quickly which is why he would buy nothing that costs more than 50k or something like that (watch his kia stinger video :-).

You record your videos from your phone, you don't have employees, and you try to live a some what modest life. You obviously have money, but you don't over extend yourself. Get a cover for the back seats that you can use when the dog is riding. It’ll help a lot with keeping the interior clean. And it looks like a fine choice for a daily driver.
The Kia Stinger should count. It was there, and I loved it. But I don't usually consider it because it wasn't really a planned purchase -- I was intending to launch Cars & Bids by selling my E63 AMG Wagon and immediately buy my new Defender, but COVID delays pushed the new Defender arrival by six months -- so I needed a temporary solution, which became the Stinger.

The comment about being a good salesperson is the truest thing I've heard today. Literally just be responsive to customers if they ask for information or if they want you to notify them when what they're looking for comes in. I went to numerous dealerships when I was shopping for a car a few months ago and I asked them to keep me posted but I never heard back from them at all. I don't know if they didn't think I was serious about buying a car, but the one dealership that I actually felt valued at where they took me seriously and accommodated my needs was the one I gave my money to.
This is why I love this channel, the weird different cars are awesome. I can only take so much supercars of the same. Love the content can't wait for the 100s of videos this year. I met you back along time ago when you drive the Aston Martin across the country. I live in Maine and didn't know who you were at that point.
As an engineer at Mercedes myself I personally LOVE this vehicle, and agree 100% with Doug for getting one. This is one of my top 3 cars that we produce right now, and I take every opportunity to drive one I get. The third row is awkward and awesome. The drive train is fast, but not AMG fast. The ride is smooth and not compromised as the AMG as a daily driver. GREAT PICK Mr. DeMuro!
@@ddjohnson9717 when going on test drives I do prefer riding in the S class over anything else, I prefer the experience of driving the E63s sedan and SL much more.
Is the quality of mercedes benz improving as well compared to previous generations? As a w126 w140 era mercedes enthusiast they had in the early 2000s gone backwards for a while, whats it like latley?
Today I went to the dealership to look at (yes) a white one they advertise, a 2021. It wasn't there, an employee had taken it home :) The black on there (smaller engine than Doug's) was nice enough. Love the width of the cargo space. Sadly, I need the driver deat in the max aft position, and then no person can sit behind me. In smaller cars the seat doesn't go back, but it accompdates the hunched up position better than in the E, it seems. Not sure I love that. Should have measured brom back of front seat to back rest of back seat to compare with other cars. I want an estate to throw whole (XL) montainbikes in AND be passable for business travel. Love the idea of good lane and distance keeping, espcially for long drives. Even Tesla seems a bit of a pain for that nowawys the way they handled it.
I agree for sure this one is my top coolest Mercedes Benz many of the new ones aren’t my cup of tea. Maybe the elb and elb because I like small boxy cars with 4 bangers. But wow what a power output on this 6 cyl

I still miss sitting there playing with my Han Solo blaster and watching drivers waving and "finger" shooting back! We drove Opel Kadett Caravan. No rear seats but me and the girl from my class I hearted got to ride in the back there. Rare nice childhood memories. If I ever find a NOS Kadett, it's probably an utter shitbox, but that's how things go.

Glad you had a good experience at Jackie Cooper in my hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I've never purchased a car from them, but I had Infinitis (they sell Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Infiniti and Nissan) for 18 years and used them for service, and always had great experiences.

Now onto the daily categories & features, and the DougScore is full of all the latest tech, but it misses out on self-driving features. Still, it gets a 9 out of 10. Doug's the kind of guy to call a $65,000 car "normal" and "boring." Also, I find it hilarious that Doug has waffled back and forth between those two vehicles having his third of each; while I have never owned the same make/model twice. (And in 13 vehicles, I've only even owned the same *BRAND* twice - 3 Fords, 2 Subarus.) Although my 18 year old kid is currently on his third Subaru.
Two of the 5 vehicles I've owned didn't last long enough to buy them again. They were a 1997 Ford Contour and a 2013 Dodge Dart. I loved driving both of those cars, but they weren't necessarily great to own. The Dart wasn't too bad, just normal wear-and-tear type maintenance, with the worst issue being having to replace the right front control arm. Which I was able to do myself in my driveway. That is, until the dual-clutch transmission spontaneously failed, which mechanically totaled it. The Contour always had something going wrong with it, the transmission being the last straw. I don't mind wrenching every day, I just don't like being forced to. To make matters worse, my mother-in-law owned a Mercury Mystique at the same time (same car, uglier color palette, like hers in Harvest Gold). I swear, I was always replacing something in those cars.
65 grand for a car is unfortunately "not even expensive" anymore. I was looking for a BRZ two months ago and used ones (even from 2013, first gen ffs) used cost more than a brand new 2022 one.

The average price of a new car reached $44k in November, and the average price of a new *LUXURY* car was $66k. By definition, a luxury car would be expensive compared to a regular car. Yes, the used car market is absolutely ridiculous at the moment (unfortunately, the Tesla market has crashed just as I'm trying to sell my Tesla,) but that doesn't mean $65k isn't expensive. It just means more people are priced out of cars. _Because they're too expensive._

@@papa_pt Actually is better than a lot of cars that has 3rd rows, because you are facing backwards, your head/body is distant from the rear end. Various front facing 3rd row (like minivans) your head is very close to the rear hatch.
I have it's earlier brother, 2017 AMG E43 in the same white pearl color and it is amazing. Slightly more power at 401 hp. The self-driving is indeed great (even back in 2017) as well as all the other driver assist options. Plus it's fast enough. If I had wanted an E63, I could've only afforded a 2012 model, lacking many modern perks and features.

It's safe fast comfortable classy beautiful respected stable solid and has so many extra features it blows my mind. Always wanted a Benz and I'm so glad I finally worked my ass off and bought one. I don't think I will ever get anything different for my next car except maybe the amg version of the e class ❤️
There are some really good rear-seat covers for dog owners. As the owner of a mud-loving Lab, I can say that they work very well. My car seats are a dark grey leather so stains wouldn't show as much as on that white interior, but I've taken the dog everywhere for the past 3 years we've had him and the back seats don't show any signs of the dog's presence (other than hair everywhere of course).

Love your sales comment and sounds like you lucked out with a good one! As a midwesterner looking for an enthusiast car, most are in FL or CA making it difficult to check out for myself in person. I have asked countless dealer reps for a few extra pics and additional details and have yet to find a single useful one. It's insane.
I second this and am in the same boat. I have had direct visits with 3 Midwestern BMW dealerships and it's like they don't even want money. Take some basic information and never follow up. When I have to follow up, they have no interest in selling cars. I can't wait for the tables to turn with the economy soon enough.

You buy a car from some dealers, they have salespeople on the phone all the time calling you to see if you want to trade your car in for a new one. I finally told one dealer to stop calling me or I won't even consider them for a new car again. (Ultimately, I decided to try a new dealer anyways, because I wanted to stay out of Phoenix proper.) Of course, now I have had the same thing happening to me ever since buying my condo. I barely had all my stuff moved in when I started getting harassed by mail and phone calls asking if I wanted to sell it! Jeez almighty! Have they ever thought that people buy a house to LIVE IN?!!!!!
We were actually test driving a few cars at that dealership last week. FYI, Oklahoma gives 30 days to tag your car after purchase. Several states are 90 days etc. It's fitting to list the sold date so wherever you are actually, going to tag it, they can do their own math to calculate the exp date.

I completely agree with Dougs reasons for replacing the Land Rover with the e-class Wagon. My last couple of cars were a Honda Accord 2.0T touring, then a Jeep Grand Cherokee limited X, and now a Subaru Impreza hatchback. Of those, the Subaru is my favorite. It’s just as capable in the snow up here in northern New Hampshire, has much better driver assistance tech than either the Honda or the Jeep, is just as good in snow as the Jeep, and the roof rack is much more usable than the Jeep. I love hatchbacks and wagons. They are just as practical as compact and midsize SUVs but I’m short and really appreciate being able to easily load skis and kayaks on and off the roof.

Surprised you didn't check out the Volvo V90. I've got a 2019 and the driver assists are very good in traffic. It does follow a bit further than I'd prefer at the closest setting, but that's Volvo safety for you...
congrats with baby! very smart decision on wagon, considering baby tools and a dog + with baby you don't really need to be fastest on the road anyway, so everything makes sense. Also baby will make any car looks dirty, even with black interior, so it does not really matter

Rear facing 3 row seats are not stupid at all, it's very clever when you have kids, we always had fun going in the back with family or friends when we went for 5x5 mini soccer game and we were so many that some of us had to sit in the back and we had created so beautiful core memories.
They actually DO make the third row in the lighter interior but I think they put black ones in your car due to supply chain issues. If you look around you'll find 2021 E450 All Terrain's with the white third row seats.

Get a cover for the back seats that you can use when the dog is riding. It’ll help a lot with keeping the interior clean. And it looks like a fine choice for a daily driver.

The Kia Stinger should count. It was there, and I loved it. But I don't usually consider it because it wasn't really a planned purchase -- I was intending to launch Cars & Bids by selling my E63 AMG Wagon and immediately buy my new Defender, but COVID delays pushed the new Defender arrival by six months -- so I needed a temporary solution, which became the Stinger.

I’ve always wondered what car Doug’s wife drove around.
The comment about being a good salesperson is the truest thing I've heard today. Literally just be responsive to customers if they ask for information or if they want you to notify them when what they're looking for comes in. I went to numerous dealerships when I was shopping for a car a few months ago and I asked them to keep me posted but I never heard back from them at all. I don't know if they didn't think I was serious about buying a car, but the one dealership that I actually felt valued at where they took me seriously and accommodated my needs was the one I gave my money to.
This is why I love this channel, the weird different cars are awesome. I can only take so much supercars of the same. Love the content can't wait for the 100s of videos this year.

As an engineer at Mercedes myself I personally LOVE this vehicle, and agree 100% with Doug for getting one. This is one of my top 3 cars that we produce right now, and I take every opportunity to drive one I get. The third row is awkward and awesome. The drive train is fast, but not AMG fast. The ride is smooth and not compromised as the AMG as a daily driver. GREAT PICK Mr. DeMuro!

Today I went to the dealership to look at (yes) a white one they advertise, a 2021. It wasn't there, an employee had taken it home :)
The black on there (smaller engine than Doug's) was nice enough. Love the width of the cargo space. Sadly, I need the driver deat in the max aft position, and then no person can sit behind me. In smaller cars the seat doesn't go back, but it accompdates the hunched up position better than in the E, it seems. Not sure I love that. Should have measured brom back of front seat to back rest of back seat to compare with other cars. I want an estate to throw whole (XL) montainbikes in AND be passable for business travel. Love the idea of good lane and distance keeping, espcially for long drives. Even Tesla seems a bit of a pain for that nowawys the way they handled it.
I agree for sure this one is my top coolest Mercedes Benz many of the new ones aren’t my cup of tea. Maybe the elb and elb because I like small boxy cars with 4 bangers. But wow what a power output on this 6 cyl

We drove Opel Kadett Caravan. No rear seats but me and the girl from my class I hearted got to ride in the back there. Rare nice childhood memories. If I ever find a NOS Kadett, it's probably an utter shitbox, but that's how things go.

This might be one of the most popular corporate cars in Germany. Feels like every second car on the autobahn is a Mercedes wagon. In general, people drive rather wagons than limousines.
Glad you had a good experience at Jackie Cooper in my hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I've never purchased a car from them, but I had Infinitis (they sell Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Infiniti and Nissan) for 18 years and used them for service, and always had great experiences.
Probably worth noting that there is a possibility that they knew who he was, which could explain the smooth and nice process.

Doug's the kind of guy to call a $65,000 car "normal" and "boring."
Also, I find it hilarious that Doug has waffled back and forth between those two vehicles having his third of each; while I have never owned the same make/model twice. (And in 13 vehicles, I've only even owned the same *BRAND* twice - 3 Fords, 2 Subarus.) Although my 18 year old kid is currently on his third Subaru.
ive had 3 73-79 ford trucks and 4 87-91 ford trucks so like doug i got a type.

Two of the 5 vehicles I've owned didn't last long enough to buy them again. They were a 1997 Ford Contour and a 2013 Dodge Dart. I loved driving both of those cars, but they weren't necessarily great to own. The Dart wasn't too bad, just normal wear-and-tear type maintenance, with the worst issue being having to replace the right front control arm. Which I was able to do myself in my driveway. That is, until the dual-clutch transmission spontaneously failed, which mechanically totaled it. The Contour always had something going wrong with it, the transmission being the last straw. I don't mind wrenching every day, I just don't like being forced to. To make matters worse, my mother-in-law owned a Mercury Mystique at the same time (same car, uglier color palette, like hers in Harvest Gold). I swear, I was always replacing something in those cars.
65 grand for a car is unfortunately "not even expensive" anymore. I was looking for a BRZ two months ago and used ones (even from 2013, first gen ffs) used cost more than a brand new 2022 one.
@@netheranimal8067 As someone who has bought a 45k car and an 80k car this year - 65k is still "expensive". The average price of a new car reached $44k in November, and the average price of a new *LUXURY* car was $66k. By definition, a luxury car would be expensive compared to a regular car.
Yes, the used car market is absolutely ridiculous at the moment (unfortunately, the Tesla market has crashed just as I'm trying to sell my Tesla,) but that doesn't mean $65k isn't expensive. It just means more people are priced out of cars. _Because they're too expensive._

@@papa_pt Actually is better than a lot of cars that has 3rd rows, because you are facing backwards, your head/body is distant from the rear end. Various front facing 3rd row (like minivans) your head is very close to the rear hatch.
I have it's earlier brother, 2017 AMG E43 in the same white pearl color and it is amazing. Slightly more power at 401 hp. The self-driving is indeed great (even back in 2017) as well as all the other driver assist options. Plus it's fast enough.
If I had wanted an E63, I could've only afforded a 2012 model, lacking many modern perks and features.

Proud owner of an e class myself. Warning they are addictive as Doug already knows Very happy with it best car I ever owned. It's safe fast comfortable classy beautiful respected stable solid and has so many extra features it blows my mind. Always wanted a Benz and I'm so glad I finally worked my ass off and bought one. I don't think I will ever get anything different for my next car except maybe the amg version of the e class ❤️
There are some really good rear-seat covers for dog owners. As the owner of a mud-loving Lab, I can say that they work very well. My car seats are a dark grey leather so stains wouldn't show as much as on that white interior, but I've taken the dog everywhere for the past 3 years we've had him and the back seats don't show any signs of the dog's presence (other than hair everywhere of course).
By the way how do you control the dog from, putting it politely, doing business in the back seat / car?

Love your sales comment and sounds like you lucked out with a good one! As a midwesterner looking for an enthusiast car, most are in FL or CA making it difficult to check out for myself in person. I have asked countless dealer reps for a few extra pics and additional details and have yet to find a single useful one. It's insane.
I second this and am in the same boat. I have had direct visits with 3 Midwestern BMW dealerships and it's like they don't even want money. Take some basic information and never follow up. When I have to follow up, they have no interest in selling cars. I can't wait for the tables to turn with the economy soon enough.

You buy a car from some dealers, they have salespeople on the phone all the time calling you to see if you want to trade your car in for a new one. I finally told one dealer to stop calling me or I won't even consider them for a new car again. (Ultimately, I decided to try a new dealer anyways, because I wanted to stay out of Phoenix proper.) Of course, now I have had the same thing happening to me ever since buying my condo. I barely had all my stuff moved in when I started getting harassed by mail and phone calls asking if I wanted to sell it! Jeez almighty! Have they ever thought that people buy a house to LIVE IN?!!!!!

We were actually test driving a few cars at that dealership last week. FYI, Oklahoma gives 30 days to tag your car after purchase. Several states are 90 days etc. It's fitting to list the sold date so wherever you are actually, going to tag it, they can do their own math to calculate the exp date.
I think it's easier if the expiration date is on the tag. No possibility of errors that way.

I completely agree with Dougs reasons for replacing the Land Rover with the e-class Wagon. My last couple of cars were a Honda Accord 2.0T touring, then a Jeep Grand Cherokee limited X, and now a Subaru Impreza hatchback. Of those, the Subaru is my favorite. It’s just as capable in the snow up here in northern New Hampshire, has much better driver assistance tech than either the Honda or the Jeep, is just as good in snow as the Jeep, and the roof rack is much more usable than the Jeep. I love hatchbacks and wagons. They are just as practical as compact and midsize SUVs but I’m short and really appreciate being able to easily load skis and kayaks on and off the roof.

Surprised you didn't check out the Volvo V90. I've got a 2019 and the driver assists are very good in traffic. It does follow a bit further than I'd prefer at the closest setting, but that's Volvo safety for you...

congrats with baby! very smart decision on wagon, considering baby tools and a dog + with baby you don't really need to be fastest on the road anyway, so everything makes sense. Also baby will make any car looks dirty, even with black interior, so it does not really matter
So the 0-60 isn’t in the “mid to high 4 second range” as Doug states; he did the drag race 0-60mph in 5.12 seconds.

Rear facing 3 row seats are not stupid at all, it's very clever when you have kids, we always had fun going in the back with family or friends when we went for 5x5 mini soccer game and we were so many that some of us had to sit in the back and we had created so beautiful core memories.
They actually DO make the third row in the lighter interior but I think they put black ones in your car due to supply chain issues. If you look around you'll find 2021 E450 All Terrain's with the white third row seats.
